OKAY...I wish I could give 2 reviews. The final product from Cougar is awesome. I am very pleased with the new 8-station, 70+ head system they installed. Getting there was not a pleasant experience AT ALL. Storms seemed willing to work with me and answer questions at first, once I paid my 50% down payment....I never spoke to him again and Matt never would return any calls. Before I gave my down payment I asked if they would provide a preliminary rough drawing of the layout and trenches. They agreed. I have a full half-acre and septic system, so I was concerned about trench/head placement. I also gave some specific location requests. Storms kept emailing me it was coming, and I never got it. The DAY BEFORE install was scheduled they flagged my property. They told me they would be out at least 2 days prior. There were flags in the middle of my leach field, and flags in places I specifically told Storms that I did not want heads or trenches. Nick (the foreman?) came out and met with me and saved the job. I had intended on canceling and going with anotehr company. Nick was awesome. He understood my issues and we quickly resolved them before they made one trench in the yard. I also asked Storms for information and quote on the full ET Weather Station. (side note: I know quite bit about sprinkler systems). Storms copy and pastes a paragraph from Rainbird's website (Thanks Storms), and never got me a price. Matt needs to quit wasting time responding to posts on Yelp and learn how to deal with customers before there are problems. Nothing I hate more than to be told "we're busy". Being busy shouldn't require me to lower my expectations when I am paying multiple thousands of dollars for services. Thanks to Nick....Matt and Storms? Not so much. read more

They were absolutely the worst company that we dealt with in our entire remodel project. Matt did not show up one Saturday, when we made a special trip to the site to meet with him. When we tried to call several times he did not answer and never called to let us know he was not showing up. He actually reprimanded me the next day for calling his "personal" line on weekends! Much of the work that they did had to be redone by another company and he is just rude. read more

It looks like poor communication, no show appointments without calls, and vehicle trouble are a common occurrence with this company. I wish you could post a rating with no stars. I found Cougar Irrigation by reading reviews on yelp a few months ago. I chose them because many customers had great things to say, and I really value referral based services. I setup an appointment with them, and ended up waiting at my house the entire day with no luck of them coming out. I made several attempts to contact them and left a message letting them know how disappointed I was that I took the day off to sit around waiting on them. The next day their office manager called because she said she received my message about rescheduling. No apology about standing me up, just acted like I was inquiring about a reschedule. Like Brian P., I too got the truck trouble excuse as the reason. I told her that I wasn't interested anymore, and luckily, the sprinkler problem corrected itself. Fast forward to a few days ago, and the same sprinkler issue turns up again. I decided to call Cougar again to give them a second chance. The girl I spoke with was very nice, understanding of my previous experience, let me know the previous office manager was no longer there, and assured me that it would be different. I made it very clear to her that I was giving them a second chance although I was a little skeptical. My appointment was for 8am this morning, I got a call from Matt last night to confirm my 8am appointment today, and guess what... I was standing there waiting for them for 20 minutes without a call or anything. I called the office to find out what was going on, and just like last time, I couldn't reach anyone. 45 minutes after the appointment was supposed to happen, I got a call from one of their guys telling me he would be there in 10 minutes. So it's obvious that time management isn't one of their strengths. Needless to say I didn't wait around for this company. I never post reviews about stuff because I understand that unfortunate situations come up. But it seems like a pattern with this company, so please be cautious if you choose to gamble with them. read more

I recently used them for a new system and would not recommend them. They showed up early (good thing) but did not give me time to get the yard ready as discussed. They cut a piece of wire from my fence to use and did not let me know. The did a really poor job running wire inside my garage. They left major lines across my lawn with a bunch of rocks in the grass and tried to call them caliche (as I picked them up, it was easy to tell the difference between rock and hard dirt). Half the spinkler heads are lower than the lawn. They still have not given me a promised accurate drawing of the layout. REALLY poor follow up and communication. The soaker hoses in flower beads were run OVER some of my bushes (they did repair this, but should never have done it in the first place). They put a sprinkler head infront of a gate. I could go on, but I think you get the picture.... They can likely do good repair work, but would not use them again for a system install. read more

Based on the other reviews I'd read here, I was looking forward to doing business with Cougar. Alas, they didn't keep their appointment and did a very poor job of communicating. read more

