My son had spent several months growing his hair longer than usual because he wanted a longer but still shortish hairstyle. He is somewhat shy so my husband & I went with him after spending the better part of an hour scouring through pictures to help convey what he wanted. When we got there my husband explained to Megan what he wanted, long on top, halfway over the ears, leave full in the back, & showed her the reference picture. He tried a couple of times to get her to look at the picture for more than the quick second but she wouldn't. My husband thought, "okay maybe she got a better look in that quick glance than I think she did". She did not. My husband & I were waiting in the reception area when we heard the razor. Why was she using a razor?! At this point my husband, upset & saying hair can't be super glued back on, went outside to calm down. When she had finished we also noticed she had cut the sides unevenly. We didn't want her to mess it up anymore so we decided to leave it & have someone else fix it. In front of Megan at the counter we discussed how the back was shaved & not kept long, etc. yet when paying she incredulously asked twice if we wanted to leave a gratuity. My husband, usually very friendly, chatty, & a generous tipper was very curt & did not leave a tip. TLDR, Because Megan didn't listen to instructions, couldn't be bothered to look at a picture for more than a second, & a lack of attention to detail, caused my son's hair to be cut unequally on the sides, shorter than asked for, & the 6 months he spent growing his hair long to be wasted. Let me start by saying that I understand that this is the budget option for haircuts. I thought I'd try to save a little money and give Cost Cutters a try. I called and made an appointment, and arrived 10 minutes early. The stylist sat me in a barbers chair immediately, which I appreciate; I hate waiting. I provided a picture of MY previous haircut for reference and the stylist said she understood. I proceeded to make small talk, but she wasn't having it. I sat in silence for 30 minutes as she butchered my hair. At the end, she commented about lines in it but chalked it up to me wearing a hat (I had worn a beanie early in the day) and left it. Fast forward to me getting in my car. The haircut not only doesn't look like the picture I provided, but it looks terrible. It looks like my 11-yr old sister cut it. I guess I got what I paid for. Tiffany was extremely rude, butchered my hair, and gave the worst customer service. She gave me an uneven haircut that looked horrible. I had to get a second haircut somewhere else to fix her mess. My wife politely asked her to cut the back a little shorter but Tiffany in a rude tone replied "I'm not DONE". Then after the haircut she told me to touch the back of my head to see if its good, without even giving me a chance to see it with my eyes. Both the back and sides of my hair were cut unevenly. This women was extremely hateful, rude, and disrespectful even while I was making a payment. Instead of apologizing to us, as we were leaving she said " I feel sorry for your life". This is my favorite place to get a haircut. For a busy guy, they do everything right. First, two days a week they discount the price by $5. Second, you can call ahead so no waiting around for a stylist. Finally (and most important) - they do a great job cutting hair. It's not a quick cut and you're out, and it's not an all day affair. If you want color done-- don't go to this salon. I've had two appointments at this salon and both times, the stylists were all pretty stand-offish and rude. Definitely a weird vibe walking into the salon. The second time especially the manager was rude and uncomfortable to talk to about the coloring that I wanted for my hair. The stylist also COMPLETELY messed up my hair and luckily offered to fix it, but the manager was trying to charge me a million dollars for a fix. So much for "cost cutters". However, not sure what the colorist did to "fix" my hair, but it looks like crap a couple weeks later and not at all what I wanted. I have had haircuts in my life that were less than stellar, but this one was SO bad, that when I went to another salon, the stylist was afraid to touch it! He evened some of it up a bit, suggested I let it grow a bit or go for an extremely short style. The left and right sides were nowhere NEAR even, the "bangs" were a wreck. Truly, there was nothing positive about this cut. On the day I went in, the stylist I got was the only one I'd seen in there before. I'd see some of her "work" before, and wondered how she remained employed, but thought I was just belng too harsh. NO, I wasn't! I wish I knew her name- she was nice enough, Asian, wore glasses & short hair. Will I ever return? Probably