I love hole in the wall Mom & Pop coffee shops, IF they have good food and service... Remember Mel's Diner? This was retro like that but so much bigger and brighter but talk about attitude! Laying on my Mom's kitchen table was a take out menu for The Corner Coffee Shoppe. I opened it up and noticed that she had quite a few things circled, a grilled reuben, liver and onions ( yuck ) and a slice of coconut cream pie. Well two out of three sounded good, so I asked my brother and sister in law if they wanted to join me at Ken's the next day, breakfast worked for them and so we went. On the outside it reads The Corner Coffee Shoppe, but when you pay your receipt will read the same but with Ken's name in front of it. The place is huge with booths and chairs of red vinyl and metal tables with formica tops. There is a long counter to one side with swivel stools that are screwed down, picture the longest counter you have ever seen. Being close to Valentine's Day they were decorated very tastefully but it was an abundance of hearts, silk roses in vases, red and white lights everywhere, heart shaped wreaths, you could not have put up one more decoration if you tried, they even had them hanging from the ceiling. Before you reach the long counter area on the right there is a large reach in refrigerator with homemade cream pies and lemon piled high with meringue. They also have fruit pies galore, egg custard and pumpkin. They have ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes and a soda fountain and many homemade cakes, apple dumplings and Boston cream pie. Stop right there, I give them five shiny stars! I would not think twice about getting a dessert to go and admiring their coffee shoppe. The baked goods are all homemade and phenomenal! The pies and cake slices are like a fifth of the pie or cake and gigantic pieces and only $2.19! Now for $8. and change you can buy the whole pie or cake, what a bargain, but I wanted to take home a variety for my sweet toothed hubby to try. Okay now we get to breakfast and the server we had. I had a large tomato juice, they had coffee, my sister in law and brother ordered western omelets and home fries. I wanted to make an egg sandwich, my way, so I ordered two eggs scrambled with cheese adding onions, green peppers, mushrooms, an English muffin and a side of mayo. I also ordered a side of the lousiest bacon I have ever had in my life. Three strips of tissue thin sliced deep fried lousy bacon. I asked for onions and green peppers in my home fries and they were good.. Oh my gosh TJ's world came crumbling down and she shouted at me, " You can't do that, they will never let me put this in the kitchen, they will ask me why I ordered it and rang it in this way!." I wanted to say get a grip TJ, I'm ordering breakfast not putting in an order for one thousand shares of Cisco Systems! I explained to her what my intentions were of building my own sandwich and she said "get an Omelet" and so I did! I reminded her that I wanted an English muffin and she piped back, well you did not say that as she scribbled and rewrote, ugh. For a fact I said it cause I even asked my brother and sister in law if they wanted a muffin or toast, plus before wanting an egg sandwich I inquired as to whether or not they had english muffins. As she was walking away both my brother and sister in law asked what was her name and I said " attitude" and they both said uh huh! My omelet arrived so brown it was not even funny and I said oh my gosh the eggs are burned, my sister in law happens to like her eggs hard and my brother was starving so they just ate it. The server totally ignored my announcement, so I went about making myself the worst omelet sandwich I have ever had, the pepper and onions were raw, no attempt was made to cook them yet my eggs were brown. One star for breakfast and TJ. I may go here and love soups, sandwiches and entrees as much as I did the homemade desserts, who knows, I will not return for breakfast, for sure. read more

im not one to complain as i have worked in the service industry myself but this was the worst experience i have ever had. when we were first sat it took awhile for anyone to acknowledge we were even there and when we finally got to order we sat and waited for an hour while everyone around us got their food (they came in after us and me and my boyfriend both ordered a basic meal) when we finally got our food it was ice cold, i didn't get my sausage, i found a hair in my food, and the waitress brought the check not even 5 minutes after we got our food. overall just a very disappointing experience read more

Darling retro cafe in a strip mall - grey lineolum with pink and grey wallpaper, upholstered metal chairs with wainscoting and ceiling fans - nothing fancy here. But a very good breakfast - good coffee by a coffee snob's standards with terrific French toast. Would have been five stars but food was just a tad cold for me - personal taste. Choose this spot over Denny's or IHOP for local color. read more

