Even though the shop was nearly empty, their tone was poor, almost rude, and they showed zero flexibility for parents trying to make a joint decision. She was absolutely professional and personable. The place itself was clean and orderly. She also knew how to cut and style. I watched as she was cutting and styling a little girls hair and it came out really nice! So much so that I'm thinking about booking for my daughter's first haircut. Anyway, I showed her a picture as a general idea for my sons cut and she pretty much made suggestions and then went at it! I was impressed she knew that much! I'll just say I've been to other locations and the hair stylists would not know how to cut of style my sons hair based off pictures I'd show them and they would push back. Throughout our visit, Jennifer came across as annoyed or unhappy to be there, with facial expressions and body language that felt unwelcoming. The most disappointing part is that as the owner, first impressions and customer experience really matter--especially in a business centered around children and families. She's very talented, extremely patient and kind and my family always looks like a million bucks after leaving her place. She has toys and snacks for the kids to keep them occupied and if you like, she will put something on her tablet for them to watch while waiting or while cutting. I love that I'm supporting a local woman but the bottom line is, she's an amazing hair dresser with a heart of gold and thaaat's why we have been going to her all of these years. Absolutely fabulous. Fatim knows her way around kids hair - period. She's just really patient and takes her time. She used to fit our kids hair at Snipits and I'd always be amazed that there would be a line of families waiting for her to cut their kids hair while the other stylists just sat and chatted. She's that good. We visited her own place for the first time today. She has done everything to keep the kids happy and want to be there for their haircut. At the end she offers with permission balloons on a stick (so cool!), animal crackers, and lollipops. Honestly none of this matters if the haircut isn't great and it is. When we were at the register and saw that her bill had almost doubled, I asked what the extra charge was. The cashier said "haircut and gloss." I turned to my mom and asked, "Did you get a gloss?" (I didn't even know what that was.) She seemed unsure so the cashier went back and asked the stylist and confirmed the charge. The cashier offered no apology, no explanation, and no option to remove the charge. I spoke to my mom later and she told me that the stylist had asked, "Do you want your hair to look shiny?" and she answered yes, having no idea she was agreeing to a $41 add-on. Had she understood it cost extra, she would have declined. My mom has very short, fine senior hair that she washes every day. A $41 gloss is completely unnecessary and the way it was presented to a 93-year-old woman feels predatory. This is the second local salon that has done virtually the same thing to her (previous one turned a $25 cut into $50 with similar undisclosed add-ons). The haircut itself was fine, but targeting elderly clients with confusing, expensive extras they neither need nor fully consent to is unacceptable. They have permanently lost both of our business. Seniors and caregivers: ALWAYS ask for the total price upfront and specifically say "no extras or products." I'd hate for another elderly person to be taken advantage of the way my mom was.
