My friend and I reserved a table for opening night under the new ownership and we were not disappointed! We had the Spinach Dip appetizer which we almost inhaled! So creamy and just the right amount of shredded cheese. Yum! Served with bread, red pepper and carrot slices. Gluten free bread for me and regular bread for my friend. A delicious herb and balsamic infused oil came with the bread. For the main course I had the (huge) Pork Chop with asparagus and mushrooms/onions on the side. It was cooked to perfection- slightly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Perfectly seasoned, no need to pick up the salt shaker! My friend had Chicken Piccata with string beans and whipped potatoes. She said the chicken was a tad dry, but didn't ruin the dish (hence the 5 stars!), and the flavor of the sauce was excellent. The service was excellent - everyone worked together and very friendly yet professional. Our order was delivered in a timely manner. For their first night I'd say they hit it out of the park. To find the bistro, look for the bowling alley. This bistro is connected to the Ennis Fish Bowl. Your next thought is like mine, a Bistro and a Bowling Alley?? We thought why not give it a try. The Bistro has plenty of seating in the main dining and also additional seating in the back alley. The decor is rustic homely feeling with tons of wood. The employees were all super nice and willing to answer any questions. We stopped in for dinner and started with the deep fried pickles. The pickles were spears with a bland breading unfortunately. You will want to use the Ranch to help out. For dinner we ordered the Beef Pot Roast and the daily special of Penne Pasta with Sausage and Peppers. The Pot Roast had homemade potatoes (we believe) and a good amount of beef. The plate lacked seasoning and I would recommend requesting more gravy to help out. The Penne pasta dinner lacked seasoning other than the sausage. If you can get a bit of sausage in each bite, this plate is great! While visiting this area of Montana we looked for a place to have lunch and came across Alley Bistro. I looked at their webpage and the food looked good as did the ambiance. Upon arriving we were a bit disappointed that we had to order at the counter. I then ordered smoked trout which looked great. I was told they don't have that. I said that's a shame I had just seen it on their webpage. The lady at the counter then informed me their webpage is very old and has not been updated. Wonderful. In short, the food was ok, the ambiance was fair and the lady was friendly but we had to ask for silverware, then napkins and she never came by our table to check on us. If in the area again we will not visit here again. read more

We are staying in Ennis on our way home to Oregon. It was past 7pm and we were starving. I looked on Yelp for suggestions. The Alley bistro was highly rated and a excellent choice! My husband and I started with the " shrimp cargot" It was excellent, the garlic bread it's served with is a great match. We spilt a pizza, again it was very tasty. For dessert the huckleberry pie was suggested. Wow. A perfect way to end a wonderful meal. Paige was our waitress and she went out of her way to help us along with a ton of questions about Montana. To go order: Facebook showing restaurant closed although phone message said dinner hours were 4pm to 8pm I started trying to place an order at 4:30pm. Someone finally answered at 5:35pm. Shrimp basket.....shrimp extremely over cooked. Very, very dry. Fries coated with a season salt of some sort - a lot of it! Cocktail sauce was as thick as jello, couldn't be 'dipped' in - very gelatinous. Grinder sandwich was prepared as ordered, again tons of seasoning on the fries. Side salad had small bits of blue cheese in it, (accidentally it seemed). One customer cannot tolerate blue cheese so salad couldn't be shared as planned. Cheesecake flavor available not what was listed on the menu published to the Facebook page just this morning. Bummer. Being a to-go order I couldn't have anything corrected/remade, so it was edible. Disappointing to say the least. With the limited # of restaurants in our community & even a smaller # open on Tuesday - there should be extreme effort put into orders being prepared correctly. After a day of fly fishing, we were tired and hungry. The Alley Bistro got good Yelp reviews, so we decided to try it. The restaurant shares a building with a bowling alley just outside town. Regardless, we could not hear the alley noise from the dining room, which was was very comfortable, with cozy lighting and everything looked quite new. Our server Lacey was charming and attentive. We needed to rehydrate and she made sure we had as much iced tea as we could drink. I had the excellent halibut tacos, with homemade chips (oh my!!) and my husband had a small salad with huckleberry vinaigrette and an excellent burger. Drove into town late, tired and hungry, and not expecting much. But we were so fantastically surprised! We started with the smoked trout appetizer that came with a creamy lemon infused spread, and for entrees, boyfriend had the pork loin with tomato ginger curry and super fragrant basmati rice, and I started with a cup of smoked chicken soup with wild rice and ended with a salad topped with perfectly cooked medium rare steak that pulled apart simply at the sight of a knife. Everything was so incredibly delicious! It was clear that the dishes are well thought out, because all the flavors in each dish were so perfectly balanced. And the cherry on top was our very lovely and uber sweet server, Margot, who gave great recommendations and provided impeccable service. We'll definitely be making this a must stop the next time we make the trek to Ennis from the west coast! read more

