Excellent service for my sprinklers each year. They adjust and fix the sprinklers at a reasonable cost.

There are a lot of companies that have decided to take advantage of the fact that a lot of people don't know what goods or services should cost and so they mark their products or services up to a crazy level. Cougar Irrigation does not in any way do that. I just had them out to do a Springtime start up and evaluation. The technician that showed up (On time) would qualify for a doctorate in irrigation systems if one was offered. Just his complete knowledge of how sprinkler systems work immediately put me at ease. I was prepared mentally for a substantial bill but this company is not one that spends my money unneccessarily. I was pleasantly surprised. I can highly reccommend Cougar Irrigation to my friends and followers. read more

I called two different times over two weeks and they never returned my phone calls. I then reached out via email and asked them to contact me about repairing and replacing parts of my sprinkler system and filled out a detailed form. They had done work in my neighborhood so I thought I would give them a try and like to support local businesses . I was extremely disappointed as I never received a phone call or message or contacted me over about a 3 1/2 week period. I have happily moved on after realizing if they wouldn't even call back, it might be a red flag. read more

Cougar Irrigation has always been reliable. He even helped add height to some of my sprinklers that were not reaching some of my plants in the center of my garden as the plants in front were blocking the center from getting water. Did a great job and it worked perfectly! Cost was very reasonable. read more

Matt helped progran my sprinklers after xeriscaping my back yard. I appreciate his expertise, and he explains in detail what he is doing.

Our HOA contracts with Cougar for maintaining irrigation at two very large areas. Matt is quick to reply on irrigation issues. His company has highly qualified specialists. Many of my neighbors use Cougar Irrigation for year round lawn services. Highly recommend Cougar Irrigation. read more

It would be nice if they would return calls or show up at appointments. I have used them on and off for years but had to find other companies when they go radio silent like this. I really don't understand what is going on. read more

We have used Cougar Irrigation for several years and met Matt, the owner, when he installed our neighbors system. He is very knowledgeable, courteous, He and his crew do excellent work. We just built an ADU behind our house and he added to the system for that house and also installed new grass sod for it. I highly recommend Cougar! monte smith--Brentwood read more

We had a leak in our system, caused by construction of a new deck. Cougar Irrigation came out on time and not only fixed the leak, but modified the lines so that it would be less likely to break in the future. They also checked all the zones, and found that the deck contractor had missed a rotary head under the deck. They adjusted the zone run time to 1 minute, and let me know my options. Cost was low. Very satisfied - would work with them again. read more

We've been using Cougar Irrigation for many years now, at both my house and my daughter's. They've always been very responsive, competent, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend Cougar Irrigation. read more

I had scheduled for them to come to my house for work a few weeks ago on their website. I reached out a week later and left them a few voice mails to confirm they were coming. The result - crickets, meaning no email, no return call, nada. I wonder if they're too busy, on vacation, or out of business. I used them in the past and had good service. I would of used them last year as well - but they took weeks to get back to me to check if I needed service - I already had someone at my house a week earlier. So if you can get a hold of them, they do good work - just the first part is hard, at least last few weeks. I usually don't post a negative review, but thought to let others know if you don't hear from them, assume they will not be help you out. read more

I can't say enough good things about them! They are my go to for irrigation issues, the are prompt, helpful, and have a great price point!

Short story: I got charged $90 for a free estimate for sprinkler head replacements. While I got my money back, I'm still no further with fixing my sprinklers. Long story: So I was planning on just deleting my previous review altogether, but that would mean that the overall rating for Cougar Irrigation would go up. While I still believe that Matt knows what he is doing at Cougar Irrigation, I'm not entirely sure that the communication is up to snuff. We wanted to discuss additional sprinkler needs (raising heads or discussing replacing our 4" popups with 6" ones). I intentionally did not mow the weekend before they came because I wanted them to understand the length of grass that I wanted my sprinklers to clear. My wife scheduled a free estimate (per their website) to get our situation evaluated. What happened is that a service technician showed up, told her that we needed to mow our grass because it's too long for the sprinklers, and lastly charged $90 for this. After trying to [unsuccessfully] get this situation resolved with the administrative person at Cougar, Matt ultimately made it right and voided my check. I've got a pretty bad taste in my mouth after this experience with Cougar Irrigation, but I also know that all good companies have bad days. I do appreciate Matt resolving this the way that it should have been, but I'm still no further than I was when I started -- I need an estimate for 6" popups. read more

