I should have know, with the word "cowboy" in the title, but I had a gift card I won at a work outing. Arrived at 10:15 AM for breakfast but given only lunch/dinner menus. We had to wait. For. Literally. Everything. Actual menu different from internet. Ordered pizza with green olives. Given pizza without green olives. Still. More. Waiting. Asked for box. Not given box. Asked again. Given box. The only thing worse than the service was the food. Tasteless and bland. Friend said chicken sandwich tasted "like leather." Never again. I take responsibility, since the name was "Cowboy" Jacks. Probably a good place if all you want to do is some Fireball shots and hope to bed some 20-something. read more

After another brawl broke out and was cleared by the bouncers, the only bouncer not to help break it up came over to our table and told us we needed to leave. After we said we would prefer to let the people leave the area that started the brawl he asked "are you scared"? This is the second time this African American bouncer has targeted us as regular customers. Pathetic that this individual who is supposed to be security did nothing to break up a huge bar brawl then antagonized us to leave because we weren't black. If this BS continues Cowboy Jacks will soon be out of business like the rest of the restaurants in Mpls and Uptown. read more

Our sales team went here this week, a group of nine or ten of us. The setting is nice, a really good re-do of the old Steak & Ale. The service, while friendly was not very professional (servers reaching over people and across the table to serve, yelling "who had the walleye?!!" instead of asking politely. The servers did do a good job of making sure we had drinks refilled/ reordered promptly. The first server pointed out how well they did in seating all of us, though I wasn't able to make a reservation when I'd called the week prior. The voicemail was full so I sent an e-mail via the web. I did get a call back, and was told they couldn't reserve a spot for us (our group at that time was expected to be 6 people.) All in all, pretty mediocre customer experience. Food was pretty poor. Appetizers were OK. Walleye was nicely done, garlic wings were very garlicky but had a weird sweet taste. I ordered the special Fajitas, and the beef was way overcooked and tough. Another couple of peope ordered the chicken fajitas, and the chicken was overcooked, too. The sauted walleye one guy ordered came as broiled. Both of the people who ordered walleye said it was good. Others who ordered the potpie said it was just okay. Two other people ordered the braised beef and found it dry and flavorless. We ordered doughnuts for a dessert and they were alright, nothing special. I wouldn't go back for dinner, maybe just for drinks. read more

I came tonight for a bite to eat and drink with my gal. We decided to come here over Lucky 13 to try something different. Things didn't start off well. We waited almost 15 minutes at the bar to place our order. The bar tenders just had a poor attitude. We got our drinks and food. The calamari was horrible and came with a spicy sauce. It was dry and a very small order. The bartender never came back to check our food or drinks. She was more concerned about someone from the patio ordering a drink from her. It was because the service outside sucked according to the customer. She refused to place her order and said it's not her fault she couldn't get a drink from her server outside. The clientele on a Sunday is a bunch of creepy old drunk men. Stay away. We went to Lucky 13 and the drinks were cheaper and better. Plus the food is edible. What a dump! Don't do it! read more

It has plenty of TVs; big selection of appetizers to choose from; a mechanical bull for your entertainment; and outdoor porch so you can look hip while drinking outside for the 2-3 months in MN...What is not to like? For some reason, for a sport bar, I expected more...A lot more. I don't care for their food. It is too noisy for real discussion among friends. Most of my friends are not dumb enough to get on the mechanical bull...Hence there are no entertaining value there. Cowboy Jack's parking parking lot is like a maze that makes you wonder if there are any engineers left in the world. Because my friends(mostly men mind you) are not creative enough to find a better place to hang out for big sporting events, we usually wind up back here 4-6 times a year...I need to reconsidering my circle of friends. read more

