Was in the area so stopped in for lunch today. Ordered the fried tofu as an app and the panang curry for entree. I am a plant based eater so these were perfect. Tofu was fried tofu nothing to special but was cooked right and served hot. The panang curry is by far one of my favorite Thai dishes to order and I order it at almost every Thai restaurant o go to. There's is very good, just enough spice/heat but not to much the sweetness comes through nice and the freshness of the kaffir leaves sets it off. You can tell it was cooked to order and finished like a sauce should be. Definitely recommend stopping in and giving them a try. read more

The pineapple fried rice was good. Opted for the chicken, which had meaty pieces of chicken, not slithers like some places. Also contained pineapple, nuts, raisins, onion. Generous portion for the money ($10.95 dinner) The Grilled Combo was also good. Came with chicken, pork, beef and shrimp. One kebab had peppers and pineapple. The beef was a little tough, would try to get that replaced with another shrimp, etc. two sauces accompanied the plate, a spicy lime sauce and a BBQ sauce for the pork. I requested soy and peanut sauces and they were happy to do so. Peanut sauce better with chicken. ($15.95) The Thai iced tea was very good. Loved this place. Tiny and HOT HOT HOT inside. Like, too hot. But the cheerful hostess/server and the food more than made up for it. I would have liked to have sat outside, I think. We got drunken noodle with shrimp. It was surprisingly good, and I say that Bc I've never seen pad kee mao made with vermicelli rice noodles. It worked! Plot twist! Poor Pia, a crispy homemade egg roll with a sweet and sour dipping sauce and Kanom Jeep, a Thai dumpling made of minced chicken wrapped in a wonton wrapper and topped with scallion. We split the Basil fried rice. The menu stated it as spicy, but it wasn't spicy,just very tasty. We also had Drunken Noodles and Pad Mee Noodles. All were so good! Corner Thai Cafe is a BYB. Very tiny, intimate, hole in the wall type deal literally tucked away in the corner of the shopping plaza on Beach street. Perfect name. We were greeted and seated promptly. The service is very quick and friendly. A cute little girl served us our water glasses and when she placed them down, I guess it was heavier than she had anticipated and she spooked herself. Nothing to do with the food, but the service was upbeat and funny. I ordered Pad Thai without fish sauce and without egg, with vegetables -- I wasn't given any hassle or grief for my request like many other Thai restaurants tend to do. Our food was brought out quickly but not too quickly as you could tell it was made to order but efficiently. I didn't ask for heat so I had to ask for chili sauce and powder to spice up my dish. The flavor was consistent and fresh vegetables, not frozen were included. The prices are reasonable as well. Will I be back and drive out of my way for Thai food to relish this place? Yes. read more

Five Stars hardly does this little Thai Restaurant gem justice. I have eaten there 6 or 7 times now and I am always overwhelmed at how significantly better they are compared to so many others I have dined in. If you are a Thai food lover this place should be at the top of your destination list, after your first meal , you will be singing its praises from the mountain tops with the rest of the chorus of religious followers who dine there regularly. From the Tom Kar Gai, which I might add is the very best example of that soup I have had any where, to the crispy fried egg rolls, Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao and duck dishes, I doubt seriously you will find fresher ingredients prepared and presented as beautifully with such incredibly well balanced flavors as you will find at Corner Thai Cafe. There are many Thai dishes on their menu that you will not find anywhere else, perhaps with the exception of a trip to Thailand. I do not claim to be a Connoisseur of Thai Cuisine (I live in Westerly), nor would I claim to be a real die-hard Thai Aficionado (I'm from New Jersey), but I CAN tell you that I have never gotten something at this restaurant that I haven't loved. Not liked--Loved, like "can't-wait-for-the-next-bite" Loved. First off, the ambiance is perfect--quiet, but not awkwardly or conspicuously so. The music is always kept at a nice level and the service is always on-point, friendly, accommodating, detail-oriented. I don't know what goes on in that kitchen behind the divider, but it must be something magnificent, because when I tell you that you can taste different colors from the food here, I actually mean that you will be tasting actual colors that you've never seen before and the sense data will filter from your taste-buds through your bloodstream and into your brain where pleasure sensors will release serotonin in large quantities. And then, the next time you take a bite, some other color replaces the four new ones you just saw, and so on and so forth. Get the Chrysanthemum Tea (duh), and please do yourself a favor and get the Pad Thai for God's sake, because it tastes like a hundred things zooming around in your mouth, but it's really just noodles with eggs and sprouts and onions and peanut sauce. And it's not too spicy; or expensive--if you make it by lunch the Pad Thai is $8, (dinner $11). The Calimari you can get grilled or not (can't go wrong with $7) or get the Corner Rolls (seriously) "Rice paper roll with lettuce, carrot, basil leaves and chicken served with our homemade sauce (ask for vegetarian) 5.95." As far as Curry is concerned, this is your place even if you like the "jungle" variety, and Drunken Noodles? You can get it "non-spicy" and nobody looks at you weird. Look at this one taken from their menu: Pad Corner Our special dish in the house, stir-fried Pumpkin, jalapeño, basil leaves, onion and bell pepper with chilli sauce Come on--as they say in Jersey. This place is the real thing. And I will be wiping sweat off my brow no matter how many people tell me that "it's not spicy." And I will continue to eat with chopsticks despite many repeated attempts to stop me! Written--(not emblazoned)--on the wall in Corner Thai Cafe off the beaten path in Westerly, Rhode Island, maybe eye-level, is the phrase: "Happiness does not depend on what you have or who you are. Round 2 was a success! The marinated pork ribs and OMG the drunken noodles were to die for. The ribs were as tender as if they were braised.... Delicious. :D as for the Drunken Noodles I must say that I've never seen it made with Chinese Glass Noodles before, but apparently it is the traditional way of making drunken noodles. People tip accordingly!!! She was sweet and didn't rush or seem at all impatient that our eating dinner kept them open past close. Fried calamari app was delicious - big rings, crispy crunchy, NO grease , spicy sauce! Pad See Ew & Fiery Pad Thai were both delicious (great twist on my boring normal chicken pad Thai order), as was the Thai Iced Coffee. Wow, a hidden gem inside a plaza tucked in the back right corner. I was greeted by the owner Siew and knew I was gonna have a great dining experience. After a round of golf, I was craving a Thai Ice Tea. It definitely quenched my thirst. Not overly sweet like other places. I wanted a nice Tom Yum shrimp soup and boy was I surprised that it came with 2 big shrimp and the depth of flavors you can tell was made with LOVE. I was recommended to try the Pad Ga which is a stir fry ( I got the combo) enhanced with Thai basil and various vegetables and topped off with a fried egg. We often visit Westerly and we are always in search of great local restaurants. After trying to find a thai restaurant we stumbled upon the Corner Thai Cafe. I have to say I thought I had good thai food at home (NYC) boy was I wrong! This place is amazing! I have been here twice so far and it's consistent! I have had the thai style dumplings, chicken wings and the pat thai. Everything was so fresh and seasoned well. I think we will visit this restaurant every visit. The restaurant itself is small and intimate and offers a very cozy feeling. The owner and staff are very sweet and it shows that they take pride in their cooking.
