I'll admit, my mom (who lives in NJ) has a membership and I have her other card, so I don't pay anything for the wonderful benefits of Costco. But I sure do loves it! Some of my favorite items are the trail mix (it has M&M's!), whole wheat ravioli, huge logs of mozzerella cheese for $5, giant box of Kashi goLean Crunch, and the bath/beauty products. . . I'm still using cotton balls from a package I bought a YEAR AGO! Girls, be sure to check out the makeup aisle- they stock random items at decent prices-- like Lancome Absolue (the single best moisturizer ever) at about 30% off. I also love the giant tubs of body wash and assorted meds, vitamins, etc. But my absolute number one favorite thing about Coscto is the frozen yogurt. $1.25 for a HUGE cup, it's creamy and delicious- and low fat! Heeeelllllll yeah. And of course, who can pass up a $3000 plasma HDTV? Not I, that's for sure. read more

I don't like places like this. Too big and too crowded, no space, i freak out and curl up in the corner until my ol lady tells me she's done. With that said, I guess you can save money. I drink a ton of generic booze so 8500 aspirin seems like a good thing. Their clothes don't interest me...but then again I don't like to buy clothes. I saw a couple of dudes shop for undies together while here, I thought it was cute. TV's might be a good deal, I don't know it's really good for Mexican family's looking to score free food samples for lunch. Not good for neurotic people like me...... read more

I switched my tires from summer to winter and will not do it again in this particular location. They told me that they balanced my tires, but they didn't. I went to a pro tire shop to check on the job that was performed by Costco crew, and all tires were well off balance! After the change I noticed that my steering wheel was shaking. I would not recommend them. read more

The three star rating (I wish I could do 3.5) is relative to other Costcos and shopping clubs, not bulk shopping in general (4.5 stars). Bulk shopping may lack the variety, but the prices and quality of everything is much better. I highly recommend the Executive membership, the rebate minimum is the difference between the memberships. THIS Costco is much smaller than all the others I've visited, lacks the selection, the very important GAS STATION, and the lines are RIDICULOUS. It seems that once I find an item I REALLY like, they discontinue it and replace it with their generic brand. But the bakery, ahh the bakery! Whether it's special order or off the shelf - it is wonderful. Our daughter's birthday cake is a living legend in our family! It always looks too sweet, but all I have to say is that it's the same cake as last year then the race for the cake begins! Kids and adults alike are ready to cause bodily harm to others for another slice. The vanilla cheesecake mousse filling is the perfect balance with a chocolate cake and chocolate buttercream frosting. read more

I love you Costco. But I hate you Clybourn location! Maybe because this is the only Costco in the city, but I've never seen such crazy and aggressive people. Lines: Lines here are ridiculous compared to the ones in the suburbs (Touhy, Northbrook, & Vernon Hills). Sometimes they wrap around the aisles (Hint: Sundays). Parking: WATCH OUT NOW! Beware when you are finding a parking spot, you will have to look for one for 20 minutes. AND when you are walking out of Costco to your car, people in their cars are following you to your spot. Not everything is bad about Costco, I really do love the quality of Costco and their return policy. Also their free samples are bomb too. It's just that this location sucks. Hint: Don't come here on the weekends! read more

It's Costco so clearly it has great products. My one complaint about this Costco is that a lot of the people who work here are rude. They need a class in customer service. I've never once been greeted at check out with a smile. Like I said the merchandise is great, but don't expect a warm welcome. read more

Gotta love the free sample lunch! What a great place to save money even if you don't have a large family. You can eat lunch or dinner here for under $4.00, but most likely you'll spend $2.50 on a hot dog and drink. If you can make it through the aggressive GIANT shopping cart driving, be ready to bump some elbows. This store is very intense and everyone is out for themselves so don't go in for a quiet stroll for deals and have a plan of action. Check with your place of business and see if your company will spot you a business membership free or at a deal. read more

I grew up on Costco while I lived on the West Coast, and all I can tell you is that this one is pretty comprable to ones out west. There are a few more disgruntled people at the Chicago location, but overall it is very good. You have to have a membership, so don't even try to go shopping here without one. I really think it weeds out the bad people... it's very nice. They also have an excellent indoor cafeteria for when you're done with shopping... check it out. It you need 400 tubes of toothpaste , this is the place to do it. read more

Yes, there's a Costco within five minutes of my home, but does it have to be utterly packed with people 24/7? Yuck. To top it off, they recently put in a Costco gas station in a parking lot that was already stretched to the max and difficult to find a spot in. Boo! I love Costco, but that place had me going at odd hours just so I could get in and out in a reasonable amount of time. One thing I will say though is the woman at the exit with the clown eyebrows draws a mean smiley face. read more

