    The Menu!

Okay...so we are probably late to the scene once again because...well I hardly go anywhere outside of work and church...I'm not for the heat in these streets...however...I digress. Anyway, the husband found another spot in Greenville that has a great vibe and it's a black owned. Tonight we slid on into Coupe's Corner and I must say I loved the atmosphere! It's right in the heart of downtown not too far from Flour Field and Gather Greenville. They are open Wednesday-Saturday (hours will be posted in photos on my second post) and they have live music! They have a nice selection of "adult" beverages and appetizers and we decided to order Brussels Sprouts for starters. Josh and I ordered a chicken quesadilla with fries and Hubs ordered the Jerk Chicken with a side of Cabbage. The food was delicious but AJ, one of the owners of this establishment told us that we missed out and should have ordered the Oxtails Grilled Cheese...he says it's FIRE!! I think it was great that AJ sat down to chat with us for awhile and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Our server answered a lot of my questions about the menu (pointing out the Gluten Free options), the hours of business and told us that they host private party's on the days that they are not open to the public. So if you're hanging out downtown Greenville, SC, or looking for a nice spot to have food and drinks, stop by Coupe's to show some love and support!!

AJ was on point and active to ensure the best customer experience. Got the Chix Quesadilla. Love this place.

Way, way, way too loud. Turn down the volume and this would be a good place- right on Main, with the interior open to the sidewalk.

Great vibes, music, drinks, and service! The food looked good as well, but I didn't personally eat anything. Will definitely be back soon!

Let me get to the issue first. We were a table of 6 and any party of 6 or more is required to do the tasting menu at $85 per person. We were there to celebrate my daughter's birthday, so it was not an issue, but this really should be stated up front when taking reservations, when confirming reservations and upon arrival. I'm sure this has resulted in some awkward exchanges for those not prepared. That being said, The Anchorage deserves the accolades it has been given. Every dish was spectacular, from the beet salad to start the meal to the apple pie to finish. We had crispy arancini that was the nights favorite, and the short ribs melted in our mouths. The portions are modest, yet we all left satisfied. There were three vegetable forward dishes, the beet salad, an Asian leaning cabbage dish and a carrot dish with a delicious sauce. In all we sampled 8 dishes and three desserts, as well as a bread service that came with an unctuous bourbon liver mousse. You will have a magnificent meal and experience there.

All of the salads are amazing. I think the only misses are the Spaghetti Carbonara and the Seared Black Cod. The "Doublecream" Arancini was phenomenal. The bourbon liver mousse was astounding. The hamachi tiradito was great. The Braised Chatel Farms Beef Shortribs are fork tender. All of the desserts were really sweet. I didn't like any of them, far too indulgent. The service was great. We got low on water in the end. The restaurant is a bit cramped but there's seating on the outside and upstairs.

My first time was better (pun intended!). The dessert was so-so. I got the Naughty by Nature and the lime was WAY too tart. I wish they had more variation for those who don't want a lot of chocolate or peanut butter. My guy had the Peanut Butter Perversion and said it was too creamy. We may try again one day, but not too soon. I do love the menu process and ease to view options.

That kind of service is appreciated. Unfortunately, everything else? Pretty underwhelming. First impressions? Chaos. The entrance area is a logistical mess. People trying to enter, others trying to leave, a cramped waiting area, and no host in sight to direct traffic or check people in. Add dim lighting that makes it hard to see people moving around, and you've got elbows bumping and bodies brushing. Ironically, the most "intimate" part of the whole night was navigating the front door. The concept? Great. The execution? Not so much. I actually love the idea behind this place -- seductive storytelling by your server, iPads with flirtatious menus, and provocative questions to ask your partner. That's all fun... if that's what you're coming for. I came for the desserts. And as someone who takes sweets seriously, this place didn't deliver. Let's talk drinks: Tiny, overpriced, and flavor-wise -- basic. Nothing memorable. The chocolate-rimmed glasses are a nice touch in theory, but licking the rim doesn't elevate the drink. If I want to rim a glass with something sweet at home, I can. That alone doesn't justify the price. Now, the real heartbreak -- the desserts. My fiancé had the Prince Charming red velvet cheesecake, and I don't think I've ever encountered a cheesecake so dry, so devoid of flavor. Even the crust tasted off -- weirdly savory, and not in a creative way. I ordered the Blueberry Birthday -- it sounded like heaven: buttered cinnamon-sugar toast, Belgian white chocolate, spiked blueberry compote, brie cheese, and a strawberry champagne dip. Sadly, it was more like culinary whiplash. Dry. Disconnected flavors. The only thing that saved it from being inedible was the champagne dip -- without it, I probably would've choked. Three drinks and three desserts came out to around $90. For that price, I expected to be wowed -- or at least pleasantly full. I left confused, slightly annoyed, and still craving dessert. Maybe we came on an off night. Maybe we chose the wrong menu items. Either way, I won't be back to find out.
