It was truly a delight working with Alicia and Kerry for the year or so leading up to our wedding. We were specifically looking for a wedding planning team that understood our vision of having a wedding weekend event celebration that really indexed on bringing the community we love together. When I initially spoke with Kerry, more than a year and a half prior to our wedding, she guaranteed me that her team had experience with our venue. This was the sole basis for why we chose Blue Sky over other planners. Unfortunatelt, the planner assigned to our wedding did not have experience with our venue. This added stress to an already stressful time. My frustrations grew as the day approached and more and more of the vendors we spoke with said "usually the planner does this." There was a lack of attention to some important details on the day of that have marred my memory of the day. For instance, in our contract it indicated that the planner would recover my bouquet after the wedding for me. Instead it, along with the charm holding a poem and photo of my late father were thrown away. 5 stars for day of/day before 2 stars for planning services TL;DR: We worked with Chelsea at Blue Sky, and while she did a great job on the day before/day of work, we had mismatched expectations for what a "full service" wedding planner should do, and therefore we weren't thrilled overall. More details: We were referred to Blue Sky by a friend and opted for them after a wonderful conversation with Kerry, and we chose the full service package since 1) we were planning a Squaw wedding while living in SF, and 2) we have demanding jobs and wanted to outsource some of the stress and logistics. There were a few areas where Chelsea was great: - Strong design sense. She helped us understand tradeoffs in everything from chair choices to linens, and we were happy with how everything from the welcome party to the reception turned out. - Solid wedding vendor connections. While she didn't always provide multiple options, most times she gave us 3 options for each vendor, and most of them were good. We ended up thrilled with our DJ and Photographer. - On top of the day before and day of management. The day before the wedding, we realized we left our marriage license at home. Within 30 minutes, Chelsea had found a notary public who was willing to whip us up a new license that night, at her house. Amazing! On the day of, Chelsea and her assistants had everything running smoothly, just as we had hoped for. Where we broke down was the mismatched expectations for "full service". Based on our sales conversations and discussions with other couples, we expected that paying a premium for full service would get us 3 benefits: 1) proactive, detail-oriented project manager 2) design support 3) experienced answers to all our wedding questions. Blue Sky did pretty well on 2 and 3, but we were disappointed with 1. One of the reasons we went with the full service option was to have someone to "do the worrying for us," but we instead found that we had to be on top of each item. For instance, we expected that we'd be reminded of upcoming or missed deadlines and dependencies for locking down the desserts bakery, ordering bridesmaid dresses/groomsmen suits, or getting invites out on time. (We weren't.) We also wanted to understand the overall flow of when each decision was required, and the time-consuming dependencies that come with it, and to have proactive sharing of details (such as understanding that wedding invites have multiple dependencies, like printing and shipping time, the time required to figure out our registry, and the complexities in finalizing the rehearsal dinner/ ceremony invite lists). (That didn't happen either.) And finally, we expected to have someone who would make sure nothing was dropped - for instance, following up to make sure we had started wedding dress shopping or confirmed the DJ, reviewing the food and beverage order for errors, or making sure that housing was moving (e.g. that Squaw had booked a room for us). (We had to do all of that, mostly without help.) Chelsea missed some basic checks, like the fact that the food order had all the wrong menu items. We ended up having to follow up with her directly on items that were on her plate, too, rather than the other way around - she seemed to struggle to keep up with her email inbox and to-do list. Timelines were also difficult - since Chelsea works events most Saturdays and Sun-Mon is her weekend, and understandably doesn't check email during those times, we would often do a bunch of our to-do's on Fridays or Saturdays and not hear back until Weds or Thurs of the following week, causing nearly a full week delay in progress on tasks where we needed to coordinate with her. As a result, we spent a lot of our wedding planning time worried about missing things until they were too late, and while Chelsea was helpful in having a couple email and phone conversations to reset expectations when we raised our concerns, we can't give a 5 star rating since we feel like we expected one thing when we signed the contract, and got something else. At the end of the day, our biggest takeaway is that "full service" doesn't mean "full project management" - there is a lot of self-management through to-do lists, worksheets, etc., and not much proactive sharing of "here's what's next" and "here's all the dependencies" as we'd expected. If we could do it all again, we would either find a different company and confirm whether their full service would be the proactive, "we don't let anything slip through the cracks" type of project manager that we wanted, or simply do a "30 days before + day of" arrangement with Blue Sky and go into wedding planning knowing that we had to do the lion's share of the planning and groundwork ourselves. read more