I'd like to give them at least three stars because their prices on some items are so good, but I can only manage two stars because the store is so inconsistent on what they carry! I mean, one week you buy something...the next week, it is no longer an item they carry! Drives me crazy!! Not that Sam's Club is much better. They do the same thing. Is it the curse of wholesale clubs? I don't know, but I hate making a trek to a store like this, only to find that the item you are looking for is no longer carried. I can understand not being able to find "seasonal" items, but even basic items are often not carried on a regular basis...if I am ranting, well it is due to frustration...esp after dealing with those crazed housewives who spiral out of control at the Costco store...only to not be able to locate my items!! read more

This review is only for the Tire Installation service. I ordered and pre paid for 4 new tires on the Costco web site and the Clybourn location called 2 days later to let me know they received them. They don't take appointments so you just show up. I walked in today around noon expecting to run into the folks who "drop off their car at lunch" but the place was empty. I guess the rain deterred the working folk. (Good, let us unemployed folks schlep around in the rain and take advantage of no waiting!) They installed my tires and I was out of there in 45 minutes. They even asked me to bring the car back after driving it 25 miles so they can check if the lug nuts need further tightening. Very easy transaction. I would go back. read more

I love Costco and I'm a huge customer! But coming from Seattle to Chicago (where Costco started) and going to the headquarters in Issaquah on a weekly basis, I was disappointed with the service in Chicago. First, I love that this Costco because it is less crowded then the ones that I'm used to going to. The service isn't all or friendly- I had to box up my own stuff at time of check out. Is that a Seattle thing? This Costco is nicely laid out and easy to find products that I need. They have different items that I haven't seen at Costco before, but the most impressive thing is the Costco size of alcohol you can buy. I won't be going to Costco as much, since we have downsized from a large house to a small city apartment. But I truly love Costco and will still be a huge fan. read more

i need more card carrying friends. i don't have a membership & as a single person i wouldnt get enough use out of it to warrant getting one, but i love the place! unfortunately, i'm not in touch with my previous costco member friend anymore so i haven't been there in awhile. my favorites include: ridiculously cheap bottles of vanilla extract (the real stuff) for $6.00 giant bags of pecans for $9 huge jars of marinated artichoke hearts for like $7 almond butter for $6.50 frozen vegan burgers - the kind made with lots of shredded veggies big jugs of captain morgans rum for $20 these deals are so good i've considered lurking in the parking lot and approaching total strangers to ask if i can be their guest... read more

This is about CostCo Optical. While the prices are cheap but so as the frames. I had such a terrible time with their frames, had to return one and am super unhappy with the replaced one. I think name brand manufacturers supply cheaper and lower quality frames to CostCo. My face is not deformed, and I've never had such a bad fit with frames. They are either too heavy, too tight, too something rubbing everywhere, cannot be adjusted, somehow dig into my nose just on one side (could not be fixed), gave me massive headaches. Just terrible. I went there numerous times for adjustments, still have bad fit pair. read more

Typical costco. Overcrowded, crappy hours, parking sucks. But I can buy Hendricks Gin for cheap, get ground turkey for 1/4 the price of the grocery store, and stock up on TP and other essentials, and that's the reason to go to the store in the first place. You know it's going to be packed with soccer moms buying 600 dollars worth of food for their teenage boys, convenience store owners buying things in bulk to sell in individual packages in their stores etc. But you go anyway because it's cheap, and the selection is good. read more

I've been a member for a while now, and I have to say - Costco rocks. Great deals, friendly staff and a clean, big store. There are few negatives about this particular store: 1) I spend too much to save money. I can't get a few things because I always find something... 2) Way too crowded on the weekends. I hate going here on Saturday. Too many samples. People bring the whole family, each of whom stands around the sample tables. 3) Parking can be tough. Other than that, I love Costco. Seriously. I talk about it way too much. I recently used Costco Optical for glasses and contacts. The exam was fine and I spent, including prescriptions for both glasses and contacts, about $170, including the glasses. My contacts are $50 a box there (cheapest I could find it online was $65), which is just fine. The glasses came in exactly 2 weeks, as promised, and the contacts were at the store in 2 days, which is perfect. I couldn't be happier with costco optical. Get the glasses kit they sell there too. It has 2 bottles of cleaner fluid, one mini travel bottle, 2 high quality cleaning cloths, and a mini-keychain screwdriver kit. Plus, you get free refills for life of the cleaning fluid (just walk into Costco Optical and fill up your bottle - free!). If you have a problem, your glasses need adjustment, you lose a screw, etc., stop into any Costco optical and they'll help you out too. On vacation for 2 weeks and run out of contacts? Call the local Costco, they'll contact the costco optical where you got your prescription, and order the boxes for you (if they aren't already in stock). Pretty cool place. Plus, they'll bend over backwards to help you. I've seen people return the package from some meat they bought there (they said it was tough and not very good) and Costco refunded their money. Plus, its a good company that is well run and they take care of their employees. Personal favorite. read more