Cougar Irrigation is a terrific company. I called and got a next-day appointment (it wasn't an emergency), and Matt showed up when he said he would. We talked for about 5 minutes about the problem (a leak somewhere in the system) and how I wanted him to do a once-over of the entire system, since it hadn't been used in years. He located the leak in about 2 minutes and fixed it promptly. Then he went around and adjusted all the nozzles and such and reprogrammed the unit to water when Austin lets you water and adjusted the rain sensor so it would function properly. Matt is a nice guy who knows his field well and does very highly quality work. read more

I really hate writing negative reviews for local businesses, but I had an appointment w/ these guys at 7:30 am and they no showed. I called at 8:45 am and they informed me that their technician had vehicle trouble. They asked if they could reschedule same day - I said - OK sure - and then I was told they couldn't make it that day due to where I live (lakeway). Keep in mind, this is an appointment that has been set for over a week. Things happen, people are late, things break - I get that. Not getting a phone call is completely unacceptable. read more

Tired of dealing with a slap-dash, jerry-rigged irrigation systems? Tired of hiring unprofessional knuckleheads who "fix" your irrigation system in a Three Stooges-esque manner, resulting in multiple new leaks and a busted sprinkler head? Then call Cougar Irrigation. Yes, I know - I expected to see a woman in her early to mid 40's arrive to fix the system. While that didn't happen, the tech who came to examine the issues we were having was professional, on time, and courteous. He was clear and up front with the limitations of the system - our "hand made" Do-it-yourself sprinkler system was in a bad way from the start. The previous homeowner fancied themselves not only a Mr. Fix-it but also an irrigation specialist, and it was clear that he'd done a less than stellar job setting everything up. The tech explained my options clearly, stating what he could do and the costs associated with each option. I chose the "put a bandaid on it and hope it still works" option, which was the most cost effective after dropping several hundred dollars previously with another company for a quarter of the work and a fraction of the quality that Cougar Irrigation managed at half the price. The system now works exactly as it was expected to and I can actually water my lawn. (Note: I water the lawn in the late evening or at night - I'm well aware of drought conditions and how "selfish" I am for using so much precious water, even though it actually gets pretty much recycled not unlike all the water you waste brushing your teeth or flushing your toilet). read more

We are fairly disappointed with these folks right now. A couple of weeks ago, they were out to fix our sprinkler system which was destroyed by a horrible plumber who switched our septic system over to city sewer. We were so happy to finally have our sprinklers fixed, until...I found a bunch of wires sticking up out of our ground. ??? Long and short: Cougar Irrigation has not buried the wires far enough underground, AND they have not fixed the problem, though they have come back out to check them. If they are supposed to be "not really" buried underground, please just let me know! I'm afraid to go over the area with a weed-eater, and I'm afraid to dig anywhere in the area to plant flowers/plants. Please help! read more

My first experience with Cougar was fantastic. My second was not. I saw Matt (the owner, same as before) for a checkup as I had noticed a few leaks in my drip lines. I could make a story out of this I suppose, but the big issue was that after double-checking my lines he missed over a dozen leaks, all of which were significant. I ended up repairing these myself as I frankly didn't trust anyone else to do the work properly, and with drip lines doing the work poorly is in many ways worse than not doing it at all. Needless to say this was pretty irritating, but to be fair, I did NOT call Cougar to attempt to fix the problem a second time. I may try them again in the future but I will have to double-check their work, which is unfortunate and time consuming. So yeah. Use with caution. read more

Matt's a freaking Zen master of irrigation systems. After the City of Austin backhoe'd my front yard, I had a broken irrigation system. Matt was able to come out and diagnose the issue (a busted line care of errant backhoe) and provide an estimate without digging up the line. He was out the next business day and fixed the problem in under an hour. Keep in mind they are busy, especially this time of year, so it may be a few days before they can get to you. Once we finally got in touch and in the yard at the same time, he was quick to fix the issue and even gave me a quick tutorial on my system for a fixed price. Good service and great communication skills make this a really great Austin business. read more

The owner responded to my review a few weeks later - I appreciate the response and it helps clarify things. His response was to me directly, not a public response, which means he was interested in making sure I felt I personally had a good experience. That deserves the extra star in my opinion. His response is below. ==== Hi, Thanks for the positive review and feedback. Regarding the 3 day repair, rain was an issue as mentioned and your landscape lights used bulbs we did not have on the truck and our supplier did not have in stock so it took us a little longer than we would have liked to get the bulbs. We have your type and brand of bulb in stock and on our truck now for quicker future repairs. Thanks, Matt ==== read more

I decided to use Cougar based on the Yelp reviews, and I'm very glad that I did. The reason that I needed to hire them is that the previous company that I used to install my sprikler system was so incompetent that I couldn't handle having them back out for fear of what they might mess up next. Cougar has been on time every time they've been scheduled to come out. They are very knowledgeable and have very reasonable pricing. I have no complaints about their work or professionalism and will not hesitate to use them in the future. read more

