Counterpoint coffee has become my absolute favorite local coffee shop in Monterey. They really care about the quality of their coffee and the baristas are skilled in steaming milk and pouring some dope latte art. In fact, counterpoint offers latte art classes for those who are interested in learning how to craft their own drinks. The matcha rose water lemonade is excellent with the flavors being really well balanced and not overly sweet which many lemonades are. They offer beer on tap and this spot is awesome to sit down with a pint and people watch. If you're ever in Monterey (specifically seaside), come give counterpoint a visit. I've tried the Ube Latte and it was SOOO GOOD!!! I also ate an everything bagel with cream cheese and of course it was delicious. I would recommend trying it. The service was fair, maybe some workers are not having the best day and it's understandable. It be like that sometimes. read more

This is just eh for me. It's my closest coffee shop down the street and I can always find parking and a place to sit to work but the coffee is incredibly weak. Staff is always sweet, friendly, and helpful but if Im paying $7+ for coffee Id like to taste the coffee. read more

Had to change my 5 to a 3. Here's why: I placed my order and sat down to wait while they heated my pastry, the two girls were working hard with about 1 customer every couple min. The owner was standing around on his phone with dirty tables and every time the girls were trying to complete orders he was there. It's like he didn't want to leave and he didn't want to be there either. The ladies working seemed to be kinda new. He stopped what he was doing to interview another potential employee who was also the same age as the people working there. All female crew. No men. Except him. Just an observation. Here's where it was odd. They didn't have any napkins available anywhere so I asked the only person who wasn't busy for some and he deferred me to the end of the counter where I had originally looked for napkins so I went back there thinking I must have missed them. He could have just handed me a napkin instead of making me go back to the end of the counter or instead of making me feel stupid for asking for a napkin. He then went back to his phone and I went to the end of the counter and scoured the place where it seemed they should be.... no napkins. I now have to go back there to the only employee who isn't doing anything and once again ask for a napkin. (They don't give you one when you order finger food, hot or cold drinks) The owner, he has a blank look on his face as if to say I already told you where they are. He then says "oh are we out of napkins?" and I'm thinking we ARE, especially me. I need a napkin, again. He doesn't actually give me a napkin. Ever. He literally turns around and grabs 7 napkins from his stash, shows them to me, then walks down to the end of the counter and places all seven in a napkin holder and walks off. WTF? Oh and he goes back to his phone until someone asks him about his playlist. So many things are odd about this customer service model and what is 7 napkins going to do? He is either anticipating only 7 more people will need a napkin, or that he will need to restock them again and enjoys doing so, or he secretly wants to have 7 more moments of making the customer feel awkward for asking for a napkin, that should be handed out with every purchase of baked goods. Period. Like a normal establishment. I really liked this place when it first opened and now they are finding their groove but it's still so far away from being a great experience. The tips would be bigger if friendliness was a priority and if the owner isn't feeling friendly enough to hand out napkins then the staff will follow suit and not be as friendly either. The service is average at best. The options are average. The environment is cool but it's also rough and that's what makes it cool however in that setting, every space customers use and see has to be immaculate. The tables all have to be totally spotless and super clean including inside the seats. No crumbs. The equipment is breaking, the space is wearing out and the bathrooms are disgusting and again if you capitalize on grunge looking floors and walls you've got to have perfect spaces for customers that look, smell and feel clean because the rest of the place doesn't. This place has so much potential but potential doesn't pay the bills. read more

Second time here and they might have renovated the place since I was here last, not sure. So far I have tried their blueberry waffle, oatmilk cappuccino, mint tea (first visit) and they were all great! Their mint tea was actually one of the best ones I've had and I wanted to order it today but also wanted to try their coffee. The place gives me the bohemian vibes. I love the seating areas especially the outdoor one in the back. When we came today- there was only one person working. I kinda felt bad but she did great considering there were a few customers. I was glad that those customers were patient, understanding and kind. read more