This was....just not my bag. The cheap drinks were the only draw for me. The rest of the place just seemed seedy and kind of creepy. Particularly the old men leering at the women, as they fell off the mechanical bull. Everyone else seemed like they were having a good time, so if the "cowboy" vibe is what you are going for? In town for a couple of days and this place came highly recommended from our hotel which just happens to be right next door. Walked over at 6pm, we were greeted and seated right away. Waitress was nice and efficient. My friend and I ordered burgers, his with regular fries and mine was the bison burger with sweet potatoe fries. Both meals arrived within a reasonable time, however my sweet potatoe fries were refrigerator cold. Pointed it out and they were replaced. The burgers were ok for typical bar fare but I could barely taste the bison flavor in mine. We finished up, payed up and left. 2 hours later we both began to experience the most painful and nauseating heartburn ever. And it lasted until 7 am the next morning. We clearly came here on the wrong night. It was late-ish (just before 9) on a Friday night, and this is where our local hosts brought us. From the very beginning, when we said we were there to eat and not there for "club night," I felt that our party of four was a low priority annoyance. AT BEST. Our waitress who took our order was argumentative and snarky while taking my order. I pointed out something on the menu and she, without looking, sarcastically said it wasn't there. Alrighty then. (I ordered something specifically for the side that came with it, and she was very "Um, I don't think so.") Rude. Maybe it had to do with the fact that she was done for the night, because we never saw her again. Our next server was equally enthusiastic. One of us ordered the all-you-can-eat Friday fish fry. After he finished his plate, he waited quite some time to place another reorder because the waitress rarely made an appearance. As a result, we all had to wait around. When he made a second request for more fish, the waitress said they were done serving it at 9:00. We ORDERED at about 9. Nothing was mentioned, and we said so. She then remarked that she'd see what she can do, but that the kitchen might not like it. Ten minutes later she came back with some fish, placed it in front of him without looking at him and walked away. I've had bad service before, and this ranked among the worst. The food: I can speak only for myself. The brisket was meh, and it came drenched in sauce. The fries (the side I didn't want) were fillers -- not crispy, not well seasoned, just bland calories. Oh, and all the free peanuts people get excited about... not on "club night." Here's the thing, if you don't want people to come and spend money on food at your restaurant on a Friday night, don't serve food on a Friday night. Save us all the hassle. read more

My coworkers and I have been coming to Cowboy Jack's in Bloomington, MN for a couple years now. We usually are able to get together 3-4 times a year and we always include Cowboy Jack's into our nightly routine. The restaurant is awesome; whether it's karaoke, darts, or playing games outside, there is always something fun to do. The main reason we keep coming back has been our server Kelsey. We always make sure to be in her section, she is unbelievably fun, friendly, and her service is impressively fast. Supper happy hour! The tap selection isn't wide or exciting, but it is 2 dollars. Appetizers are equivalent to Joe Sensors, but you do get unlimited, free peanuts here. Gets a little messy, but it's a great chaser for inexpensive beer. I've yet to have the food. I LOVE the outdoor seating. There's bar seating outdoors as well, and I think that's mighty fine. Parking is a little rough because there never seems to be enough parking here, and overflow should park in the Xerox parking lot because the Hotel and Slumberland tow like evil landlords. The crowd ranges depending on the day and time. Weekends get the younger crowd because of the live bands and mechanical bull riding. Week days at happy hour, you'll get the older, after work crowd from all the businesses in Bloomington and Edina. To summarize, Cowboy Jacks is a great cowboy bar if a cowboy bar is what you're looking for. It's also a great regular bar if you're looking for a big, regular bar with sports on the TVs and big tables for groups. read more

This place needs work. The outdoor area is a wreck, there's a smoking section that is not enforced- which is unfortunate when you aren't a smoker, and you'd like to eat outside. Our server was nice, that's the only reason I'd give a star, that and my drink was strong (that's a good thing), however, they don't have a drink menu- big head scratcher. Well the service was good, we had a party of about 7, with split checks. She did well adjusting to the coming and going. However, your bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. Water sprayed out of the toilet onto the ceiling and my friend who was using that toilet. This is only part of it the excess water (I hope) on the floors constantly are grotesque. This review will be based mostly off of the drink specials. Happy hour drinks are less than $4 each. I believe $2.50 for select beers, and $3 for rail cocktails. I won't ever argue with those prices. Depending on which night you go, this is a very nice location to go to. Obviously the weekends are packed, which I'm never a fan of. Weekdays are not bad at all and certainly worth giving this place a visit. The bull makes for fun drunken activities amongst friends, and pull-tabs are a sure-fire way to make or break your wallet. The appetizers are pretty good. The potato skins would be my favorite. The cornbread a close second. The quesadilla I had was good, although nothing to write home about. Someone finally did something with the old Steak & Ale space... about time. I mean, it's not a perfect location with the difficult access, but it's surrounded by businesses and hotels in an area hurting for options - so it should work. First off, the place is BIG. They opened up all the rooms from the old days and created a big, open, honky tonk-style joint complete will mechanical bull and all-you-can-eat peanuts in the shell. It's nice enough, but very 'chainy'. Lots of kitchy signs made to look old and railroad lanterns on the tables instead of the usual candles or lamps. If you've been to Cowboy Slims in uptown, you've already been here. The food is decent, really, being what it is. It's burgers, steaks, wings, etc. We had the blackened fish taco appetizer, which was surprisingly good, but the braised chicken sandwich was a little lacking in flavor. My wife's burger received a shoulder shrug and an 'okay' and the steak salad my mom ordered did the trick for her. The beer list is what you'd expect in a suburban chain restaurant - lots of Bud & Miller products, Grain Belt, Leine's... and that's about it. They do have their own house beer - 'Jack's Ale', which I made do with for the night. Meh. The service wasn't bad despite the fact that it had been open less than a week when I stopped in. They were probably overstaffing for the first week or so (which is what I would do) to ensure they got off on the right foot, so we'll see how it progresses once it's been open a while. Overall, I'd say this would be a fun place to go with a group of friends - watch them ride the bull, throw peanut shells on the floor, etc. - but if you're just looking for a meal, skip it. read more

