Excellent restaurant option within the Montage Big Sky resort which has a cozy ambiance with mountainside views. We started with the smoked arctic char which came with gluten free (gf) seed crackers and roe. The char was extremely flakey and fall apart tender. Everyone's entrees came out shortly after and we had zero complaints other than the risotto being too salty. The staff graciously offered to rectify straight away by remaking, offering another dish, etc. Stand out would be the veal tenderloin which was tightly wrapped in prosciutto and came with seasonal veggies. Service is outstanding and thoughtful from start to finish. Examples include pulling out the chair for me to sit, offering to make dishes gf where possible due to my allergy, consistently refilling drinks, clearing table between appetizers and main course and bringing fresh cutlery/plates. For the wine connoisseurs, they have an extensive wine menu (basically a book honestly) and even have a sommelier on premise. read more

Excellent dinner and breakfast spot at the Montage. All the dishes were good, but a tad on the saltier side. Dinner service was fantastic as our waiter was very attentive and helpful; breakfast can be a hit or miss depending on how busy they get. Valet parking over at the Montage Food- 4.5 stars Grilled Venison loin- this was perfectly done. Not too salty; perfect balance with the sauce to really accent the fresh elk taste without being too gamey branzino- very well done as well. perfect balance of all the flavors with the vegetables and fruit added pork porterhouse- this was delicious as well. I did like the venison better because the pork did get a bit dry at parts because of how large the cut was beef tartare- really well done and an excellent starter bolognese- pretty good as well caesar salad- excellent presentation, but it did get a bit salty dessert- they had a raspberry mousse dessert and a chocolate peanut butter bar. both were excellent, but I really liked the raspberry dessert because of how balanced it was Service- 5 stars Food came out quickly and the servers and bartenders were really attentive. I can't even express how amazing this food was. Definitely one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Everything we had was the best we have ever had. Service was great and the restaurant has beautiful views. Sourdough bread tasted like they just baked it and it comes with whipped butter that is just so good. My kids split the half chicken and pasta, which I had as well. We all agreed it was the best we have ever had. I don't know what they do to the chicken but it is just insanely delicious. My husband had the branzino and he also said it was the best one he has ever had. Now to finish, we had the tiramisu. There are no words to describe how amazing it was. While skiing at Big Sky, we stayed at the Montage hotel within the Spanish Peaks Mountain Club. The ski-in, ski-out lounge was incredibly convenient--I never had to lug my skis and boots anywhere. Our favorite spot in the hotel was Cantina, where the cocktails crafted by the friendly bartender, Peter, were absolutely top-notch--some of the best I've ever had. The house-made pasta, fresh salads, and warm hospitality made dining there a delight. Mornings were just as enjoyable, with delicious and healthy breakfasts, mimosas, green juices, and an extensive wine collection. The ambiance is excellent, the service was OK, the server forgot to bring one of the dinners, we sat and waited and the found someone and let them know we were missing a dinner, the server had completely forgot! We have gone to Cortina since it first opened. It was excellent when it first opened but now has gone down hill. The portions were so small they weren't even a spoonful with your main dish. You couldn't even tell what you were eating is was such a small portion. There was literally three very small pieces of carrot. Very disappointing. read more