We were uncertain about hiring a full time planner for our wedding reception, but it turned out to be the best decision we made throughout the entire process. Many of our guests commented that this was the most enjoyable wedding they had been to, none of which would have been possible without Aimee. My husband and I have very little event planning experience and really had no idea what we were getting into. Aimee guided us through the process, giving advice and suggestions while also making sure that the end result was reflecting what we wanted (which Aimee also helped us discover). My Fiancee and I live 4 hours from Lake Tahoe but just KNEW we had to have our wedding there! We knew it would be hard to do a destination wedding so we decided to get a coordinator. We met with 3 or 4 other big companies South Lake has to offer before we met Kerry at a small coffee shop... In the first 3 minutes Dirk and I KNEW she would be our wedding coordinator no matter what the cost! Kerry is THE NICEST person I think I have ever professionally worked with. She is extremely Patient (Which is great since I often times had freak out sessions), ORGANIZED (which was incredible because I often lost count of money or accidentally deleted important emails), and most importantly- She has SUCH WONDERFUL ideas! I went to Kerry with little to no direction other than a few things because I had not been to many weddings and did not really know anything about them... She put us in touch with vendors who were professional, reasonably priced, and all of which turned out to be perfect for our personalities (even down to our florist, chefs, photographers, DJ, Minister, and stationary creator who were all able to *connect* with us on a personal level making the entire process THAT much more meaningful)! She helped me with ideas when I had none, and gave WONDERFUL suggestions when I requested them. Kerry grew to own our trust as we would send her checks for thousands of dollars requesting they be disbursed among vendors. She made EVERYTHING so easy! Kerry helped to explain things in a way that helped me understand the processes. I worked nights (7p-7a) so she really helped to work around my schedule (and helped the vendors work with it too!) even if it meant sometimes just communicating by email. The day I got married in my white dress when I looked at what she had created around me...I looked at Kerry and said "I fu*king LOVE IT...I don't know how I could have done ANY of this without you". I had planned 95% of my wedding, but realized about 1 month out that there were several moving parts to the day itself, and that I probably needed some help. Little did I know how crucial Blue Sky Events' services would be! Clutch perks: Planning - - Kerry met with me (on her day off, no less) and went through my wedding step by step. This made me aware of any holes in my plans, and with her experience and expertise we were able to tailor the day to exactly what I had envisioned. - Kerry and Allison, her assistant, were available and extremely responsive for a solid 3 1/2 weeks up until my wedding. - They took care of hiring, paying, and negotiating with vendors. - They got me some great last-minute deals with vendors they work with frequently. - Kerry and Allison directed my rehearsal and had an itinerary ready for all the VIPs, which made everyone in my wedding party familiar and at ease with what would occur. Day of - - Kerry and Allison were on-time, professional, stoked for the day (even though I'm sure they've done this a thousand times), and very perceptive to my needs. - They made sure everyone in the wedding party got to where they needed to be and with all the things they needed to have. -When it started raining, they had a plan B all set up - I am SO thankful they were there to keep things in check and to direct people. - The ceremony was delayed by 30 minutes and they negotiated with the venue and all the vendors for us to extend the party - which was AMAZING. - Throughout the event, they were helpful and responsive when the room was too hot, I had a "hair emergency," favors needed to be displayed, set up our sparkler exit, and made sure all personal items were attended to after the reception was over. So I'm here to tell you that no matter how organized you are, no matter how on your game you are in planning, you need a coordinator, and Kerry is an awesome choice. Having her run the rehearsal was a godsend--I think if I'd had to wrangle our wedding party and parents and officiant, I may have just called the whole thing off (okay, maybe not, but there DEFINITELY would have been tears). With Kerry there to run the show, everything went smoothly and we stayed right on schedule, but her sweet personality and warm demeanor kept everyone upbeat and excited about the next day. On the day of, Kerry's presence allowed us to really enjoy our day. When you spend a year or more planning an event, it's really nice to be able to actually experience what you've put together. I felt like everything went off without a hitch--it wasn't until right before my husband and I left the wedding site (Kerry had left after checking in with us one last time only minutes before) and had to deal with a shuttle driver who had miscommunicated with her boss and thought our shuttle stopped running at 10pm when in fact it was supposed to run until 1am, that I realized exactly HOW glad I was we had hired Kerry. Our wedding hadn't gone smoothly--we just hadn't had to deal with any of the obnoxious little "situations" because Kerry had intercepted and dealt with them before we even knew they existed. A great wedding planner will seem like she's not very busy because she is friendly, in control and organized even in the face of crisis. Kerry is all of these things and we were very happy to have her there on our wedding day. Hiring her allowed us to actually participate in our wedding as if we were guests. She even saved us a piece of our wedding cake since she knew that we probably wouldn't have a chance to eat it (we didn't). Kerry was very positive and helpful through the stressful process of finding a new venue that would fit 175 people! We were able to find a new venue, but one that would require a lot more rentals and