Never had Salvadorian food before and I am so glad we stopped here and tried it. It is delicious! Will be back again soon read more

Costa El Sol - Inside of restaurant - Salvadoran Near Me - Omaha, Nebraska

$2.50 tasty bomba pupusas (according to their menu bomba has chicharrón, cheese, & beans inside) and the fried plantains are what keeps me coming back! If you have been here before then you know you can't come time restricted, these pupusas are made with love and that takes time! Also, usually there are only one or two servers and it gets a pretty busy for lunch! That would be the only downfall but it is an easy fix, like I said, do not come when you are time restricted because the wait for the pupusas are worth it. read more

Awesome place. Fast friendly service. Always made fresh. Incredibly hot and fresh just the way you want it. Never wrong always perfect

It's been under new management and service has improved over the last few years. The food is awesome; you come here for the pupusas, stay the caldos, and possibly leave if it's packed because the wait times are abismal. There's lots of Latin music playing in the background and it can get a bit loud on Friday and Saturday nights, which many people love. You'll get a solid Central American meal for a decent price. Try the revueltas--they're the best! read more

Walking in, this restaurant doesn't look like much. The sodas are canned or bottled in a refrigerator at the front. There's no alcohol. The waitress spoke light English and we struggled a bit with communication. Once the food came out though, we were impressed. The pupusas were amazing. The cheese were the best. We ordered the sampler platter which came out at the same time as our meal instead of in advance. The food was hot and fresh. The pupusas on the platter were really good. The plantains were average. There were some meat pockets that were really tasty. I'm not a yucca fan, but someone else at the table thought they were good. The tamale seemed to have a potato in the middle which was weird and didn't get eaten. I had the pollo en crema. The sauce was excellent. The rice was as expected for a Salvadoran dish and went well with the meal. The chicken was moist except it was a bit hardened in areas. I think it had been sitting a bit too long after it was cooked. The beans were not anything to speak of, but were fine. Several in our party got the carne asada tacos. They all liked them. However, after eating one, the salt on the meat became a little overpowering and some of them did not finish them. One person got the burrito and thought it was excellent. Overall, it was a tasty place with some meals you won't find in a lot of places in Omaha. We thought it seemed clean and the food was hot. If you are looking for a Salvadorian restaurant, this one is pretty good. read more

Saw the reviews and thought I should give it a try. I love pupusa! They brought out fried flour tortillas chips which were fine and the salsa was very runny with a plain taste. They had a bag of yucca chips for sale and they were wonderful! The orange colored sauce for the pupusa is like a cold thin enchilada sauce and wonderful! The slaw had less vinegar than I am used to on a pupusa. It was just slaw and no liquid. The pupusa looked like it would be greasy but it wasn't and I loved the flavor. I had the pork, bean and cheese. Tamale was very good and not too dry or too mushy. I haven't seen a chicken sandwich so I thought I would give it a try too. It had way too much mayo for me. I wasn't in love with the sauce in the chicken. I would try anything else on the menu! read more

Love love love their pupusas & their steak tacos and green salsa!! Pupusas are full and authentic and delicious and the tacos are very well seasoned. If you ask and if they have their agua fresas the watermelon one is 10/10 as well! 5 stars definitely will be doing to this place a lot more! read more

Very good and one of my favorite spots! I always get the pupusas and never been dissatisfied. The service is rough, English is not the first language and trust me that's not a big deal with authentic food. I got the enchilada and it doesn't rate next to the pupusas. Do yourself a favor and get down there and enjoy a delicious meal. read more

The service is really bad. The food was not well cooked afterwards my stomach started hurting and i feel like throwing up. I don't recommend this store. read more

Great service, very easy to show pictures of food if there is a vocal issue, speedy service and always have good shows on in restaurant.

