Steve, the project manager from Cornerstone Custom Brick, came out May 7th to give us a quote to replace our crumbling brick steps. We knew the price was high for the work that was to be done but we trusted Steve since he told us the work would be permitted and inspected. He had lots of pictures of work they had performed so we had no reason to feel we wouldn't get a solid job from Cornerstone. We gave him a deposit on May 7th and the work was performed on May 21st and May 22nd. That evening, the owner, Joel was there to collect the balance. We both looked at the work that was completed. I pointed out a few things I was not real thrilled with like a few bricks being crooked and all the excess mortar on the brick and concrete and he said wait till it dries and if there were any problems or the brick needed to be cleaned, they would take care of it. While there, he was pointing out other jobs he thought he could sell to me and proceeded to quote them. Specifically, driveway joint sealing and remove and rebuild paver patio. All what I believe was a ploy to get my attention off the matter at hand. I let him quote them, but I was not interested in moving forward with anything further at that time. I was not that satisfied with the work done, and a little hesitant, but I paid him that evening anyway, thinking they would stand behind it. That was my mistake. The next day, when mostly dry, I noticed the steps looked a bit lower than they were before they were removed, so I got out a tape measure. I was right. Not only that, there was dried mortar all over the faces of new brick and driveway that will not come off. I'm not a builder, I don't know codes, which is why we hired this out in the first place. I contacted Joel the next day and he said call Steve, that's what he pays him for. So, I called Steve and explained the concern I had with the work that was done and he came by to look at them he agreed that the bricks were just laid down and no measuring or calculations were done and that his guys should have known better. He stated that he would have another crew come out and tear them out rebuild them properly. He assured me that they were a small family owned company and that they would stand behind their work. We now have a job that was not done to code, no permit pulled and no inspection. With the Steve no longer returning my calls, I reached out to Joel once again. He returned the call on June 25th. He said if I wasn't happy, I shouldn't have paid in full. He insists the work performed was removed and replaced with the exact same thing and they will not rebuild them. Before and after photos may show them to be similar, but dimensionally, they are incorrect and not to code. The previous step heights were 7.00" 7.00" and 7.75". The last measurement due to the slab settling over last 15 years. The new step heights are 6.25" 6.25" and 8.75". That is a 2.50" height difference on the highest step which is clearly a TRIP HAZARD and not to Code. Had they been installed correctly, the rise would have been approximately 7.25" each step. Something a licensed and insured contractor that supposedly specializes in this type of work should know without question. Regardless of what was there, the job was to remove the crumbling brick and reinstall them correctly. Something that Cornerstone Custom Brick failed to do. A respectable business owner and a knowledgeable project manager would not allow his company to leave a customer with work not to code and DANGEROUS to anyone using the steps. How's that for customer service and standing behind their work? Far from "Custom" work and a complete waste of our time and money. Next time I will do some detective work first and not go with a sales pitch. I would not recommend this company under any circumstances. read more

Cornerstone family owned company is top notch! The workmanship and care they put into delivering a finished product is Amazing! Let me go on record admitting I am very particular when it comes to having work done on my home. We were looking for a reputable company to fix our landscaping. Our request was to redo our backyard brick patio, and redo our front landscaping. I know what I want, I expect crews to be respectful, professional, take pride in their work and most of all I expect work to be done as if it was their own home. I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am. So much so I felt the need to share. My patio and front landscaping looks amazing. The crew worked continuously and took great pride in their workmanship. Extremely conscious of keeping everything clean and neat. We recently had our chimney rebuilt because if a leak in our fireplace. We had another contractor come out, but he just recemented a few bricks, replaced the cap area of the chimney and applied a waterproof spray to chimney. But we still got the water leak. When we tried to get him out on his warranty, we never got a reply. We contacted Cornerstone thru an ad. Steve called and came out as scheduled. He told us the previous work was not done correctly and we should just rebuilt the chimney. After numerous questions which he answered we decided to have then do the job. They were out in the next few days and completed the job within the time they stated. The workers were courteous and hard working and they removed the debris and cleaned up. The work seemed to be done as contracted. Tim did a good job matching the brick. We will have to see what happens next time it rains or snow melts, but Steve assured us we would have no problems. Just wanted to give a big shout out of thanks to Cornerstone Custom Brick for repairing my porch, steps and now this week my chimney that was recently hit by lightning. I met with Brittani in late May to review the repairs needed of my already rebuilt once porch of 2013 and we were able to lock in the job to be completed before the Memorial holiday. Just this past week, I called upon CCB to check out my chimney as the top cap and layers of brick had come free and strewn across my roof. I met with Roger later that morning and owner Joel was kind and generous enough to give me a repair cost that fit my budget. Both crews were great (Christopher's & Chewy's). It took a few days to get an estimator to come by, but Brittanie handled herself very professionally, did a thorough walk-around, addressed our concerns and gave us a complete breakdown of what would be needed (chimney rebuild and repair of the garage wall and the front porch) and the costs involved. The price was reasonable, but it took a couple weeks to obtain the funds, because we didn't want to finance the job. They did start the job with the garage, per my request, and we were able to get started on that with a down payment for just that portion. Fortunately, we had a couple days of good weather this month (December) to complete the rest of the job when the money became available. We're very happy with the results. I highly recommend this company I hired Cornerstone to come out and fix my patio it was waving and discolored a little bit I was debating on getting new but decided to go with the restoration process.