Great solid coffee joint. Honestly no real complaints other than I wish they listed more of the syrups they can add to their coffees. The menu is pretty simple and straight forward (basic coffee offerings like lattes, macchiatos, cappuccinos). They did have this fire UBE DRINK. Was in the area for car week and was in desperate need of some caffeine and something refreshing. I decided to order one of the specials- matcha rose water lemonade ($6). This was absolutely delicious!!! These flavors work so well together. I'm dying to recreate this at home. Thanks for the inspo. Service was quick and friendly, however, I did witness some frustration from the staff when calling out orders for the 3rd or 4th time. I understand the frustration but some of the orders they were calling out for were customers that were in the bathroom. The overall vibes are very hipster. Well made drinks, cool interior design and decor. My mom and I typically meet here for a beverage a couple times a month. We've found that for the last 3 months, the business isn't open on time, or the staff is super rude and completely unprofessional. We accepted those stumbling point, in light of their drinks. Today was pretty much the last straw. The girl who "helped" me didn't even say "hi" or "how can I help you" or "what can I get you". She just stood there (doing literally nothing) like I'm doing her a favor in coming by and spending $8 each on 2 espresso & tonics lol She was super friendly and overly talkative to a man who dropped off some supplies only minutes after, though. I must not have been doing enough for her to earn her conversation I know this business doesn't care about reviews, or their customers, since many of their reviews mention their dismal customer service skills. Likewise, this business even posts negative reviews on their social media to mock their customers. All that said, hopefully the girl with the tan shirt, who worked around 9am today, can improve her attitude and gain an ounce of customer service skills. While the service was fair, the coffee (blueberry cold brew) was awful---tossed it after two sips--and the orange white chocolate scone- chewier than some of the chewiest breads I've had, when scones should be flaky and delicate. first of all i love the vibe here it's so sick, these people KNOW their coffee. it wasn't too busy considering it's a sunday morning but also two people behind bar. props to yall. drinks came out pretty fast and here's the verdict, pandan latte: amazing flavors just a tad too sweet and wish there was more coffee present we also did ask for it hot but got it iced & didn't want to bother yall bc we had to go home soon. honey latte with almondmilk: delicious. bold espresso good steamed milk with a touch of sweetness. banana bread matcha latte: once again amazing flavors but unfortunately way too sweet and hardly any matcha taste wouldn't recommend. hot chocolate: simple and delicious. overall i'd give this place another shot just ask for less sweet on the drinks. The plain bagel is so delicious get it with both the cream cheese and jam. 10/10. And psa as a fellow barista... listen to the psa. read more

As a former college barista, I have a healthy respect for how much time and effort goes into making good drinks. I also have serious admiration when I see genius and delicious concoctions being made. The Undertow is not one of my favorite drinks- it IS my favorite drink in the whole world. In the middle of our PCH road trip I had hubs stop in Seaside just so I could get two of this masterpiece. Three distinct layers: vanilla syrup, oat milk, espresso- and the temperature differences add to the complexity of the drink. Thank you so much to Alex and Josie, who were amazing at assembling such a finicky but perfect drink, and also heated up a tasty AF fiselle (prosciutto, mayo, mustard and havarti) panini for me. I drank my undertows at the counter like shots, and by the time I was done the fiselle was ready to take to go. This short but sweet visit was the most magical start to the day, and will definitely be one of the highlights of a 3.5 week road trip. Thanks again Counterpoint!!! PSA: TIP YOUR BARISTAS WELL!!! This coffee shop is easily missed if you are unaware of it. A friend had seen it so decided to try it. Not sure how many times I passed right by and never noticed it was there. There is not a lot of parking only on-street parking out front. When you walk in you are hit with the eccentric setup of this place. It's pretty cool. Not only do they serve coffee but beer and wine as well. We got americanos which are served in actual coffee cups if staying there instead of paper to go cups which was nice. The coffee was good and the barista was nice. I will be back for sure. read more