The food here is a definite 5/5 stars! If you get papusa's I recommend the pork and cheese ones! Just because I am a sucker for good service and a decent ambiance is why I would give them 4/5 stars overall, because they always have TV playing really load in the background while I've been trying to talk with my husband over dinner and personally I'm not a fan of that. The restaurant is definitely not a fancy sit down place, but they do have a few tables and booths inside. Their takeout option is my favorite since I'd rather eat good food at home where it can be quiet. Normally takes 20-40 minutes for them to have your order ready for takeout and it's really easy! read more

Wow, what an incredible restaurant. I happened to stumble across this place when I was getting the oil changed in my car a block away and was searching for restaurants nearby. I've only had Salvadorian food one other time in Miami, so I wasn't 100% sure what to expect, especially in Omaha, but wow. Just wow. They hit it out of the park. I ordered a steak taco, pork cheek taco, and a pork and cheese pupusa. The tacos are very similar to what you would find in a street taco or an authentic taco truck, with them also being served with a side of radish slices and lime wedges. The pupusa was done perfectly. They serve these with a side of seasoned cabbage and salsa. So much flavor. So much greatness. Oh, and per the recommendation by the server, the empanadas are incredible. They're deep-fried, dusted in sugar and filled with a plantain mixture. Get this. I feel like this is one of those hidden gems that people drive by every single day and don't even think twice about going in. Seriously, go in. You won't regret it. If you want great, authentic flavor, this is the place to be! read more

Food is good and at a dame good price I get lunch all the time and will keep looking forward to the excellent service

Moved from Arizona. Hoped food and customer service would have been good. Neither were good. Very disappointed.

I love Costa El Sol. We order takeout regularly. Their tacos de asada and pupusas bomba (beans, cheese, chicharrón) are the best. It's the only place in Omaha where I've had pupusas but to be honest I dont feel the need to look at any more because how could you top these? Their drinks are great too, everything is 100% authentic. read more

From working in Schuyler I had grown fond of eating Pupusas. This is the best place in Omaha for Pupusas cooked with the right so the Pupusa has the right consistency of meat and breading. Also ordered a steak burrito from there and it was also very good. read more

We were the only table in the place for the majority of our visit and yet two tables were in and out before we had even received our food. The gal was not helpful when we were trying to order... it was almost like she was laughing at us when we asked questions about a dish. One member of our party just gave up and ordered what she thought. It was a very odd experience... When our food finally came out, 2 of the dishes were not what we expected, but we ate it all anyway. After waiting over 45 minutes to get the food, it wasn't worth talking to her about it. Also... the prices on the menu did not match the prices we were charged. It wasn't a huge discrepancy, not worth the effort to bring it up and wait even longer to pay the check. Won't ever be going back. read more

Awesome place. I would definitely come back here again. Even my kids who are picky eaters really liked this place

Two words. Cheap. Delicious. Located at the end of a strip mall, next to a tattoo parlor, Costa El Sol is one of those little gems that hundreds of people drive past daily without a second glance. If only people knew. Fresh, warm pupusas stuffed with beans, cheese and/or meat. Just thinking about those little pockets of yum makes my mouth water. Equally delightful are the tacos. I'm a fan on the pork cheek taco, but they've got beef, chicken and pork (non cheek) for the less adventurous. Dining in is the best option (fresh, fresh, fresh), but carry out is pretty good too (there's always a slight sacrifice). The staff is always friendly and the service is always fast. Give it a go. You'll love it. read more

FIrst timer here. First impressions.... little hard to find with not a lot of signage. Walked in to blaring latin music and a dark atmosphere. Felt more like a bar then a restaurant. Group of people sitting at the bar drinking beer. After looking around, it appears that it IS a bar, after hours. Not very inviting if you dont know what you are getting. In fact I watched two older women, open the door, look in and turn around and leave. Ordered the Pupsasa's which appeared to be their specialty. Got one of each three flavors (bean/cheese, bean/meat/cheese, meat/cheese). Good but not great. the meat ones were the best with the most flavor. Salsa that they brought was more of hot sauce. just ok This place is not mexican, it is central american... El Salvador I think... so dont come in thinking traditional mexican. The group thought it was ok but not worthy of a return visit anytime soon. Decor was bit rough and service a bit slow.... never did get my refill on my ice tea. lol Overall, unless you love the pupsasa's, which by reading the reviews, some do.... I would move on. read more

