As a mid school exam (AQE) treat, I took my 11 year old, studious daughter out for dinner. She wanted to go to Cosmo Belfast in Victoria Square Shopping Centre Belfast. Cosmo is a family favourite of ours. My two daughters love it as there is pizza, pasta, chips, sausages on offer. My eldest loves the aforementioned but is now experimenting with more exotic food and loves sushi, dim sum and barbecue!! She also tried my starters! The range of starters and quality was excellent however there could have been more dim sum. There were lots of dishes to choose from and different nationalities were well represented ie Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Barbecue and traditional to name but a few. We managed to get through quite a lot between the two of us!! The dishes were replenished regularly however the Indian section was not. We didn't eat Indian as we get that at home all the time!! The other section my daughter loved was the sweet section.....she really went to town here!! Personally I'm more of a savoury liker but the panacotta and angel delight were very nostalgic!! The staff were super attentive and I loved the live Teppanyaki station. My recommendations would be the dim sum, sushi, teriyaki, Mongolian lamb, crispy chilli prawns and surprisingly the traditional Christmas turkey and ham dinner!! Cosmo is what you make of it and there's enough choice to make very different things of it. You can binge on carbs or meat or thick sauces or take a very different route. I caught on some time ago that if you think you have been lacking in vegetables and wish to "dose up" on them, a self-service buffet is the place to do that as as you simply wouldn't get the quantities elsewhere. If you want to fill a plate with green beans, Cosmo is actually ideal. read more

Went to Cosmo to try out the buffet on a weekday for lunch. To start with I was pretty exited about the variety of options available from Chinese to Indian and Italian to American and not to mention the desserts. But the excitement was short lived. The options were enormous but none of them were anywhere near to even being average when it came to taste. Also I found a lot of issues with the way things were presented and the overall cleanliness with food lying all over the place and one item getting mixed with the other. Maybe the staff need to be more watchful about the counters as there are so many people just getting heaps of food and messing them up. I would say you can go and try for a one time experience but I don't think I shall visit the place again. read more

For the price, this is a bargain. There is a wide variety of food from Mexican, to Chinese to Indian and so on. One of the only problems is that there are too many things that look tempting. There is also a good selection of vegetarian options available. My only real complaint is the system they have for drinks. You get seated by someone who takes your drink order, then someone else brings the glasses and you fill them up at the drink machine. It's a slow system but it's a minor quibble. read more

Our first impressions of the restaurant was very good, the 20 minute queue for it did not deter us as there was a certain buzz surrounding the restaurant. However, I could not have been more wrong. Firstly, the waitress was abrupt and did not have a pleasant demeanour whatsoever. We were however excited to see what was on offer, the food offered was just typical of what one could buy in any standard Chinese takeaway at a much cheaper price. It tasted frozen and standard of any Chinese restaurant, and the desserts on offer would have been more suited to an Iceland aisle. To top it all off, the waiter dealing with our bill was extremely rude and audibly sighed when I asked to split the bill and pay with my card. I tried here for the first time, yesterday. And I just wanted to set up shop and never leave. Oh sweet lord above it was delicious! £13 for the all you can eat buffet - nom-tastic!!! I had a Chinese plate and Indian plate and a big plate of Eaton Mess (which may not look all that, but it was delicious!) on my way out I discovered the carvery station, so next time I'm going to try that. The food was hot hot hot, which is nice for a buffet, the selection is huge and there's surely something for everyone and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Chose to go here over Prezzo on Monday evening and boy that was a regret. Was looking for somewhere for a nice meal due to the hunger pains of dandering around shops all day and ended up choosing here as it was somewhere that the food was ready straight away and fixed at 1 price. The first thing was that it was busy...Monday evening...BUNGED. Was told by the receptionist that there would be a maximum wait of 30 mins which seems bad but after sitting on a seat in the reception for no more than 10 mins, we were on our way to our seats. I know it's a buffet and there's usual no high expectation, but some foods were just too cold for my liking, even after sitting under a hot light and in a bain-marie. Prices were nothing to complain about but I won't be in a rush back even if it is for a quick bite before a Giants match. All in all I've learnt my lesson. read more

