A St. Paul staple! Cossetta's always hits the spot. The space is huge and you're always able to find a table. I enjoy the cafeteria style concept. There's so many good itialian options. Some favorites include the chicken Parmesan and any of the pizzas! The food line can be intimidating, but it moves quick and is well worth the wait. I would love to go back and visit the market area. There's so many grab and go options that can be prepared at home. The only draw back is the parking isn't great - if there's an event happening at Xcel, it's going to be busy and you will have to pay for parking. read more

I came here for lunch on a weekday and it was busy! It is cafeteria style, you grab a tray and go to the station you want. There are Salads and sandwiches, where most people were waiting, and then pasta and pizza after. I had the chicken Parmigiano and my friend had the veal Parmigiano, a side of ziti pasta came with. It was very good and filling. They also have an Italian grocery store. You can get single servings of lasagna and Ziti to go, plus many other grocery items. I had dinner at the very welcoming formal restaurant, Louis, on the top floor of this very popular and busy St. Paul spot. Visiting from California and staying at the nearby Saint Paul Hotel, I was eager to see Cossetta. My maternal grandmother immigrated from Calabria, Italy, in the early 1900's, as did founder Michael Cossetta. I started with a simply dreases green salad, then moved on to the chicken piccata. This place has easily become one of my go to Italian places, especially for dessert. The cannolis are my favorite as they fill them right in front of you and the crispiness is unmatched. The tiramisu was mediocre, but there are other pastries were good. They have some parking that's paid in front of the restaurant/store but also some street parking nearby. The workers there are very helpful and have a good insight into their products which helped me in making a selection. The ambience reminds me of an old town New York building, it's very eclectic. If they haven't had it, take them and grab a 17" pie curbside. Perfectly foldable slices reminiscent of home awaits them. My secret for the best food is to go right when the dining room opens and the food is freshest. The food: My favorite is the garlic bread and the pizza, however their special tortellini which isn't on the main menu is also amazing. I love Cosettas the selection of impoted Italian meats in the Deli would be enough to keep me coming back. That's not all they have, the patisserie is not only visually stunning but every thing I've tried had been delicious. If your looking for a tasty slice of pizza, or a yummy Italian sausage sandwich this is the place. Not to mention the pasta. You can get all the ingredients to make your own pizza at home from crust to cheese, they have fresh lasagna noodles, and trust me when I say once you've tasted them you'll never want to use the dry stuff again. Most of my visits have been to the market where I like to purchase the focaccia bread which is soft and tasty. I use it to create pizzas at home, but if you dont want to do all the work, they do sell pre-made pepperoni or sausage foccaica pizzas in size small and large. If you don't like the Focaccia crust they also sell pizza dough however I've never tried it. I imagine it's the same pizza dough used in the eatery. I've had the pizza and I'm not a fan; it's always tough and chewy. I've also had an entree which consisted of penne with 1/2 chicken parmigina and 1/2 marsala chicken. It was all bland..... and being honest I've made better at home. The pastry shop is nice. There's lots of options including fancy chocolates and gelato, none of which I've had. Ive only had the pastries (sold per piece) and cookies (sold by weight) which are pricey and okay. In the market as well as the Eatery they do sell Cakes By The Slice. I've had the carrot cake which is really good as well as a strawberry cream cake. The cake part is good but the frosting isn't; it's real gritty (undissolved sugar. I wish they would have used either whipped cream or buttercream. I would not get that one again. Overall I think it's cool to visit when I'm in the area, but do think the food is overrated. read more

After moving to Minnesota Cosetras is a place we heard about the last few months. A cafeteria style eatery on the first two floors with a sit down Italian steak and seafood joint on the 3rd floor. I came in with high hopes but am leaving underwhelmed. Some quick overviews Staff - was not helpful, a bit rude and needs to remember this isn't Chicago, and that is coming from a Californian who just moved here I am used to rude. Food - We ordered from the main floor, pizzas, hot sandwiches and salads. The meatballs were lukewarm and I judge all Italians places by pasta and meatballs. The portions were solid but if you have kids it isn't easy to work the process and the staff isn't quick. People probably love the seat yourself, I don't. If I am paying $70 plus for four I expect a little help, this is likely why my food was cold. Frankly DeGidios kicks this places alpha sigma sigma :) Mucciis is a different planet. read more