Service and ambiance were great! No fault to the employees, but the FOOD was NOT good. We ordered the chef specials (branzino and veal) plus a side of pasta. I've never been one to notice a food temperature, but it all came out cold? The veal wasn't terrible, but again... cold. The branzino was very fishy and lacking flavor. Usually not one to write a review like this, but I think we were disappointed with the food quality in comparison to the pricing. Came in w/a large table of 11 for a birthday dinner. The reception was very friendly when making the reservation. The restaurant and views are amazing. Service and food was 5 star. They even all signed a birthday card for our friend and came out with a special dessert. Cons: Another large table had some loud toddlers, which was a bit noisy. With a table of 11, we had to sit at two neighboring tables vs one big table to avoid having to eat off of a family style menu - I wish this couldve been avoided, but we made it work. ( they seem to work staff back to back shifts) This young man is beyond exceptional!. He gets 5 stars! He was not so obsequious as most of the staff are trained to be. Our interaction with him made our meals more enjoyable and,as mentioned, the food is above good but not memorable. Thank you,Robert, for making our meals memorable and personal! He actually was called in on his time off to fill in for evening service having just done breakfast service with us earlier , and he came to our dinner table to check in even though he wasn't our assigned person! Our server was absolutely outstanding! He was knowledgeable of the menu and so polished. The burrata had to be the best I've had since I was in Italy! And truly the same goes for the pasta. The last I enjoyed authentic Italian pasta was in Rome. These chefs do such a wonderfully job. Every day is a celebration at Cortina, it was the perfect place for my mother's birthday. My veal cutlet was served on the bone and was delightful. I did find myself wanting more lemon or sauce, as the breading was perfectly crispy but just needed a little extra something. As the main restaurant at the Montage, this is not a restaurant that's yet on the map of Big Sky, but certainly starting to get there. It has a pleasant design with tall ceilings and cozy seating. When it comes to Breakfast experiences, on busy days, Cortina offers a buffet for guests priced at $58 and an enhanced A-La-Carte menu on the days when buffet is not available due to limited guest capacity. The Turkey eggs Benedict is prepared in a very classic fashion and was executed well. Avocado toast has some wonderful bread that is clearly freshly baked and tastes spectacular. Potatoes are very well done. The huevos rancheros was not executed particularly well, with the dish being very heavily dominated by the sauce, throwing the balance a bit off. Despite that, it was tasty, but almost impossible to finish the volume of sauce relative to other ingredients. When it comes to the buffet, selections are fairly basic for the price that it costs and frankly, I would not recommend that option. Aside from the usual bacon and potatoes, the buffet does have croissants and an omelette station, so basics are covered at a five star hotel level, but that's about it. It is far from buffets at some of the other resorts of this caliber and cost just as much. A La Carte is much better both value and quality wise. Dinner was also very well executed, from the filet mignon to the bison tartare and trout. One of the best things here are the staff, like Katie and Manish, who went above and beyond. With that said, on one of the days where the hotel was at higher occupancy, the team really struggled to cover the tables and was majorly understaffed. Thus, I fear how they will be able to handle the load in the rapidly approaching ski season. Lastly, I have to highlight the platters and pottery. Clean presentation on all dishes, with some being served in gorgeous Staub dishes, with even the coffee being poured into Jono Pandolfi pottery. Such details really do make a difference. Cortina is an excellent spot for being fairly new. Aside from suggestions above, it would be nice to see some additional selections to highlight the terroir of Montana, such as a better steak selection, bison and elk. Perhaps some mountain berries and plants consumed by indigenous populations. While it is an Italian restaurant, it's identity is already fairly confused: very little of it is actually Italian and my humble opinion is that an upscale Italian restaurant is not what most of the guests would want coming to Montana anyways. Italian spots are a dime a dozen in big cities where most of the guests arrive from, so not only does it mean the standard has to be higher, but experiencing a high end variant of Montana dining and ingredients would be much more interesting to me personally. read more

Really surprised and disappointed. Supposed to be a very upscale place, but unfortunately not on many levels. Started with an 8 pm reservation that did not seat us until just after 8:30 pm (as we sat at the bar and saw another party our size get seated at 8:15). Ordered wine, that clearly had 'turned'. When we told our waiter, his response was (believe it or not) "yes, we've been having problems with this bottle." Yet it was served to us. Food was marginal to abysmal. $130 Wagyu rib ribeye arrived well done (asked for medium rare). When replaced was still a solid medium. Conversely, beef tenderloin arrived raw inside (requested medium rare) and after sent back, came back less than 5 mins, still raw in parts. Suspect it was microwaved. Finished it off with a mint chocolate chip gelato that had freezer burn and was grainy to taste. Buyer beware. Have been here (Big Sky) a week so far, and have otherwise had superb meals! read more
