My calories burned during the 5 am workout class.
    Lisa A.

The staff was very welcoming. I took classes 3 different days from different instructors. They were all very good. They each had their individual style but exceptional workout! The studio is very clean and the infrared heating system is enough to get a good sweat. I'm super pleased that I was able to continue my yoga workouts while on vacation as a black tag member. It's close to the Ko Olina resorts. Love how CorePower has studios nationwide!

    Brand spanking new studio!

I went to a Core Power yoga class at Ward years ago, but remembered liking it so I decided to try out a class at the new Kapolei studio. The studio is located right across from Ruby Tuesday and next to Genki Sushi. Since I was already in the system, I couldn't take advantage of all the new customer promotions they are running which included a free week of classes. I paid the drop in fee of $28 and registered for the Yoga Sculpt class which is described as combining "free weights with CorePower Yoga 2 sequencing and cardio to intensify each pose while mixing in strength-training moves like squats, lunges and bicep curls." The instructor was awesome and I got a really great workout. I loved it, but couldn't handle the heat. The room was set at 95 degrees with no added humidity. Benefits of the added heat are stretching your muscles and detoxing your skin. All Hawaii Core Power Yoga locations have showers. They also sell water and rent mats and towels. You can check out their website for class schedules.

I've been meaning to try CorePower Yoga in Kapolei since it opened this past summer, but my work schedule never really allowed me to get a full week in for the trial. My only other hot yoga experience has been with a Bikram hot yoga studio. Bonnie was our instructor and she was awesome. She was very in tune with the entire class population which was a mix of yoga-newbies, hot yoga newbies all the way to the moderate yogis. I thoroughly enjoy the core portion of the class and thoroughly enjoyed this challenging workout. Walking in, I did not know that this particular class would have heat, so Mary and I were ill-prepared, but we are in good shape and we had our water bottles, so we were good. After this class I fully intend to come back for my week very soon and try and work in a membership (again, if my work schedule allows) CorePower Yoga kicks and I whole heartedly recommend this studio for anyone looking for a fun, challenging workout.

Location: plaza behind the new Marshalls. Be sure to take the first left or park in front of Marshall's and walk a bit if parking gets tight. Inside: clean, welcoming, well maintained studios and equipment, amazing infrared heat (not at any of the other CorePower Hawaii studios), showers and changing rooms were clean too (3 showers and two bathrooms in the women's area) and consistent CorePower style/culture Staff: very friendly, inviting, and eager to help C2 Class: took Bonnies class and such a good sweat! Loved the variation of the core focuses we did too! I haven't done a C2 class that really pushed the obliques like we did today! It was a challenge but really needed :). Such a great gem for the westside! The perfect place for yogis on the go! Definitely going to be dropping in, bringing in my west side friends/family when I'm on this side of the island!!

Love yourself gals and boys and start the New year with Hot core yoga at this Kapolei studio. You take advantage of their 5 free classes before you commit. It was a fantastic workout for me today. Studio location wasn't easy to find behind the Denny's . Clean and airy rooms. Clean bathrooms ladies. They have showers if you need and lockers for personal items. Do take your own mats and towels. First visits they do offer. Parking not too available so first come first gets front. Gone there twice and looking forward to continuing. Manager is very informative and she also teachers classes. Give yourself this opportunity Hawaii, even if you visiting family visit Core yoga Kapolei and work out all those kinks from the plane ride.

Gorgeous new studio in Kapolei! I first visited during their grand opening and absolutely loved it. CorePower is always spotless no matter what studio you go to but there's something about a BRAND NEW studio that makes me want to reactivate my membership.

They have a $99 first time student intro offer so this was perfect for me. My first class here was the Wednesday 60 min hot yoga candlelight and it was just what I needed at the first time. I'm not a huge sweater but with all the stresses I was dealing with and the amazing teacher I was covered in sweat and felt so relieved after my first class. I immediately enrolled in the Saturday 90 min class. Now that I've been coming for about 3 weeks I have seen improvement in my flexibility and have been managing my stress level tremendously. I have been doing the weekly candlelight and 90 day Saturday classes. I will update once I am able to attend the Monday yin and Saturday Pilates classes but I've been told both classes are great as well. I have attended classes from all 3 teachers and though their styles vary slightly I have felt amazing after classes with each 3. There are locker rooms to leave your personal belongings while in classes and clean showers and restrooms. Which is a huge plus. The owner is amazingly supportive and encouraging as well.