Best pupusas in Omaha by far. Great service with short waiting times. You can order out or eat in the dining area. The prices cant be beat if you are looking for a cheap meal with high quality food. read more

Looks like a hole in the wall from the outside and a bar or dance club inside but the food is amazing. I always have the pupsas and Chicken tacos. Great fresh food with no American flair, just fresh authentic food. They do offer dishes with more Tex Mex feel, but the authentic Pupusas and Chicken Tacos are my authentic Favorites read more

Costa El Sol - I can not say enough great things about this place a true hidden gem in Omaha. Prices are very low, but food taste and quality are Awesome. - Salvadoran Near Me - Omaha, Nebraska

I'm not sure "Mexican" is at all accurate as a label for this restaurant... I mean sure, they have Mexican food, but this place is Salvadoran. Walk in and it is pretty clear... (Map of El Salvador on the wall...). With that said, the best thing on the menu is the pupusas are awesome. There aren't many (any?) other options for Omaha, so that makes these the best in town. The pupusas are super cheap so it is a great meal for a big family dinner. Go here. Try something new. (Also they have a dance floor... Try some of your moves on a weekend night?) read more

Chips and salsa: Home made chips, some a little stale but overall ok. Salsa was good but not oustanding. Pupusa: Had never had this before. Tasty. Came with a sauce and a cabbage type mixture. Ordered the pork/cheese. Light on the pork but tasted good and was inexpensive. Kids liked all of their food one with a bean and the other with ground beef burritor with rice/beans. One wanted more cheese on his burrito. Adults had Steak burrito and chicken enchillada. Both enjoyed. Empanadas: More of a dessert item, fried crisp outside with a filling inside that had maybe plantains in it? Nice item to try to finish. Not the typically fair for Mexican so nice to have some different items. We had a $25 groupon, that required $35 minimum. We didn't break $30 with extra appetizers, so will have to go back with either more people or have some drinks next time. Service was pretty slow with just one person and food was a little staggered. read more

So delicious and awesome service! For sure looks like a hole in the wall place, but inside it's adorable! Love all of the Salvador decorations and the big map on the wall. It's definitely authentic Salvadorian food... very true to their roots, and no American BS flare added. Super cheap too! read more

Arguably the best pupusas in town. A great mix of meals from El Salvador and Mexico. Awesome portions for a fair price. The best rice and beans! Everything is well prepared and spiced very well. The place is quiet and I believe turns into a club on the weekend nights. The menu is in both English and Spanish, but be prepared to pull our your Spanish or point as sometimes we have had servers who's English is hard to understand. Awesome local place that's great for quick lunch, dinner or drinks! read more

