This is a solid Costco in the middle of San Jose. Sure, it doesn't have a gas station but it's a nice Costco overall. Definitely a good place to stop up on food and the food court items. There's no point in writing this review, except to memorialize an experience and perhaps to entertain some readers about the human condition. The Costco (Almaden Tire Center). June 27, 2026, 3PM I, a Black male, have been standing in line patiently awaiting the chance to purchase a battery. Well dressed, and even offering to allow a lady to go ahead of me. Courtesy counts. At the cash register and addressing the Costco associate with a friendly salutation and asking how he's doing, I crisply point to, and name the model number of a specific battery I needed. He tells me that's not the right battery while pulling the display price tag -- the tag was in the wrong place. As he did that, I noticed that 3 batteries on that rack were used with corrosion and dirt on the terminals. He took me to a second rack, where I select a battery. Understand: I arrived with the specific battery type needed researched in advance, and I had a credit card in hand ready to tap and pay. At the point of sale, he provides a price 20% higher than the tagged price. He pulls the tag. It too was in the wrong place. I'm ready to pay the higher price and as we were concluding the transaction, a blonde hair middle-age guy walks past the line of people that extended to the door, lands at the cash register I was at, and starts talking to my order-taker. He ignores me and talks right over me. The Costco associate pivots from taking my money, ignores me and instantaneously responds to this privileged guy. They get into an extended conversation. No utterance of "excuse me," or any acknowledgement at all from the privileged guy or the Costco associate. It gets worse. The Costco guy then takes Mr. Privilege to the back and does not come back for at least 5 minutes. Another Costco associate eventually walks in and asks what I need. I remarked to him -- calmly -- what had just happened and that it was rude. This Costco associate, in a "I don't give a damn" tone of voice asks what I need. He mentions the price of this battery is higher than what was marked. As he is telling me this, the original Costco guy who abandoned the cash register for the line jumper returns. I mentioned -- calmly -- that I thought it was rude the way that interruption happened. He does not say a word. He just stared at me, then turned away. I saw contempt in his eyes. Unbelievably, the privileged guy walks back in right past the people standing in line, interrupting again(!) as we're finishing the sale. It was then that I turned around and addressed him. This could have resulted in a physical confrontation, but I managed it to avoid escalation. As other Yelpers have noted, the Almaden administrative staff did not answer the phone each of the multiple times when I called to report the incident. Used batteries on the shelves and sloppy merchandising aside, Costco -- or any customer-facing person should have never allowed some jerk who blatantly jumps a line to be served. At minimum, the associate should have at least acknowledged the disrespect. "Excuse me", might be good words to use in such a scenario. Based on the look of contempt the first associate gave me and the snide remark by the second associate (they were both mechanics working the cash registers) I wouldn't take any of my cars there. It's one thing to hate the job you're in, but your professionalism should be something that stays with you no matter where you find yourself. read more

I was astounded by the poor customer service I experienced yesterday at the Returns counter. One staff person was standing at their register. A couple clerks were helping other customers, one was available. I went up to her to conduct my business. She was in the midst of texting and turned her back on me and walked away to finish her personal communication rather than performing her job duties. I was flabbergasted! She really had her priorities correct! I don't understand why employers allow their employees to have their cellphones on their persons during work hours. Some employees are too irresponsible and need to be treated like children. Then again, where's management? Who's monitoring these people that represent their company so poorly? Almaden: 131,848 ft² Coleman/SJC: 134,385 ft² Average Costco size per Google: 146,000 ft² Great Oaks: 147,417 ft² Senter Rd: 153,892 ft² The Ugly: *Unlike most Costcos, this one doesn't have its very own shopping center but shares its space with a myriad of stores at one of the largest plazas in the South Bay. You see where I'm going with this right? Costco parking lots are bad enough on their own, but having to share it with all these other stores?! Fuhghefaboutit! Arrived at Costco today before they opened at 9:00am. There were a lot of people already there, all lined up. Just before they opened, an employee announced that today they were enforcing their 9:00am shopping time for executive members only. All other memberships have to come back at 10:00am. Luckily I have an executive membership. Several people had to leave because of this new rule. Even with the new rule, it was still crazy busy inside. Right after you enter and they scan your membership card, they had muffins, cookies and bottles of water for the executive members. I thought that was very nice. The meat department was lacking today. They hadn't put out all the beef. So I had to wait until they stocked the meat fridge. Prices on meat have sure gone up. But still think, price wise, Costco is your best bet. read more

I like this Costco it's super close to my home, the only bad part is the parking lot since it is a big shopping center it gets super busy. They always have great deals and prices. Not the best Costco I've been to. I know parking at Costco can be hectic but this location was much worse than I'm used to. A total hassle just getting in and out of the lot. This is definitely my go to Costco based on proximity and variety of items. It's always crowded, but sometimes going early does help. The staff are always friendly and nice. I used to love checking out the wine department while shopping here. Went last week and the place looked like a gang came in and stole half the merchandise. No plexiglass lock up to display high end wines, many empty display crates. Just went in today and they removed half of the department! Crazy, especially at this time of the year. I went to Costco today to get my yearly ham for thanksgiving. As I'm leaving where they check receipts she's already being rude but I don't care just check my receipt and I'll leave. She grabs both receipts from my hand and snatches them. She immediately said in a strong tone, "Can you grab it?" I was shocked at how she said it, so I didn't take it. She couldn't find an appointment to see the doctor asap that time and since she had so much pain and at the same time I was sick I couldn't take her to the emergency room. Do not use their bakery for custom cakes. The process is poorly designed. Placed my Costco cake order via paper on a Wednesday for a Saturday cake pickup. All I needed was a name on the cake and a teddy bear, really nothing crazy. They called Saturday morning saying they cannot do the flavor of cake (vanilla) because the cake decorator called out sick. Understandable I guess, however I need my cake? So they said they cannot call and ask another Costco to do it. They said they could. Delicious soft serve! I've been to this Costco many times over the years and I'm happy to say it's still in pretty good shape. It's not as nice as the new San Jose Costco Business Center but it has what I need which is all that matters. At this location the food court is located outside. I'm glad to say that the prices for food have stayed the same despite COVID and inflation. I ordered the hot dog and fudge sundae. The hot dog was good (as always). Love that the bun is soft, warm, moist, and has sesame seeds. The fudge sundae, on the other hand, was amazing!! I ordered my sundae with extra fudge and it was YUMMY! Although, I wish the fudge was gooey and thick, I thought that the fudge was still good. Honestly, you can't go wrong with a day spent at Costco! When I was looking for more help later, she was talking and laughing while sorting boxes. In the end, we got the diapers. Another Mark thanked us for waiting and handed us the box.
