Came here after Skyzone, the service was good. My kids ordered the Mac and Cheese with bacon it was a good sized portion and comes with bread. Their cookies were nice and soft. This was my first time visiting Corner Bakery, and unfortunately, it was not a good experience. When it was my turn to order, I asked the cashier, Andrew, if he had any recommendations since I'd never been there before. He simply told me that everyone has different tastes and couldn't recommend anything. While I understand that preferences vary, I was hoping for a suggestion of a popular item or a staff favorite. After ordering, I waited in the pickup area. I saw Andrew bagging an order, and when he called out a name, I couldn't hear it clearly. I walked up, and instead of confirming my name, he even asked if I wanted utensils and then handed me the bag. Since he was the same person who took my order, I naturally assumed it was mine. When I got home and opened the bag, I realized I had been given someone else's order. I immediately called the store, and Andrew told me he had called "Michelle" and that my order was still there. I had to drive all the way back to exchange it. What disappointed me most was that I never received an apology. Instead, I felt like I was being blamed for the mix-up, even though my name was never confirmed before the order was handed to me. Mistakes happen, but good customer service means taking responsibility and apologizing for the inconvenience. I ordered the Uptown Turkey Avocado Sandwich and a lemonade. I was given a number and went to find a table which took a couple of tries as many hadn't been cleaned. My number was called in about 5 minutes and I picked it up at the counter. The lemonade was okay, far more tart than sweet. The sandwich (which came with chips) was much better than expected. The bread - some sort of whole grain - was lightly toasted. The thick deli turkey was plentiful and the lettuce and tomato were fresh. this visit was disappointing. to be fair, the place was clean even on a busy sunday, and the staff seemed to be doing their best to keep up with the rush. unfortunately, the food and drinks were a letdown. my parents got the shrimp scampi linguini, and the noodles were badly overcooked with barely any flavor. it was bland enough that they ended up adding a lot of salt just to make it taste like something. i also got the cold brew with vanilla cream, and that was just as underwhelming. it tasted watered down and flat. what makes this more frustrating is that i used to order from this location all the time when i worked in bella terra, and the food was consistently much better back then. i know this brand can do better because i've had much better meals at other locations. hoping this location improves because the drop in quality was hard to ignore. read more

DC Chicken Salad Sandwich is delicious: love the crunchy almond slices with juicy sweet raisins. It's the size my palm but still a good portion. As soon as I walked in, I had a feeling. Unfortunately the employee who helped, made it difficult to order what was wanted and kept making it harder almost to the point of walking out. There wasn't many people in dinning and was there was no line. So I'm not sure what the rush was about and the confusion of the order but we eventually figured it out. I'm really not liking the situation with Corner Bakery Cafe with the closest location to me dwindling in quality, and the next two closest locations closing for good. This is the next closest location to me, and unfortunately, this one is finding ways to do even worse. As a Corner Bakery Rewards member, I get $5 off $15+ coupons on a quarterly basis, but they're only good for a month, quite the absurdity as I believe it should be used anytime during the quarter, not just during the first month of each quarter. In my opinion, the best way to spend $15+ is to Choose Two premium items. Did you notice I capitalized Choose Two in the last sentence? This is a combo option at Corner Bakery that is comparable to Panera Bread's You Pick Two. In both "best of both worlds" combos, you can choose two smaller-sized entrees at a price point that is less than the sum of the individual prices. I don't have a go to for Panera's You Pick Two as it would depend on my mood at the time. However, I have a go to for Corner Bakery's Choose Two: Shrimp Scampi Linguine, Chicken Rosa Pasta, and Mixed Greens Salad. This is my meal of choice whenever I go to any Corner Bakery Cafe as I feel you get the most bang for your buck that way. Pasta dishes come in two sizes: cafe and entree. I don't know how much a cafe size is compared to entree size, but I'd say it's a little more than half an entree. A la carte, this Choose Two would run you about $27, but with the Choose Two option plus my $5 off $15, my total was less than half that. Great savings! Unfortunately, the food itself was not so great. In comparison to when I went to a Corner Bakery in San Antonio last year, this one was indubitably pale without question. The bowls I got here were a little smaller than what I got in the Lone Star State, and the small plate of salad was just all around flaccid. It was a real struggle trying to grab each piece of lettuce with my fork, especially with a small plate that offers minimal room for error should you be a total klutz with silverware. The salad came with the dressing already on unlike the other locations where you'd get a cup to regulate the amount to pour onto your salad. The bowls of pasta were pipin' hot, but that unfortunately did not mean full of flavor. The Shrimp Scampi Linguine was, to put it in nice terms, bland and greasy. I had to add a ton of sea salt and pepper to give it the flavor that I so desired, but the shakers themselves proved to be an ordeal as I couldn't tell how many grains of each seasoning were emitted with each back and forth movement, in a pretty forceful manner no less. The puddle of grease at the bottom of the bowl upon completion of the Shrimp Scampi Linguine was a sad sight to behold that I no longer wanted to engage once I finished the last bite of linguine and tomato. The Chicken Rosa Pasta is the one pasta dish I highly recommend getting at Corner Bakery because of how bold the flavor is, but I'm sad to say this one fell short as well! While there was more flavor compared to the shrimp pasta, it was nowhere near as prominent as the same pasta I had at any of the other locations. I'm certain I would have enjoyed the Pesto Cavatappi and Chicken Carbonara, both of which also incur the premium upcharge, but who's to say I would have given a third star here? Especially with the lack of service from the employee who handed me my order; either she was having a bad day, or she really wanted to be elsewhere on a Wednesday evening. Not once did she or her co-worker who took my order go out to the dining tables and clean up after customers who left. Granted, it was mostly empty, but seriously, the lack of work ethic I witnessed was mind-boggling to say the least. At least the co-worker behind the register showed some customer courtesy when ringing me up. Several tables inside had crumbs on them, and there was a table at the near corner that was never cleaned up during my stay there. Also, at the corner of the counter with various choices of drinks available, I saw two napkin dispensers, but no napkins inside! I suppose they saw no need for napkins there as indicated by the generous stack I was given for my meal. But then again, why even have empty napkin dispensers in the first place? This Corner Bakery Cafe is located at Bella Terra in Huntington Beach. It's on the north side of Edinger between Gothard and Beach, not too far from the 405. It shares an outdoor patio with Chronic Tacos, and there is plenty of seating for al fresco dining. I'm sooooooooo close to Platinum Status, but I'm afraid it'd all be for naught if Corner Bakery continues to underperform in every category. If they can take all my feedback to heart and address each bit in a diligent manner, then I can see a comeback happening, but as it stands, the future still looks pretty bleak. I wouldn't be surprised if more locations close later this year. read more

A lazy Saturday walking around Bella Terra with my husband to get some steps in. We stopped by here for a quick breakfast. My husband is a pancake afficianado so it's always interesting to hear his opinion wherever we go. These were "thin but had a nice flavor". He ordered the chicken sausage as his meat side and let me have one. It had great sausage seasonings so it didn't really matter that it was chicken. It's interesting that you can easily sub other meats and still have a satisfying sausage, but no way can you do this with bacon. Turkey bacon and veggie bacon are disgusting, and I'm not really sure why someone would be satisfied with these substitutions. Unless you are trying to eat healthy or for religious reasons. Side note - why don't they make bacon out of beef? I had the Commuter croissant which was a croissant with bacon, cheddar, eggs and tomato. Small but good, the tomatoes really added a nice freshness. Unlimited free refills on iced tea and coffee. This place is kept very clean by a nice woman continuously wiping down tables and taking care of trash.
