Contacted for a Chimney rebuild on a 40 year old house. Estimator was efficient and detailed. Made great effort to match 40 year old brick. Crew arrived with brick as scheduled. They immediately set to work and protected area around chimney with tarps to protect shrubs and collect debris. Quickly set up scaffolding and proceeded to demolish top 8 ft of old chimney. They collected and hauled away all debris from this! Next, they set up their corner guides from base of old chimney and proceeded to neatly rebuild the chimney. Again they collected all debris and hauled it away with them. Per my request they had salvaged several brick to use to repair a windowsill on front of house thereby guaranteeing an exact match to existing brick. My experience was extremely frustrating: calls and messages went unanswered, contracts were ignored, and timelines were not respected. It felt like there was no accountability or professionalism at all. On top of that, the company has a questionable reputation. We hired Cornerstone Custom Brick to repair multiple areas of our brick home. Working with Cornerstone Custom Brick was the most stressful experience I have had as a 20+ year homeowner. My biggest complaint is initially they did not complete all of the work as it was listed in our written contract. I had to call the project manager multiple times to ask why certain parts of the job had not been done as we had previously agreed. He made excuses, stating the owner said they could not do it and had instructed the crew to skip certain details. He also offered a $100 refund for a part of the incomplete work, which would have cost me thousands of dollars to hire someone else to do. The project manager eventually apologized and finished the work. They had to return two additional times before everything that I paid for was finally done per our written contract. Next, the project manager said his crew needed an electrical outlet and water to complete their work. They used other items in my yard, including a bucket and ladder, without my permission. I expect some debris after a home repair, however, the workers from Cornerstone Custom Brick left a mess. I found several large sponges, pieces of brick and garbage from their supplies around my house and in my neighbors' driveway. The crew reinstalled an outdoor electrical cover upside down. It is mortared into the brick. I am going to have to hire someone else to fix this. Lastly, the project manager made a mistake with our payment, which caused my check to bounce. Luckily, I have never done this before, so my bank did not charge me a fee. The owner, Joel, never apologized for this. Instead he sent me a text, stating that he needed to "BE REIMBURSED", and asked me to rewrite a check to him directly! I did rewrite a check, but to the company, Cornerstone Custom Brick. Besides the crew's lack of attention to detail, the project manager's excuses and the owner's unprofessionalism, I will say once FULLY completed, the quality of their work overall is good. Stay Away - 1 Star because I can't give zero Cornerstone installed my $13.5k porch in June of 2020. I became concerned about cracking between the cap and brick border after the winter of 2020. I called, texted and emailed asking for someone to look at my porch. Was given the run around for months by Brandon Wojt and others. They finally came out and admitted there was a problem, only after I wrote a bad review, and "fixed" it. Now here we are 4 1/2 years after install and my porch is literally falling in on itself. Sales person was efficient and honest. Some of the work that was done was "ok" except for work performed on my front porch which required minor brick tear out and rebuild. Rebuild work was not done correctly so called and asked for someone to come look at it. Took forever. In the end, they would not fix their substandard work, sent a letter from their attorney to basically tell us they would sue us if we continued to complain, and dumped scrap mortar and brick on my neighbor's property. They were to repair all around the home - nip/tuck joints and repair a weak cornerstone. Terrible workmanship mason repair of a cornerstone fell off, joints came loose or were found not even repaired. We called less then a month after they completed their work. I had exterior painters scheduled right behind them. I called Joel and Jerry. The owner, Joel, never called/texted back. The salesman and repair guy, Jerry, responded once and then ghosted me with no apology or concern to correct inferior work. I do not recommend Cornerstone. When I expressed concerns about the step nosing and building code compliance, the owner Joel Masching's reply was "I don't know the code, ...". Avoid at all costs! While the work looked good at first (new chimney and front step), less than 6 months later, we had roofer over who mentioned that the chimney cap (which had been replaced in April with the rest of the chimney) was cracked. After numerous inquiries on their website and calls that went unanswered, I called the owner and got a call back from someone who said the would send a crew out to replace it. The "crew" of 1 person showed up late Sunday afternoon (dark), took one look at the chimney and said he couldn't do it by himself and would be back with more help later. He showed up a day or two later and got right to work. After taking off the cracked cap, he showed me pictures of what was under it. Under the crack in the cap were 2 wooden planks across the chimney, the rest was unsupported. He then proceeded to replace the cap, and the pictures look good, but who knows. In addition, ever since the first fix, I had been asking for them to put the appropriate metal cage cap on the flue (13x9) rather than the 13x13" cage that they had put on to keep out critters, but the message never got to anyone and the crew never came prepared. Subsequent calls to ask about the cage and any extension of the warranty on the new cap have gone unanswered. A cracked cap what was led to the damage to the chimney and its replacement in the first place. Hoping this review sparks some response. read more

