I've wanted to go strawberry blonde for a long time, and I've dyed my hair nearly every color there is! Strawberry blonde can be a hard color to pinpoint, especially with auburn hair like mine. However, Rebekah was incredibly kind and put me at ease right away during our hair consultation. I was in and out within two hours or so, my worst nightmare when it comes to dying my hair blonde at salons is staying there for hours or having to go back for a second visit, but that wasn't the case! Before my appointment, I asked Rebekah a lot of questions and she was extremely courteous and professional when answering. I am Deaf, and it's really nice that she accommodated to me by giving me her phone number so we could text. Ever since I went strawberry blonde, I've gotten nothing but constant and raving compliments and this is like the 100th time I've dyed my hair. My hair is quite fried though, so I plan on asking Rebekah to incorporate Olaplex in the process whenever I get my hair done by her again. Otherwise, absolutely no complaints. TLDR: I almost cried from joy after my haircut with Sherry today. She's worth every penny and second. It's been YEARS since I found someone who gets it 100% to my liking with my cut. As someone with OCD and touch sensory issues I literally will wait until I visit my family to go back to my friend and mentor in NY to do a big chop or fix whatever is going on because if it's not just right it'll offset me for awhile. I've been getting my hair cut by Haley for almost a year now, every 6-8 weeks. She is wonderful! She listens to what I want and does an excellent job. I've also had highlights done by her a couple of times and they turned out exactly how I wanted them to. Very natural. I often get compliments on my hair, even when it's almost time for my next cut. Haley is very nice/friendly and easy to talk to (for this introvert!). The new location in the Gateway shopping center is easy to park/get in and out of. The salon also has great hair products (Kevin Murphy, Virtue). Also, my young daughter has had her hair cut by Haley and she did an excellent job. She was booked when we tried to schedule an appt for a haircut and highlights for my daughter for her birthday, so Haley referred us to Bailey (in the same salon), and she did a fantastic job as well. I am extremely unsatisfied with my result and experience with the stylist. I am disappointed with her lack of professionalism and guidance during my hair appointment. I felt lied to when I read on the website that she has experience for dark hair going lighter, grey coloring, and highlights. My hair is not at all what I had asked for (I showed her specific pictures). It was the shortest appointment I have ever had and I felt rushed. There was a lack of consultation and guidance from the start. I had figured Bex and Co was a reputable salon so I didn't second guess but now I will. to top things off my hair is left completely dead. I paid $422 for dead hair, no haircut (which I had asked for), and not the result I had wanted either. I was left so distraught and so unhappy. Attached are photos. My appointment was from 7 am- 11:30 and she did not have time to dry or style my hair so I paid and when I got home realized it was left with a blue tint! I had asked her about it and she told me to just wash my hair and it will come out. I never asked for blue hair. So I went back in and she "fixed" it and toned it a different color. She advised me to use coconut oil and to not curl my hair for awhile. I had reached out kindly explaining that the reference photos do not match the end result and explained I was not satisfied. I am giving 2 stars because the stylist was very kind and understanding but I ended up with a haircut that felt very wrong and I was clearly unhappy and little was done. I get a very basic haircut, trim the bottom, a little bit of a settle blended layer, and a small trim to the hair very close to the front since I wear it in a bun and little some hair hanging forward. The stylist was nice, but made a lot of assumptions about my hair, I was in pools, I never conditioned it, I used cheap products, none are things I do and made me feel bad although I think she was coming from a good place. The haircut took a few minutes, it's easy like I said, I could do it at home but don't have quality scissors nor can I do the back properly. I trust professionals and was going to someone for a while until I moved to Austin. I got the haircut and it was, well choppy, unflattering on my face shape, and overall not what I wanted even though I thought I was clear. She did things I never saw stylists do but she was the professional and I trusted her. She gave me step bangs rather than keeping them long so I look like a 15 year old who did their bangs at home. I am not a professional so speaking up did not seem appropriate and she seemed so confident that I assumed she knew what she was doing. I was unhappy but went to pay and I'm not joking when I say it said $95 FOR A HAIRCUT!!! A TRIM!!! I lived in LA and even for the most seasoned stylists in Beverly Hills I paid at most $80 since it takes 45 mins and is nothing as complex as color or bleach!!!! I was shocked since the website said $65+ for women's haircuts, I didn't know