It's amazing how the staff and clientele at each Costco location can vary so much.
In Everett, people literally shop in their pajamas and bedroom slippers. It's soooooo cozy! If you show up in sweat pants and a t-shirt, you are overdressed. Staff is generally nice, and parking is o.k. most of the time, but you get a feeling that you should keep an eye on your purse the entire time before someone else helps themselves to it.
Woodinville is dreamy. It's less busy, the parking lot is big, with nice spacious spots, lots crosswalks, and this location has lots of the Woodinville wines, and everything is always in stock when I need it. They even have an express lane if you've just popped in for a pie.
Introducing Shoreline Costco: The parking lot is a shark pool. You are lucky to find a spot within a two block radius, and God forbid you go there on a weekend because you might get plowed over before you even get a chance to shop. The inside isn't much better. People dart here and there, slam into you and don't say "excuse me", the lines are backed up so far that if you were hoping to buy anything in the health and beauty department, you are out of luck unless you cross a barricade three people deep. I went there today for 5 items, and they were out of 3 of them.
Then, there's the staff.... The guy who was sampling out the flavored waters shouted, "Lemon-lime!", "Blackberry!", "It's really good!", over and over again like a broken record. Even as I stood in front of him asking questions, he still shouted it out in my face. Remember in the movie "Naked Gun" where the officer was trying to get gawking tourists to leave the scene of a murder? They stood 2 feet in front of his megaphone as he yelled, "Please disperse, there is nothing to see here!" ....Well, that's how I felt.
Then there was Stacy, the checker, who not once made eye contact with me, and who pulled my shopping cart towards him at the same time that me and my 4th month along pregnant belly were leaning over into it to grab items to unload. It caught me off guard and snagged my shirt, and I even blurted out, "Ouch!" as it came out from under me....and I don't even think he noticed. He then, still having not looked in my direction once yet, held out his hand for my Costco card. I thought about putting something wet and cold in his hand instead, you know, just to surprise him the way he surprised me, but two wrongs don't make a right, do they?
So, apparently, I'm supposed to know that I don't have to wait for them to finish ringing up my stuff because Stacy curtly asked me, "What are you waiting for??"... Um....o.k...so A) Are you talking to me?...because you STILL haven't looked at me. B) I'm waiting for you to give me my card back and C) Where the hell am I??? Am I being punked??
A stranger approached me in the parking lot and said, "Remind me never to come here on a weekend again. Everyone is in such a bad mood!"... Glad it wasn't just me.
So, yes, it's a Costco.....but it's certainly not the one I'll be returning to again. Good grief! read more
