We talked and i got some helpful interview tips, and got an interview (and ultimately the job where I am now) with a financial services company. I had a pretty good experience overall with the company, and would recommend checking them out if you are in the market for a job. One thing that could be improved on was follow-through, especially towards the end of the hiring process. I basically had the job in hand, but was waiting for confirmation...and I followed up with Core, but did not hear anything back. Perhaps it was the hiring company that dropped the ball, but it was a bit concerning that i basically had the job, but didn't have a specific start date nailed down. The hiring compnay stepped in and all was well, but keep that in mind. That may be how things go in these type of situations, so keep that in mind. I decided to send my information to them after reading about them in a Time Out NY article about top staffing agencies in NYC. I saw some questionable reviews on Yelp, but decided to go ahead anyway, to see for myself. Mitch and his team made me feel like part of a family, were actively interested in my well-being and growth as an administrative assistant, and were exceptionally sensitive to my school schedule. They found me stable jobs that worked with my schedule and paid well. Today I'm a successful physician and educator working in Philadelphia and still use many of the administrative skills I honed in working for Core. I started working for Core in 2003 when grantwriting jobs were no longer paying the rent. It was a discouraging time to work for a nonprofit. They kept me working steadily- and eventually they landed me a wonderful job in the fashion industry- and made sure I got a great salary. I never needed a second agency to keep me employed. I have only been with Core in NY. ( I have worked for temp agencies in Atlanta & in London - in those cities, I had to register with at least 2 to ensure I had steady work.) I haven't used temp agencies in 2-3 years but I still remember my experiences. Getting a job with them or not. With Core, I never got a chance. Catherine Giametta condescended to me over my Journalism degree, which looking back, is one of the things that fueled me into becoming what I am today. If I let the trash of life (i.e. Catherine Giametta) get me down, then I myself am no good. And I knew I was better than that. Regardless, my experience should never occur with someone out here that's hungry and trying to make it. I was desperate to make it and what happened was very uncalled for. Skip Core Staffing at all costs. I've read a lot of the other reviews here. Same happened with me. I set up an appointment with them, I came on time and then they didn't follow through. I was skipped over by a few people that came after me and then I was spoken to as if I was nothing. I called back and you-know-who gave me attitude. I sent emails, no response. I called back again and got hung up on like I was some kind of predator. What kind of company hires garbage like Catherine Giametta, who apparently is very limited as to what makes a job candidate. How come Kelly Services could see something about me that made me worthy and she didn't? Even K-Force and Robert Half thought I would make a good accountant, despite said Journalism degree. The one star is for the tutorials. They email me tutorials on different programs, whenever I ask, so I can brush up on certain things. Other than that, my recruiter (wont say her name)...tho she has a nice persona, her recruiter skills leave a lot to be desired. Aside from that fact that I have to literally call her every day, before she sends me on assignments.... when she does place me somewhere, it is not a good fit with what I am looking for, or my skill set. One job she sent me to, i already knew it wouldnt be a good fit but she convinced me to try it anyway, so I went. Being at that company was ALL WRONG for me. I called and emailed her daily to help me with an exit strategy but she didnt want me to leave (because the agency continues to get paid). This is the worst agency I have ever interviewed with. The downtown office is located in a beautiful office building giving the impression of a professional environment but the recruiter was condescending and rude. It was such a terrible experience that I took it upon myself to write the following letter to the company's president: After meeting with Allison Schneider today, I realize I don't have what your company is looking for in an employee. I was informed that I was "wearing too much perfume" when, in fact, I was wasn't wearing any. I explained this and was told to "change my hair products if I want a job." I was also told my blazer and blouse were "inappropriate". I am 39 years old and I don't think I've ever felt so humiliated in an interview in all my life. I don't know what you're background is Mr. Heine, but both of my parents were Cuban refugees that never went to college. I worked very, very hard to get into the masters program at NYU and started my own operatic concert series with which I raised enough funds to study and perform in four countries in Europe. I'm reading bad reviews from other Yelpers, but I have to disagree. I could see why they wrote the things they did, but from my past experiences, it's all about finding the staffing/recruiting agency that you're comfortable with. You definitely have to look around to find one that has recruiters that you trust, and you also have to be really patient as they come to know what type of employee you are. Just because you say you are a good employee doesn't mean you are one, right? It's also not a bad idea to work with more than one agency at a time so that you can get in more jobs. It also depends on what you're looking for at the moment too. I mean, they only get so many job listings, and it's their job to find someone who will best suit the role. They certainly aren't going to send anyone and everyone to their current job openings. Anyway, my experience at CORE was awesome. It took them about a month or two to get the ball rolling, but once I started to go in for jobs, the jobs kept coming in. I personally worked with Catherine Giametta, but I believe all the recruiters work together as a team. Finally after about two months of temporary one-day jobs, they helped me find a more long-term job that I am absolutely so grateful for. They knew my situation, knew what I was looking for, and they helped me find a job that fit my lifestyle. You have to realize that working with a recruiting agency is not going to guarantee a job. They can get you interviews, but that doesn't mean that you're going to get hired. That's up to the employer that is hiring, and it's up to you as well! Anyway, I highly recommend CORE Staffing. Core is awesome. Everyone I dealt with was professional and friendly (even the building doorman!). Paychecks, emails, answers to questions - everything was prompt and efficient. Everyone knew what they were doing. Pretty rare in this world! As you can guess by their Wall St. location, the majority of the positions they offer are administrative, and almost all are in Manhattan. They have temp, temp-to-perm, and permanent positions. As a temp you are technically a Core employee, paid through the agency, who bills the company you're temping at for your salary plus Core's cut of it. At your Core "interview" (which they require so their clients know Core isn't sending them crazies), you chat with a recruiter about what you're looking for and then take some computer proficiency tests. These are annoying but luckily you can also opt to take them at home. I had just returned from a year abroad, and after a month of bemoaning my lack of connections and how unfair the world was, I sent my resume to Core out of a desire to "just do something! anything!" while going on with my job search. I met with a recruiter and said I was looking for perm and temp-to-perm, but she said, "Actually if you're available immediately, I have a 3-month gig that might be good for you starting Monday! Let me send them your resume!" I was OK'ed and started working 4 days from my first visit to Core. And that temp position ended up leading to my permanent one at a great company. Yay! Other pluses: You can access all your paystubs and submit timesheets online. The space itself is sleek and clean (though I didn't like being interviewed in the cube farm while someone else got a private office.) I don't have experience with other employment agencies but from start to finish Core was just fantastic. read more