We contacted this company because they had A coupon and we needed tuck pointing. We talked to a few other companies and we didn't go with this company because they were the cheapest we went with this company because the woman that was the sales person acted as if she knew everything, that they were highly recommended, had great reviews on Better Business Bureau, and also had wonderful reviews online. They sent out two employees to do the job and they were nice but they did not do a decent job whatsoever. Grout was missing, grout was put on sloppy, things were not finished, and it just looked like crap. So we texted her and told her and all she would say was wait two weeks because the grout is going to dry darker. I wasn't worried about the color of the grout I was worried about the ugliness of the job and being done in a half butt way. We called her right away but she said to wait two weeks. Then after two weeks I contacted her and told her I was unhappy so she said to send her pictures and she would send someone out right away. I sent about 30 pictures with her response saying that she would get back with me and have someone come out right away. Many, many, many text messages later and many months later nobody came out to fix the problem. We paid for almost half of the job and decided we didn't want to pay for the other half because it was not finished so once they found out that we didn't wanna pay for the other half suddenly the company wants to come out and fix the problem seven months later. When they came out they just added more crap as you can see in the one photo where they slapped a whole bunch of white grout on the chimney which looks insane and where they just sprayed acid all over their work which I don't know what it was supposed to do but all it did was stain my doors, stain the concrete, and make the job look even worse. The kicker is that they are trying to tell us or should I say the company that we are supposed to pay through that we are happy and we told them we were satisfied and we are trying to get a free service from them. If we were trying to get a free service we would not have paid anything. Now they are trying to screw us by saying that we were happy with what they did Dash which never came out of my mouth at all and that we are just again trying to get a free service so now we have to deal with them because The credit company we used is taking their word which is just "the customer was very happy" which is totally untrue. They also did the same with me on the Better Business Bureau website where I posted all of my photos and made a complaint against them but since they came out quotations only after they didn't get paid the full amount" that we were happy and so now that case is closed as well. So if you want to deal with this company be ready to get little discounts if you leave them a five star review, a discount if you keep their sign on your lawn, and the crappyest work that will ever happen. It would be one thing if they actually kept their word and came back to fix the problem we originally complained about four months. It is obvious that they are the ones who are trying to get over because they didn't come and I have a lot of proof via text messages that were never returned they never came back to fix their crappy work with even crappy or work until it cost them some money. My mother is a senior citizen and does not have money because she is on a fixed income and the thought that they would do that to her is just sickening. Brittany was quick to set up the date to have my parents porch rebricked, as well as new steps and pad. My father even took down the railing we have for our disabled family member, so that way it was easier for the team to complete the job. A storm occurred during the job, so the team paused and said they would be back to fix and complete the work. The mortar ran due the the rain, which they stated they would acid wash (we had to do this ourselves later). Additionally, they said they would repour the cement pad, due to it being poured without any frame work (see photo). It looks as if I did it myself by how blotchy it is, as it's spilling Into the lawn. We cannot put back the railing for our handicapped family member due to the lack of edging. We also have a pile of bricks still left at our home because they never replaced/repaired the lower row of brick on the porch that is crumbling. I assuming this will cause structal damage in the future, which is why we had the porch done in the first place. We are incredibly disappointed with the botched job they did and very frustrated with the lack of communication and straight up lying that has happened once we complained. The team has not been back to complete the work, as promised by Brittany. She came to our home to take photos, as well as take back a large metal grate that they left behind in the middle of our front yard. She herself expressed disappointment and couldn't believe the work that was done. We have called various times after Brittany came out, and spoke to a gentleman (who I assume is Brittany's boss) and he stated someone will be out within the week or so. This has yet to occur and it's been over a month. Selling someone something is easy, it's the follow through and work being done that really matters. Won't meet you for a quote "without your husband"!!! Yuck! I called Cornerstone to get an estimate on a project involving two chimney repairs. When trying to schedule an appointment, they refused to meet at any times without my husband present for the estimate. I was told that it helps reduce any miscommunication between spouses. We had some tuck pointing and one individual brick replace. Sent out a crew that completed the work in 2.5 hours. The crew (3 people-one did most of the work) did good work and cleaned up. The company's management is a different story. I feel like we were part of scheme to milk us out of monies. Started extremely high and came down a little bit. Bogus warranty!!! Stay away from this company. We paid $14,000 to have a patio completely rebuilt. The price was significantly more than everyone else but we trusted their claims and warranty. While rebuilding our chimney, they allowed so much masonry to fall down our chimney, we couldn't open the flue. It took us hours to open it. The grate they installed at the top blew off in the first strong wind. We called them multiple times and Chris seemed confused and not sure what to do. They never sent anyone to check it out. Well, my