Had a sprinkler head with a major leak that I didn't need fixed immediately with the amount of rain we've had and are going to have, but needed it fixed before the heat sets in. Made an appt yesterday and they were here this morning. Rick was knowledgeable and had the problem fixed quickly, and then used the rest of the hour service call to check and repair the rest of the system, adjusting some heads and swapping out a couple for better spray patterns. Will be using them again when I put some drip lines in. Their billing is quick & easy, they email you an invoice and they have multiple ways to pay online. I used the PayPal option. read more

Used cougar to put in a pressure regulator valve on my irrigation system. I used them because they are licensed with the professional landscaping association and also great yelp reviews. I was thinking about doing some other things in addition to the PRV - and Matt spent an endless amount of time with me going over the pro's/cons, my options, etc. I really appreciated his effort and he was a *great* communicator through email - something that is very important to me. One of Matt's employees (Shaun) was sent out to do the work. He was a super cool and chill guy. Most importantly, he seemed to do the job right - even though it took twice as long as they thought it would, he wanted to take his time and extra effort to do it perfect the first time. I will use Matt and he crew again read more

Matt and his crew at Cougar are hard workers. We had a surprisingly old sprinkler system, but they knew what to do and we were up and running the next day. Very responsive. Super friendly. He e-mailed me the invoice the next morning. Added them to my address book. I won't be calling anyone else to solve sprinkler problems. read more

I selected Cougar Irrigation to install a new sprinkler system after reading the reviews on Yelp! I have to say they lived up to their great reputation. Storms (yes, that's his name) came out to take measurements and size up the job and shot me a quote a couple of days later. The crew got to work on time and finished in 2 days. Matt, the owner, was on the scene and personally attended to several tricky areas of the system. He even programmed the controller for me with the standard settings. The design makes sense on paper and in practice. After a week or so I needed to tweak a couple of sprinkler heads and Matt showed up promptly to take care of them. Considering how busy he is, I was surprised how much time he spent explaining things to me, showing me how the components worked and generally satisfying my inner nerd. Matt runs a tight ship and he's a nice guy too! read more

This one will be short but sweet: I made my request for work online, and within a couple hours, had an appointment set up. It was a Friday afternoon, so they set me up for Monday morning, which is great (non-emergency situation). Shaun - or is it Sean or Shawn...I don't know - came out to fix a valve and a couple broken heads on my 20-year-old sprinkler system. He was quick, professional and courteous. Dude did a great job. He even had some good ideas for how I could improve the landscape/irrigation system in my backyard, which I desperately need. I was expecting to have to pay a ton for the work, but when he gave me the total, I was pleasantly surprised and didn't feel like I was being gouged at all. I also appreciate the paperless receipt they sent me via email. read more

The vines and rose area around our office didn't seem to be getting enough water and the 100 degree temps weren't helping. We decided to finally get our irrigation system professionally looked at. I called Cougar Irrigation and made an appointment within the week for owner Matt to come by. He was very punctual in his arrival. His quote was detailed and reasonable for the services we needed. Within the week he performed the replacement of nozzles, filters and a riser. Matt also took care of a drip line that was clogged up and reprogrammed our timer for a more efficient watering in the 90+ degree heat. Since we were out of the office when he did the work Matt followed up with an email that same evening to review what was done. Based on our experience I would use Matt and Cougar Irrigation in the future and highly recommend his services! read more

I called Cougar Irrigation based the great reviews on Yelp and they did not disappoint. I called Tuesday morning and spoke with Matt who went out to my house by 3pm that same afternoon. He checked my system, replaced the broken head that had cost me a few hundred on my water bill (need to glance at that a bit harder every month from now on!) as well as a broken nipple and two leaky cans (heh, heh). Matt also told me I was way overwatering and recommended that this time of year 8-12 minutes per zone twice a week is sufficient to keep the lawn's roots alive. All in all, the work cost me $85 and I will probably save that just on my water bill in the next year. read more

We had a really small job but they still came out, treated us wonderfully and took care of it quickly, on time and with efficiency. Matt is a very knowledgeable guy, even understanding some of the latest technologies in the field (yeah, I have an internet-enabled sprinkler system.) Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone and I think I will be using them from now on, replacing the guy that has been doing work for me over the past 20 years. read more