After getting my last (great) job through an agency, I figured I would try Core in my new job search. I have a lot of good work experience, especially for my age, but I'm trying to change my career path a little and thought an agency would help me do that more quickly. Before signing up with Core, I even got a part-time job in the field I'm switching my career to in order to build my resume in that field. I was paired with Caitlin and met her so we could go over my resume and skills. I immediately felt like she was being extremely condescending with me but had nothing to compare my experience against, since I'd only used an agency once before. When she asked what fields I'm interested in, I gave her a list of about 8 different (related) fields, and she wrote down ONE of them. When I corrected her, she sighed and wrote down a few more. Now just to note, these were totally normal fields, like communications and digital media, not some random far-reaching ones. Even though I made it clear that I wasn't interested in continuing to work in the last field I'd worked in (finance), she asked me multiple times if I wanted any jobs in finance. What happened next made me want to leave right then and there. I had worn a (very professional and appropriate) dress, tights, and boots to this interview; an outfit I've worn to actual job interviews and the office. Caitlin stared at me awkwardly -- in the middle of the interview -- and asked, "Do you like...own a pair of pants?" I had no idea what she was talking about or why she was saying it so rudely. "And do you have like...a blazer? To wear to an interview?" I was extremely insulted and felt like she was insinuating that I didn't look professional. Obviously, I wanted to be sarcastic and say, "I've never worn a pair of pants or a blazer in my life," but I just nodded in confusion. "Great," she said. "Because when you have, like, an actual interview, you should, like, wear that." She was wearing jeans. I left with Caitlin promising to send me jobs as they came in, whether temp or temp-to-perm, and she reassured me that she got plenty of jobs in my fields (hopefully she ended up writing down the ones I actually mentioned!) Well, of COURSE, I never received a SINGLE JOB from Caitlin. She didn't even email me a single job description or anything. I emailed her once a week for SIX WEEKS, and apparently not a single job in any of those fields came up. Wow. Not only do I feel discriminated against (no idea why) by this incompetent recruiter, I can't believe I wasted my time with this agency. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Core and especially Caitlin if you actually want to find a job. I had better luck on Craigslist than in this joke of a job agency. read more

Core is AMAZING. What you need to keep in mind when working for an agency is that there are a lot of moving parts - the right fit for you and the right fit for the client. I had very, very specific needs - special hours, location and high salary demands. Unlike other agencies that come to you with something so outrageous, you know they're just looking to place you and get their $$, or place "doorbuster" ads that don't even exist but get you in the door, this agency is honest and works with integrity. Core tried the BEST to check all of my must-have boxes. I worked mostly with Randi Gold and a bit with Doug Samberg. They call you early, don't make you feel guilty for saying "no", always professional and responsive. This is a cohesive team that works together to get you what you need. I have been registered with CORE for nearly two years now and have found them to be one of the best temp agencies with and through whom I've worked. The office itself is well-designed and immaculately clean. The one male receptionist (who may no longer work there) is a bit quirky. But you couldn't ask for a more thorough employee. The recruiters are phenomenal! My recruiter was excellent to me from minute one, has been excellent to every friend that I've referred, and even went as far as to update and revamp my resume for me during a time when I wasn't going to be able to get to a computer in time to make a job submission deadline. And you can't beat the complimentary skills training programs they offer you to help you become more competitive in your industry. They really go above and beyond by doing their best to find the best match for you, their clients, and themselves. read more

