No matter where I've moved, I've always managed to find a studio and I'm so glad to have found BambooMoves in Locust Point! It's more than just a space where I practice yoga - it's a space that helps me reflect on things and take some much needed time for myself. I love the fact that it's walking distance from my home and that it has such a calming vibe. When I start at a new studio, there are always a few things I look for - clean, bright and open space, small class sizes, friendly teachers and the option to practice at my own pace. BambooMoves checks off all those boxes and so much more! Everyone at the studio is so friendly and welcoming and is always encouraging students to listen to their bodies and practice at the pace that feels most comfortable to them. There are classes for all levels as well as classes for people just starting out in their yoga practice. Signing up for a class is super easy as well. I'm talking throw me into the mouth of a fire breathing dragon, allow me to suffer a bit, sometimes tease me with a breath of fresh air, allow me to continue melting, and throw some positivity in to keep me from completely sputtering out. Thankfully, Breathing Dragon lives up to its name. This delightful hot yoga studio, which was converted from a core power yoga studio, has everything I need to be happily at home. Breathing Dragon IS absolutely hot. While a hot yoga room is ideal, teaching is VERY important to me. Mori, the owner, is exceptional!!! She is, what I would refer to in the yoga world, a Master Teacher. She is extremely knowledgable about the body, the yoga practice, has over 20 years of teaching experience, and radiates positive energy. She has funny jokes, inspiring quotes, and advanced corrections which is particularly important to someone like me who has almost 22 years of yoga practice. She walks around with a ruler, ensures proper alignment, and provided me with hands on corrections, which I just adore. Thank you, Mori. Her rays of sunshine alleviated (some of) my suffering - after all, I chose to practice in the hottest spot in the room (far left when facing the mirror). Mori did kindly advise me of that spot, but I love a challenge. Let me say, Mori's class is a pleasant challenge. I have practiced at 100s of studios around the US and other countries. I have very high standards. Mori meets Every Single One of them. Would I practice here again? Absolutely. The studio has showers, lockers (bring your own lock), towels/mats for rent, and cubby holes for shoes at the door. Mori of Breathing Dragon has fostered a beautiful community of welcoming practitioners. If you move to downtown Baltimore or just passing through and want to make friends or just simply meet quality humans, practice at Breathing Dragon.

I live in LA but travel through Baltimore often and love this studio. Similar to my LA studio, the…read morefloor is not carpeted which definitely minimizes lingering odors. If you are used to practicing regular yoga, i.e. without heat and on a wood floor, I can see why you might detect a sweaty odor in any Bikram studio. But since the point of Bikram is to sweat, most studios will have some odor and humidity. I've been practicing Bikram for 4 years - this studio is clean, not smelly, roomy and cozy. The teachers are uniformly excellent and they keep the room hot. Everyone is extremely nice and welcoming. The bathrooms are clean and there are three showers and numerous lockers if you want to lock up your stuff. I'm grateful to have Bikram Baltimore my home away from home! 11/1/19 - still love this studio. Consistently good teachers, clean and professional. If You are used to bikram yoga, you will find it a pleasure. If it's your first time, it's always a challenge but everyone here is nice and supportive

I just got back from my first Bikram Yoga class ever. I've done Ashtanga yoga before, but never hot…read moreyoga. When you first walk into the room, it's of course hot (as it's supposed to be), but smells like a wet dog. The floor is carpeted, and people sweat all over the carpet, but it honestly smells like they don't ever clean the carpet. It's honestly disgusting. On top of that, I went with a diabetic friend who also had never done hot yoga. The instructor, Barbara, recommended that we stay in the room, even if we can't do the moves, to receive the most benefit out of the class. She also told us it is normal to feel nauseous or light-headed during class. After about 15-20 minutes of class, my friend wanted to step out for a minute because she didn't feel well. Being diabetic, it is really easy to get dehydrated and she wanted a bit of fresh air so she could try to last through the whole 90-minute class. Barbara asked her to stay, and she didn't because it's ultimately her choice as to whether or not she steps out for air. After a few minutes, Barbara had us take a brief water break and stepped out to talk to my friend. She came back in shortly thereafter and made a few comments about how wrong and inappropriate it is for people to leave class. I don't care who you are or what business you're in, but it is NEVER appropriate to talk badly about a customer in front of other customers. Ever. For any reason. I asked my friend what happened after we left, and she told me that Barbara came out and just basically yelled at her for leaving class. She said she talked to her like a child, and told her she can't leave class and she can't be hanging around there because "she might steal something." She came out a while later and walked up front, diddled around at the front desk and kept an eye on my friend, making sure she didn't do anything wrong. Barbara never bothered to ask if my friend was okay (and she knew my friend was diabetic), she never asked if she had any blood sugar problems, or even tried to encourage her to finish the class. She barked at her like she was a dog and then accused her of trying to steal. In addition, after she came back in the class room at one point, she was going on and on about how different people have different thresholds and different capabilities and such. Yet, somehow, it wasn't okay for someone who didn't have a high threshold for heat to step out for a minute and catch their breath. I can tell you one thing, I will never give them my business ever again. Even if we had enjoyed the class and wanted to come back, after being treated that way as a new customer, it makes me not want to come back. How can you honestly treat new customers that way? I don't understand how someone can be so rude. I've never in my life had a yoga instructor be anything less than encouraging and caring. But if one instructor there is like that, I can't imagine what the others are like.

A love letter to The Sedona House…read more The Sedona House was the first place where I ever did yoga. All of the instructors always begin by reminding you to meet yourself where you are and that all of the movements are a suggestion and not a demand. I have had so many different classes with so many different instructors but they were all always welcoming and accepting in whatever way I arrived to class. The peace and calm that this studio has brought to my life cannot be properly written. I have cried and laughed during classes. I have grown stronger, not only physically but mentally. I feel such gratitude to this amazing piece of peace in Baltimore.
