Yet they try their best to give you the best service. Second visit I came with my husband. We sat at the kitchen bar. Nice waiters at 7am. Both visits were pleasant. I like to eat...I like to eat at local restaurants when I travel (I travel a lot) I'm what the Mexicans call, " Gordo Gringo" fat white man). My favorite breakfast place in the world is Russell's Marina in NOLA. This place however, is a VERY close 2nd. During my first visit, I thought, "not bad, I'd eat here again" but the 2nd and now 3rd my life changed. Not like saved by Jesus changed, more like, "I need a post breakfast nap so that I can dream about their breakfast" You might ask, what changed? Grilled biscuits and sausage gravy. The service is bad. Wait staff will not refill coffee or take an additional order unless they are your waiter. There is alot of yelling behind the kitchen counter which is not very professional. Tried giving them a second and third chance and same bad service. Food is good if your able to get your order in by your waiter. Owners need to step in to fix this sinking ship. read more

2.5 stars: This place just isn't the same since the original owners sold & then the original location burned down (formerly located across from Melba's dance studio & old Sun Harvest). The menu has pretty much stayed the same but, the food (lunch) is always cold or lukewarm. Your safest bet is to stick w/the omelettes or a cold sandwich. RIP original country omelette. The new spot is certainly cleaner than the old hole in the wall but it's just disconcerting. The whole place is done in movie chic... or movie ugly. Red and black walls, big movie posters, low laminate tables and ancient roll-y chairs scream tragic ghost town diner, not delicious food. Even if it was in a quaint country cottage, the service and the food is lacking. It actually has good flavor but prices and slow service just don't do much to rectify the fact that your eyes are bleeding. I think the reason this place succeeds is that in its old incarnation, it was a breakfast cornerstone. The anemic salad bar and a hideous bathroom are also highly unfortunate. I've been twice and I'm never disappointed. The service is so fast and I love the omelettes so much that I can't try anything else although it all looks great. I had the large omelette with bacon potatoes and cheese and cubes potatoes on the side. It was perfectly cooked and just so good. If breakfast isn't your thing at lunch time they have amazing lunch specials that would be delivered to you quickly if you're on a short lunch break. I was not excited to go to the "Country Omelette" when my aunt suggested that's where we go for lunch. I'm in the Valley, I want enchiladas or tacos, or anything Mexican. The enchiladas happened to be the lunch special that afternoon, and man they were good. Service was fairly prompt. This place reminds me of a scene from the TV series Parks and Recreation: a small-town cafe where the city's "movers & shakers" go to share ideas & have some old-fashioned breakfast. That breakfast is pure Valley too. It ranges from eggs, toast, & pancakes to chorizo, migas, & menudo. Personally, I'm inclined towards the migas a la Mexicana, a slightly spicy mix of jalapeños, green onion, & tomato in crispy, golden brown maize tortillas with egg. And even during the busy morning hours, they seem to run a tight ship. Waiters help each other keep coffee cups filled, bus boys help keep tables clean, & hosts help with everything else. I just love this restaurant!!! It beats Denny's and IHOP any day of the week! My wife and I usually go after church on Sundays and even with a standing room only, we get seated quickly and served even quicker! After ordering at Denny's or IHOP, you usually expect to wait 15 20 minutes minimum to receive your food. Not at the Country Omelette! Your order comes within 10 minutes tops! Can you believe that! Oh, and the food is to die for too. Everything we've ate on the menu is great. Nice staff too! After the restaurant suffered a fire, they moved down the road into the old Caro's Restaurant building located at 2622 N 10th Street in McAllen. There is a group of 6 that meet there just about every Wed for breakfast. We enjoy their breakfast & service is very good.....we get a great waitress if we can get her area...she is so friendly & a really wonderful person....she always has a smile & a hug for us. I know some of us are a little demanding about their coffee & she is always there with a smile. I love the French Toast, only place in the valley it is served & the middle isn't soggy. LONG POST: My mom and I had visited the old location awhile back prior to our visit this past weekend; Saturday to be specific. The food was great and the service was speedy. The only thing I did not appreciate was our server; he seemed annoyed when we would ask him questions and he was literally yelling at us from the kiosk where he puts in the orders and confirming our order from all the way over there. I asked him if the difference between the small omelet and the big one was the amount of eggs used or if they were served with extra sides and this man literally put his hands down on the table, stared at me confused, squint his eyes, and looked at me as if I had asked him for a pizza to go or something bizarre but it was a genuine question. His response was, "Well yeah?? The large has 3 eggs and the small has 2" & proceeded to move his arms up like "duh". I looked at him so confused like where is this coming from? That really took away from the experience and he was also being rude to the table behind us. I CLEARLY heard him serve the guy behind us and say "Here is your short stack" and walked away quickly so I turned and it seemed like the man needed something because he raised his hand to get the server's attention and the server legit YELLED like from 10 feet away and asked him, "WHAT?!?! There's your short stack!" and the man was like "I was gonna ask for some butter." The server then said "omg man." and he walked away and I was like dude...WHAT??? Like I get it's busy, but there was no need for his attitude and remarks. If we ever go back, I will kindly ask that he is not our server. I used to be a server and this kind of attitude is not okay. I still left him $3 tip because I have been in his shoes but this man needed a major attitude check. I felt so unwelcomed that I didn't even have the energy to speak to a manager. read more

One of the "tests" of a breakfast place in the South, is grits. The other is hash brown potatoes. Their grits were tasteless, watery and lumpy, and the hash browns came out of a bag. This is by far one of my favorite breakfast places and hands down better than any Denny's and Ihop any day! We talked this place up so much to my Pastor Joel last week that we decided to invite him to breakfast this morning. I had to send my eggs back twice and being in the service industry myself i know better than to contradict what the guest says. What the guest says goes. Let's get the problem fixed. Unfortunately i was met by a snooty remark from the casheir and that was unnecessary. I like my eggs runny just not RAW. My eggs were sent back twice for being undercooked and finally got it right and my eggs were great. Everything was great. He loved everything. Unfortunately we got no apology of any sorts and much to my disappointment my Pastor paid for our breakfast without any compensation whatsoever. We will be back. We always go back. Oh my goodness, where to begin? The food I tried was absolutely phenomenal: the eggs were perfect, the Texas biscuits were delicious and the bacon was not only superbly prepared, but I swear to you, I have NEVER had bacon that was as thick or fresh as the stuff they have there. No, really, I could've swore it was oinking seconds ago, it was that tasty. The pancakes are always fluffy and they're big to boot, so you get your money's worth. Perhaps my favorite aspect of my varied experiences, however, was the customer service. My server, Katie, was not only very nice but recommended a dish that was both affordable and filling. Quick with the coffee, too. And finally, the price. I went with a friend of mine and we ordered coffee, a Country breakfast (3 eggs, bacon, biscuits, hashbrowns) as well as a full stack of pancakes (3) . It was 17 dollars! Maybe the one caveat was that it's main customers are older people so if you're younger, like me, you'll feel a little strange but everything else more than makes up for it. All in all, great experiences every time although I will admit that some aspects like the bathrooms or the cushions are a bit 'worn' in but not to the point of being unpleasant. read more
