I had a lovely experience here yesterday morning for a HIIT Pilates class…read more First, I want to say that the branding and social media of the studio is excellent and definitely gave me genuine and welcoming vibes before I even step foot inside. There seem to be a good variety of classes and I was excited to take this morning one. I was greeted warmly by the instructor who had me fill out a waiver, and showed me the cubbies where I could store my belongings and the free water station. I grew to feel even more welcomed, just being in the space as she was so friendly, and the aesthetics were very warm, lit by the yellow neon lights. I also noticed a kids play area which is a thoughtful touch. The studio itself was beautiful with a large mirror and windows for plenty of natural light. There were small cork blocks, 3lb weights, Pilates circles, and stretching straps available. The class moved rhythmically, with the instructor clearly demoing each move and sequence then going around the room to encourage and adjust. It was such a relaxing, yet engaging way to start my day, especially paired with afro beats like Kaytranada and ALUNA in the background. Afterwards, we could spray and clean our props used. Mats were free my first time but I believe are for rent afterwards so bring your own and come try a class here!

The professional dancer may not be challenged, but the choreography is set where you can add your flourishes if you want to spice it up. It's a very clean and serene space. It's currently on ClassPass but I'm sure you can book a drop in class. Not sure the price on that. I look forward to taking more classes as an amateur dancer who just wants to move and get some blood flowing.

Trust me, I have done them all (except for Crossfit because that s--- looks like a good way to tear something and spend the next five years in pain before you have to have surgery) Anyway, I started Kristen's classes in 2011 and thought I was walking into a normal yoga class. NO! I WAS WRONG AND IT WAS THE BEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!! Kristen's class feels like going to a club and dancing all your stress out with your friends for hours (its actually like 1.5 hours) but you didn't have to buys crappy drinks with Red Bull to get the dance frenzy going. This class is great cardio. For my BFF's bachelorette party, all the bridesmaids went a YBB/ DISKQUO to get the party started! (Party ended with my face in some pumpkin flavored waffles, so it all balanced out) Going to a dance class sounds intimidating... But I have followed Kristen two three studios. Why? Because the moves are very easy to follow and you kinds just lose yourself. Also, no one in the class is a mini Baryshnikov, so I extol you... GO!!!! DANCE WITH THE SPIRIT OF MICHAEL FLATLY INSIDE YOU!* GET RID OF YOUR BLAHS! GET YOUR DANCE! ON DANCE! DAAAAHHHNCE! *Apparently, the lord of the dance had a few illegitimate children which were the subject of some interesting court cases. No pun was intended. DANCE!

And I have not stopped going ever since. For the second time this May, I had a YBB Birthday with Kristen and 11 of my friends. She let me customize the entire Missy Elliot-themed playlist. Nearly all of my friends were newbies to dance and at the end they all told me what a great workout it was and how much fun they had moving to the music! It's such a fun and different experience to share with your friends and loved ones. What inspires me most is that Kristen is both a teacher and student of life. She is always exploring new endeavors that inspire the spirit - which in turn enriches her classes. Lately she has been exploring sound therapy. So at the end of each YBB class she'll do a mini soundbath/sound healing. You leave feeling re-connected, refreshed and relaxed. It's one of those things you have to experience in person so I encourage you to check it out in person if you are curious. I am so grateful for the beautiful community she creates with her classes. It's a place to reflect and connect. A manifestation of that little piece of joy just waiting for you each week.

Really disappointing experience. We booked private lessons for our wedding first dance and paid…read more$180 per lesson for custom choreography. The first lesson was fine, but the second was extremely frustrating because Solange appeared to have done essentially no choreography preparation beforehand. She was figuring out the choreography during the lesson itself: listening to the song, suggesting a movement, trying it with us, realizing it didn't work, and then starting over with something else. There was no prepared choreography for us to learn and refine. After a full $180 lesson, we had learned about 28 seconds of choreography, and 23 of those seconds were literally a basic box step repeated for 48 counts. It was an extremely basic step, not something we expected to spend most of a private custom-choreography lesson learning. When we raised this with the owner, the explanations kept changing. First, we were told the lesson wasn't entered correctly in the system, so Solange couldn't prepare. Then we were told she had prepared in advance. Then we were told she couldn't prepare because we supposedly hadn't told her how long we wanted the song to be. That was simply not true. From the beginning, we repeatedly told Solange we wanted to use the song through the second drop, with a dramatic lift and fireworks at that point. She repeatedly pushed back on this during both lessons, saying first dances shouldn't be longer than a minute. We had also been very clear that we wanted modern, dramatic choreography with leans, dips, and lifts, yet very little of what we asked for was incorporated. The lack of preparation was disappointing enough, but the contradictory explanations afterward and claims about things we supposedly said that never happened made the experience much worse. We would not book here again.

In the month that I practiced at Daya, it quickly became my favorite yoga studio. I enjoyed every…read moresingle teacher that I had, they are committed to providing yoga in a diverse and safe environment, they make it a space where you can practice freely and not only do they make sure you get a good work out, more importantly, they get that yoga is used as a tool for growth, relaxing, and just feeling better by the end of a class. They have fun! I was able to get 4 weeks of yoga for $40, which is an amazing deal. Many of the other studios in the area have the same deal. I mostly took evening classes, vinyasa, lunar vinyasa, candlelight lunar yoga with live music (highly recommend) and yin yoga. All of these classes were great! I did take one inversion workshop and a Hatha class. Each class is opened by going around the room, introducing yourself and saying how your day was or what you looking for. They also ask if you have injuries, which is important. Across the board, the classes start slowly with some deep breathing and warming up the breath but they do speed up. I liked how each teacher tried to focus on something, whether that be the core or grounding. It showed that the teachers and classes were diverse in their practice and was never bored, even after going to a class with the same teacher five times. I recommend the Hatha class. That was so challenging but I felt like my practice improved imensly after that class. I didn't get to go to a class with every teacher, but my favorite teachers were Carmina, Linnea, Kiersten, Lisette, Kevin, and Ania. I am sure all the other teachers are great too. Located on Jefferson, Daya takes up a warehouse space, which is huge. There is a seating area, where you can take off your shoes, check-in, get some water, or just chill until your next class. There is always tea and water available. The first studio, along with being for class, is also used as an office and little shop filled with holistic goods. The area where the class takes place is great with a shrine, plants, singing bowls, etc. There are plenty of props and you can rent a mat for $2. The bathroom is also located in this space. The second studio is way bigger and is where mats are stored, there is a bathroom, piano, plants, etc. Daya also seconds as an acupuncture clinic but this is separate from the yoga. If I didn't move, I would definitely get a membership to Daya!

It was a nice icebreaker to get to know everyone. The class was not too intense but definitely strength exercises, breathing, and typical yoga moves. A great balance of everything. I haven't been to a yoga class in a couple years and I wasn't struggling. When you enter your right in the studio itself. Mats and anything you'll need is provided. I didn't use the bathroom, but I presume they have one. I'm not sure if I saw a water fountain so I would suggest bringing your own water bottle in case.
