I was the bride you didn't want showing up on the big day (and yes I mean a total disaster)! From start to finish this team worked with me, calmed me down and cheered me on. The venue was beautiful, the food was delicious, the photographer produced life long memories for my family, Brent kept me updated and on track the entire time, and that wedding planner saved my life all day long! Such a perfect place for our wedding! Cottonwood Cottage has a cozy, rustic beauty. The setting, itself, is fabulous: warm and welcoming rustic ambience that is a beautifully restored sampling of history. We loved the comfortable beauty of the place... it felt like being at home, yet with an artist's touch to make the season pop (we got married between Christmas and New Years). This was the perfect place to stand before our families and say our vows. April does an incredible job with this venue and bringing together all of the little details to make your day perfect. She was absolutely incredible. Everything was taken care of and flowed. I was in another world, thinking of getting married, but nothing went wrong because April kept everything moving in perfect rhythm without even seeming to make an effort. She even took care of the flowers and the food. After showing April the pictures of the floral arrangements that I liked for my bouquet when I met with her prior to the wedding, she produced a bouquet more beautiful than any of the ones that I had picked out. She has an incredible knack of creating effortless, natural beauty. She even organized and prepared all of the food for our family dinner after the ceremony. No bad wedding food, here! What a find! We were on our way from Reno, NV airport to our place in South Tahoe, & found this exceptional cafe on Yelp. It was everything we could have hoped for and more: the food was all very fresh and well prepared, the drinks were delicious and refreshing (try the lemonade w grenadine & vodka!). The owners served us, and we sat outside in the beautifully landscaped private garden (the fence was built to keep deer out of the flowers, but gives patrons privacy), which is set against the beautiful backdrop of the snow capped mountains. I was very impressed with what these two owners have achieved. Gayle and I have visited Cottonwood Cottage twice. The first time was during an Oktoberfest Celebration and the second was today for drinks after exploring parts of Minden and Gardnerville. We were also here before they opened, and had a chance to chat with one of the owners as he was preparing the property from it's Tombstone Days. Before then was a restaurant called Inn Cognito. The Oktoberfest event was a lot of fun. Gayle's Mom was along, a band was playing, and we enjoyed a nice Saturday afternoon while enjoying beers, brats, and other culturally appropriate Lunch fixings. As for today, we ordered drinks (beer for me, martini for Gayle) and sat by the fireplace with April (the other owner) and chatted about the business, our respective backgrounds, historical aspects of the property, and the Genoa community. A couple complimentary cookies were very much appreciated. Cottonwood Cottage is primarily a wedding venue, but on those days not involving matrimonial bliss, this place was very nice to hang out and enjoy a few drinks and maybe a nosh. Superior customer service! We were staying at the David Walley's Resort and was informed of the little town of Genoa, so we went to check out a spot for dinner and stumbled across this newly opened business. Everything we ate and drank was DELICIOUS! This is a husband and wife owned business of less than 3 months, and they've done a fantastic job with the decor and menu. We booked Cottonwood Cottage a year in advance for our daughter's wedding. Loved working with April and Brent on the details. They are both very experienced in large event planning. The venue itself is, well, fun! After the wedding ceremony the area returns to the large, what I called, "outdoor great-room" concept complete with two boccie courts, horseshoe pits, and corn hole. There are plenty of board games and activities for children too. The eating area is adjacent to the game area making it easy for everyone to feel included. The food was plentiful and great. It is one of two things which must be provided by Cottonwood. The other is alcohol. You may use outside vendors for flowers, cake, DJ, extra decor, photography, etc. We used their recommended DJ (McLain's) and cake baker (Simply Cakes). Both were great. April owns Candlelight & Roses, which did a beautiful job on the flowers. April also coordinates all the vendors. We cannot thank April, Brent and staff for the care and attention that made this special day so wonderful. Also, if you just want to have fun at Cottonwood, check their calendar for intermittent dates that they are open as a restaurant to the public. read more

