We originally had issues with our HVAC (AC) not cooling properly for the first and second levels of our home. In the past we had another HVAC service firm whom we parted ways with due to unsound business practices (they suggested replacement of $5,000 AC units even though they only had a small leak. The other firm also replaced parts that could have been fixed and there was a pattern of constant upsell and overcharging (we verified this with independent professionals). This led us to Cork's here in Huntley, and it was a great decision. Cork's sent someone very quickly, even though there were many other customers with similar issues this time of year. Gil did the original inspection and then Frank (owner) came a day later as we had to wait for the coils to defrost completely, which made sense. Both were very knowledgeable and trustworthy. They did not give me a bunch of BS about replacing the entire unit, but rather refilled the Puron and injected a dye/sealant. We will monitor it over the next year and call them if we notice issues. They suggested that these 2008 units should have a decent lifespan (possibly up to 20 years if built well) and that most repairs can be done part-wise as things are properly diagnosed over time and replaced. This built a lot of trust with me out of the gate. All of Frank's employees work directly for him, not on commissions, and you don't get the sense there's a constant 'upsell' or 'vague rationale' for larger more costly replacements. The other very great experience was this. We had two toilets that for over year now have been refilling their water tanks on their own constantly (and increasing water $). I replaced the intakes and flappers myself twice to no avail. Frank took the time to fix both toilets in a matter of minutes and knew exactly what the problem was, right during the service for the HVAC. It was nice of him to make the time as I know he was already in hurry to his next appointment but wanted to make sure I was a satisfied customer. Be sure you get a quote for completion of the whole job. Charged 3 hours labor to put a toilet in because he had to comeback another day. This is the third time they came back and they knew condition of the toilet. I was charged to replace the flange even though they knew what was happening and didn't quote that before. Charged from 7:30 AM when didn't arrive till 8:00 am said charges from when they leave office Office is 10 Minutes away( seems the average to next closest hour.They been several times and never had a problem and now will pay over $400 to replace one toilet. Everyone is so helpful. Lost heat thanksgiving day and Frank came over with a space heater. Got right on getting the necessary part; and eventually got heat working the next day. After getting a run around, from various plumbing companies, one day we saw a Cork's Plumbing truck, while we were out and about. That was a perfect day. We called them, told them what we needed and asked for a ballpark quote. Liz was terrific to deal with. Being we are senior citizens, on a fixed income, we are very frugal with our funds. After we got a quote, between such and such amount of dollars, we decided to give them a try. Wise move, on our part. We were given a time and date that the tech would arrive. Dave showed up, on time, with a mask and shoe booties, per our request and proceeded with the work. Did the job in a timely, and neat fashion , and got us a receipt. Surprisingly, it was lower than we expected. Shows a lot about the integrity of the company. In today's world, that kind of service is unheard of. I own a construction company and know most local companies. When the plumber I knew moved and retired, I tried Corks for my own home. They were extremely nice over the phone, did more than what I had asked for and came in at a very reasonable price. After meeting them at my home I realized their family owned company is very similar to my own in which they truly care about the customer. Had the same experience as another customer where the guy Frank literally yelled at me on the phone because I had the audacity to challange his bill. He came to the house and made a mess all over my laundry room floor. Didnt even wear the blue booties to cover his dirty boots. He asked me why I didnt say anything. Well how could I after he had already run up the stairs with them on! Kinda pointless and he was out the door so fast too! Came in said it probably needed a little clean.. he cleaned it and left a watery mess and the dirt all over the floor. I wasnt unwilling to pay him for comin out but disputed how much he should be paid. He hung up on me. I paid the bill in full because I did not trust that he wouldnt send me to collections! Not happy at all with the customer service of this company. They didn't show up twice, no phone call informing me they wouldn't be able to make it. I had to reach out to them both times to find out when they were coming considering it was past the appointed time frame. I believe they chose not to make me a priority because I wasn't interested in installing a new humidifier, it just needed to be fixed and they were estimating the cost of repair almost compared to the cost of replacing, sounded a little unjustified to me. However, they lost my business due to two cancelations within a week span and no communication informing me they wouldn't make it, only an option of rescheduling for a third time. I would not recommend seeking this company out for work, as they are not reliable. Within a months span it took to schedule with them, I could have had my humidifier fixed by now, very disappointed. read more