not. I have taken my sons to this shop, and it's been "ok". I am usually super picky about my haircuts but the well-trained stylists at the Cypress Creek Cost Cutters demonstrate time and time again that cutting hair is an art form. I go in on Tuesdays and Thursdays when they have their men and boys haircut special and for $11, I get a cut worth well over $100 at an upscale salon. That's not to say Cost Cutters isn't upscale. Their magazines are always perfectly stacked, the waiting area spotless, bathrooms cleaner than mine, and the atmosphere is always happy and family friendly. When you walk in the door, you're instantly greeted and quickly served. The best part about Cost Cutters, besides the fabulous haircuts, are the engaging conversations I have the stylists. When I first came here, I was not expecting the stylists to be particularly talented. However, they always did a phenomenal job with my hair, almost on par with experienced stylists at a salon. They were always welcoming, professional, and I never had to wait too long. Unfortunately, this past weekend I came in with my sister so that we could both get haircuts. Her stylist did a wonderful job! What I wanted was simple - a trim and straight across bangs. My stylist did not introduce herself to me (though her apron said her name was Jessica). I told her I wanted an inch or two trimmed off, and straight across bangs that stopped right at my eyebrows. I brushed my hair right before I came in, but she still pulled it very hard with her comb. She also kept combing over my right ear, so much that it was bright red and hurting by the time I left. She didn't even stop when I said "ow" several times. She tried to show me a "trick" so that I could cut my bangs myself in the future. I did not realize that she was going to use this trick on me at that moment until she had already cut the bangs. She didn't even move my hair to my natural part first or ask me where I wanted it parted. This trick she used was awful. The bangs came out extremely sloppy, way too short, and VERY crooked. I had long strangs hanging down in the middle of my face. I asked her to move the part to the middle so she did. Then she said the haircut was done. She didn't try to even out the bangs or anything. What's worse, I went to the checkout and she asked me how much I wanted to tip her. Under no circumstance should someone providing me a service ask how much I want to tip. I will always tip, but if there was ever a time I chose not to, that would have been it. My sister, who is not at all a stylist, had to fix my bangs when I got home. I want to give this woman the benefit of the doubt and say she was having a very off day, but she was extremely unprofessional and did not communicate with me at all. I will never come here again, but for the few talented young ladies I did have before, I hope they continue to provide great service. read more

About 7 months ago I went to my hair stylist and had my hair dyed brown with highlights and a month or two later I decided brown hair wasn't the best look for me and wanted to go back to my natural blonde color, but I didn't have $150 to spend at a salon to do it. So instead of being patient I took matters into my own hands. I tried to do it semi professionally to minimize damage to my hair so I went to Sally's and got all of the recommended materials and when I dyed my hair there was no change. I ended up getting really impatient and I just got a plain old platinum blonde dye from HEB and when my hair was finally back to the right color I had dyed my hair 3x in 3 days(so much for minimizing the damage to my hair. Luckily my hair didn't turn into straw like what happened to my sister a few years ago when she did the same thing and was forced to chop off her locks. However I did have a big clump of hair on my right side that seemed beyond repair. I have been doing everything in my power to nurse my hair back to health and get rid of the clump of dry frizzy mess before I would just give up and get a bob. So as my last resort I went to cost cutters to get a hair mask that healed me hair a few years back and asked the shorter haired lady at the counter for her opinion. I wanted to know if this product I was buying was the best they had to nurse my hair back to health and I ended up putting the hair mask back on the shelf and buying a spray meant to repair the damage of lightening your hair. The lady at the front desk was so helpful and so reassuring. It hasn't even been two weeks since I started using the product and guess what... NO MORE DRY FRIZZY MESS!! Now I can continue to let me hair grow out and I don't have to get a bob just yet (: I wish I had gotten the lady at the counter's name because she was just so awesome! read more