Matt is awesome. Yesterday, after doing some yardwork, I decided to turn on one of the sprinklers to water the new area. Nothing. With a sinking feeling tried all the others, and still got nothing. Panic setting in, googled it, went to various forums, peered into the controller box, bypassed the rain sensor, did all the logical things my engineer brain said to do, and still nothing. Finally gave up and went to yelp. Found Matt here, and saw a comment from someone saying he picks up the phone on Saturdays. Called him, and not only did he pick up the phone, but he explained to me what my problem was (rain sensor had tripped, and could *not* be bypassed). He explained to me why the bypass didn't work, told me how to work around it, waited for me to try it out, and voila! Spinklers! When I hung up, I didn't feel right that he had spent his time (Saturday afternoon!) for nothing. It was a short call, but still. He could have turned it into a nice house call for Monday morning. Anyway, felt thankful enough to go to paypal and zip him a little token of my appreciation. More than that, I'm hoping the yelp note will get him more real business!! read more

We had a great experience with Cougar Irrigation. Matt Stamm, the owner, took care of our yard. Matt was very professional and thorough in the spec-ing and quoting our sprinkler system, always willing to answer questions. He gave us frequent updates on the status of the project and any issues that arose. Matt and his crew were even conscientious of us and our neighbors' sleep, waiting until mid-morning to use any power equipment. Once the system was installed, he gave us laminated maps of the head locations and spent lots of time explaining how our new sprinkler system worked. Our project was completed in a timely fashion and we were charged the price he was quoted. Our lawn looks awesome, and we couldn't ask for more! read more

Shaun was courteous and fixed my sprinkler heads fast! Thank you Cougar. Kay

I can see why Cougar has great ratings! Came, fixed cut wires and adjusted the sprinkler heads all in less than 15 minutes. Super competent, super fast and a very nice guy! Oh and reasonable rates too! Thanks Matt, you're awesome!! I would definitely call them again for adjustments or a new system installed. read more

Cougar is good, but not consistent. At my home in Austin, they were awesome, but at my rental property in Round Rock, I had to call them back to finish the job. I think they would do great at a new installation. And maybe I just got them during the busy season. My word of advice is that whoever you use, double check each and everyone of the sprinklers are working. read more

These guys were prompt and professional. They did the work as promised-what more can you ask?

Great customer service! Samantha at the office was so helpful, she was polite and prompt. The tech that came out (Shaun) was on time and professional. He fixed our sprinkler system and educated us on the control box and zones. I would recommend Cougar and will definitely use them again. Thanks! read more

I called lots of sprinkler repair people and Matt was the only one to promptly return my phone calls. I was orchestrating a repair from out of state and he was great to work with my renters in Round Rock as well as to take payment via paypal. He also offered a less expensive solution than the other quotes I got. Thanks Matt! read more

Matt is amazing! Really knows his stuff. Great communication and honest. Did not over charge me like some other quotes I got for the exact same work. Would (and have) reccomended him to everyone I know. read more

I walked outside this morning and saw a lot of pooling water in front of my house. I found the source and, assuming it was a sprinkler issue, called Matt at ~8am (outside of their regular work hours). Matt answered, helped me diagnose the issue, determined it was a plumbing issue, and then gave me the name of a good plumber he had worked with previously. I'm definitely calling Matt back for the sprinkler repair work I have. Thanks Matt! read more

Interviewed 3 companies and chose Cougar Irrigation. Signed $12,000 contract with understanding work had to be accomplished by certain date as we were leaving town. Agreed to begin on a Monday. As the date approached, none of my voicemails, e-mails or texts requesting a start time and other information were answered. Cougar finally responded on Sunday night that start date was changed to Wednesday at 7:00 am. Waited on Wednesday, but he was a no-show. Then noticed he sent email on Wednesday, at 6:59 am, stating he would now start work on Friday. Again, never showed on Friday and never contacted me. When I called, he sent a text stating work would begin on Monday, three days before our departure. We cancelled contract at that point and were refunded same day. Not sure of the issue with Cougar, but it appears he may have high-priced jobs that arise, so he skips or delays the "cheaper" jobs. Communication is non-existent, don't even try. If he told me when I signed contract he could not guarantee start date, I would have chosen another company. Now we are leaving a long-term trip with cheap sprinklers on timers. Terrible way to do business. read more

One of my sprinkler heads was broken last month, so I got on Yelp to see who I should use to fix it. Matt from Cougar Irrigation was able to come out and fix it the same day for a competitive price, so I was thrilled. He even told me how to fix one of my landscape lights that was broken, and he gave me a cool sticker to put on the door of my sprinkler system. He was very nice too. read more

Matt and his guys installed a backyard system and tied it into the front. The trenching to get between the yards was pretty challenging as was the wiring, but they did a great job and actually left the yard looking better than they found it. Matt walked me through the new controller and had even given me run-times for my front yard zones based on the heads/coverage. I haven't had to actually use the system yet but I was very satisfied with the price and service. read more

Used these guys last week (October 19, 2012). Everything was handled in one visit: evaluation and repair. They could've sold me stuff I didn't need, but did not. In fact, Matt was friendly, helpful, and straightforward. Great experience, good value. Prompt and professional service. Thanks to those who reviewed earlier in Yelp! That led me to Cougar. read more

Honest, fair, good work. Matt makes things right.

