When you open a business that deals with children you have a great responsibility. Behavior has to be filtered. As an owner and teacher you should hold high standards for the young. Instead you degrade and use words and statements that are inappropriate and harmful to a young soul. I can appreciate teaching discipline but when you as the owner don't have that same discipline to control your words of cruelty, all respect is lost. And there is no respect for favoritism amongst the kids. The kids are aware and that teaches prejudice. Shame on you. No parent should ever join this academy. My daughter started with CDA when she was 3. She took a break for a while but we are back at CDA because of how amazing they are. The owner is amazing and the staff is fantastic. If you are beginner your child will be taught professionally and fun, or if you are advanced dancer, you should see their comp team. We liked how classical the environment was, and how the school could keep a good moral code of ethics while keeping the young children engaged and interested in doing their best. After 9 years of attending, my daughter still attends classes (now daily), and we could not be more pleased with her progress as a ballet dancer and as a young girl being encouraged by her instructors to be her best. I love this dance school! Everyone is so pleasant and professional. Rosemary is an amazing hands-on instructor. She teaches smart and has helpers to model for the children. She is strict and no nonsense (to the parents too). It's really refreshing because I want my child to be disciplined and with manners. Don't waste your time or money on this place. The owner is so controlling and manipulative not to mention a narcissist. She tries to make it look and sound like it's all about the kids when the reality is, it's all about the money. She doesn't care about the kids and it shows soon after you get settled in. This studio had revolving doors, so many talented students come and go every year. Once you see their true colors and question anything, they will ask you to leave and not care if you ever come back. I don't like to complain about thing and give local business bad reviews, however I created yelp just to advised/warn new dancers/students/parents joining the academy. I won't and would rather not disclose myself, but my kid was a dancer with CDA since she was little. She pretty much grew up with CDA. As she was progressing, she became more and more talented, it was great we saw her talent was really growing, not just my kid but other kids as well. It was more of quality than quantity until management (director) changed. CDA becomes more about money than your kid(s) talent. If you don't provide enough funds, or a baller or maybe even carries a Louis Vuitton or take "additional private classes", your kid is not worth anything, in other words your kids won't be YAGP or competition worthy. First let me start of by saying something about the "art director", she wants her kids to shine bright like a diamond (now who wouldn't want their kids to shine), no other kids would get recognized unless if they are not taking any private lessons with the art director or her kids. Art director kids are so called Elite or the chosen one because they are all part of YAGP, and these girls pretty much pick and choose who they wants to compete in the competition or part of YAGP (someone who has heavy pockets), again quantity over quality. From my knowledge, YAGP has certain age groups, and in order for art director girl's to perform art director picked someone who had no talent and didn't even compete in half of the competition due to her injury (this is not a false statement, it's a fact), (if reader doubt this fact ask around you would know who I'm talking about), and she picked her due to heavy pocket. It's the same group who compete in competitions and in YAGP, after that every other kid is just a statistic. Now there is nothing wrong with private lessons, but having to pay hundreds of dollars to the same person and dancer is still sitting on ground zero, it's no brainer. Don't take my worth for it, ask around and some won't speak how come half of the academy competition team left to another local academy. Again my intend is not to harm, but intend to advised/warn new recruiter. I'd rather be part of an organization where I'm valued than a statistic. read more

We were a long-time CDA family...our daughter danced there recreationally and competitively for several years. The owners boast about it being "all about the children," but sadly it really isn't. The owners are negative, cold, and cruel....to the dancers, their employees, and the parents. I witnessed it with my own eyes and ears too many times over the years, and it came time for is to leave this last year. They have wonderful teachers, and we were sad to leave them. However, the owners set the tone for the environment there. It became a negative and unhealthy studio, and we left with many other dancers in search for a positive environment. My daughter, who is 3 going on 4, has been attending ballet here for a few months now. She absolutely enjoys it. She looks forward to her lessons with Ms. Rosemary. Even though she is a little girl, they don't just play around. They still focus on teaching techniques, at an age appropriate level. I have gone to ballet schools before where the toddler classes are just fun and games. Not here. It's still fun with pretty flowers and tutus and princess music, but still geared towards preparing them for the higher level ballet. I look forward to continuing her lessons here. read more

I had no complaints up until now. Although I have always heard through the grapevine that the owner, Rosemary, is not who she "appears to be," I have never believed it until now. I witnessed her yelling at a parent. She was belligerent and told the parent that her children had no real talent and that no other studio would accept them. Not only did I witness this, but so did other parents. Of course, no one said anything, including me, but that is why this was my last year for my daughter at this studio. I don't feel sorry for her, but I feel sorry for her teachers. Her teachers are incredibly nice! I just cannot not understand how she treats people like they are beneath her. She needs to just retire like all grumpy old people and live the rest of her days alone. That kind of conversation should be taken behind closed doors in private, but she felt she needed to show her superiority and include the children in the conversation and belittle them. I also think just because her studio is pretty and clean, that doesn't mean that her studio has any good quality and technical dancers. The recital was boring and the costumes were expensive! Don't waste your money on this studio cause your money is only funding her ego. The Founder, Artistic Director (whom we have followed for 11 years and counting) and their esteemed faculty and fantastic staff are serious about educating developing dancers and take their role in these young people's lives very personally. The facility is very well-appointed with the comfort and safety of both the dancers and parents in mind and there are opportunities for everyone from the beginning toddler princess ballerinas to the recreational student to those interested in competing and preparing for professional careers in dance. We CDA! My daughter has been with CDA since 2014 and mainly takes ballet and pointe classes. Ms. Rosemary and Mr. AJ pour their love and passion for dance into their students. They are so professional and take the time to refine the students technique. No detail is too small. Their years of experience shines through. By far this has been the best studio near me. My daughter has been dancing here for 9 years and has had Ms. Rosemary for the majority of those years. The instructors are fabulous and Ms Holly has done the best job being Rosemary's rt hand and works harder than most. If you have any issues and approach the rt. person about them those issues will be dealt with accordingly. I have read many of CDA's reviews and can't help but laugh at the dramatics of some parents. And there in lies the biggest issue, not just at CDA, but at any other dance studio. It's the parents who feel that their child/children are the best and deserve every extra bit of attention. What matters at CDA is that the level of instruction is excellent, how well your child/children do depends on them and their ability to take constructive criticism and follow direction, & that goes for the parents as well. Yes there is clashes of personality between instructors and parents, but know one is perfect & no matter where you go, you'll always find disagreeable persons.
