My daughter tells me that this it the busiest Costco in the US! I had to see for myself. There is about a 20 minute wait for a parking space. Like a game of musical chairs, we circle until someone vacates a spot. Then, there is a wait for carts, unless you grab one from an exiting customer. Inside the aisles are wide (thankfully). The store itself didn't seem larger that other Costcos. For the most part, the store footprint is the same. They offer meat, clothing, baked goods, hearing aids and hot dogs for $1.50 (maybe the best deal on the island). The Costcos in Hawaii also offer fresh poke, fresh sushi and a variety of Hawaii produced vegetables, fruits, fish and coffee. Tourists can even pick up inexpensive Hawaiian shirts and chocolates. We picked up groceries for the week....milk, eggs, fruit, salad mix, the usual. Check out was actually pretty quick. Every lane was open and the clerks move like poetry in motion. Finally, the line to leave the store was 25 carts deep. Argggg! Slowly the line moved. Finally out! Wow! I didn't take photos. I was too overwhelmed. read more

The one thing consistent and constant, about this Costco is that they definitely know how to churn out retail dollars quickly. It's certainly not surprising for the highest grossing, busiest Costco location in the world. What is surprising is just how quickly the checkout process can be, even with the huge number of people in line with the huge carts and dollies. The cashiers and assistants have the process down to a science, and no matter how long the line is, you're typically out in less than 15 minutes. Finding everything you need is always tricky, due to their practice of constantly moving items, and not having aisle numbers. If you can find an employee tho, they're very knowledgeable, and always happy to let you know if a specific item is in stock, and even help you locate it in the maze. Of course, you almost never leave with just the items you actually came in for. It's funny (or maddening) that on this trip, I had budgeted to buy $200 worth of durable food items to donate to the Hawaii Foodbank. Along the way I picked up just a couple off items for myself, and when I checked out, the total was $300. Typical, I guess. Once you're done, remembering where you parked (that's a whole other story) is another thing, but at least you're done. No wonder I usually only come here for the gas, lol. read more

This Costco location is crazy busy but the prices are good and I just discovered the caramel churro sundae at the food court, which now makes the busy-ness of this location worth the while. The sundae has a huge portion of soft serve, a generous amount of caramel, and little churro pieces! Yum. Pair it with a giant slice of pizza and you have a huge, filling lunch for not much cash. The lines at the food court move pretty quickly and the workers seem to have it down to a science, getting your food to you promptly. There's nowhere really to sit but there's a few columns nearby that you can perch on. Get yourself some lunch, THEN go inside to get your stuff. You might not pick up as many impulse buys if you're stuffed full of pizza. Just saying. read more

11/22/25 Just another quick update since Costco changed their hours for Executive members and Gold Star members... This last time I went (11/14/25) during the 9am Executive hours they now have a couple of security guards making sure only the black card members are going in. Around 845am an employee comes out with a handheld scanner and scans the membership cards of everyone in line. If you don't have the executive card, that employee tells the security person to make sure the non-executive member doesn't go in. The other thing I noticed was they lined up all the rows of shopping carts around the entrance so line cutters can't try to weasel their way in. This Iwilei Costco definitely has the most organized line of any Costco I've been to. The early shoppers are so used to having 2 lines to go in that many of the regulars self police the cutters. Now that the carts strategically create a barrier, that's mostly taken care of. read more

