I would absolutely not recommend this place now ! This place used to be our go to haircut for my toddler but after the management change - sorry to say but it's pathetic! I booked an appointment with Shelby for my 4 yo son . She seemed to be very sweet ! But was a disaster when it came to giving a cut . Even after telling g her soo many times to be careful she ended up giving a cut and left his ear bleeding! She was so slow as if she din knew what she was doing ! After the cut the other lady took over who was better but again if you don't know then don't take up the job !! Another thing that was a throw off - I requested them to play something on the TV which is why they are there and the other lady I think it was Shelly said they cannot play whatever we want and they cannot keep doing it for everybody... they even refused to turn the volume on !!! What a gem of a place for kids to get their hair cuts at Sharkey's! We downloaded their mobile app to schedule our toddler boy's haircut which is done only on Thursdays and snagged the last slot before they close at 7pm, it worked out great as we were the only ones there! Our toddler was mesmerized by the toy cars that the small ones can sit in to play in the vehicles, they have Disney movies to play on demand (which our little guy loves Cars!) and suckers and toy dinosaurs and cars to vroom vroom if your squirmy little one is needing all the distractions. We brought our own fruit snack candy to make sure he had something sweet to be motivated to sit longer haha. At the end, you can even get a balloon! Which our toddler LOVED. $18.95 + tax and gratuity for Dj who was so fun and pleasant to make the time go by. She is a gem and we look forward to our next visit so our son can learn haircuts can be fun and aren't terrifying! Yay! I've been bringing my son to Sharkey's cuts since he was two . We love the whole experience he gets but most of all the fact he always has amazing service and an outstanding hair cuts . It really doesn't matter who you go with as all the stylists are great at what they do . My son has got exceptional hair cuts from both DJ and Vihn both are great at dealing with children no matter if they are crying or just extremely jittery . They have been doing this for a while and little ones can be a hand full to try and sit still even if it's only for half an hour . I'd recommend booking online or by calling . Remember if you book online and have more than one child you might have to stagger the haircuts depending on who's available as opposed to having the children being cut siamotainously by two or more different hair stylists unless you find that there is more than one stylists with the same time slots open . So if you book several children all at the same time slot but with one hairstylist don't expect to have them done at the same time by other stylists who are equally busy just because you make an appointment . If you need specific times I'd suggest calling if you can't find anything online and to make sure everyone is on the same page before you arrive . My son loves the fact he can sit in a fire engine or big boy chair as he calls it depending on his mood and watch cartoons on Netflix or play X Box while he gets his hair trimmed . He also loves the fact that when he's done getting his hair cut they always wash his hair off with warm water so he isn't full of hairs at no extra charge . Every child gets a lollipop and ballon after their hair is done on the way out . But what my wife and I appreciate the most is how clean this place is kept . Other than the hair on the floor as your child is getting a hair cut or style there entire shop is clean as can be and no hair gets left behind from previous cuts as they clean up after each job and make sure the stations are sanitary for the next client . I recommend this place to anyone with babies , toddlers and children who need to be entertained while they get their hair done but still want a quality result in the end . read more

When we first got to Sharkey's there was another kid getting his haircut and he was crying so she had us all go outside so my son wouldn't be scared before the haircut. Contemplated not leaving a bad review, but felt I have to based on my frightening experience here. It's already been a couple days, but I still cannot believe how terrible my experience was with one of the stylists. My son is a very well mannered 2 year old who went in for a cut. The moment we walked in, this stylist was rude to us, telling us to "sit down" in the waiting area, not "take a seat: and not even saying a hello. Off to a bad start. The lady was so impersonal, didn't give eye contact, kept communicating aggressively, and most shockingly grabbed my sons arms multiple times to get him in the precise position she wanted him to be in. It was with such violent and unnecessarily strong force that she grabbed him, also without