CorePower is a franchise so it's always the instructor that makes the classes. I love this location even though it's a drive from me and shared building with a hospital. There is ample parking. They have two studios here one for yoga and the other for sculpt classes. Studio 1 has a view of the water and the dominos sugar sign that makes it such an iconic place to practice yoga. The rooms are heated, which is the best. I will say it's not a newer studio so sometimes you see dust bunnies on the ceilings when you're laying in savasana. With a lack of yoga studios in the area - CorePower dominates the scene with three studios in the sixth but it's always a great class!

So happy I joined core power a couple months ago! I discovered my love for this franchise back in AZ and very happy to have one so close to me here in Federal Hill. Everyone who works here is super friendly and patient. All the instructors really take the time to help you improve and also make you feel comfortable in your practice. An added bonus is they have a little section to shop mats, leggings bras etc and if you're a member you sometimes can get really good discounts. Love this place and can't wait to keep taking classes here

Interested in trying out CorePower's signature flow my SO and I signed up for a class. We were warmly greeted and guided through the sign-in process. It only took a few minutes and is completely digital making record-keeping a cinch. Initial impressions were positive. Staff were friendly and attentive. There is a small retail section with racks of clothes, yoga gear and accessories. You can see segments of the harbor skyline and iconic Domino Sugar sign through the large windows. I went to change before class and the facilities were practically spotless. Large wooden lockers to safely stow your stuff; you can obtain a lock and key at the front desk should you forget your own. Ample room to change and a wide array of personal care products (mouthwash, lotion, Q-tips, etc) along the sink; all the amenities one would expect at a higher-end studio. The main studio is clean, quiet and dimly lit. It's the kind of space conducive to warming up, focusing on your breath and starting to integrate on your mat. Our instructor was prompt, focused and energetic. She led us through a challenging 'Baptiste Inspired' class with creative sequences and flexibility for those at a variety of levels. Whether you feel like moving into an inversion, holding an Asana or taking a resting posture it's about where you are and what your body is capable of that day. Final verdict. A lovely studio with upbeat and seasoned instructors offering a range of classes to fit your schedule and experience.

    Main lobby, nice swag!

Unsurprisingly, most of the negative reviews are from people trying to deal with their gift certificates or gift cards since they are not able to provide reasonable service to people unfamiliar with their procedures. Throughout the process, I had to chase the owner, Gary, repeatedly over text and phone in order to get any information. A list of things I wish I knew before attempting to use a gift certificate here: I was alone in the building, not just the room, with an unknown man. Zen and the City is a therapist-owned establishment that has appointment-only booking for services. In light of this description, I probably should have known that I would be alone with my massage therapist. Except the website contains none of that information, which I only learned about after the appointment, so I was blindsided. My massage therapist was a very nice man who did his best to make me feel welcome and taken care of (Thank you, Anthony. You were the only good part of this whole experience!), but it was hard to set aside how uncomfortable it was to be alone with a strange man without knowing before that no one else would be there. The gift certificates (physical) and gift cards (e-cards) are redeemed in different ways. The website doesn't make it clear (either in the description or during the purchase) that physical gift certificates are only redeemable for a specific service, and that the gift certificates and gift cards are considered two different products. When I got the certificate for Zen and the City, neither my father (who bought this as a gift) nor I knew there was a difference between the two until after I had my appointment and was told otherwise. If you redeem the service-specific gift certificate for the wrong service by mistake, Zen and the City will not inform you of the mistake when you book your appointment and will instead pocket the remaining money without further services or refund, even after their error is pointed out to them. I suspect they would have prevented me from redeeming the gift certificate for something that was MORE money than the one I used, but when I accidentally used it from something that cost LESS, I was only told afterwards when I couldn't fix my mistake, or receive a refund for the balance. The initial confirmation text message is meaningless. It doesn't accurately reflect that an appointment's successfully been made (because you get a text regardless), and it does not result in you being correctly signed up to receive text messages. Instead, they will contact you by email, no matter your indicated preference (which they don't know anyway because they never ask for your preference). If there is a problem with your email address, they will not use your phone number to follow up. There will be no further attempt to contact you. I'll be honest and admit that I made quite a few mistakes in attempting to deal with Zen and the City, and I accept the responsibility of those mistakes. However, I think it's important for future potential customers to know beforehand that this is the kind of business that is happy to take advantage of your confusion, your mistakes, or your unexpected illness (check out their sick policy). It's up to you whether you want to risk giving this place your money and time.

From the instructors to fellow members, the atmosphere is just so welcoming and non-judgemental. Becoming a regular and being greeted by name seriously makes my week! My favorite instructors and classes are the following: C2 with Leah - you can tell she puts so much intention behind her flows. She often starts with a brief excerpt at the beginning of class and I'm not sure if she finds them somewhere or writes them herself, but they are always concise and meaningful and her voice is SO soothing. I love her careful and supportive assists throughout class. C2 and yoga sculpt with Payton - her classes are always challenging but in a good way. I feel stronger and more energized afterwards. She gives you time to play and try out more advanced poses. We recently tried flying splits which I would've never attempted on my own! Yoga sculpt with Eliya - Eliya's playlists are always on point! Her classes are challenging and fun. I always get such a great sweat in and I love her vibe. I look forward to her 4:30pm Friday sculpt all week! C2 with Eleanor - Eleanor does a great job queuing poses and helping you make adjustments without even needing to do hands-on assists. Her flows are often really creative and fun. I'm also a big fan of the CSX classes but just don't find as much time in my schedule to give them a go. Kira and Hayden are both great CSX teachers! Beyond the classes and the people, I can confidently say I've seen a transformation in both my practice and my body. I've gotten stronger, more balanced, and grounded as a result. I'm able to do poses and expressions that I used to struggle with and my chaturanga is the strongest it's ever been!

In particular, Anita's C2 at The Rotunda is a very good class. She brings the right balance, especially versus other CorePower classes I've taken, between the meditative aspects of yoga, the teaching and pushing the exercise. She gives good cues and options for arm balances and inversions, which I enjoy. I've found, in general, that CorePower's C2 will be an uncertain experience with regard to its challenge level, so Anita is a reliable teacher in this way. It is 4 and not 5 stars because of what I stated above: there are not as many challenges as I prefer. I see C2 as being a little closer to a beginner level class than intermediate. I have heard that C3 is good, but it is very hard to find. More C3 please?

I think it's $17 for the average class, but they also offer $6 community classes that fill up so get there early! They also offer all of their classes by live stream for a lower cost if you prefer to practice at home! (They also offer membership and class pass options; I'm thinking of getting a class pack since it's a considerable savings!) I've only taken a class with one instructor so far (Billy J.), but I've loved his class so much, I'd love to try more instructors and more classes in the future. (I highly recommend Billy's hatha class; he and the class are approachable but the class is challenging and fun!) The building can be hard to find the first time but it's become part of why I love Yoga Union. It's in a small building tucked behind the light rail track and the new brewery in Woodberry. The only strange thing is that you have to cross the tracks to get to it. Pay attention to your GPS the first time, and you'll be fine! The building is pretty old - and it's sort of hot yoga by default (it warms up fast) - but not crazy hot or intentionally hot. You can hear the light rail trains go by which I find weirdly calming, too! The studio is just one room, with a check in area and a bathroom. The check in staff are very friendly. The classes I've taken have not been very crowded (unless a community class), and there has been room to spread out. It's easy to book and pay for classes online, too! I've enjoyed my experiences at Yoga Union, and I plan to keep practicing here regularly! Check it out!