We called Cowboy Jacks the other day to check for reservations for large parties and they were able to accommodate us with short notice. They were able to give a us a room (the Jesse James room) just for our party. None of us had ever been, but we will certainly be back. All the food was fabulous!!! From the apps to the dessert, everyone enjoyed everything we ordered. The calamari with the chipolte mayo was amazing..crispy and tasty!! The portions were large and sharable. I am pretty sure we ordered one of every dessert and they all were a hit. The turtle cake was AMAZING!! My only desire was for hot fudge on the sundae! Getting the reservation was swift, the food was amazing, and now to our server, Casey. She was awesome!! We can be a rowdy bunch with lots of jokes and she fit in very well! She took great care of us, was extremely sociable, and had a great sense of humor! Thank you again for everything!! read more

This was my second time at Cowboy Jack's, the first being late on a Friday night. My previous visit I found myself face to face with my past - emotionless questions from old high school acquaintances. However, the music was live, the drinks were flowing and the crowd was thick - I figured it'd be a cool place to bring an out of town guest to for some fun. We came on Sunday (the night before labor day, so we thought more people would be out given the day off) around 10:00. I was really surprised by the crowd... we seemed in the minority to be under 40. It was a bunch of drunk sloppy moms and predatory old men. We scooted around the bar to different areas trying to find a "safe" place and ended up just playing Big Buck Hunter before finishing our beers and running away. On the upside, their happy hour started at 10:00 and it was $2 taps and domestic bottles, so we left with a buzz for $13. The menu was extensive and offered tons of different kinds of food - seemed like the people eating enjoyed themselves... They have free popcorn which is nice. A downside for sure is that they kind of are in the middle of nowhere. People are clearly coming and getting loaded, then they have to drive home (full parking lot most of the time). read more

Not as good as the other cowboy themed joints that have opened lately. I think we're entering a weird phase in Minnesota food. We've got Texas Roadhouse, Cowboy slims, Cowboy Jacks, Toby Keith's and Wild Bills all opening in the last few years. Lots of western themed stuff going on. I felt that the Bloomington Cowboy Jacks is at the back of the pack in food quality. Went here on a Wednesday night. The portions were small but expensive. The steak I had was good but small. The chicken pot pie was really, really dry but the breading was mushy and not flaky and crisp. It needed some gravy and crispness to it. The steak had a baked potato that had obviously been in the warmer all day long. The veggies served with it were good. The plate was really small though! Definitely not a texas sized plate. The chicken pot pie didn't come with any sides. The atmosphere was alright but not spectacular. Similar to the faux-kitsch of any chain, be it Applebee's, Outback, or whatever. Just fake tacky old stuff glued to the wall. I like that they had karaoke and I guess there's a mechanical bull (we didn't see it). It would probably be ok as a happy hour bar, but as a dinner joint I don't think we'll be back. read more

I came here with a friend for a drink. It was a beautiful night so we seated ourselves outside by the bar. I ordered a mojito, my friend a strawberry mojito. Each drink was 6 bucks... Prices were about average. Clean place, quick service and friendly staff. I liked all the available seating options at Cowboy Jack's. There was a bean bag game located behind the outdoor fireplace. Inside there were other gaming options available. I didn't have the opportunity to explore everything but I will definitely be going back here to check it all out another time! read more