We hired cottonwood cottage to cater our wedding and were so beyond pleased! They initially held a tasting so that we could make our meal selections. We got to test all of the options and decided on Marinated Tritip(to die for), bbq chicken, loaded smashed potatoes, (these were almost as big a hit as the tri tip) roasted veggies, corn bread muffins which were a desert in themselves, and a Caesar salad. We also had appetizers to go with cocktail hour and if you're a fan of mushrooms you need their sausage stuffed mushrooms. Everything was so delicious and flavorful. Our guests ranted and raved. We were so happy with the service we received and let me just say, that food and music is everything and you get what you pay for. They were worth every penny in my book! During fair weather this is a must place to eat at. The outdoor space is wonderful on a mild day and has a number of things to do while waiting for food or enjoying drinks. The BBQ was solid fare as were the sides. A great place to bring guests from out of town. We decided to try Cottonwood Cottage today for lunch. I happened to see they were opening soon and luckily it happened to be on Friday. When we arrived they were fairly busy, most of the tables outside were full but there was no one inside. The owner was kind enough to tell us that one side of the room was cooler due to the location of the swamp cooler. Decent bar selection and my dad and brother seemed happy with the draft beer selection. Three of us ordered tri tip sandwiches and one ordered a wedge salad. The tri tip was excellent, meat was perfectly cooked and the addition of mushrooms, onions and horseradish really added to it. The slaw had a unique spice to it, I thought it may have been some vinegar but I'm not sure. The wedge salad was double the size I'm used to seeing and the side of fruit salad was incredibly fresh fruit. Everything was served on disposable plates and silverware, I'm not sure if this will continue or will just be for opening. The food also took a while but we were warned of this before we even ordered which I appreciated. Service was very good as well. Overall, I think this is a great addition to the area and I hope they succeed cause their food was wonderful!!! read more

The Cottonwood Cottage was the perfect venue for our wedding day! It was truly a special day for us and our family. April and the staff are amazing. The venue is clean and well maintained. The property is lovely and well kept. It doesn't require a ton of decorating to make it beautiful because with the mountains and trees around the venue create a stunning backdrop. The venue price was great and we genuinely feel like it was worth every penny. We searched and searched and toured several places before falling in love with Cottonwood. Someone near and dear to my heart suggested this venue and I am SO lucky that they did!!!!! The bridal suite is huge and the sofa's are really nice when you have children at your wedding. At one point we had two little ones asleep while the guests enjoyed themselves. The grooms suite is very nice. There is plenty of parking (and it can accommodate a large shuttle bus!). The staff is super friendly and VERY attentive. As a team they were on top of everything. They function like a well oiled machine. Weddings can be stressful and this team had my back! My wedding coordinator Scott had the patience of a saint. He even brought me water at one point because we couldn't find my bottle. He helped with the set up and directed all the vendors and helpers with grace and charm. He is really fantastic at what he does! April also was a life saver! I can't say enough about her. She will take good care of you! She will ensure your wedding is as you picture it! She is also great to have on your side if there is an issue with another vendor. She has an excellent ability to mediate in times of confusion and get people on track. She sets a high expectation of her staff on the front end and delivers. Both the Cottonwood Venue and the staff are fantastic! If you are looking for a wedding venue with A++++ service this is your place! These are your people! We went to this great little place today! Brent the owner was amazing, besides serving us with some really great food he visited with us about some local sites to see and things to do. I had the BBQ Bacon Blue Cheese Burger and thought it was excellent. My wife had the tri tip cob salad and loved it. Also at our table we had a tri tip sandwich that was given rave reviews and said upon finishing it was fantastic but I ate the proof. We also had the mushroom burger at our table that disappeared quickly. A chicken cob salad was gone before I was able to ask how good it was. The chocolate milk shake was beautiful and delicious. The bloody mary was spot on with bacon and not to much spice. But I've got to say that a lot of good BBQ places really turn out some average coleslaw not these guys it was excellent, with bits of bacon and jalapeno. Absolutely perfect for Mothers Day! Seating outside in their beautiful garden with yard games was only dreamt about as we sat inside due to inclement Nevada weather. The building its self is rustic and quaint. Food was cooked perfect for our picky/allergy filled family. We initially called for reservations but got voicemail and a surprising call back immediately (without leaving a message) which was really nice since the other places in town had a difficult time figuring out their reservation schedule.