We did not know that it was in a residential area and there was no parking available when we arrived 15 mins early. Maybe because there was a garage sale that weekend and there was no street parking anywhere else. We ended up parking in front of their house which was not one of the designated offered spot. We barely made it to class. The other small issue was the teaching. She would verbally give the instructions but not perform most of the poses. I haven't done yoga in a while so that was a bit confusing for me. I had to keep looking at the other students for guidance. The pace was a bit unsteady during the middle of the session. It started off good, one breath one movement but in the middle she gave a few instructions that was more like half a breath and one movement. We did have a good workout overall. It seems there's a lot of regulars that knew her way of teaching and they didn't have any problem following her during the class. The students were very welcoming and nice to us newcomers. They also had incredible strength and stamina doing the head stand. My friends and I were quite impressed.

When I was a four, the Little Mermaid was one of the first movies I saw in theaters, and from then…read moreon, I was hooked. I had mermaid bed sheets, mermaid dolls, watched every mermaid show I could, and even wore little diving rings onto my ankles to keep them together like a fin when I swam. To me being a mermaid meant that I could live in the ocean (my favorite place), be friends with sea creatures (loved dolphins too), and could sing to my hearts content (my other favorite thing to do other than swimming). Fast forward 24 years and Ariel is still my favorite princess, I collect more mermaid memorabilia then the average person (books, art, etc.), and I've been guilty of slipping into a mermaid imagination every so often when I'm swimming alone. Needless to say, my fascination (or obsession ;) ) has only grown. When I found out about Kari's "Fin to Fitness" on facebook I was instantly interested. You mean there was a way to live out my mermaid fantasies and get fit at the same time??? Sign me up! I contacted Kari through her email and phone (both on her mermaidkariel.com site) and secured a spot for my best friend and I to try it out on a Saturday. She makes it easy to pay (paypal or cash) and the class is $25 for Ihilani guests or $35 for non guests. Now before you balk at the price (trust me I'm a penny pincher who hates paying $33 monthly for 24 hr), I'll have you know this class is the most fun I've had in a fitness class ever! The class we took started at 11am on a Saturday, so we parked in the parking lot of Ihilani (parking is free with class validation) and made our way up to the 5th floor from the parking garage elevators. There is a private lap pool and deck that is part of the spa where Kari conducts her class. Luckily the class was small (only 3 of us) but the capacity is 10. She introduced us to the concept of mermaid swimming (she is a mermaid performer professionally) and explained which muscles are engaged and it keeps her in shape (her body is rocking!). We began with stretches on yoga mats next the pool and then did some strength exercises using our abs and lower backs (I honestly wish there were more of these). Then she had us stand up and practice the mermaid motion we would be using in the water (harder than you think). We were fitted with mono fins (think snorkel fins fused together) and got to watch her demonstrate in the pool....in her mermaid tail!!!! (maybe I'm the only one who thought this was awesome but her tail looks so shimmery and beautiful and she moved so gracefully!) Once in the water we put on our monofins and she worked with us one on one (sans tail) to make sure we were engaging our abs, butt, back etc. and doing the movement right. Because our class was small, we got a lot of one on one time with her. After she approved our "technique" we were free to start practicing up and down the length of the pool, enjoying the feeling of swimming like a mermaid with our feet fused in the monofin. I was able to move on to the next step which was swimming on my side using the same movement (harder to swim straight). Before I knew it, the hour class was over...but the fun wasn't! She gave us all certificates of completion which included a code for $5 off a mono fin on her website (she sells them!). Then we took pictures with her mermaid tail laid over our legs (one by one) as a souvenir photo that she is going to photoshop and send to us! Overall I had an awesome time and will definitely be back! I think the class (with all the extras) is worth the cost, especially since it's so unique...where else can you learn to swim like a mermaid and burn calories! From the fitness side of it, it really didn't feel like a workout, but let me tell you the next day I had sore muscles....a true testament! If you ever dreamed of swimming gracefully as a mermaid when you were a little girl (and I know there are more of you out there) then this is truly an experience for you!