The service here is great, our breakfast came out really fast, even with the restaurant being pretty busy. The food was good, I got a vegetable omelette and the size was perfect. I went to CCS a few months ago, having my heart set on the ham pot pie. When the waitress set the ham pot pie on my table, I thought, this is not my order, I did not order soup! I asked the waitress where were all the noodles and everything, and she said they use dough balls now, which was I could barely see any kind of dough in it. To me it was exactly like potato soup. I remember when the previous owners made the ham pot pie, it was absolutely fantastic. You got a huge plate of humongous noodles, lots of ham and sauce. Wow did it change for the worse. I hope they get enough complaints about the ham pot pie and change it back, because I sure miss it. If you have to raise the price, I would still order it. Otherwise, this is a nice restaurant with friendly employees. read more

Was very disappointed to walk in there at 9 am today to find the place very full, NO social distancing, people seated back to back where if you tilted your head back, you'd hit the other persons head! I don't know what degenerate managed the reservations but our reservation was simply left in the dust after just calling the night before. After talking to both hostesses at the front desk, the conclusion was that nobody had said a word about our reservation to any other employees at the restaurant. Not our problem for hiring garbage staff members. This rating may potentially change when they find some useful staff members. read more

This is the second Friday ordered fish dinners for pick up. My wife called the orders in, both both approx. 20 minutes . Both time the dinners were not ready, never put in the system. Meanwhile 5 or 6 pick up meals were sitting on a counter. The order taker wanted the phone number, then ok for Bob. I arrived to a line of people trying to get their orders, the cashier was busy dealing with patrons who were dine in. Apparently pick ups were of no interest to manager. When I arrived, none of the Staff had masks on, when i questioned, i was told that masks are not required. Very upsetting at the lack of respect in this establishment. Overall good breakfast stop in Richland. I don't know what people expect it ain't fine dining but it definitely gets the job done. in last 2 months we've visited twice, both times severely disappointed. in December our food took an hour and we were told hold up was my sons hotdog! we eventually just had boxed up to go and left. We frequent this place at least once when we visit from va. The staff is l friendly && the food is good. Gravy was kinda thick not sure if I would get that again. The potatoes were amazing!!! Just moved out here and my husband took me to this diner to celebrate our moving. I do not have the words to describe my satisfaction and joy. Came here a few days ago on a Saturday morning around 10:30. They were fairly busy but not enough where people were waiting for tables. It took about 45 min after ordering to get our food, in which I was most displeased. I ordered the veggie omelette that comes with home fries and toast, and my friend ordered the cinnamon toast and fruit. Unfortunately, they put ham in my omelette so I had to wait more for my order, but they were speedy about it the second time. Our waitress was really nice and apologetic about the wait and my order. Omelette was good, home fries were great as long as you like the kinds slathered in butter (which I do), and everything else was standard. Not sure how this place maintain a 4 star rating. Possibly the XL portions of greasy, fast-food quality fare? Hostess was less than friendly, atmosphere/decor are really generic. I'd read on Yelp that breakfasts here are good, so I ordered a cheese omelet with home fries and a biscuit. The omelet was greasy, flat, and generally gross. I was surprised when I opened my biscuit and found it pre - slathered with some kind of butter substitute. I get the feeling this place just doesn't give a shit. The worst part of the experience was being seated next to a party of 4 with 2 really unruly kids and adults content to let the kids shriek, scream, and crawl over and under the booths for well over half an hour. With all the available seating, this was really hard to stomach. As I was walking out the door, another family with a tantrum-throwing child was walking in. Got to my car and realized I can actually smell the grease permeating my clothing! I totally regret stopping here. I won't be back. read more

Stopped here while passing through and the food was delicious. The service was great and the food was cheap. The coffee was amazing. The menu is huge. I would definitely stop here again. One thing we noticed, however, is that in a very full restaurant, we were the only people under 65. I doubt that's a concern for anyone, but be aware it caters to a geriatric crowd. Their menu reflects that too as it offers a lot of items that appeal to a Depression Era crowd, i.e., a lot of beef and potatoes and pot roast and other hometown favorites. I have eaten at the Corner Coffee Shoppe many, many times and have never had a bad meal. The deserts are great but I get filled up with the meal and can't eat a desert so we usually get on to take home! The gob cake is to die for!!! OH and the PIe!!! Out of this world!!