warning or communication which made it even more assault-like.. so much that my son who rarely cries started caving into his body and covering his face to cry. I needed a moment to make sure he was OK, so I tried to comfort him asking him "are you OK, are you scared?" Before he can even answer, she interjected herself and answered on my son's behalf, hollering, "HES NOT SCARED," and she grabbed him by his arms to straighten him again, causing my son to cry some more. I was so uncomfortable with this situation, I felt frozen and afraid and looking back I should have taken my son away and left the salon with a partial haircut because the lack of respect she has for children was astounding. She unempathetically, and insincerely pushed lollipops in front of his face despite my initial refusal of the second lollipop. The whole time she was also barking off her resume, rattling on and on about herself, and telling me how experienced she was, and how people assume that she is a mean person based on first impressions. Um, accurate. She did do a good cut, but the experience was so unpleasant, and frankly a bit traumatizing. I just kept apologizing to my son the whole way home. Didn't expect such an impersonal experience on our son's first haircut. I am not sure if it's the particular hairdresser or the salon in general. My son, who was 8 months at the time of his haircut, wasn't very thrilled about getting a haircut. We chose to get his hair fully trimmed down. Visiting a kid's hair salon for the 1st time, my expectation was there would be some level of engagement or distraction that the hairdresser would do with the kid. My wife and I were definitely there to keep our son distracted while his hair were getting trimmed, but we were also expecting the hairdresser to be engaged with our kid too. I don't think there is anything wrong with that expectation, esp. when it's our 1st-time experience. What ended up happening was that my wife and I spent the entire time trying to keep our son engaged while he was crying and the hairdresser just got her work done. And that was it. Worst experience ever! We have had great experiences with DJ in the past, but she wasn't available and both of my boys seriously needed haircuts, so we decided to try someone else. Big mistake!!! Haircut#1-We specifically asked for an 8 on top and 2 on the bottom. I walk over to my other son to see how he's doing and when I get back to my little one, she says "oh i did a 1 1/2 on the bottom, then 2, then 8". She decided to take it upon herself to decide what kind of haircut to give my son. Haircut#2-Normally when boys get haircuts, they go BEHIND the ear, not over the ear making a big circle making it look like a helmet. She also went way up high on his neckline and continued to buzz to try to fix it. Then she proceeded to say "well you should have told me". Don't hairdressers normally ask "how short, how much?" And if they're not sure...they ask? Telling them an 8 and a 2 should be sufficient enough...I mean, it is their profession. Unfortunately, DJ's hours seemed to have change, so there's no real reason for us to go back. So thank you DJ for the past wonderful haircuts. You pick where you want to sit, be it a pink jeep, a police car, or an airplane to name a few. This is great to get the kiddos excited about going to get a haircut. 2. Each seat has its own TV, which you then get to pick any DVD (including Frozen) that you want to watch while you are getting your 'do done. In the big kid section, they also have video games that they can play during their cuts. 3. Your cut comes with a shampoo, blow out, barrette, ring, and a manicure all for $20.95! Yes, a manicure! This goes for girls. I'm not sure what the boys get. 4. They have a frequent customer punch card. I love places that appreciate repeat business. This particular card is buy 9 get the 10th cut free! Yay! 5. There's a Yelp check in offer! 10% off services Monday-Friday 10-3pm! 6. My kid got a nice haircut to boot from a very nice stylist. Her stylist, Pamela, was very sweet and kind. She worked hard to make sure my daughter was comfortable and happy. I totally think the $20 price tag is worth it because of the experience and the nice haircut. Brought my 4 year old here for her FIRST EVER HAIR CUT. We were nervous, and not aware of the services provided for a kids cut at $24.95 (we are newbies) The staff was absolutely amazing, very welcoming! My daughter had her first ever shampoo, cut, blow dry and style, a hair clip AND got her nails painted along with a cute fashion ring. She got the choice of playing video games or watching a kid show during her hair cut, also got to choose which car she sat in for the salon chair. They also have a play area for the kids while you wait (my one year old was entertained the entire time) It was an amazing experience and she told me she can't wait to go back. My little offspring was growing hair like it was going out of style. In fact, it was getting pretty ridiculous. The little man had some serious mad scientist hair. It was finally time for the iconic "FIRST HAIRCUT" So, we packed up 14 different cameras, strapped Captain Shaggyhead into his car seat and headed over to Sharkey's, which is surprisingly not a pool hall. This place was way cooler than I expected. The little kiddos get to sit in a decked out car / chair, complete with working horn and other power buttons. Nice flat panel screens have the expected Disney movies on loop. The stylist and the owner were incredibly helpful, gentle, and caring. 