This Costco runs like a well-oiled machine. The staff are friendly, efficient, and keep things moving even when the parking lot is packed. Inside, it's classic Costco -- great deals, fresh produce, and a wide selection of local favorites you won't find on the mainland. There's a entire section of Macadamia nuts. I really appreciate the store was stocked nicely. From poke and fresh fish to Hawaiian snacks and island-style baked goods, there's always something that reminds you you're in Hawai'i. Things are different from when I lived on the island back in the 80's. No waiting for things to be shipped over.It's all here. :) The only drawback is parking -- it can get chaotic, so plan ahead or go early. But, the same problem persists; too many FAKE employees, alot of shoplifting involved, and poor quality prepared food from this location...one of them being all the Costco Cafe food & beverages. I don't care what anyone says, I love coming to this Costco! It's the best place for me to get my candies and sweetbread to take home with me. The workers are all pretty chill and funny! I think what the problem is, are the customers. They all seem to be in this crazy rush to get everything. I wandered around comparing prices to what is on the mainland. The chicken is still $4.99, which is still a great deal! They also have Hawaiian shirts! For me, this is a fun location to come to. My opinion is to keep the food area cleaner especially the self service drink area and the counter that has the commodities of mustard, relish and ketchup! The day we went there there's a long queue therefore the self service stock of commodities were running out! May I ask who is reasonable to refill it? There's two commodities boxes situated side to side but when I went to get my hotdog to be decorated hardly any one of the mustard was coming out but instead of air splashing out almost ruining my blouse! Those sauces airing out while pushing it will not erase the splash on our shirts! (Please consider this point of view)! If one spill their sauces while eating it's our responsibility but otherwise it's the store manager that should coordinate staff to check their inventory for their food court! The relish and ketchup was okay stocked up with ease to place on our hotdog. We've been to Costco in Japan where the food court is situated inside of the store very organized to park our shopping cart and very clean! Why indoors instead of outdoors I believe Costco made it for the convenience of the consumers...plus its locale is on the industrial area. The whole building of the parking and shop is built very well by floors very organized! Food court not as large but people eating will share seats that are opened...we politely ask if it is alright..to share seating tables. Iwilei location is supposedly the highest profit center in the nation. I expect more from Costco. Management might want to review below: #1: They stock the products so high that you cannot see the price. For short folks, ask someone to grab the item for you. It's stacked way too high for most local people height. #2. I notice the labels are often missing so who knows the price of the item. Only recently have I experienced this. I've brought it up to the supervisors at Costco, but it doesn't seem like things have improved. #3. Items are often moved around the store so you have to hunt hard for these items. One day it's located in a certain aisle and the next time you go there, the item is nowhere to be found. Perhaps a marketing strategy to inspire you to buy unnecessary or unplanned items while hunting? #4. Sometimes I need help loading heavy items into my vehicle. But the checkout folks take forever locating staff to help you. Leanne is really helpful, but most of the others forget that you're still there waiting. I waited a long time for Mary to help me load my car. She was sweet, but heavy lifting is obviously not what she does regularly so I feel Costco needs to assign more appropriate employees to do this. There is a risk for work-related injuries. I also notice that the employees in the parking lot avoid calls to assist customers to load heavy items. Unless management improves the shopping experience at the Iwilei location, I will plan to shop at Hawaii Kai or other Costco locations instead. read more

You haven't experienced Costco Hawai'i if you haven't been to this downtown location!!! Peak hours will be crazy, traffic jam in the parking lot & inside the store, with carts at almost gridlock. With that being said, I still love this location and will still give it 5/5. Why? Friendly customer service, a very aloha-type of vibes all around. Don't want to be social? No problem, they have self check out kiosks. Most locals know to flip their product bar-code side up while waiting in line and to use the scanning gun (as opposed to scanning each item one by one through the big machine) which makes the lines go by quickly. Items are mostly stocked and they have so many Hawaiian souvenirs products (including aloha shirts) for you to pick from. Prices are slightly higher than the mainland but hey, these prices are still so good compared to the stores outside. Pro tip, come on a weekday around 8pm and you don't have to fight or struggle. Plus side is that the sun is down which also brings down the temperature of humans, get my drift? read more

Went to the warehouse after filling up the gas tank, and almost gave up after looking for parking. If you're able, the parking outskirts might have an open space, and you'll get your steps in! Samples were popular as usual, and I texted family to save them a trip if they needed anything. New products with added health benefits always catch my eye, and yes, I grabbed the turmeric and ginger immunity health shots after a taste test. (I'd save at least $.50/shot compared to getting them elsewhere.) They'll be closed on the 4th, and the cashiers were so glad to have a holiday to enjoy. Super great service;)! A nightmare. No matter what time of day you go, it's slammed. Pro tip: if you park too far, your cart literally locks up (auto-brakes) once you cross certain parts of the lot which can be a nuisance. One thing I want to point out for improvement is their chicken salad sold for $6.99 plus tax. That needs quality control, today I got one , after getting to my car I found the cover is loose doesn't fit the box, chicken was 1/3 less than the one I got prior, not sure if they ran out of chicken but try to push one more plate and that needs improvements, don't short change your customers. Also they can run out of salad in mid day, which is not right. The chicken bake was not even warm but I believed it was made same day. The managers are getting big bonuses should make sure staff in the food department do their job properly. Because it sometimes ran out of ice and soft drinks and that failed your QC program. Costco is Costco, I am grateful for the good prices and good options for food! The thing about this specific one is the parking and constant road construction, makes it soooo difficult to shop and I dread coming to this one. There are three others on the island I would rather hit up simply because of this reason. Don't make the mistake of parking in the wrong spots, Costco's are double lined and if you park in the Dole Cannery by accident a few things will happen. One, you'll most likely get ticketed and two, if you push your Costco cart over to your car it will lock up because it's out of bounds! It's a mess. There is constant construction around here too and I just feel like my car gets beat up, honestly you're better off going to Hawaii Kai. The line for gas is always busy but it is super nice that they have three gas stations per column so it goes quickly. Besides the actual location, Costco's are always great! I love the selection of "Hawaii-esque" clothes and food and fun. If you are able to find a spot to park, go get yourself some sunscreen and beach chairs, sushi and chocolate covered mac nuts, and a nice aloha crisp button up! Aloha! TIPS & TRICKS: * Sometimes it's worth it just to get dropped off at the front and have your driver loop if you know you'll be fast. If you want to peruse and spend some time shopping, you can get lucky with parking on the north side of the lot. * Food court is always overflowing, it's outside too so just watch for birds swooping overhead.