original dealing with Cornerstone was relatively positive. Workers came to remove old sagging poured concrete steps and install precast steps and repair some mortar damage. The job took a little longer than expected due to one of the precast concrete pieces arrived cracked. That should have been a warning to me that they purchase inferior quality materials. They had quite a bit of mortar mixed and simply dumped it within the step area which was going to get covered. It was still more weight on the concrete base slab than necessary. However, the finished job was satisfactory. The problem comes about 1.5 years after installation. One of the steps exhibited pitting and cracking directly in the walking path. I started to call the company in February with no answer. I left several voice mails with NO replies. I went to the store to express my concerns and need for repair. I was given the name and number of the person who will do the repair work and was told that person would contact me. Not only did I NOT receive a call, I was basically was totally ghosted. I called the person who asked me to send pictures and details and they would get back in touch with me.....and then, nothing. I called numerous times, left VM's, sent emails with NO return calls. I will be filing complaints with the BBB and Attorney Generals office. Again, they probably do decent work MOST of the time, BUT, if you have any issues and need repair, it likely won't happen! We called Cornerstone to address a moderate water leak in our fireplace. They had a house visit scheduled fairly quickly to do an estimate. Our rep was very friendly and great at laying out our options. We scheduled the job to be done as soon as they could come out. The chimney rebuild didn't take very long and the final result looks well done. They cleaned up after themselves and went on their way. However, two days later, several rainstorms went through the area overnight and the leak in the fireplace is still as bad as it was before the rebuild. After reaching back out to them, they sent our original sales rep back out a couple weeks later to re-assess the issue. Turns out the brick on our Chimney's shoulder was broken up and needed to be patched. They had a team out to do that a week later without charging us extra. We're satisfied with the end result, but wish the broken up bricks on the shoulder were discovered the first time around so we wouldn't have paid for a full chimney rebuild. read more

On April 14, 2022, we hired Cornerstone Custom Brick to tear apart and put back together a brick paver patio at a condo we had recently purchased. The work was completed on April 15 & 16, 2022. We were absolutely thrilled with our new patio, it had been leveled, no longer dipped in the middle, was no longer slanted towards the foundation of the condo and no longer posed a trip hazard. They were able to reuse our bricks and also installed a proper stone/block edging, something that was not done with the original build. The work crew from Cornerstone was professional, polite, efficient, hardworking and clearly knew what they were doing. They left our property clean and even placed the base for our cantilever umbrella back on the patio for us. To the work crew and the job, they did - we give 5 stars. Several days after the installation we noticed a discoloration on six (6) of the edge stones/blocks. We placed a call to Cornerstone asking what this might be and what could be done about it. It was necessary to place four more calls before we received a call back. We were asked to send a text containing pictures and told we would receive a call back regarding a solution. We received no call back. In early May we were told someone would be by to look at the stones/blocks and discuss with us what could be done. They never showed. Seven phone calls, two emails and two text messages later we were told someone would be out to look at the stones/blocks on June 9, 2022 and would let us know how this issue would be resolved. They never showed. So after nearly two full months of frustration, no resolution to the discoloration problem and a failure to seemingly even care, we feel we can give no greater than a 2-star rating to Cornerstone Custom Brick. The work performed is only one portion of any job, the customer service is another portion and poor quality on either one can certainly taint a customer's opinion of a company. Therefore, while Cornerstone Custom Brick does beautiful work - you'd better hope that you never have a problem because their customer service, in our experience, is non-existent. read more

I offer 3 observations: * Outstanding workmanship: The job was done perfectly; the cleanup was impeccable and the workman were responsive to input. Well done. * Outlandish price: To measure how outlandish the price was, I ball-parked the cost per labor hour for Cornerstone and compared this to a host of recently completed projects at my house. Bottom-line, Cornerstone 3-5 times more expensive than what would make them competitive with other skilled trades. While Cornerstone deserves some premium for a quality job, this comparison highlights the price concern: o Cornerstone: $375 o New Deck: $150 o New Gutters: $150 o Large Landscaping Project: $125 o Front Walk Slate Reset: $65 o Install New Garage Doors: $65 o Exterior Re-painting: $50 * Pressured selling-practices: Their sales process pressured me. Joe (owner) and Brandon (salesman) have a process where Brandon presents Cornerstone, offers a quote, then applies pre-planned discounts and coordinates with Joe to add one more discount but makes you decide right then to commit to the job to get all the discounts. I had no chance for me to get competitive quotes. I was stuck to accept given the time of the year and not having competitive options and quotes ahead of time (my fault). It is a sales process that reminded me of 'time-shares'. Word to the wise: Have a competitive quote before asking Cornerstone for a quote and be prepared to say no if they refuse to be competitive. I called Joe to review all this. He was very argumentative and short. When asked to justify his price/man hour, his response was that the other trades were not skilled. This is an obvious misrepresentation and did not push back when I countered that they were all skilled