11 month-olds don't like to sit still in one place for long, and about 10 minutes in, our little guy started trying to make his escape. The scene was quite amusing. The stylist is trying to finish the cut. Another stylist is cooing and trying to distract our little guy. The owner is handing him balloons and toys to keep him placated. Meanwhile, my wife and I are just taking pictures and laughing at the chaos. The haircut turned about amazing, and the experience was fun. Older kids (and maybe the young at heart like me) would also appreciate the big flat panels hooked up to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360's for gaming while getting a haircut. They saw me admiring the setup, and it was made very clear that dads can also get their haircut here. This is a cool and fun place with friendly staff and skilled stylists. We'll be back. read more

Had such a bad experience yesterday. I have loved this place before but can't trust them again ..perhaps the staff as changed. Landed into wrong hands, needed a nice one just like I got at sharkeys for my girl last time. Don't know the names but landed with a stylist who cut bop like it was lawnmowing- straight and no bounce. Picture shows how had it before and the 2 pics showing the 'now' the only other stylist present there was far more experienced and helpful. I went back later to get help with correction of the cut- she did try to correct and make it better (thanks to her) but enough damage was done I guess and now we are stuck with this shabby cut for a few months :( read more

My son decided to have a major hairstyle change going from shoulder length hair to a short haircut. Since he is 10 years old I booked an appointment that included washing of the hair. This is my first problem, that they advertise and schedule for a cut that includes a wash, and then don't wash it. If you book online, choose the cheaper option of cut and style, rather than wash cut and style, because either way the hair will not be washed and you will get a better deal.... DJ was the stylist who cut his hair. Although at first it looked OK, and DJ showed us how to style it so it looks good, upon returning home we realized there was so much hair left over in the back, around the ears, and even on top. It was pretty much a bowl on top of his head! There were lots of tears! I called back to see about coming back in and fixing the haircut and the girl on the phone said that they'd call me back, which never never did. So that was super disappointing! We ended up going to derricks's Barbershop where they fixed the haircut and it was way cheaper. I would not recommend this place and we are not going to be back! read more

Here are some things that Sharkey's has that most places don't. 1- Nintendo while you get your hair cut. 2- girly shows that run on only one side of the salon. 3- nail salon / make up studio for kids that have finished with their cuts. Complementary. Oh, non- chemical nail polish and the kid gets to keep a ring. Also, Donuts and coffee. Very very smooth. 4- VERY patient stylists. I've been to other kids salons where my child wasn't really given this level of attention and care. (Ms. G.J was so kind.) 5- balloon for every child when they are done. Got this recommended from my mom. She had taken my son last year to get his hair cut. He loved the experience and that's all that mattered. Our stylist was amazing. Very sweet and held a convo with me while giving my son a great cut. The only thing keeping me from 5 was the fact that I made an appointment, showed up and had to wait. And the women behind the counter was more interested in her phone then getting us checked in. At one point I think she forgot I was standing there until she looked up. I get it. It's a technology driven world but there is a time and a place. That time is not when you have a paying customer in front of you. And another hint: save your time on making an appointment during the week. Just show up. It's just as fast. But definitely make an appointment on the weekend. The kids and I discovered a really great place for kid cuts yesterday! The last time we went for a cut, we went to KAOS, where after the first swipe with the clippers, My son (who has autism and sensory needs) ended up on the