If I could give this place zero stars I would. I've been going to Costco almost all my life. My parents are executive members. That's how much my family shops at Costco. (Costco only allows 2 members per household.) With that said, when I visited this Costco for the first time, I used my mother's Costco card. I was able to enter the store, shop, and purchase my items. No problem. When I returned for a second time, a rude cashier lady said I couldn't purchase my items because I wasn't the member on the card. She calls over the supervisor, a very unhelpful "young" man who could only keep repeating that it was policy and that he couldn't do anything, but that I could speak to the manager if I wanted to. I was then asked by the frustrated cashier lady to step to the side because I was "holding up the line". The second lady taking care of unloading and reloading the shopping carts had the nerve to snicker and whisper to the cashier lady "they had two carts!" I can hear you! Thanks for caring. Rude much? Who was inconvenienced here? Me or you? I just spent a good hour shopping! This was a waste of my time!
While we pushed our heavy carts to the customer service area, I made sure the supervisor understood my situation. I was allowed to shop there once before. Same card. No problem. Why is it a problem now? This man had the nerve to tell me "just sign up for the membership, it's only $55 dollars." I wish I could have told him, "if it's only $55, why don't you pay for it then?" Then he says, "bring your mom next time." What the heck? What do you want me to do? Go pick her up so she can show her face so you'd let me check out? So this is what it comes down to, Costco? Trying to swindle people into signing up for a yearly membership? You would rather put 2 cartfull of items back and lose money and a valued customer then let me buy my items just because I wasn't my mom? We live in the same household. The food is going to the same place. Costco will be getting their money just the same. What is the difference if my mother was present or not? And you only allow 2 members per household! My mom has one and my dad has one! I really don't get it. This would only hurt your business!
The customer service was what made the difference here. If I wasn't made to feel like I was a burden, that I was inconveniencing the staff having to put two shopping carts full of items back, or because I was holding up the line, then I would have considered a membership of my own if only the staff were accommodating and apologetic for what had happened. I was made to stand there like an idiot looking at the supervisor and manager while they looked at their feet or pretended to be busy, refusing to make eye contact, and hoping I would just leave already.
Vicky, the manager did nothing but stand there trying to look invisible. Thanks for pretending like we didn't come to customer service to speak to you. Why am I even told to speak to you by your unhelpful supervisor if you yourself couldn't help me? Such a waste of my time. I wish the big bosses of Costco could read this and see what's going on at Hackensack Costco. Your staff is unprofessional, rude, and unhelpful all around. Next time, tell people at the door "Oh, your face doesn't match this photo. You won't be able to check out items unless the member who owns this card is present." I just wasted my time! Also, don't send people mixed messages by letting people check out one day and not the next. That's the biggest crock of shit ever. Angry doesn't even cut it. Never shopping at Costco again. I'm off to BJs! read more