This building (formerly Steak & Ale) sat empty for ages and is finally revitalized and open for business! Cowboy Jacks is owned by the same company that owns Cowboy Silms in Uptown and Cowboy Jacks in Plymouth. The re-do on the building is fabulous. Decor and presence of the space is suberb. Of course you'll find your mechanical bull, pool tables, darts, video games and bars made to dance on. Unfortunately, I was less than impressed with the food. Think burgers, wraps, steaks, pulled prok, chicken, ribs, salads, etc... Your entree comes with chips and pickle - if you ask for it. Otherwise, upcharge of $2 for fries and $2 more for a salad, sweet potato fries, etc... Basically, you get your sandwich and have to ask for all of the usual fixings. The service was attentive and the restaurant had steady business for a Monday lunch. Happy hour from 3-6 and 10-Midnight with $2 beer/drinks and 1/2 price appetizers which is a decent HH menu in Bloomington. read more

Come here for happy hour, after 10PM, and you'll get two dollar rails and beers. We went on a Wednesday night and it was comfortably busy and incredibly cheap. On the weekend nights the place gets a little crazy. Don't come here for breakfast. We came for breakfast on Sunday, around noon, and while there was nothing wrong with the food, I just don't think it is worth it. Nothing special. No pancakes. The hash browns come in a block and were very boring. There's better places for breakfast, that's all. This is a new place with great potential. We have been here a couple of times within the few weeks it has been open. We love Cowboy Slims in uptown and were extremely pleased that Cowboy Jacks was coming to bloomington (since its so close to our house). The inside is super cool and we only had appetizers my boyfriend was extremely impressed by the food. Which is a great thing because he is a chef and extremely hard to impress food wise.. We tried to go last night and it was PACKED PACKED beyond belief we were disappointed to not be able to get a drink because you could not get within 20 feet of the bar! Pretty unsatisfactory. Chicken artichoke sandwich was gross. Chicken pesto flatbread - less than a quarter eaten. Hamburger was fine but French fries were straight out of a bag. Calamari appetizer - another straight from the freezer product (like chewing rubber bands). Best dish was the meatloaf slider (and I don't even like meatloaf). Maybe a fun place for drinks but even then a limited tap menu. I'd probably just go anywhere else to be honest. read more

We had the walleye fingers as an app and the fingers were crispy and were very good. I liked the chipotle tartar sauce and it comes with rosemary fries. Hands down the Open-Faced Chicken Sandwich is my favorite. The chicken melts in your mouth and the corn bread stuffing has allot of taste. We visited the Bloomington location last weekend. Had a few beers, played some pull tabs and ordered a pizza....all around good times. Until my first (and second) piece of pizza... I bit into the first piece and immediately crunched down on something hard. It was a chunk of bone (not chewy cartilage or a piece of my own tooth) about the size of a large piece of rice. I put it on a plate to show the waitress and proceeded to grab a different piece of pizza. Same thing! The chunk of bone was slightly smaller but another piece of bone nonetheless. I informed our waitress, she grabbed the chunks of bone (along with the pizza), apologized and brought the pizza to the back. 5 minutes later a manager came out, apologized and said it must have been pieces of "hard cheese" and that another pizza would be coming out shortly. I told him it was definitely pieces of bone but he didn't respond with much and left. 3 things.... 1. Don't tell me (the person who almost broke a tooth) what was in my pizza. Cheese doesn't get that hard. It was obviously bone from the ground sausage. It was a lame attempt at covering their backs. 2. Don't assume I want the same thing that just contained shards of bone! 3. Offer SOME sort of comp. I wasn't looking for anything free (nor did I ask) but come on. It's good customer service to offer up a little something, something. Oh and a 4th thing.....the second pizza was extremely soggy in the middle and had a taste of funk that I can't describe. I only ended up eating a few edge pieces and some of the toppings. Won't be ordering their pizza again.... read more

The new Jacks in Fargo needs to get it going! I've been there 3 times and I feel like I struck out. Chicken shredded sandwich just average at best. Last time ordered Nachos with taco beef and they served nachos with melted cheese...told the waitress said they would comp. and that did not happen just brought out nachos with the taco beef and changed us for the meal. Manager gave us a $5.00 gift card. wow. service is ok above average and the cook is slow and needs to pay attention to the order slip. So far Cowboy Jacks is all about the atmosphere and that will carry them! This is a county/western ambiance bar. The food is mostly Americana and has been decent in the past. The drinks are moderately priced. Look for happy hour specials and ask what a good value is. Many weekend nights there will be live music and a dance floor. The ratio of men/women is usually around 1.7-1.8. So yeah, it's often a bit of a sausage fest. There is pool, darts, and some video games available for pay to play, Service can be spotty but one can hardly blame as they can be quite busy. Grab your lassos. Ye-haw, cowboy. read more