floor having one of the biggest meltdowns I've seen. I had to physically restrain him in my lap to finish the cut. Afterwards, we were scolded about him not wearing shoes (which is a big sensory issue for him) and were told that we could not come back unless he had shoes on his feet. It was such an awful experience that I literally cried the entire way home. Yesterday, my daughter wanted a new style and I found a place called Sharkey's Cuts for Kids - Cedar Park, TX by Lakeline mall. The place was beautiful. It was really like the best attributes of every kid cut place all put together. They had TVs, video games, regular seats, fun seats, a glamour room for cuts and parties. While every other place I've been to just sprays water on a kid's hair, my daughter's cut included a shampoo, cut, style, and manicure! She loved it so much. But the best part was my son. They were so wonderful with him. He stayed calm and was so great. He even let them wash his hair! When we left, both kids talked about how much they loved it and how they can't wait to go back. My son even said he loved his lady and wants her to cut his hair every time. I talked to the owner about our previous experiences and she told me that they have a lot of children with special needs. She said she is fine with him not wearing shoes and that if you have a child with sensory needs, they're even willing to schedule an early morning appointment, before their official hours to cater to a child's sensory needs. I know this is a long post, but I can't stress enough what a wonderful experience we had. If you have a child with sensory needs, or just want an amazing place to take your kids, please check them out. Support a business that is accepting of *all* children. We first heard about this place when my daughter (6) was invited to a birthday party there. The party was still going on when I came to pick her up so I checked out the store and was impressed. It's clean. REALLY clean. The owner was sitting behind the counter was one of the most pleasant people I've talked to in a while. I didn't feel rushed out of the store or ignored or anything, she told me to look around talked to me about her business some (I'm a bookkeeper, so kind of a business geek anyway) and about the model. My daughter came out of the party room all glitzed up and demanding her next haircut to be there. So... when she decided to get her hair cut, off we went and drug big brother (9) with us to get his hair cut too... but you don't just get a haircut at Sharkey's. You get an adventure. First you get to choose between a movie or a video game. The boy chose a video game, which is played on a large flat screen attached to the wall and the girl chose a movie, which is on a smaller flat screen on the other side. The movies have special chairs (cars and stuff) and the video games have standard barber chairs. I let the kids tell us what to do, and I wandered off while they played/watched/whatever. I read for a few minutes, but the owner and I struck up another conversation and just talked about random stuff (again, maybe it's just me, but I like it when people don't ignore you). After they got shampooed and a haircut, my daughter was whisked off for her fingernails painted (glitter blue, of course), a glitter tattoo, a hair clippy and a ring. I mean, she had some serious bling going on, people. It was around $35 for the two of them, so not too bad. The kids were happy. The staff was super excellent nice and the place was very clean. I highly recommend you to drop by this location - it's by Toys R Us in the Lakeline Mall shopping center. At first I thought they were there to compete with another kid's haircut place nearby, but they don't even compare - and the price is nearly the same. The kid's both got really really good cuts and had a great time. My son did declare it to be a little too girly, but said he preferred it because it was quieter than the other place. I cannot say a single negative thing. I went today with my 8 year old to get a major hair cut for hair donation for wigs for kids. The stylist was amazing and very patient with us. She did an incredible job and was kind and generous with my 6 year old son also. For $25 we got the donation cut, wash, cut, style, nails painted, a treasure box ring for both kids, a balloon for both kids and lollipops for both kids. I was truly blown away! What a disappointing experience! After reading the reviews here and on their site, I made an appointment for both of my children, so they could have a fun, salon experience. I wanted to reward my children with the fun, almost glamorous experience they advertise on their website. Their aunt and uncle have a cool salon back home and they had been asking for a similar experience, so I decided to pay a bit more for a haircut, just so that they would have it. This is NOT a fun place! They have the right idea: movies, fun