trades. When asked to justify his pricing based on the above, he said that he does not price on such considerations. When asked what he does price on, his response was at first evasive and then based on quality. When pressed on his pricing calculus, he did go to labor costs, overhead, material and profit. Think about his cost structure: material costs (mortar) are very low, his crew shared that they are contract employees so I could imagine they are not receiving benefits which leaves a substantial profit. So the profit he can make is what he is pricing on. And for a final thought, Brandon explicitly projected a Christian value system and claims Joe shares in these values. Great. I am a Christian too and aim to live by such values. I do not question their Christian faith, but their business practices do not seem in line with Christian values as I understand them. I shared with Joe this review post after our conversation thinking it might prompt him to either provide response or maybe consider a price adjustment after considering the facts. I never heard back from him. I did share this story with the BBB. Cornerstone has an A- rating and does have a history of responding to complaints. But the BBB restricts itself to job complaints and not pricing issues. For that they recommend multiple quotes. In retrospect, I should have said no to their quote and taken on the task of finding someone who would have done a good job at a fair price. You should do the same too. read more

Hired them on 26th April 2022 to restore patio by removing bricks and releveling the patio. After they completed the job I noticed low spots where water was pooling after rain and also areas where the polymeric sand used to "set" the bricks had been left on the bricks surface causing discoloration. Called and texted numerous times throughout May, June and July but only got promises to return to fix the problem according to the contract I signed. I never got any satisfaction so I contacted the Better Business Bureau . They attempted to mediate between me and Cornerstone but Cornerstone continued to deny and deflect. I was told by BBB that I should approach the Michigan attorneys office or small claims court to pursue resolution which I intend to do. I would never recommend this company to anyone. He answered all my many questions as well as worked hard to compromise and arrange a deal where I could get my job done within my price range. The crew showed up within a day and worked tirelessly for a full day in the hot July sun while maintaining kind, professional attitudes. I honestly don't know how these guys do it. Avoid this company. 33450 Groesbeck Hwy, Fraser, MI 48026 (248) 675-5252 There are enough good companies on the market to pick. They do poor quality work and do not honor it. Very pricey. Be aware of a very good salesman person. Workers and Cornerstone cars without company sign may show up on your property without your permission (!), knowledge, and without any notifications. We hired CORNERSTONE Custom Brick to re-build the upper part of our chimney, replace the service door for ash removal from the outside, and to fix our porch. The estimate included cleaning after work. Communication was good. Eric, one of the supervisors was in contact with us trying to find matching bricks. The crew of 4 people showed up on October 29, 2018, with lots of equipment and tools. The chimney has been rebuilt the way we expected. The porch - not really, they fixed and replaced the edge but workers caused a chip right in the center of our main entrance to the house. The crew finished the job after dark so we did not have a chance to see how the cleaning was done. Basically, just the stones were swept into our flower beds. We also had to powerwash a thin layer of cement left on our driveway and patio. But we did not complain about it to Eric or the owner. At the end of November, we started out our fireplace and next day we noticed that our whole house, every piece of furniture, inside drawers, closets, dishes, toys, curtains, blinds, books, even our dog - was covered with a layer of black soot. It is the nightmare and we are still fighting with it and cleaning it up. We've lived in this house over 16 years and use the fireplace all winter and never had problems with soot. Our first guess was that our furnace is broken. We called the company who installed our furnace 5 years ago and a very experienced worker, Tom showed up in about an hour. He checked the furnace with the professional equipment and found nothing wrong. Then he started to check the draft at the fireplace and it was OK. But he then explained what probably happened. On a windy day (we had windy days at that time) a "backdraft" was created, at the same time our furnace started and sucked in the soot and spread it thru the entire house. The furnace intake is across the room from the fireplace. We were not sure why for 16 years we never had that problem and suddenly it happened. It took us a while to realize, that we did not check our service door after CS replaced it and this was a VERY BIG MISTAKE. We found that the door was not sealed and not even possible to be latched. We called CORNERSTONE Custom Brick, explained what happened and asked them to help us with the cost of cleaning (ducts, chimney, upholstery, carpets, clothing.. Whole house!.) Eric showed up the next day to see the damage. He was very sorry and he said that CS had that soot back up issue before and the owner will participate in our costs of cleaning. We decided not to file a claim to our insurance company. Eric replied politely to the text messages we sent. He promised to "get back to us soon". One day when we came home from work we noticed that the service doors are sealed and rotated 90 degrees to latch properly. We do not like when somebody is present on our property without our knowledge! BTW CS did a very poor job on that door sealing. It looks messy. After the calculation of the labor we did and what still has to be done we asked CORNERSTONE to reimburse part of cleaning cost. It's over two months now and we still do not know CORNERSTONE decision. We have no answers for our text messages anymore. We've spent a lot of money and time to clean and make our house livable again. We are still not done with house detailing. read more