**Disclaimer - My reviews are stories so either deal with it, or go to paragraph three** When I lived in San Francisco, one of my favorite random stops I ever made was in the Mission at a random El Salvadorian Pupusaria. I remember stopping in the street staring at the sign thinking to myself... wth is a Pupusaria?? So why did I stop in? Well obviously the first part of Pupusaria sounds like 'poo poo' which was enough to make me giggle a little so I decided to give this place a chance. Thank Jebus I did because it started a new frenzy within me that I like to refer to as 'Poo Poo Revolution' When I moved back to Omaha I assumed there where no such eating establishments which naturally made me very sad... That was until I found out about El Costa Sol... One fateful day, I was driving down Vinton st and saw a sign for a Pupusaria. N say whaaaaaaaat?!? I totally had some free time so I stopped my car, parked, and found out they were already closed for the day. Boo!! (or should I say Poo?) I was still excited to see that Omaha could in fact fulfil my need for 'poo poo' so I drove home and immediately Yelped Pupusa. To my surprise, there were at least four establishments that came up with Pupusas!! Had Omaha been quietly hiding it's 'poo' from me all these years??? Either way, by this time my mouth was drooling with anticipation for shoving some gooey 'poo' in it. The place that was open at the time was El Costa Sol. You might be wondering what a pupusa is... Well let me tell you! It's like a corn based pancake stuffed with various goodies like beans, cheese, meat, or pumpkin flower. Pumpkin flower?? Hellz yeah! It's like this green flower that you can get in your 'poo' if you so choose. Pupusas are served with shredded pickeld cabbage that you put on top of the pupusa and you can drizzle or dump spicy red sauce on top of the poo pickle plate. The menu is a mix of El Salvadorian dishes and mexi dishes. I've been here a couple of times and I ALWAYS get a pupusa. It's $2 which is way cheap for the size and honestly you can have one pupusa and one taco and that is enough for one meal... all for $4!!! The tacos are the real mexi tacos with cilantro, onion and radish but I WARN YOU, if you get the combo platters with tacos, you will get the hard shell taco bell kind. I'm not sure why, but order tacos seperate and you'll get the real deal!! The El Salvadorian dishes are mostly steak which here is a thiner sliced but oh so yummy slab of meat that you can get in various ways. Last time I was there I got rice cream chicken and it was deeeeeeeeeelic!! When I eat foods, I can usually describe flavors, but this rice cream was something I cannot describe other than different and yummo! The meal also came with awesome rice, lardy beans, and two pupusas with no filling that I used like naan to scoop up every last bit of that rice cream that was my el salvo chicken was bathing in. I'll tell you that the El Salvo dishes are awesome but if you want to go more safe, there is plenty of mexi dishes as well. You get chips (fried flour kind) with salsa which is just average but who cares because you should be allocating stomach resources with pupusas and not chips! As for drinks, they have a several tequila mixed drinks (surprise surprise) and a huge stock of every tequila you know and and don't know. The also have shakes which I've seen people order, but I've never got it myself. For sure next time I go there, I need to get a banana pinapple one so I can have something to dip my pupusa in. The one thing I didn't like about this place is a lack of happy hour. The food is cheap, but the drinks are not! It all balances out in the end, but I usually end up getting a water because I'm a cheapo and bottled domestic beer is $3.25 (which you shouldn't be drinking anyway since they have import beer). I highly recommend this place if you are looking for an interesting place to eat in middle Omaha... AAaaaaaaand, of course you need to get your poo on!!!! VIVA LA REVOLUTION POO POO! read more

I live close to this restaurant and wish I would've discovered it earlier! I went in during lunch time hours. The waitress was quick to serve me with chips and salsa and a beverage choice. They were cleaning under, around and on tops of tables. The music created a calm and relaxing vibe. Which was perfect because I'm on vacation. I had yucca for appetizer and it was very good and plenty to take home. I had a tongue taco and a cheek taco. They were smaller but very good and to the tune of 10$. I was pleasantly pleased and would recommend it highly. If you want good food, service and a check that doesn't break the bank. Costa El Sol is the place. read more

I have to laugh at this being called "Mexican" food. It's Salvadoran. Totally different country! Anyhow, that aside, this has the best Salvadoran food in Omaha. I was at Creighton for four years and made the trip regularly with friends or to get takeout. My mom's side of the fam is Salvadoran and I grew up around the Salvadoran staple of pupusas. The revueltas are awesome. They have chicharron (pork), cheese and beans mixed inside. YUM. They are relatively cheap too. Beans and rice are great. Unlike Mexico's quesadilla, Salvadorans have more of a dessert item for a quesadilla. It is sweeter and kind of like a corn bread. It's prepared well at this location. My whole family came from Ohio to watch me graduate and we ate here to celebrate. They all got something different and have high standards for Salvadoran food. They all loved it! read more