chairs (a little on this later), video games, free little thingies like tattoos & hair clips. But it takes more than that. First of all, although my appointment was confirmed a couple of hours earlier and I emphasized that I wanted both kids top have their haircut at the same time, one of their hairstylist had just started working on a client when we got there. I felt like I was in a Seinfeld episode... I thought that's what appointments are for.... The waiting wasn't glamorous either. To be able to watch her movie, my daughter was asked to stand in front of a t.v. until her stylist was ready. Seriously?? My son's stylist insisted that my seven year old daughter was to tall for the cool chairs they show on the website, so she made sure she never sat on them (although one of the other stylists seemed to think that it would be fine). My son's stylist never engaged us... at all! You know how there's people have fun with kids and ask them about school, sports, anything! This person showed absolutely no interest in them. I mean, isn't that part of the fun of going to a salon, especially a kids salon... feeling like a grown up, getting a bit of attention while you are at the chair? NOTHING. She was just not interested and didn't even fake it. The haircut was o.k. When it was my daughter's turn, she got to sit in a plain old black salon chair. Yikes! My son gets to sit on a cool car and my daughter is stuck in a normal chair with the cushions to raise her up. Although Vinh (whom I asked for based on the reviews here on Yelp), was certainly more talkative, she basically talked about how I should buy their products. When she finally engaged my daughter, my daughter immediately responded, but it was time to dry her hair (I was surprised she didn't use a diffuser, since my daughter has curly hair), so I was the only one listening to what my daughter had to say. I felt so bad! There were other people in the salon, but there was no engagement going on, everyone looked bored, even those who were obviously regulars looked bored. Again, the franchise seems to have a good business model, but they need to hire the right people, people who love children. Also, I would suggest that they do not focus so strongly on cross selling on the first visit. If a business fails to earn my trust and my business by delivering on their brand promise, why would I want to invest even more money in it? read more

We're still going here since it's so close. We did have a bad experience with one stylist who totally butchered my daughter's thick hair. I had to take her somewhere else and have it redone. My kids really enjoy the extra attention they get here with the nail polish, etc. And I am still annoyed by the lack of comfotable seating for those waiting. A few real chairs off of Craig's List would not be a big investment and would be way more professional than those stools. Just sayin'. read more

This place is a joke! They have the right ideas with the cute cars to sit in while your kids' hair gets cut and the tv's with movies and the toys ... BUT, the stylist we went to was horrible! I mean just awful! My sons bangs were so slanted and - she just kept cutting to try and straighten it and I finally had to yank him out of the chair. I have no idea why others rated this so high. DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE! Oh, and $25 for trimming my daughters hair ... just because it was her "First HairCut"?!?! No thanks! read more

The first time I took my daughter there it was great. The stylist was very nice and was social. She made my daughter and I feel great and even offered options and never forced my daughter in any way. Yesterday we go for her second cut and the stylist never acknowledged us and when she starts to do my daughters hair she makes her sit in certain chair and forces her to do things that we did not experience on our first visit. She made my daughter cry and when I held her to console her the stylist continued to cut and powder my daughter .. I clearly told her to let me calm her down and she just continued. Very rude. She claimed to be cutting children's hair 12 years then she said 13 then by the end of it it was 20 years. She will never touch my daughters hair again. read more

Took my son here this weekend for his first haircut. It was easy to make an appointment over the phone, the staff were very friendly on the phone and in person, the studio itself is clean and up beat, and the haircut was pretty good- it took a total of 4.5 minutes- they are clearly trained to work well with kids and do it quickly! I wanted his first experience to be special because we didn't know how he would do. If cost $21.00 without a tip which is very expensive for less than 5 minutes, but that is okay because if is a special treat. Will we come back? Probably not. But for a first experience, it was positive and I would recommend it to others. read more