This place has gone up in my ratings since I was last here a few years ago. It is now much cleaner and tidy and the staff are pleasant. Good range of food. Though some can be quite cold. The best thing I tasted was the smoked chicken. And also the thick noodles they can make you at the Chinese cooking station. Are you a large group out for a big feed? Then Cosmo is right up your street. Looking for somewhere for a table for 2 and a chat over some nice food? Then walk on past. Cosmo is grand if you can't decide what you fancy having to eat or need to take a group of kids somewhere before the cinema. There's a lunch buffet for £7.99/£9.99 (depending on which day you visit) and dinner buffet which has more option for £13.99 / £15.99 (again, price is dependant on weekday/ weekend etc). It's probably one of the best buffet places in Belfast but I find when you go somewhere that does EVERYTHING it's rare you'll find ANY dish outstanding. There's everything from sushi to a full roast lamb dinner, refillable soft drinks and cocktails if you so wished. I went here the other night for my nieces 13th birthday. It's a great idea for restaurant, buffet style with a huge selection of dishes. It's fantastic for kids and those who are picky eaters as there is something for everyone. The place is fairly big size and it was really busy when we were there, so they'd have no problems accommodating big parties. The food was tasty but there's a couple of things that sort of put me off. 1) it was manic, I prefer to enjoy my food in a nice relaxed atmosphere and be waited on hand and foot. 2) the food was spread over such a large area that I ended up missing things I'd maybe have liked to try. Maybe the should have a mini map on the table showing the layout? And finally 3) I'm sure it's grand but I worry about the sanitary aspect of so many people dipping in and out of dishes. I have eaten here on several occasions and I would highly recommend it! First trip was with work (16 of us) and it was fantastic. Every taste was catered for vegan, vegetarian, coeliac and meat lovers alike. Also on my trips with just my partner we received the same service as the groups present so no complaints there. The starter bar has a selection of salads, cheeses, cold meats along with dim sum, spring rolls and other specials on the night. I sampled the thai, chinese and asian dishes with none disappointing me. I particularly enjoyed the ginger and spring onion king prawns. A few in our group also had the steak to order and had nothing but compliments for it. The desert bar is one of the many other good points this restaurant has to offer with shot glass size portions so you can taste a few without feeling like a savage! For 13.99 all you can eat this is not only value for money but great quality food too. I would recommend booking about 2 weeks in advance to avoid a long wait though! read more

Had a meal here last night and it was my first time attending the buffet restaurant that I keep hearing so much about it! The setting was lovely and Victoria Square as a whole is really pretty - the glass flooring is amazing! The place was really clean and the staff were very attentive,taking our drink order straight away and explaining how the buffet worked. There is a choice of Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Italian. Sushi and Cavern to choose from as well as Desserts. To start,Indian had spring rolls which were cold. Tasty, but cold. The onion rings were the same. Wish they had been warm (and we arrived very close to the opening time). The salt and chilli chips were the highlight though - so tasty and warm!! I was hoping for an Indian curry main but the selection offered wasn't that exciting and nothing grabbed my attention. I went for noodles and chilli & honey chicken was was DELICIOUS!! Loved my main!! For dessert,I tried the Eton mess which was lovely as was the strawberry ice cream There was a great section of cakes, crumbles and a chocolate fountain as well but I was good, haha! I didn't take advantage of the buffet as much as perhaps I should have. I think it's a great place to visit if you aren't sure what you fancy, but it's not great. For being an "all you can eat" the quality is not bad. Try the carvers meats as they are cooked fresh in front of you. The Sushi section isn't great but there's loads of other things to choose from. Mostly Indian and Chinese selections. The desserts are not good but the chocolate fountain is popular. The worst thing is the customers, you are surrounded by people food piling and only tasting a tiny bit and pushing the plates away and going for more. It's disgusting the food wastage. Tremendously awful. This place is deceptive -- the popularity/wait time, lofty price, food variety, and stylish decor make one think as though they've entered a favorable situation, but as soon as the food hits your mouth, the despair becomes clear. When we finally got our table upstairs, we were hit by a wave of obnoxiously loud electronic house music which played relentlessly all evening. It seems like the manager must have put this in place to dupe people into thinking that this is a hip, fun, lively environment, but amidst the bad taste of food and general chaos of the busy restaurant, it's clearly just a ploy. Every plate we tried was low-quality, dry from being under the heat lamps, or bland (or over-flavored). The dessert area was a mess - old, soggy marshmallows floating in the chocolate fountain, and sticky brown chocolate all over the counter for the entirety of the evening. The places that were cleaned by the staff must have been wiped up using an ultra-potent abrasive cleaner, which was reminiscent of a bathroom and left a public restroom smell in my nostrils all evening. If you enjoy being fed as if you were a pig at a trough, this is your place. If you can get into the new batch of below-average Chinese food schlopped on top of the old batch from two hours ago, you'll love Cosmos. If self-resentment and shame after a meal is something you enjoy, eat here. If you enjoy asking the waiter where the salad bar is and having him reply, "I have no idea, man," then this is your place. read more