I normally shop at the Schaumburg Costco which is a five-star plus location, thanks to the fabulous employees. I shop at the Clybourn Costco only when I'm in the area visiting my son. The clientele is upscale but the employees are another story. This Costco has the trashiest employees ever. They spend most of their time in the ladies room swearing like sailors either with each other or in the stalls on their cell phones. Costco, why are you employing such a marginal group of people? These people aren't even fit to work at Walmart! read more

I don't have a membership to Costco, but thankfully some of my friends do, so I can reap the benefits! Everything is in bulk, so it's great when I have someone to split things with. I just can't always eat all that food myself! There's only a few items I get here all the time, but it's always fun to walk around and see what new things they have. Plan on waiting in a long line to check out, but the cheap prices are worth it. Don't forget to get a hot dog and soda (or "beer and dog" as my friend and I like to say) for only $1.50. Was having some problems with my membership so I went to the help desk. Apparently I was in the wrong line and when I got up to the register I was greated by a customer service rep with the name tag "Steve" who proceeded to ask if I had a mental problem for choosing the wrong line and was extremely rude. Needless to say we live in a world where manners are very important and I think Steve's manners were very unbecoming of Costco's generally excellent customer service. read more

I love all Costcos, but not all Costcos are the same. The Lincoln Park branch has horribly long lines and the wait at the register can be an eternity. They have a better & more varied daily seafood selection as well as pita (which is not avail at all Costco's). They don't have a gas station, nor the Hispanic goods located at the Bedford Park branch. read more

I am currently a member of Sam's club , but was a member of Cosco when it first opened , and they are pretty much the same. If you like to buy industrial sized drums of soy sauce at pennies per ounce , this is the place for you. I only have a family of 3 , so I didn't buy a lot of things there , mostly imperishables like paper plates , condiments , snacks , and frozen foods. One thing I really loved was their fresh seafood case, they always had a really great bargain on nice seafood like mussels , king crab , jumbo shrimp , and whole salmon fillets. The meat here isn't the cheapest , but the quality is pretty good. I really dug the Lamb chops here. My only gripe is the place always had really long lines , either too crowded or not enough cashiers. read more

You know you are a grown-up once you have a membership to CostCo. My husband's family are fans so we would go with them when they came in town. Then, we had their card that we could use. Technically, that is breaking the rules. We didn't know this until a suburban store turned us down at the register. Since we had amassed a cart full of goodies, we decided to get our own membership. It's a great deal. Since we live in a condo, we pick and choose what to buy in bulk. TP in January, paper towels in June. We're careful not to impulse buy although I have come home with a few things that I didn't need. Since Target has changed their return policy, CostCo is my favorite store. I do love the free samples of food. I also love the frozen fat-free yogurt in the cafe although I *know* that there is no way that stuff is actually fat free. It tastes way too darn good. read more

I am a a HUGE COSTCO lover! I have been a member since 1999. I would estimate that I get 70% of my food, personal and home hygiene from COSTCO. Many people complain that you have to buy in bulk. Bulk is good if you like saving hard earned dollars! I love saving hard earned dollars! You do need patience and storage methods. I have both! The one I go to most often is on 2746 North Clybourne Ave, occasionally I visit the one in Oak Brook and Niles. I even went to the one in Anchorage Alaska! The service is always Grand, like when you ask for something they walk you to the aisle instead of saying "uuum yeah it's in aisle four dude, I think!": Also they do it with a sense of urgency. Salmon, ground beef, pork chops, as soon as I bring them home I portion them in freezer bags. Their boneless skinless chicken breast is all ready portioned now in perforated freezer bags. Tooth paste come five tubes in a box, tooth brushes come in a ten pack, protien shakes come in a 24 pack, pasta comes in a eight box pack, BFD! I tuck them away in storage crevices in my one bedroom apartment and break them out when needed! Hand soap, dish washing soap by the gallon, I refill the smaller bottles. You can not beat the prices on beer cases and booze. Organic spinach, berries, pineapples, grapes, tomatoes, kirkland organic orange juice, Palmeros thin crust Margarita pizza, kirkland milk, Flat OUT Flatbread, Kirkland All Natural Multigrain 100% Whole grain bread, FAGE Greek yogurt, kirkland extra virgin olive oil, kirkland crumbled bacon, Dodonis Greek feta cheese, smoked Gouda cheese, are just a FEW of my staples, and when I am in marathon training mode (which is almost always) I keep my freezer stocked with super premium kirkland Vanilla bean ice cream and those skinny cow ice cream sandwiched which I have to eat at least four in one sitting! I Love my ice cream! My California King bed from COSTCO, two large beautiful decor mirrors from COSTCO, i refinanced my apartment with COSTCO services, I fill my gas tank at COSTCO.... I even got my wife's gorgeously beautiful 1.52 carat VS (2) Colorless (E) Emerald cut diamond to ask her for marriage from COSTCO!!!! She said YES btw!