2/19/20 as we sat at home trying to decide what we should do for dinner. Our kids begging for pizza, and it getting late we decided to drive down the block to this local restaurant! We arrive at 7:16pm. We were greeted by two waitstaff and guessing what was two host. We were immediately seated and given menus and water. We were told our waitress would be right with us. We sat for a while watching waitstaff run food, but as we sat there no one ever came to check on us! We watched a family walk in be seated, served food, and enjoy their meal all while still no waitress! Watching waitresses and hostess behind the counter while our kids sat waiting patiently for service! At 8:01pm we decided enough was enough and got up from our table! Turns out there was a manager there as well setting and observing the wait staff and hostess, but we had never seen her till we decided it was time to leave! We made our exit known! This place also does a take out service for pizza, where on Tuesdays it is 2 medium pizzas with two toppings for $22.00. We like to take part in the deal and have 100's of times yet here lately in the last 6 months we have been told we cannot order a cheese pizza with this deal, yet we have been doing this for the last couple years! We are not asking for anything special, like the two topping to be added to our other pizza, we just want a two topping and a cheese pizza with the deal! My mom put on post on her Facebook page letting her friends know of her very disappointing experience, and this morning I get a message from one of the waitresses via facebook telling me to make my mom take down the post and if not she will be contacting the authorities! 1st this is on my moms page, I can pass the message on but surely I will not be forcing my mom to remove her post about our unpleasant experience. 2nd do not threaten me with authorities!!! 3rd maybe the wait staff should have done their job! We sat there so long that the rest of the restaurants in town were closed, but with two hungry kids we still had to do something for dinner! If this is a place you would like to try I would suggest if it is between the months of May and October that you plan on making a reservation as I have been turned away for not having a reservation! And my best suggestion would be to order food to go and take it home/back to the hotel! read more

Who would have thought the best pot roast I've ever had would come from the small town of Ennis, Montana! We are driving through to Yellowstone and stopped to stay the night here to avoid the high hotel prices. The Alley Bistro had delicious food, I tried my husband's cheesesteak and it was great too! So when we asked the folks at Benjie's where the best place to eat in Ennis was and their first suggestion was the bowling alley, we were a little skeptical. But we were hungry so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is next door to the bowling alley and owned by the same family, but it is a lovely restaurant with a shiny new and unpretentious decor and delicious affordable gourmet food. We were delighted to note that there was no alley noise coming through the walls so we could enjoy a peaceful romantic meal. The owner checked in with us to make sure we had enjoyed our meal. The halibut steak on the bed of purple rice was fresh and delicious with a sauce complex enough to give the entree some depth. The purple rice was a wonderful and new taste treat for me. My husband had the pork shanks and they were as delicious as advertised. Crunchy on the outside and succulent on the inside. If you ever have the opportunity to be in Ennis and grab a bite, enjoy the food at the Alley Bistro. Food tastes fairly good BUT first thing was the price. I had Mongolian beef special; no price was listed. I was flabbergasted at the $28 price when the bill came. Our pizza's averaged $26 each which is again, outrageous. Then another person had fish tacos.... $19! To add insult to injury, they charge you 3% of the bill to use your card. Great atmosphere. Great service. Our meals were quickly prepared and hit the spot. I had the pulled pork. Sauce was a bit too peppery for my liking but the pork (local, I think!) was fantastic. Coleslaw was weak. Tossed salad with huckleberry dressing was perfect - classic iceberg and cherry tomato. Also ordered the garlic cheese toast for an app and I'd do that again too. We are here every few years for a family reunion. There are over 100 of us and they close the place for us. The pizzas are amazing! The varieties are so wide ranging!
