An hour late to opening! This is like the 4th time these bozos have been late to open in very nearly as many days. If I am planning a beer kick session with friends this is CRAZY unacceptable. I know there are other places but this one's close and even though their selection is half ass at best, it's convenient that they are down the street from me. Went in looking for a hard to find beer, but walked out with three recommendations. What does a green curb mean? Is that 2 hour parking, loading zone, green means Go ahead and park there? The curb in front of Stearn's Liquor is green. I parked on the street and was inside about 15 minutes. I was approached and asked if I needed help. I asked for the hard to find beer with no luck but asked about recommendations. The employee was happy to offer some beers I should try. I walked out with three craft beers I have never tasted, new to me, ready for my enjoyment. You could buy one craft beer a day here and not make a dent in the numerous beers they have if you did it for 3 months. Beer, beer, and more beer. Some I have seen and some I have never set my eyes upon. One freezer wall of nothing but craft brews or micro-brews. No, there is no icee machine, they don't sell stale donuts, nothing but beer, wine, and some top shelf liquor. And the inside is so clean and open. No dusty beer here. One thing I noticed is the beer from the freezer is not as cold as it could or should be, should you feel the need to drink your beer within 5 minutes of buying it. Overlooking the not so cold beer, I think I will be coming here very often. read more

I've got to take a couple seconds to review Stearn's Liquor. Thanks to my good friend Derrick, I've become quite interested in the craft brew scene. Sorry Coors Light...we had some good times. This is quite possibly the best hidden jem in Long Beach. One of the co-owners named Danny knows his beer. He's stocking one of the best selections of hard to find brews that I've ever come across. Many beers here you can't find at BevMo. He also posts Beer Advocate ratings for some of his best beers. It keeps you from guessing whether a $10 bottle of beer is going to be a drain pour or not. If the store isn't busy, he takes the time to stand there and chat about his favorites and the different styles. It's nice to see someone who has some knowledge rather than just pointing you to an expensive random bottle. Store is clean and well taken care of. This is not your "average" liquor store. I am giving them three stars for- booze selection, beer selection (many craft beers) and wine selection. Best of all, they carry SKINNYGIRL margaritas. It is on the pricier side at $15.99 (Costco $11.99) but I can walk here so sometimes the extra $4 is worth not having to drive. I don't know much about the rest of their selection- snacks, etc. It looks pretty skimpy so that's why I won't give it the 4 or 5 stars. The employees are knowledgeable and friendly. My boyfriend and I went to Stearns liquor to star filling out our bar at home. I'd been by once before- but in between that time they added a ton of product as well as snappy looking product racks. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and answered our questions about a wide range of alcohol, and we went home happy with several different types of scotch, a bottle a root beer liqueur, and some wine. We went in on a weekend afternoon and it was mostly empty inside which was nice because it made for easy street parking outside. Good selection of whisky and scotches and we quickly found what we were looking for: a pricey (correctly priced that is) Japanese whisky which was a birthday present. This guy saved me a ton of looking around. I had tried a craft brew by New Belgium over Christmas called "Sahti." It's amazing, but unfortunately not a regular beer in their line-up. So I have my local BevMo and chance since that's where I bought the first couple of bottles, but no dice. They can't get anymore until they brewery makes it again. (Probably in another 10-11 months.) SO, I check the New Belgium website and the closest place to me that carries "SAHTI" is Stearns Liquor, in an area I'm am quite familiar with. I call, the owner says he has some left, boom! I'm in my car to clean him out. Fair market price, nice clean, well stocked store, I could even smell the sweet perfume of cigars when I walked in the door. While it may be true that he may not *exactly* have LB's largest assortment of beers, he can get just about anything you can think of so I will be back to order some special brews from time to time. read more

This is a little neighborhood liquor store with a sign out front that says biggest beer selection in Long Beach. The sign was probably true until BevMo went in on PCH and 2nd St. Despite that, you will find a lot here. You will also find some things you won't find at BevMo. We've also wandered in when they are having a sale on one of our favorite beers and snatched up a case, so there are good deals to be had here. This place is a bit out of the way for us, and they do seem to run out of some things. However, it's a great little liquor store well worth stopping by if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Stearns Liquor has a large sign in front boasting, "We have the largest beer selection in Long Beach." I've driven by any number of times and snickered to myself, thinking, yeah right. Well we finally stopped in the other day, and it turns out, much to my pleasant surprise, they really do have an excellent beer selection. A full line of Stone, including the 11th anniversary and Vertical Epic 070707, the full line of Unibroue, the full line of Moylan's, obscure seasonal brews from New Belgium and Sam Adams, and a good variety of organic beers, to name a few. Not quite as much as you'd find at The Wine Country or Bristol Farms or perhaps Morry's, especially for foreign brews, but for microbrews this was pretty good, of course better than any regular grocery store, and pretty amazing for a liquor store. Besides all that, the owner actually came out from behind the counter and talked to us and asked if we had any questions or needed any recommendations. When's the last time that happened at a liquor store? I talked to him for a little bit and he passed the test, he really does know his beers quite well. I think it's incredible that he is actually able to stock this kind of selection - I wish I had known about this back in my CSULB days. Beer enthusiasts should definitely check it out. We ended up leaving with 3 or 4 bags worth, including some Peak Organic nut brown ale, New Belgium Mothership Wit, and some Sam Adams Honey Porter. Good stuff, I will definitely be back. read more

This place is now called "Corked". Great selection of beer and even Mead! Prices are kinda high and one of the guys here with a man bun is very rude, who actually overcharged me on a sale item. Back in the old days, we used to call this place Stir Fry liquor, because the dude behind the counter was always eating something that smelled kinda funky and you could barter on the price of hard liquor, but that's neither here nor there. And thus stir fry liquor remained your typical run-down, dirty liquor store full of cheap booze and three aisles full of out of date beef jerky and Chinese made crap. That was until a couple of months ago when I noticed the 'south central' metal bars on the front of the store were being replaced by nice big windows that weren't full of ads for six packs of Natty light. I went in a few weeks ago and was blown away. Danny is one of the new owners, and he knows how to stock good beers. They have many of the best California and west coast microbrews- the stuff you don't see at Bevmo and guess what, they actually know something about the products they sell! I like to support people who take pride in their establishment and the products they sell. Go see Danny, buy some good beer and be happy that once again in Long Beach there is a liqour store that knows about booze. read more
