The owners keep a handful of rescued farm animals (pot-bellied pigs, mini ponies, goats), and it is clear they are well cared for. It is a busy place for big wedding events now, and so we like to stay during the week. It is very relaxing to walk around the grounds. We saw a giant heron in the pond and deer strolling. There are so many nice places to sit outside with a bottle of wine and a book or snacks. Rooms are very unique and comfortable. You have a lot of different personalities to choose from: lofts, cabins, barn spaces, etc. Many have jacuzzis which can provide your evening entertainment, lol. We have not eaten in the restaurant because our top restaurant on earth is very close by, but when it was closed, Josh gave us great recommendations. And he made a lovely tofu scramble for breakfast as a special request. One sweet touch: despite checking the room, we left without my spouse's expensive phone charger. Housekeeping found it and ran after us before we could drive off without it. She did not have to do that. Always tip your housekeeping staff. The extended Covid months have been very hard on inns, restaurants, and event spaces, and it must be stressful for them as things come back to life when so many events have been postponed. It is wonderful to be back out again. We will return -- a lot.

The Barley Sheaf is very serious about pandemic precautions, so masks are in full effect, and they'll walk you to your socially-distanced table in a beautiful, outdoor gardening setting. The inn itself is an architectural delight, as well, so you are surrounded by beauty on all sides. Service was pleasant and forthcoming. I wouldn't say that this is the finest level of dining, of course, you're not expecting EMP in the middle of Bucks County, but this is a good attempt, and people are pleasant and quite dignified. The guests were all well attired and the crowd is polite and kind. Food is of the adventurous character, which I enjoy. A lot of different flavor combinations (they like to do salé and sucré), beautiful plating, interesting textures, and good cooking techniques. My favorites were the octopus appetizer (so buttery soft and tender, which is a rarity) and the pheasant special, which was a pleasant and apropos surprise in this outdoor, country setting. The couple things I want to note are around how long it was to wait for a table and food. We arrived in the area around 1125am and I called to place my name on the wait-list. Upon answering, the hostess informed me you have to place your name on the waitlist in person. No issue, I walked over to do this. Only to find out that the waitlist is monitored by Yelp, which can easily be done online. So that was very frustrating to see at the start. We then were told to wait 15-20 minutes. When we got to the front of the list, they then informed us that we needed to wait an additional 20-30 minutes as the kitchen needed to flip. This was very confusing and a big turn off. Eventually, I spoke with a woman who allowed us to come inside and sit down instead of waiting outside for over an hour. It would have been nice to know at the outset of this whole interaction that breakfast wasn't going to be an option and then it would be an hour before we could order and eat. At the end of the day, we ate our great food and enjoyed being able to dine at this place. I will just look into a few more places on my next visit here.

It's a drink comprised of tea, ginger syrup, and honey. Weirdly, it was much more tart than I was anticipating, but I also couldn't put my finger on what type of tea it was... perhaps black? Anyway, my entree was the Hash Bowl. I added pork to mine to get some extra protein, and am happy to report that they did not skimp on the protein. They do charge $3 or $4 extra for the added protein, but I think it's well worth it to add a meat to the dish. Its hash brown, smothered with cheese, atop egg with tomatoes and a fried avocado. It's a very good portion, and I enjoyed it. I wanted to try the dessert, but unfortunately was much too full by the end to have room for it. Next time :)

The ambiance was an older farmhouse and we sat at a long table with Gail our wine presenter/expert sitting across from us. There were approximately 18 guests. The kitchen was open for us to see and aromas were pleasant . The food was outstanding and we particularly enjoyed the pappardelle and Osso Buco my wife has some leftovers. The wines were perfectly paired and we really enjoyed them all. The Nizzi Barbera was notable. Service was great and Gail was excellent providing history and explanations of all the wines. The second pairing had a bit of an issue with a corked bottle but all was made right. The chef came out as each course was served to explain the dishes and their preparation.