Costa el Sol is A-OK. I had a pupusa to start off the meal. It was corn tortillas filled with pork and cheese, then pressed together to make a quesadillaish sort of thing. I'm not a big fan of corn tortillas, but it was pretty tasty. There was a cabbage slaw and mild sauce you put on top that gave it a nice flavor (and maybe covered up some of the corn taste for me!). For the main course I had #33 - a shrimp dish in cream sauce. It wasn't the most flavorful thing I've put in my mouth lately, but it was pretty good. The beans were the best part of the meal. They were runny and had a great texture. Today, they were out of chicken, so I will be back to try a chicken or beef dish next time! read more

Being on a diet for 2 months I had been craving pupusas for weeks. After reading some of the reviews on Costa El Sol I decided to try them out. I was really dissapointed. I liked the pupusas and the hot chocolate was authentic but that was it. My kids ordered the enchiladas and steak tacos and they were tasteless. The torta was huge and ok but a little more meat would have been nice; actually alot more meat. Service was good though. read more

This was my first foray into pupusa's, and I must say I'm impressed. This restaurant is a very good value and serves delicious food!

I ordered chicken tacos and they give me a chimichanga my sister ordered salad and the they came out with fried something plus they did not have much supplies for food read more

I have not had a Yelp account until I created one specifically tonight just to put my two cents in about this restaurant which I visited for the fist time this evening. I am very surprised at the several stars this place has gotten in the reviews. We could not find one good thing about this dirty little hole in the wall, and we tried with very open minds to do so. Here we go. We walked into the dingy lighting and were greeted by no one despite several employees milling around behind the bar. So we took off on our own looking for a table or booth. The first three we passed had not been cleaned off and no one was making an effort to do so...finally found one that was semi clean and sat down. First impressions...let's just get out of here, and we should have. Down we sat on the lumpiest booth seat I've ever encountered that was at least 16 inches away from the table. We had to sit on the very edge of the booth just to reach anything. And when you did lean back in the booth, if the people behind you were doing the same you felt every little movement and it would sometimes even shove you forward...very unpleasant seating. I found the menu hard to read..all in Spanish with English subtitles...usually translated as Authentic cuisine, right? Haha! We tried to order some cut above margaritas but the waitress spoke hardly any English, and we finally figured out that they are pre made drinks....lime and strawberry. And they were bad bad bad...not sure there was even any alcohol in them. No water at all came to the table....I'm not from Omaha so maybe you do have to ask for it here. The chips and salsa came and the chips were hard, the salsa runny and tasteless. The food came in pretty good order, but it was barely a cut a above everything else I've described...pretty poor. The waitress did pass by one time and asked us on the run if everything was ok...everyone friendly enough u just didn't seem to care about the customer. Another family came in as we were finishing up and also had to ask to have a table cleaned even though most every table was empty at that time....what's up with not cleaning up your establishment??!!! So if you are a gringo looking for some Mexican or Salvadorian food, I'd definitely try somewhere else. Rotten drinks, very mediocre or downright bad food, loud Mexican music, TV playing a Mexican station, and clueless help that is not good at English. I felt like I didn't want to touch anything in the place, and the final killer...my sister went to use the bathroom and found several floaters in the nasty nasty toilet. That does it...I'm outta here!!!! Two thumbs down.. read more

Pretty decent food. The beans were and rice were really good. papusus were decent but was looking for more filling. My wife had chicken that was ok. I had a fish dinner, whole fish head fins and all which I was very delicious. Ordered plantains on the side and they were good but I am used to getting sour cream and beans when ordering them and did not come with them. Im sure they would have brought some out had I asked as they were very nice. my kids liked the chicken quesadillas. If you havent had salvadorian food i would definately check it out as it as great alternative to mexican cuisine. Well priced and i would return for cheap good food. read more

The place is a Bar not at all a restaurant. Pupusas don't taste good at all, bad taste, bad cheese and the salsa is worst no flavor what so ever. It's cheap but not good, by the way be careful with the drunk guys that are sitting at the bar when you go in to order. This is not a place to go with family it's so dark that all you need is popcorn and a movie. I actually when today 1/31/2016 at 12pm. read more
