Update 09212018 Today I saw Duong. She was much friendlier than the person I had the last two time. She used a neck strip without me having to ask. I'll try to go to her from now on. Old review: I've been to this location a few times, and they mostly do a good job. Stay away from that woman who works in the first station on the left. She will jack you up! I think her name is Lupe. I told her it looked uneven, but she said it was even. I got home and had to fix it myself. Random points all over, and not blended very well. But what do you expect from a ten minute haircut? She had a request waiting, so I'm sure she was trying to get me out as quickly as she could. Also, she won't use a neck strip unless you ask her to. Cost Cutters Wells Branch location in HEB shopping center is a great place to get a Haircut. My is there and ready to do your hair, she is fantastic. Some of the Websites indicate it is closed most days and the online booking does not work for some reason, but it IS OPEN, do call to setup your appt. Its a chain haircut place, but its close to my home, the other staff is friendly, and theres a particular stylist here that does it right every single time. Her name is My, and she can make even MY mop look good. Not only that, but she actually remembers you, and also remembers how you like yours cut. Shapes, gels, and even takes an electric razor (?) to you if you forgot to shave beforehand. $15.00+$5.00 tip = satisfaction every time I visit. Thanks My!!! I typically have my hair cut at the Hair Cuttery in Chicago, and needed to find a place down in Austin. I was disappointed by my experience at Cost Cutters and would definitely decide to go elsewhere next time. For the price, $14.95 before tip, I was surprised you don't receive a shampoo (that costs $5 more). My hair was cut nearly dry (only a few spritzes from a water bottle and the ends were still dry) was disappointing. I'm not sure where/how the stylists are trained, but my stylist did not do a very good job of cutting my side swept bangs and the day after there were pieces that clearly didn't fall properly. Lastly, the station was not cleaned before I sat in the chair so there was hair everywhere from the previous client. All in all, I recommend finding a full service salon for $30 instead. read more

I previously had tried to give myself a pixie haircut and it was a bit of a disaster...My husband needed a cut today and I decided I really needed one too after my home hair "experiment" had grown out awhile. My stylist was Padma and she was really sweet, fun to chat with and did a great job!! She really fixed my short hair and made me feel good about myself again. Thank you Padma! I have been coming here off and on for almost 10 years, well its on again. They still do descent hair, and can do what you ask for. I not so sure about bald fades, but you can get that next door for extra $$$. I have had two different stylists so far and been happy so far. Let's see how long this one lasts. read more

Just had my hair cut by Padma. I definitely will not be coming here again. I asked for a simple cut: split ends to be cut off (1/2 in at most), face framing and side swept bang trim. She only gave framed one side, I had to ask her to do the other side, she started to cut my bangs straight across and I had to get a picture to show her (my bangs are already side swept and it was evident they just needed to be shortened a little, so there was a clear pattern to follow), and she tried to cut 3 inches off the length instead of the 1/2 inch at most I requested. Plus, she had horrible body odor so the whole time she was cutting my hair I had to hold my breath. It was a truly awful experience. Yes I paid her and left a tip, I'm not a savage, but would definitely NOT recommend this place or her as a stylist to anyone! read more

It has taken me 3 weeks to get to the point of being able to write a civil review. First, let me say, my whole family has gotten great cuts here in the past. And the day I got mine cut, my partner got a great cut from a different stylist. Mine, however, was a disaster! I wish I could find the pic I took! I brought in a picture and the stylist did nothing- and I mean NOTHING!!- like it at all. I mentioned it, she looked completely confused as to what to do, hacked on it some more, and then stopped. She knew it was hideous. She wouldn't even make eye contact!! She was the only stylist I'd seen in there before, and I'd seen some questionable results on others on prior visits. I've never held this opinion about other bad haircuts, but this stylist should NOT be cutting hair- at all. Someone take her scissors! I went to a different salon to fix it- the guy was flabbergasted. He did not want to touch my hair! He evened it up as best he could w/out leaving me bald.... Looking fwd to it growing out a bit & getting a real hair cut with a real stylist! read more

Price-wise, this place has the best deals. I purchased 3 cuts for $30 and still have 2 more to go. This is the only reason I'm giving a 2-star. When it came to cutting my hair... not so good. I gave clear instructions on how to do the haircut and not a single word was understood by the barber. She cut my hair in a way I've never seen before. Who cuts hair with a pair of scissors in one hand without holding the hair in the other hand??? My hair is completely uneven and she left hair in the back when I clearly told her to cut it to 3. Went here for the first time today and I was not disappointed. I normally go to Great Clips but I recently moved and this place was the closest to my apartment. I got there about 35 minutes before close and there was one person ahead of me. I thought I wasn't going to be able to make it in before closing time but nope! I was in and out with time to spare. The stylist I got was Kayla and she was a delight. Very down to earth and funny, a great conversation. Not to mention, the cut I got was an asymmetrical bob with layers, and that is a cut that is not to be done by amateurs, ya know? It's one of those weirder, harder haircuts. She asked lots of questions and made sure she got exactly what I wanted. She chopped off half my hair (I went in with very long thick crazy hair), and made me look amazing! I am very very happy with the result. I would definetly go back. Normally when I get a haircut, when I go home I play with it and figure out how I like it for like an 45 minutes. Yes, this is a chain and not "upscale" by any means, but I would not go anywhere else. Now that I have found My, I always have her cut my hair and she does a wonderful job! I am female with "problem hair" so sometimes it's hard to find the right stylist. If I can trust her with my hair, then I know she will do a good job for people with normal hair. Truth be known My could go work for an upscale salon, but shhh don't tell her! I would hate to see her leave! And you can't beat the price, $15 plus tip.