We have a 9-year old home and the sprinkler system is no longer under warranty. As the second owner, I was not too familiar with the system. We recently had new sod put in the front yard (May) and after the downfall of rains in May, we didn't start noticing areas of the yard being exceptionally dry until July - the 100 degree temps lately without rain has not helped. I ran my own check of the sprinkler system during the day and noticed a number of the zones and sprinkler heads were either not producing enough water, were not coming out of the ground high enough, or were just missing 3-5 foot areas entirely. As this was over my pay grade, I called Cougar on the recommendation of a neighbor. Communication with the office was efficient and they sent out Shaun the same week. Shaun was extremely knowledgeable, has a good demeanor, and listened to my concerns before getting started on my system. Shaun flushed and adjusted many of the heads, put on new nozzles, raised some heads, and reprogrammed the controller box for a more efficient watering cycle. He also suggested in the future some ways to reduce our monthly water bill by going to drip irrigation in all of the flower beds - but did not put on a hard sell. I will definitely use Cougar again for our sprinkler needs. read more

Had a leak in our sprinkler system in May 2021. Cougar Irrigation replaced the main valve, but the repair failed after 2 months. The pipe leading to the new valve leaked and sprayed around the new joint. We had to turn off water at the main, since the leak was between the main and the irrigation valve. We phoned Cougar and left messages several times over 2 days, plus email, and never got an answer or a response. Found a plumber to fix it instead. Not recommended. read more

Awesome company. Locally owned, trustworthy and prompt. They answer calls quickly and do an awesome job. I would recommend them first. I couldn't be happier with their service, and they don't bombard you with emails. I don't think I've ever seen more than 5 or 6 a year. read more

We didn't hire Cougar directly; they were subcontracted through our landscaping company, Clean Cut Landscaping. We found them to be very professional and knowledgeable--even finding (and fixing) problems with our older system. They were also very proficient with our new Rachio WiFi controller and set up all our zones for us perfectly. Not gonna lie--they weren't cheap. When I first heard their quote I almost choked. However, now that they're done, I feel very satisfied and feel like I got an excellent value for the quality work we received. I would definitely hire them again. read more

We were really pleased with the work Matt did on our irrigation system. It had been installed about 5 years ago and had just sprung a leak. We emailed Matt Saturday evening and got a response that very night, indicating he would call in the morning, which he did. He was there that afternoon and found the leak very quickly. While he was there, we asked him to address a few other issues with our sprinklers that had never been pressing enough to call in someone, such as raising the sprinkler heads above the thatch. What was so great about Matt was he was very professional, answered all of our questions and was very thorough. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and have already given his name to neighbors. read more

We had a great experience with Matt! We are renting a house and our landlord agreed to split the cost with us to repair the sprinkler system. Matt came out on a Thursday evening (they day after we called) and diagnosed our problem and started repair work. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen complication, he was not able to finish on Thursday. Matt came back that Saturday in the morning to finish the job. Unfortunately, there were some wiring problems that were not evident until he had replaced the control box. I was worrying that the cost was going to start skyrocketing. Matt continued to work on Saturday several hours beyond what he originally expected and still only charged us the fee he quoted first thing Saturday morning. I was really surprised by this, but while talking with Matt during his work, I learned the he was a very honest person. Matt works hard to solve the problem, explain the situation to you, and provide you with excellent customer service. Needless to say, I was very impressed and can not recommend him enough. I will definitely use him if needed in the future and recommend him to my friends and coworkers. I did happen to see that Janelle had a problem with Matt showing up. While I am very surprised that he didn't show up, I will say that since he is the owner of the company and the main worker (he has another guy, but he is not licensed yet) I can understand that sometimes jobs run over and he may not be able to meet all commitments in one day. However, from what I can tell he attempts to reschedule ASAP and minimize the inconvenience to his clients. I know that can be annoying, but it really is a very small price to pay for having someone that is honest and truly cares about doing the right thing. That is priceless. Thanks Matt! read more

Recommend! This company has a lot to offer! Cougar was referred to me by an arborist I respect, mainly for landscaping. We needed our old irrigation system brought up to speed as well as some plantings for privacy. The recommendations were very tailored to what I was looking for and I felt like every step of the way the choices were thought out with great advice from Cougar. They also helped with some side projects which went beyond expectations in terms of quality. I would recommend reading their website carefully, it's thorough and will answer many of your questions. You'll also find they offer a lot more than irrigation services. I would certainly use this company again. Best of all, it's a small lovally business and I really felt like the company treated it's staff well from the outside looking in. An added plus is they were on time to every appointment. Fees were reasonable for Austin and the expertise involved. read more

I've used Cougar at two houses for a variety of check-up, re-head, and partial-installation (e.g., redoing sprinklers around a pool) and have always been completely satisfied with their service.