the plus could be 30$ more?! Once I finally left the store and went to my car, I saw my bands were uneven, my hair looked like a chop and then finally my face was framed so poorly. I was crying in my car and mustered up the courage to go back inside and get it blended some more. She was nice and blended it but I still hated the way it looked and left. I am sad and just feel robbed. I am still at home upset and just wish I spent more time researching a place to go that would make me feel beautiful. I cannot say enough good things about Stylist Karimah . She is AMAZING- which is why she Has been my stylist for the last couple of years. I am extremely tender headed and Karimah is gentle and patient. I also have curly hair with several different curl patterns. I go to her for gray coverage, partial highlight and a keratin treatment which helps maintain my curls and frizz. And I just love the decor, the sitting area, the wash bowls, everything. Plenty of parking at this strip mall on Burnet. Walk-ins welcome. A variety of drinks offered upon arrival. And the most amazing cut + color you can get in Austin. Lorette is amazing, she's been my girl for years. Prices are comparable to other high end salons, but remember, you cannot go cheap with hair. Not a good look! The wash bowls at Bex+Co are super comfortable, unlike any I've encountered. They have a platform for your head, so no unnecessary neck pressure here! I am very dissapointed with my experience. I went in wanting full highlights and showed my stylist a photo of ash brown highlights. She mentioned from the very beginning that I would most likely have to come back to get to my final results because my hair is dark and thick which I was prepared for. When discussing price, she said she would 'cap me at $450' with the understanding of a second appointment. Never did she let me know this cost was not my total charge. When someone says the term 'cap' after already mentioning a second appointment, that leads me to believe she is providing me with the full charge. Her pricing on her website states $350 for highlights and a cut, and I understand that my hair type could be more which is why I accepted the additional $100. However, when trying to set my second appointment, I asked if there would be additional charges to ensure I wasn't going to drive 30 minutes just to have a surprise bill. She then lets me know that it will be another $300 to finish my highlights.... $750 for highlights before tip is insane to me. I feel entirely misled. Wouldn't it be responsible to discuss the full charge before getting started on my hair? Additionally, my first appointment ran from 4:30PM-10:30PM. So I spent 6 hours in the salon just for my color to be stripped and be left with copper, streaky hair. She ended the appointment by saying 'longest appointment ever'. Her profile said she works with thick hair which is why I wanted to book with her and I sent over a photo of my hair before setting my appointment, yet I felt like a burden for my hair type. I also mentioned I didn't want all of the color at the frame of my face and instead a blended look throughout my hair and was left with the exact opposite. She said she was doing a shadow root, but this is not how a shadow root looks in my opinion - it is harsh and not blended at all. I spent half a thousand dollars for brassy hair that was very unevenly distributed. I don't like to complain and she was very pleasant to speak with during the appointment, but I haven't been able to get past this experience and just feel so sad that this is the result of my hair. read more

Not a fan. Had a horrible experience, and was only refunded less than half of my money. When I was told it was "something she was worried about from the beginning" also said she used $90 of products. But funny thing is I was a cosmetologist before moving to Austin. You shouldn't cry yourself to sleep every night knowing you can't go out in public not looking your best!! So, let me start off by saying that I have a LOT of hair. It is thick, curly, and has a mind of its own. My hair has broken thick combs and wooden brushes. It has shorted out the motors on $400 hair dryers. I called to book a blowout once and said I thought I might need extra time in the chair. "Oh, we know about you," they said. Stylists never really know what to do with my hair. In my thirty-mumblemumble years in Austin, I have had lots of interesting cuts. Bangs in middle school (the poodle look won me lots of friends, let me tell you). A triangular-shaped curly bob in high school (would've been cool if I were a Mathlete). A mullet in college (I cried, not gonna lie). Times were dark, people. I tied my hair back with three extra-thick hair ties and decided I'd learn to rock the librarian look. Then, on Yelp, I heard about this stylist named Adrienne who was a curly hair and thick hair magician. I figured I'd give her a shot. You guys. YOU GUYS. I don't want to overstate this, but Adrienne might legit be a wizard. I actually... like my hair now. I like it curly. I like it straight. She really (REALLY REALLY) knows what she's doing with my hair. And based on the people I see leaving before my appointment, she knows what she's doing with everyone's hair. Aside from being