Can't fault the freshness and tastiness of the food - everything seems to be topped up or changed out regularly and the stuff cooked freshly in front of you is lovely, especially the scallops. Unfortunately for a larger group it's not the most social experience, everyone is up and down constantly and its hard to hear yourself think over the loud music blasting out never mind having a conversation! Cosmo is great for large groups, who can't decide which cuisine to settle on. Its a good buffett style restaurant with something for everyone. Dress well and don't bring kids is my advice. This establishment has improved much since my last visit when it opened, and has options for everyone. Avoid this place when its early dinner hours as you will find that about 100 ''yummy mummys'' and their screaming children have invaded the place; but go there when the time is right and it's a great place for a cocktail jug and a large apetite. Often people complain the wait is long but honestly if you don't bring your kids and their friends or have your kids behave well you find that it's a good time and not too long of a wait. The sushi here could be improved but the variety of other japanese food options make up for that, and with all the other oriental delicasys tasting great (I tried atleast something from every location except the pizza area.) it's a wonderful place to be. I ADORE the desserts, and the drinks are really a treat, they make some really great cocktails and have beer options from all over the world. This evening a small party of six ate at the Cosmo restaurant in Belfast's Victoria Square. According to their own website, "COSMO, is a critically acclaimed Pan Asian restaurant chain that's opening restaurants all over the UK. The secret of our success is providing delicious freshly prepared food in stunning restaurants and prices that offer exceptional value for money." Delicious Food There is a wide variety of food available from many cultures around the world with a particular emphasis unsurprisingly to Asia. They are always looking for more recipes from China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Mongolia, Singapore, Vietnam, and India. The food served this evening was very good and there was plenty of it. Stunning restaurant? Personally, I am not so sure that the restaurant in Victoria Square could be called stunning. It was certainly very pleasant but stunning this evening was not the word that I would use. There was a wait of about forty-five minutes in the lobby downstairs before reaching the table which we were then told we were to vacate by at least 8.30p.m. The party made their several ways to and from the food which is laid out in many buffet areas. Some of us went up more than once per section of meal. The desserts were particularly fun including the jelly cubes. Rushed over indulgence Overall, whilst I enjoyed the food, the overall ambience was as one of our party put it, a cross between an airport departure lounge and a food court in a shopping mall. With the time limit on the table, and the unlimited food that can be eaten, I found myself wanting to eat really quickly each time that I got back from the buffet. The price of £13.99 was not that much more than we would be prepared to pay for food in another local restaurant. Almost as soon as you finish the food on one plate, it is whisked away by the almost ever-present army of waiting staff. This encourages you to head up again and pick more food. I've come home, having enjoyed the food but not the experience or ambience of dining in Cosmo. I'm glad that I have done it, but it is not going to become a frequent haunt. Visiting Belfast and my wife made reservations here 2 weeks in advance and a good thing too, the wait if we hadn't was about an hour. When you get seated, you have your table for 2 hours, all you can eat for then. It's huge, with every kind of Asian cuisine you could ask for, as well as some English, Italian, and Mexican dishes. The desert selections were amazing (cakes, jellies, chocolate fountain, puddings, custard, Eaton Mess, etc.) and there's a made-to-order sushi bar and grilled meat on demand. The seafood in particular was amazing, as buffet seafood tends to have that grey, bland, mushy-fishy taste to it from sitting out, but the shrimp, fish, and squid were incredible! My only nit-pick, if I was pressed to think of one, is that it's crowded so a bit noisy and there were some little kids running around, getting in the way. Drinks are fill-it-yourself, or you can visit the full bar on the other end. My in-laws raved about Cosmo and I'm so glad I got to experience it for myself. Went here for lunch today and really enjoyed it. If you intend to go here it is worth while to pre book a table. Big of selection of Chinese and Indian food, pizzas, pastas and desserts. On the pizza section there was a gentleman making fresh pizza from scratch constantly and they were really tasty. At the buffet section I seen food being refilled regularly Toilets were absolutely spotless. Staff were friendly and regularly cleared our table. I was there with a group of 12 people and when our bill came,we were charged a "discretionary service charge" of approx £8. As the whole set up of here is self service, including drinks, at our discretion we decided not to pay this. However when we went to pay the bill we were told we had to pay this additional charge and that actually it wasn't really discretionary. We were there for a celebration lunch and didn't want to make a fuss and put a dampner on the lovely afternoon we had had so just paid it. However if I went here again I would not pay this for serving myself my meal and drink read more

In fairness to Cosmo the once I ate there the food was actually quite tasty. I would give the food itself 3 stars and there's a good selection of every type of cuisine including Chinese, Indian, Italian and traditional English. I just hate the concept of self service/buffet type restaurants, especially when they're as large and busy as Cosmo. It feels like a huge, noisy, horrible school canteen. You stand and wait behind people while they decide if they want to try a dish. All the while they are poking, prodding, peering at and breathing over the food. By now of course, you've decided you don't want that dish after all! There's a lot of this as Cosmo is extremely busy. The desserts had been completely decimated by the time I got to them and just looked yuck. It's also a very rushed type of meal, as staff quickly clear away plates immediately as soon as you've eaten the last mouthful. Not a place for a relaxed, leisurely meal. It's a thoroughly unpleasant experience and one I won't be repeating. It is cheap however and probably suits families with kids who might like the novelty of trying so many different cuisines and serving themselves. It's just not a place I personally like. read more
