I would give 0 stars if I could. This property manager may seem legitimate but they are a complete scam. I will be contacting the BBB in Virginia about this company. They are farming application fees. I applied for multiple units and was constantly given another reason as to why I have to submit another application and pay another fee. After passing all criteria for their screening process they demanded that I need someone who already lives in the state of Virginia to fill out ANOTHER application fee. JMAX Salem, VA company has nine and soon to be 10, one-star ratings on Yelp. They deserve a zero rating for service, responsiveness, and ethical behavior. I will be evaluating them soon across social media platforms and filing a small claims suit against them for an apartment I attended to rent in Roanoke, Va for myself and a relative. I was approved and the relative was not because the virtual application process was so cumbersome that it was impossible to complete the process. I have lost $1800, on an apartment that I never occupied. They are attempting to keep a month's rent. Although the company has a Salem. VA address it is totally virtual and applicants have to use Findigs, Propertyware, and RHINO rental insurance regardless of income and credit rating. After we uploaded my relative's drivers license, bank statements, and employment information, it was wiped out and we were told that we could not mail or hand deliver documents. Their business practices are dishonest and misleading. I have dealt with Searina, Anna, and Steve. Steve is the owner. Already paying overpriced rent, just to find out after jumping through all their hoops to get approved for a property that they tack on about an extra $70 in various fees every month, including a $35 "convenience" fee for paying your rent online. They care more about their money then the people. Knowing that I was a DV with PTSD and cancer who uses HUD-VASH they led me to believe the apt was mine and that I needed the RHA to approve it first then I could put down a deposit. Well they know full well it takes more then 48 hrs to get this done but yet pulled the rug right out from under me in less time and I'm sure they laughed when they did it! It was the nicest place I seen when I in Roanoke looking ....exactly what I needed. A duplex...my PTSD alone (add the cancer) does not allow me having someone above me or a lot of people around me and I can not negotiate flights of stairs. First off they are awful to try and deal with in any way especially when it comes to fixing hvac. Very misleading in every aspect. We've been having issues with one thing or another since we moved in to our place but especially the hvac system. We have 2 young kids and time and time again we've asked for them to remediate the problem of it not cooling but they continue to give us the run around and do nothing. The two ladies in the Roanoke office, Sheila the assistant/the person that answers the phone is rude to the core and her solution words to transfer me to someone else in the office with I believe there are only three people in this office, and this lovely lady I don't even recall her name because of her unprofessional way of speaking to me and interrupting me, would not let me finish one sentence... As I ask questions she asked me why I need to know, wow! This is one junk office let me tell you this company whatever they do they're up to no good and clearly not up-to-date with the law on the front page of their website it clearly states; ** Fair Housing: equal opportunity ** they SUPPOSEDLY are all about it. NO THEY ARE NOT!! These Shady and unprofessional/rude/disrespectful, can't answer simple questions... people should be out of a job and replaced with professionals who actually do want to help people find homes to rent as these people do not! Especially during this time in 2020 with the Covid pandemic with millions of families affected greatly and seeking assistance and help and guidance, these type of persons should not be in any way shape or form the ones to be there to answer the call! I didn't view the property because they had others come during my appointment time in which I confirmed several times. I believe after the unprofessionalism I experienced (the pressuring of filling out paperwork and paying you a deposit on something I hadn't seen, lying and saying I had to do it one day and not another and you turn around and tell me to come in the day I requested seconds after you told me no I couldn't do it then, and also the condition of the home of what I did see compared to the pictures posted online,) I believe one should really think about renting from them. I suggested that the homes be move in ready before showing them. Most property management companies do that, I would believe. They never answer the phone. Let me ask Linda E. one more time, Would you sign a legally binding contract/lease and pay a significant deposit on something you haven't seen in person? The company may be great as the prices seem affordable, but the service by one woman is unprofessional and I'll never go back. When we met with April Gonzalez, who had nothing nice to say about her last name when we asked (obviously an angry woman with a name she hates), our immediate impression was negative. She had obviously just gotten done smoking and that's an immediate unprofessional act. Her mannerisms were fidgety and nearly paranoid. We asked if we needed to reschedule, but she just stayed on her phone. She wasn't thorough showing us the house, we just walked around ourselves while she mumbled about something to her phone. We were clearly not a concern for her. The house we saw was very nice, but if she's who we'd be dealing with......NO THANKS! We took our business somewhere else. read more