Matt and his team are great. They are a fun small business who knows their stuff! I had to wait a few days for them to come out, BUT it was well worth the wait. Response time was well within reason as I am not a "need it now" person. I would rather wait to have a professional, who is diligent and reasonable. Take the time, be patient and trust that they know their business. read more

I came home at 6:00 on a Monday to a sprinkler zone free flowing which usually means a valve or something of that nature has failed. After getting the water turned off at the main cutoff for the system, I called and Matt answered the phone (while at the park with his 2 kids) at about 7PM. He said he could get by at about 9:30 the next morning and I emailed him my address since he wasn't somewhere he could write it down. When he arrived he was able to fairly quickly find and identify the failed underground part. He made a quick trip to get a replacement part, came back and had it all fixed for $135 within about an hour. It's pretty clear with his electrical and engineering background he's competent to troubleshoot and idnetify the problem and get it resolved. On top of that he's reasonable on his prices and communicates well as to the timing of the service call and what's going to be needed. Good time management, reasonable prices and competent service = A+ read more

Put simply, Cougar Irrigation is the right choice. After reading all the other reviews it really seemed like Cougar just had to be the right choice. I am happy to say they even exceeded my high expectations. I had them install a sprinkler system covering my front and backyard, as well as a drip zone for my rose bushes. They also installed sod in my backyard. Everything works well and looks great. I even got an added bonus. I have very low water pressure and have called the city about it several times to no effect. Matt tested the pressure and found that is was actually below code and called the city and continued to follow up with them. The city finally came out, dug up the street in front of my house and fixed the water pressure. This water pressure upgrade was worth the cost of the system alone read more

We used Cougar Irrigation recently to come out to our new house and locate all of the sprinkler heads, etc. before we had a playscape professionally installed. The first appointment I made was a no show and I didn't receive a phone call, hence only four stars instead of five. I called them back the next week and Matt was very nice about everything and came out himself to do the job. He was efficient and helpful with suggestions about where the playscape should go without hindering our sprinkler system. We would definitely use Matt and Co. again if we should require further help. Their prices are very competitive and they don't give you the usual BS that a lot of companies these days will tell you to make extra $$. read more

I have used Cougar twice and if I need anything will use them again. Very prompt service, quickly figured out my multiple problems and fixed everything. Matt had the opportunity to charge me more for something but instead did business the right way and explained to me why I did not need to do anything at all on one of my issues. GREAT SERVICE GREAT PRICE.. read more

I had been using Cougar satisfactorily for a few years but have now abandoned them. Response generally poor with no phone pick-up (ever), several days wait on email response, lost messages etc. When an appointment finally made, the technician showed up for aeration/fertilizing with no aerator or fertilizer (!!!). I then cancelled and the poor guy showed up later as the office had failed to tell him. All in all, a shambolic company with poor communication and scheduling skills. read more

I wanted to like these guys, I really did. They had proper paperwork and credentials but in the end, it was just a way for them to mark up their price over other competitors quite a bit for similar type work. The rep (project manager he called himself) that came to our place to do the pricing and layout for a sprinkler system install was ok. When it came time to do the work, I dont think I saw him onsite that day (I work from home so monitored). Their guys came out and did the work and just ran with it. They finished in 1.5 days but did a poor job. I had drip hoses that routed off to the edge of the flower bed next to the retainer wall (sp) where no plants were. This made no sense to me. I also had white pvc pipes in the flower bed connected to the water line that were so high up above the driveway that they will never be submerged properly from view. Talk about an eye sore at my entry way. After their install was completed, I had to wait 1-2 weeks to get someone out (I never called...wanted to see how long it'd take) to explain how to use the system and to do the final check. Matt was the person that came out and while he was very knowledgeable (I asked him various random questions), he is the only reason I gave the rating i did. One important reason why they received such a bad review from me was the fact they are all about being "green" and dont want to replace the dug up soil with sod. They say that because the sod requires a lot of watering. That's some BS right there because sod can surprisingly do well with watering neglect. It's so they can cut costs and give you an inferior product. I shook my head but went with it and boy I felt stupid They use a very invasive digging machine to dig their trenches. Once done, you see very tacky soil lines all throughout the lawn. Uncovered with sod, weeds will grow in those very spots - not grass. The weeds were out of control and atrocious to deal with. Not to mention all the rocks that were dug up. I cut my own grass so I had to literally pick up all of the larger rocks in the soil lines they left before I could cut. I definitely should have paid the extra money to get them to lay sod down. This isnt entirely their fault but Im knocking them for it because a) they should have warned me about the weeds, b) shouldnt have been cheap on sod because most other places replace their work with sod or just cut through the soil and replace the sod like new, and c) leave trails of soil lines on your lawn and call it a day? Really? I spoke with other people once they saw we had sprinklers installed and I think I overpaid big time. You wanna feel good after a big purchase that you made the right choice and paid good money for it - I just felt so bad after the dust had settled. I really didnt want to tell people how much I paid. All that extra money went to paperwork and insurance or something but the value for the work I feel was really low. In the end, I will not choose this company again and I advise people to stay away. Their shiny certifications dont mean much when they give poor work. Just dont. read more