First stop when I landed in MN for lunch. Huge array of goods left and right. My friend loves their lasagna, and I had a bite and it was really tasty! I decided to go with the chicken parm and it wasn't too heavy at all. Perfectly fried and reheated. Both come with a side of mostaccioli which is such a simple dish but addicting! The breadstick is super duper oily but so so good! Inhaled the whole thing! We then checked out the market and then bakery. Extremely disappointed with both my conversations I had with "Greg" today. He claimed to be the manager of the Italian Market and after interrupting me multiple times to tell me his bottle in his hands wasn't expired, I was able to finally get out that I can come with my bottle and proof of purchase to prove I bought a $45 bottle of expired olive oil. I should have checked the bottle myself. But more likely I'll just shop somewhere I know checks and rotates products off the shelf.. and doesn't have a Greg. He did offer me to come swap out the bottle eventually but who the hell is gonna go in knowing his current communication skills are lacking to say the least. Not me. read more

I am slightly Italian and grew up in Chicago among other Italian families and I haven't found Italian food like Chicago Italian food in Minnesota...except at Cosetta's. This is an unusual place to be sure and it's a bit overwhelming at first...I was a bit underwhelmed by the pizza...the cheese was super salty and had no stretch the sauce was a little bland and the crust was just the same...however!!! We ordered the chicken Marsala (which was super salty and the chicken had a weird mushy texture) it came with a mostaccioli con ricotta that had a cleaning product after-taste), the tortellini alla panna w/prosciutto bits (that were too burnt and way too salty), then, my husband ordered the meatball side (which says they were known for...just not tasty one bit), and a side sausage which was spicy also just not the best tasting). This place is off the charts evil. If I want to pay my mortgage I have to stay away from Cossetta. There's just too much. Every style and brand of San Marzanos, Olive Oil, real single source Pecorino and Parm ,even including the occasional wheel of Vacce Rossa, real Italian pasta, multiple styles and brands of charcuterie, both foreign (that is to say imported from Italy), and domestic, every iteration of every Italian cheese you can think of..and this is the only place to find most of it. We went for lunch and it's a very interesting setup. There is cafeteria style served food with a lot of different options. The pasta I got was pretty mediocre to be honest. If I am going to an Italian restaurant, I expect to be really impressed. Just kind of bland. Garlic bread was also just meh. The pizza slices are huge and is about $6 a slice and it is pretty filling. The cesear salad with chicken, the Mostaccioli Con Ricotta & Sausage and cosetta sub are my go to. The Mostaccioli Con Ricotta & Sausage is served with garlic bread and I add the side of meatballs. The meatball is huge so you only need to get one unless you're really hungry. Cossetta's is a must visit for all things-Italian. It is a historic landmark and one of the places that to try if your exploring St. Paul, Minnesota. This review is more so for their pastries, but I also enjoyed the food court style entrees for dinner as well. You will find authentic pastries crafted by pastry chefs who have studied abroad in France and Italy. There are so many to choose from vanilla cannoli, apple danish, to more mainstream desserts such as the red velvet cake or macaroon. I am all things mango, so my go-to is usually Mango Mousse under the category of 'Pasticceria Cossetta'. This treat is beautifully crafted with its roundness and smooth texture. I am not a big sweets person, so it is great to have the balance of the added strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry that top this mousse off. Be warned as each bit will melt in your mouth and make you linger and at a state of happiness. In addition to this, I usually chase the mousse with a vanilla macaroon and freshly squeezed orange juice. Cosetta's is great and their pastries and drinks are never a bad thing especially after a hot summer day in the Twin Cities.
