Instead health insurance was billed with a medical exam when its quite obvious what caused it: the smoke. I didn't need a doctor to tell me that. The prescription the doctor gave was for over the counter re-wetting drops. The purpose of my visit was an annual eye exam, not to diagnose why my eyes were partially red. It's fairly obvious why. I'm walking through in one of the most polluted cities in the world on the way to the optometrist. The doctor should have said "Wildfire smoke is irritating your eyes. Come back next week or when the smoke clears for an exam." This is how my old eye doctor would have handled this and he operated until retirement, had a great practice, was passionate about optometry. What do I get here? A business that operates like it's run by private equity. They did a bait and switch. Instead of what I expected to pay for an eye exam, they billed a more expensive health insurance co-pay. This seems more like a money making strategy and insurance fraud than looking out for my well-being. When I called for clarification the woman I spoke with was not helpful and she wouldn't reverse the health insurance claim. I was honestly frustrated when I found out there was no recourse and the woman I spoke with was not understanding. She didn't treat me as a person seeking health care, more like a customer that needs to go away. My Optic turned a $10 eye exam into a $60 health insurance co-pay on a whim. I didn't go in looking for help with my eye dryness due to wildfire smoke. I wanted an annual eye exam. I didn't ask for the services they billed me. The doctor didn't make it clear what was going on with billing in the exam room, didn't give me a choice. Had I been given the choice I would have opted out and come back later for an annual eye exam. I looked into this more and on the chart it says the doctor diagnosed me with "eye dryness due to excessive use of contact lenses." I hadn't worn contact lenses in weeks not did I wear any into the appointment. The woman threatened to charge me the full amount for the visit instead of charging health insurance as a possible conclusion. I think they are committing insurance fraud. This experience left me wanting to dispute the claim and still needing an eye exam, questioning if I should even go to eye doctors if the lot of them are going to practice business this way. They need to make it really clear they can turn your eye exam into a medical exam and give you the opportunity to deny or accept. Instead, it's confusing and you end up spending more money than you intended. When I was asking why the insurance needed to be billed, I felt pushed around. No one was explaining anything properly. This place used to have good customer service and good doctors. Now I'm not so sure.

The quality of the patient education was exceptional, and I really felt heard and seen by my provider (pun intended). Parking is easy on the adjacent streets and it was easy to make an appointment online. Pricing was described in full transparency, and I was able to refuse additional services that didn't feel necessary or applicable to me. I was able to use my vision insurance very easily too. One of the more reputable and quality places to have your typical eye exam experiences. Make sure you check it out soon!

The ladies are super nice. The lenses they use are out of this world. I don't know how to describe it, but there is a marked difference from the lenses my eye doctor place used on my last pair. Prior to the appointment, she was asked about medical insurance, which caused confusion, as this was an annual routine eye appointment. I called the office seeking clarification, but Dylan could not adequately explain why the visit was billed as medical. I was told the office manager, Chrissy, would call my wife the next day, but no call was made. When I followed up that afternoon, Chrissy stated, "I had no intention of calling or apologizing because I was too busy doing other things and credentialling another doctor." Chrissy had time to listen to the recordings of my wife making the initial appointment and my conversation with Dylan, talk to the front desk staff, talk to the examining Optometrist, and review the billing for the visit, all prior to our phone conversation. During our conversation, Chrissy fabricated that my wife "came in concerned about her cataracts and eyelids." This is flatly untrue. Rather than addressing our concerns, she focused on my tone and accused me of being rude and condescending. She also minimized our concerns by stating that, "the medical portion would likely be covered and that we would not receive a bill." We have still not received a clear explanation as to why a routine vision exam became a medical exam. During the exam, the doctor confirmed my wife's existing cataracts were unchanged and briefly discussed drooping eyelids, which my wife declined to pursue treatment for. At no point was she informed that the exam was being converted to a medical visit. My wife has been a patient at Cascade Eye for years, and her cataracts previously documented during routine exams, without the visits being billed medically. We feel it was disingenuous that she was not informed of the change in billing status and was asked by receptionist Kathy to sign treatment consent forms after the exam. My wife has since called the office and requested an itemized bill from Dylan. The staff's poor communication, inability to answer billing questions, and dismissive response to our concerns caused unnecessary confusion and stress. Instead of receiving an explanation or apology, we encountered contentiousness and contradictory information, including statements that previous visits were not billed medically because a prior doctor had "shoddy paperwork.". We invite the clinic owner to listen to the conversations I had with his staff on August 11th & 12th. In particular, the office manager completely failed to represent Cascade Eye in a professional manner, and instead deflected blame onto the front desk staff, previous doctors, my wife, and myself. This was an awful patient & family experience filled with unclear, dishonest staff communication and misleading billing.