The owner of Cougar irrigation, Matt Stamm should be called Matt Scam! He charged us over $500 for an irrigation controller that he said he would replace when he did the final install. Then he didn't show up to do that installation on the day he said he would, didn't call to let us know he would not be showing up, and has not returned phone calls in several days. We will be reporting him to the Better Business Bureau and filing legal action against him. He is unprofessional and a liar. DO NOT HIRE HIM!! read more

WORST, non-existent customer service thus far. We called them to come look at our sprinkler system and wanted to re-due it as well as do major landscaping which they said they could do. I figured since it would be a big job that I would hear back from them and then gentleman told me that the $75 fee would be credited once they started the work. Well, flash forward to two-three weeks later and after calling many times and leaving messages I had yet to hear from them, no quote on the work, no follow up, no returning of my calls. I was really confused, what company wouldn't want to get paid to do a job? Well Cougar Irrigation didn't want to clearly. The only time I finally heard from them was when I received an invoice of which I quickly wrote a letter saying I would not be paying for it, I was still waiting on a quote but seeing how horrible they were about customer service before having me stuck with them, I was not about to use them, I could only imagine how they would be no shows if anything they installed went awry. But I would have to assume they would actually show up to do any work which I had little faith in. A snarky email from an employee, heck it could have been the owner for all I know saying that they have a computer system that sends them emails when a message is left and they only showed me as leaving 3 so why was I so upset. I was like, really, I called at least 20 times over a two to three week period, not once did anyone answer the phone, so most of those times I did not leave a voice mail. Regardless, leaving three voice mails and never getting a return call is ridiculous. I would run from these people, I dogged a bullet by not using them for the actual job, I can only imagine what a disaster that would have been. read more

I called them 2 weeks ago to get a bid based the reviews I read on Yelp. I was told someone would provide it in no more than 3 business days. When I still had heard nothing by business-day 6, I called & left a message asking if//when I could expect to hear back from them. That was over a week ago & I still have heard nothing. Can't rate their work, but I sure can promise I'd never hire them now based on this! read more

We first used Cougar Irrigation in 2009 to install our sprinkler system after we lost a tree in our backyard from the drought. Matt was so thorough and informative throughout the whole process, did a wonderful job and left us with lovely plans and documents on everything he did, we were delighted with our new system. It has done the job wonderfully the 5 years since then and the few times we have had to call Cougar for maintenance on the system they were courteous, prompt and quick to respond. We have had them out to check the system just three times, once to clean the solar sync port after the dry, dusty summer; once to repair a line that broke when our neighbor ran over it and the most recent to re-route the line away from the neighbor's driveway to avoid future breaks from these people that can't seem to stay on the driveway. Each time their response and work has been great and we are very pleased with the results. I highly recommend Cougar Irrigation. read more

My landscaper recommended that we contact Cougar before starting some landscaping work--our sprinkler system had been broken for a year and I had been told that it would be a very expensive fix. And the final cost was extremely reasonable. I appreciate the help from these guys and will use them again. read more

We were having some issues with our sprinklers, so I read the reviews on yelp and decided to go with Cougar repair. Matt was super easy to work with as far as communicating. I liked that he was open to working through text messaging to set up our appointment times since my schedule is not set. He came out and checked out the yard and did the whole red/blue flag thing that others talked about. I loved that he worked with me in regards to my budget and what our needs were to get my yard back to looking green. He was on time, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. I felt like I got top notch service without breaking the bank. We would def recommend Matt to anyone that needs irrigation assistance. read more