vendors. Blue Sky was great about letting me know about the additional rentals I should be aware of and suggestions of people to contact. About a month out from the wedding day they sent me a few very helpful forms to make sure I was on track for the day to go smoothly. Julia was there for me to go over everything and together we went over all the important information for the day. The last couple weeks before the wedding, though I have heard that they are stressful for the bride, were relatively relaxed because I had the comfort of knowing that we had coordinators that had everything under control. The wedding day was a dream! Kerry and Julia were there to set up all of our decorations in the morning and make sure the caterers, DJ, band, photographers, photobooth were all there ready to go. If anything went wrong I was not aware of it. Julia and Kerry were both there to keep things moving along and making sure that all the guests were having a great time. Many of my friends and family say it was the best wedding they have attended. Bottom line- they gave a Type-A kind of bride, the peace of mind to fully enjoy her wedding day and not be worried about the little details. So, I was a guy who never thought I would get married, something my wife & I shared. So, when we found each other and got engaged, we both had thoughts on what we might like, and agreed we should plan it together. However, as a couple who never thought they would ever get married, and planning a destination wedding in Lake Tahoe as a bonus, we knew going into it that we needed a wedding coordinator. Kerry Hawk and her team from BlueSky Events, was nothing short of AMAZING! First, her contract is simple and straightforward, a flat fee for her services depending on the level of service you want (we chose the full package) - unlike the other coordinators we spoke to who were very 'line item' - where they would charge per call or email, or would do this but not that. After signing, since we were in LA - Kerry instantly swung into action. Since we didn't know what we wanted per se, other than the wedding to be very 'Tahoe-esque' (read: outdoors and pretty), she patiently guided us through things we should consider helped us put pictures and words to our very vague vision. Next, she advised that we head up to do vendor searches and look for a venue. She smartly advised we head up early to get the pick of the vendors and venues. Then, she setup a packed but not stressful weekend with several options for venues, and at least two choices for every major vendor. Surprisingly to us, on our first (and only) trip, we found the venue, and not only did we choose her top pick for virtually every vendor, but the vendors she chose were nothing short of spectacular the day of. That visit alone made her fee worthwhile! Not to mention that we didn't have to keep going to visit, something the budget really couldn't accommodate. My wife only had to go up one additional time for hair / make-up trials which, once again was a smashing success. Then, over the next year and a half, she patiently guided us through a process where we had to balance a conservative budget (we were paying for it), but also wanted the wedding to be very personalized and 'us'. She helped us from everything to colors and linens choices, save the date and wedding invitation wordings, party favors, and wedding etiquette. She even helped us find a custom made Chuppah when all we could say to the ones that we were seeing were, 'something isn't quite right'. But you probably want to know about the day of right? It is the most important part after all. Now, even though it's traditional for the groom to say that it's a very low stressful day and he has nothing to do, that was the case but really because there was nothing to do - for my wife or me! The day was planned perfectly. The rehearsal the day prior was quick and efficient, and the timeline was worked out well in advance. We each got ready, the photographer and videographer met us at our respective locations, and then we got to the ceremony site (separately) - and all we had to do was get married. She effortlessly coordinated all the vendors, and NOT ONE item fell through the cracks! Not one! Every simple touch we asked for (and we had a few) was made and carried out, not only adding to how impressed we were with her, but which made the wedding 'us'. Were they necessary, no - were they appreciated and made the day that much more special? - Absolutely! Even something as stupid as making sure the venue served two bottles of Moscato d'Asti instead of champagne to our table (since we're not champagne people). She even made sure that when we got back to the reception hall after the ceremony and pictures, that there was a plate of appetizers just for us (since we wouldn't get to eat any during the cocktail hour), water, and then - wait for it - even made sure we got a drink from the bar! Full service with a bride and grooms needs in mind indeed! But if I had to really pick out one thing I will remember the most - was finding out later that once the ceremony was in the hands of the officiant, she didn't even see it. Why you ask? Well, we got married on a very upscale and expensive golf course and technically - we weren't allowed to stop golfers from riding through. Apparently, there was a bunch of very not-so-considerate golfers who were about to ride through. She single-handedly prevented that by simply standing at the edge of the service road that ran through the ceremony, and TALKED the angry golfers down. How? By asking about their wedding! By the end of the evening, my entire family (existing and new-in-laws) knew her by name and loved her. At the reception, multiple guests came up to me and not only commented on how beautiful the wedding was, but also took the time to mention Kerry (BY NAME!) and say how fantastic a job she did, how smoothly the wedding went, and how our wedding was the one and only wedding they'd all been too, where not one thing went wrong. Melissa and Kerry