a hair magician, Adrienne's a really nice person. She remembers what's going on in my (honestly, super boring) life. She asks about my kid. She listens to me tell inane stories about preschool drama. She's the greatest. I started seeing Adrienne when she was at Milk & Honey. When I found out she wasn't there anymore, I cried in my car. Then I found out (thank you Yelp) that she'd moved to Bex+co. Cue chorus of angels. As far as Bex+Co goes, I really like the salon. It's taken me a few days to gather my thoughts - make sure I wasn't over reacting About the highlights KELSEY gave me (I was not- I've been blonde my whole life) and ask at least 10 other woman what they thought. I had the worst hair experience of MY LIFE- with Kelsey. First off- I'm in my forties and have lived all over and have great relationships with all my hair stylists but had to relocate. So it was hard to even find anyone as I am new to Austin. It took a month to get appointment because she barely works- but I waited! When I finally met her she seemed very detached and removed from the process- I even showed her pictures on her Instagram that I liked- a picture of me- with the exact color blonde I wanted- I was concerned because my appointment was only two and a half hours- I told her my hair is dark and it takes longer to lift to blonde- (she wasn't even listening)! You are going to die when I tell you how awful and rude and UNPROFESSIONAL SHE IS. So when she finished me at break neck speed (she told me she double books) I was very worried. But I had faith I thought perhaps she has a new hipper technique us old folk don't know about! Yay! Millennial hair rude person just thinks she knows best and MAYBE SHE DOES. So I sat under dryer with eXcited glee- I mean I hate spending 4 hours doing my hair ANYWAY! She was so Cocky about her skills and "knowledge" of blondes- I'd almost be willing to put up with it------if SHE DELIVERED. Ok time for the big reveal- btw she was the rudest hair dresser and no bed side manner (have I mentioned that yet)? --more on that later- so we go back to the chair after the rinse and I put my glasses back on like a kid at Christmas- the towel comes off- I DO NOT SEE ONE BLONDE STRAND- I panic- I know what this means and ITS NOT JUST BECAUSE my HAIR WAS WET- this ain't my first rodeo. She said- in monotone voice- it's still wet wait till I dry. But I knew. She dried it and it was dark. No foil lines- because she didn't LEAVE THE BLEACH IN LONG ENOUGH! I WOULD HAVE SETTLED FOR THOSE GROSS FOIL LINES IF AT LEAST I LOOKED BLONDE! I told her too I wear my hair in a pony tale all the time so make sure those pieces are really blonde too in front - she was listening...yah yah you know by now- After it was dry I very kindly said- I'm not happy. Now in MY HAIR DRESSER WORLD I'VE ALWAYS LIVED IN- that's when a hair dresser either says one of 3 things: 1) what can I do to make it better? 2) we might have miscommunicated I don't have time today but I will immediately fit you in and get you happy 3) don't charge me 200 dollars (like she did) or refund me! She DID NONE OF THOSE OPTIONS. She didn't even say she would try. She just said you're seeing things- your hair to unhealthy to go under dryer more-(not true - I have beautiful hair and have been getting blonde highlights longer than you've been alive. So I left salon miserable and shocked. But I still didn't really panic. I knew I just wasted 2 hours of my life and 200 dollars- and was not happy. It gets better. So I went home - got some rest -and thought maybe when I wake up I'll be blonde . I wasn't. I know no one- NO ONE- in the beauty care industry who would not have on the spot tried to make me happy before I left salon (mostly because of yelp and social media - reviews are everything- and for me to write all this about another person is hard- and I never would have- even after I was unhappy I would have just let it go- but then she crossed the line when this happened- So I texted her first thing am- I sent pics that showed all the dark brown and said is there anyway we can thrown in a few more highlights and let them cook longer so I feel pretty? So this is the return text I expected- omg g- it does look darker than what you wanted- I should have left more time for you - let me switch around my schedule so you can come ASAP and I'll throw more blonde around your face and a deep conditioning as well!For the health of your hair because you're worth it and you're a new client! And thanks for the HUGE tip you left me on top of the 200 dollars- even though you were miserable when you left salon- oops I'm sorry I didn't even try to help you or comfort you! No- none of that happened. Her reply- I don't think we are a good fit why don't you try another salon. Silence Shock REALLY???!!!!!!!! Never on my life have I EVER worked with a rude stylist like this! Hair stylists are always the best! Until their not. I'll be waiting patiently for the refund I'll never get and the few extra blonde highlights I'll never receive. I'm blown away. There was more texting that went- but I'll spare you the bitter end. I cant not speak highly enough about the professionalism and talent of the staff, the cleanliness and beauty of the space and of course the end result!
