Lived here for almost 2 years now. I have a 2 br, 2 bath apt that faces the river, Mill Mountain…read moreStar, and the greenway. The apartments are great, and fairly quiet. The only sounds we ever hear are from closing doors in the hallway and an occasional muffled thump from what I imagine to be pro-style wrestling that is going on at the neighbor's place. The included appliances are all Frigidaire brand, and seem to be holding up fairly well. The fridge/freezer combo is a little small for my liking, but I cook a lot and find that run out of room fairly quickly. Parking is ok with the exceptions of the days that Fleet Feet is here. If you don't beat them here, you probably will have a hard time just getting to a space without running over 30 runners, as they just stand in the middle of the road as clueless as they can....so annoying. The complex also sports a pretty decent gym area that is equipped with new and nice machines. I don't know what they all do, but they look painful, and I see lots of folks coming out of the gym area covered in sweat, so I suppose they do their job. Biggest complaint is the fact that almost all of the apt have only 1 window. It makes it hard to air out the apartment after burning something on the stove...not that I do that. I have lived in houses most of my life, and have no regrets moving in here, and have no intention of moving out any time soon.

I have lived here in a townhouse for 9 years, (my own fault). I was in one of the apartments for 2…read moreyears before this which was in my son's name. I was there between flights while working. This is honestly THE WORST place I have ever lived in my life. The only reason I came here in the beginning is because Pebble Creek was full at the time. Little did I know what I would encounter and now I simply cannot deal with anymore. It's all I can take. There has been NO upkeep to this place in 9 years. I have a sliding door that doesn't lock and been this way 4 or 5 years. Maintenance comes and tweeks it with a screw driver and done this 3 or 4 different times, however never stays. Sliding door in the winter feels like you're pulling over 50 lbs because it's from the 1970s. Paint peeling off the walls, carpet coming up at the doorways, front door will not stay shut if it isn't locked because it won't latch, front door looks worse than the Projects but at least the government keeps them up. The rotten wood facing was painted, not sure why and it's now chipping away. This is all so sad and Bent Tree boasts with a sign about award winning property??? Shrubs are not trimmed in a timely manner and looks terrible not to mention the fact that they hurt your body when touched and letting them get too close to door causes pain when you have to get past them. Water heater blew up last week and it had to be replaced, (that couldn't be left with water running out so I caught it before it flooded the carpet. This kind of thing happens in all places. Glad I was here or it would have been really bad. They used a shop vac to get the water up at the area wet and gave me a fan to use to dry which it did. Left a small grease spot on the carpet but this is trivial by comparison. It is outrageous the incompetence of this company. You have been through 3 or 4 managers since I've been here. You just keep hiring losers. As far as maintenance goes, there is the only one here who really knows what he's doing. Everything gets a band-aid here and this is unacceptable. The manager here had scheduled someone to clean the spot in front of the heater mishap and the timing wasn't acceptable due to a doctor's appointment. We discussed it and decided the next Thursday would be good between 10-12 PM. Now here it is Thursday, 9/21/2017 and I've moved everything so carpet cleaner can do his job quickly and then they tell me it's the 28th, however I wasn't called back to tell me this even though the manager would argue that she did. Never happened. I cannot change appointments again and I will not have someone I do not know in here around my personal belongings. I have tried to take care of everything the best I can with no upgrades at all. It's very depressing to say the least. The new manager hired is still learning I suppose what a mess this place is and I suspect the owner has a lot to do with it. Frugal is one thing but cheap and greedy is another. They come here and put a piece on the faucets that sprays and doesn't run so therefore it uses less water which I'm sure was what the owner wanted but it splatters all the way to the floor and makes a terrible mess, constantly wiping down everything (unless you turn it down like an airplane lavatory). There is so much more but I doubt if this will matter anyway. Just keep renting to the unsavory people you have been and the good ones will leave. Police are here at least once a week. I just don't feel safe anymore here or comfortable in anyway. Management is unacceptable. It isn't just me. I won't call maintenance on weekends unless a dire emergency. I try to be considerate to their life as well. I've tried to put up with it and lasted longer than most smart people. It's difficult to have to move, all the packing and expense . I had a melt down today with the manager. I yelled at her because she tried to defend her mistake. She did not tell me the correct carpet cleaning date and I know this for a fact, no email regarding it or any communication as a business should do.. I cancelled appointment and moved things. Not thinking much of F&W right now and for a long time. Just kept hoping it would get better. Doesn't look like this will happen so I will be leaving in the not too distant future. Good luck trying to rent units because my google review will make them run. Sorry it has to be this way but I have never had to encounter such things as I have here. Yes, I will wrap up this masterpiece for now.

A bug exterminator comes to visit every few months and we never had any problems with bugs while living there. We had a few issues with the hot water cut off to our shower over the year we lived there and maintenance was always quick to fix it. The first time it happened was in the middle of the night on a Friday and we called the maintenance line just expecting to leave a message and someone actually answered! We had our water fixed within an hour! That would be unheard of where I live now. The complex is very pet and family friends. Lots of events for all to participate in. Parking is plentiful, although some of the spots in one of the lots flood if it rains too much. Maintenance is very thorough about salting and plowing the streets when necessary. I'm taking off 1 star because of the people who lived above us. They were extremely loud and had a dog that was clearly over the weight limit for the second floor. I wish the complex had been better about enforcing those rules. Also, the ceilings are very thin. We were able to hear all the "adult" things happening in the master bed room upstairs, which was rather uncomfortable. I graduated from school and had to move on and, unfortunately leave Salem Woods. Trying to find a new apartment was very difficult since this place was so nice! My new apartment is nowhere near as nice as this place. It may seem expensive for the Salem area, but it is completely worth it!

The integrity issue arises when you are given the opportunity to correct a mistake, and make good on the harm you have done someone. * Do you say "Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I'm sorry," and make things right? * Or cower behind some version of "the Nuremberg defense?" (I was compelled by circumstances. I was only following orders. etc.) A few months ago, Ms. Witt destroyed items of my valued personal property, without my knowledge, permission, or consent. I asked her to make good on five selected items(2), and was told that she was very sorry. The idea of making things right never seemed to cross her mind. Those missing items stayed on my mind, though, so I contacted the Better Business Bureau, the regional realtor's association, and the state licensing board. Still no satisfaction. Since a personal request proved fruitless, as well as escalating attempts to resolve things "in house," I think it's time, regretfully, to go public. ~~~ (1) The band Van Halen had a simple integrity test.