helped us with our wedding and they are outstanding! I have to say that we underestimated the work that goes into putting a wedding together but our wedding was so seamless and successful and fun- all because they paid close attention to detail and our requests. Our one complaint is that we found their planning pod to be useless and ineffective, in that the knot.com does a much better job streamlining everything, sending reminders and utilizing the address book as a way to set up seating etc. Some of the paperwork were also a bit too redundant, irrelevant to us and tedious for our liking, but those are minor compared to the job they did. They listened to the overall vision and although I know I can be quite intense and difficult, Kerry and Melissa were ALWAYS gracious and sweet. We live in New York and realized rather quickly that we can't plan a wedding in Tahoe without knowing anyone there. Seems to us that there's a bit of a monopoly in the wedding business there, but it's understandable, given that locals should help each other out. After Melissa went on maternity leave, Kerry did everything she can to make sure our wedding went smoothly and yet, you never really noticed her and her assistant (we forgot her name )...as if they were the puppet masters planning a successful puppet show and we were the puppets. Nonetheless, after the jitters of ceremony was done, we had a lot of fun at our wedding, which we hear is a rarity. And to that, we owe Blue Sky Events a big thank you :) read more

Chelsea and Lindsay from Blue Sky were my Month-of/day-off coordinators for my wedding in September in the Sierras. I mainly worked with Chelsea on the planning bits and she was phenomenal. It helped that she'd been to my venue quite a few times for other weddings and knew the owners son. She had no trouble trekking to the venue while it was snowing and was SO flexible morning of when someone in my bridal party didn't show up. She took my vision and made it a reality. I wish I could have seen them more working on the day of but they were like ninjas! Nothing went unnoticed, nothing went wrong. Lindsay was a smiling beacon on the day of, helping me in and out of the car with my dress and wrangling groomsmen. Blue Sky Events and Kerry Hawk are great! We had the pleasure to work with Kerry at a wedding earlier this summer. Everything about her work was professional and easy. Long before the wedding Kerry would call to discuss things she and the bride had discussed about the wedding. The weeks before the wedding Kerry started to send out the itinerary. When we discussed it we found that there could be some small adjustments that would help benefit the wedding and photos. She would immediately make the adjustments and get them out to all the vendors and the couple. By the day of the wedding we were all very prepared, and everything fell into place. Im sure Kerry was behind the scenes pulling the strings to make sure everything went off without a hitch, but from the vantage point of the bride and myself, everything happened easily and on time. That is a great testament to how much good work Kerry did. The wedding couple and myself enjoyed a very busy, yet easy going wedding. In the end everyone at the wedding had a great time, the bride and groom were on top of the world, and we got all of the photos we had hoped for. The bride and groom are now very happy with our work, and it is largely due to the great work Kerry with Blue Sky Events did before and during the wedding. I couldn't have done my wedding without Chelsea and Melissa!! From finding a wedding location to clean up, they were very patient with me and listened to all my whims and wishes. They really know their stuff. When I send them the pictures of items I want, they right away know which vendor to contact. Chelsea and Melissa also has a great communication skill. I always know when they will be office and when they will not. If they are in the office, I get a response usually within a couple hours. I forgot to pack a couple of personal items after the wedding. Chelsea found them while cleaning up and she mailed it to me. We planned our wedding in Lake Tahoe from across the country and while we could do a lot of the research and emailing ourselves, having someone local was invaluable. We didn't have the budget to have someone plan all the details of the wedding, but Blue Sky Events let us choose a plan where we could have a few hours with Chelsea before the wedding to review our vendor choices, have her create a detailed itinerary for the wedding day, and also be physically present the day-of to meet the vendors and make sure things went smoothly. Having someone local review our vendors and make suggestions for people to contact gave us confidence that we weren't missing any red flags and having someone there to orchestrate the day meant that our friends and family could fully enjoy the wedding. Kerry Hawk from Blue Sky events was our wedding planner for a Tahoe wedding in the summer of 2014. We were departing from some wedding traditions and were concerned about a wedding planner having a hard time doing non traditional things. Kerry was the opposite... she was expert at finding ways to make the non traditional things happen... and in the end we realized that everyone departs from tradition in some ways and Kerry is expert at facilitating it. Kerry was very good at listening too us and interpreting what we were looking for. She is very good at giving gentle feedback when we had silly ideas that needed to be modified. She was extremely diplomatic in dealing with opinionated family members in a way that took heat off of us. She was never flustered, she exuded calm at all times. She went the EXTRA mile. We had an order of hundreds of drinking jars not show up so Kerry went out and bought mason jars at a craft store in South Lake Tahoe before coming up to coordinate our wedding. Amazing. I can't imagine a better wedding planner. Our wedding would not have been as smooth without someone as expert as Kerry.