I had a great experience working with Core Staffing. I was laid off from my previous job, and really needed employment. I'd never worked with a staffing agency, but decided to submit my resume online. I got a call the next day to set up an interview and I met with Debra, who was extremely helpful and friendly. She sent me on several interviews for permanent positions that didn't pan out so I started calling every morning to see if they had any temp assignments available. It took a while to get my first temp assignment, but once I did the jobs started rolling in. Usually they were for one or two days, maybe a week or so but eventually I got a long term (month long) assignment with a company that led to more long term assignments, and I now have an offer for a permanent position! While I can't speak to other people's experiences, I can say the amount of assignments/interviews you get with Core largely depends on your skills and attitude. I think the reason I got so many assignments is because I was always willing to work. If you're a hard worker with a good attitude, the companies you work with will remember you and will ask you to come back. They don't accept walk ins, so be sure to submit an application on line. And if you really need work, call every morning between 7 and 8 to let them know you're available. It may take a while but if you have the requisite skills you will get work from them. Debra, Karen, Cindy, and everyone I worked with at Core were very professional and helpful. Debra always prepped me for interviews and gave me background on the companies and people I'd be meeting with. I sent applications to a couple of other staffing agencies but they weren't nearly as good as Core. I recommend them to anyone I know who's looking for work. They're not miracle workers, and they can't guarantee employment but if you're willing and able to work, they will work with you to find the best fit for your needs. read more

Terrible services. At first, I thought this would be a promising service especially since Core Staffing Agency was the first to contact me and not the other way around. The representative that I was paired with was seemingly helpful during our initial meeting, but I soon realized that they are of no help. Also, when I contacted my rep, they hardly ever reply. The last time I checked-in with them, I got an automatic reply saying the person is out of the office. Today, when I called to ask about my representative and report how unhelpful they have been, the front desk assistant was totally dismissive would not allow me to file a report with the rep's supervisor. Totally unprofessional and the receptionist was trying to save the rep's ass (from my standpoint). Just do your jobs people and that's helping other's find jobs. If I am not a good candidate for clients who look at my resume, then maybe we (as a team) should work closely together in order for me to obtain a temp/full time position. Maybe re-working my resume or ways in which to sell and brand myself. This service has not helped me at all and although other people might have had a terrific experience, you have to decide for yourself. Maybe I'm in the wrong industry or went to school for the wrong thing. But they won't tell you that. They'll lead you on. read more

I moved to New York at the beginning of summer and came to Core because it was rated as one of NYC's top staffing firms. I have over 10 years experience doing office work, including administrative and exec assistant and office management. I submitted my resume to Core and was contacted immediately. I set up an interview with Allison for Friday of that same week. She was very friendly and didn't keep me waiting long Once she reviewed my resume, she said would have no problem placing me as I seemed to have a lot of experience. She told me she had a couple things in mind for me and after I completed my testing, we could work on getting me placed somewhere ASAP. I completed my ProveIt!! testing the same night of the interview and scored above 90% on the Power Point, Word, Excel and Outlook tests provided. The following Monday, I wrote a quick thank you email and told Alison I hoped to hear from her soon regarding short term or longer term work assignments. Nothing - Not even an indication that she had received my messages. I sent four or five emails over the next few weeks and again, NOTHING in return. At the beginning of August I set up an appointment with another staffing service who also used the ProveIt! testing systems. I asked Allison if she could please forward my scores. Again, NOTHING. I sent 3 emails and received no response. I called the front desk because I was certain Allison must have left the firm, but alas, she still worked there and was simply ignoring me. The receptionist sent over the scores and about 3 days later, so did Allison, although by this point I had already interviewed with and was working for another firm. I wasn't upset or disappointed that they couldn't find work for me. I know these are tough times. What gets me is that it seems like they didn't even try. I came in, filled out all my tax paperwork and applications. Took hours of on-line testing. And NOTHING. read more

Less than a week after interviewing, they helped me land a temp position that eventually led to my dream job a few months later. Let me tell you a slightly depressing story that begins with me moving to NYC two years ago. Right before I was about to move, I got an interview with a friends temp agency (who shall remain nameless) to find me work. I went in, took hours of testing, and told "we will be able to find you work easily". WRONG. Weeks later still nothing. I, luckily, found another job on my own (whew!). Cut to 9 months later, after returning to NY following a job out of state (I work freelance in case you were wondering why the frequent job changes) I returned to the same temp agency and even added on a new one (who shall also remain nameless). With two degrees and two temp agencies I was sure to find work, right? WRONG again. Damn, that's 0 for 2. Cut to 2 months later. Still unemployed. Still checking in weekly (sometimes daily) with the temp agencies, and still nothing. Until Core comes along. They seemed to be a little bit more strict than the other agencies, but heck, 3rd times a charm right? RIGHT They got me a job within a week in the financial district. It was only going to be for 6 weeks, but hey, my 5lb bag of rice was down to a couple scoops, so anything was worth it. Cut to a year later, I am still at the company. What started as 6 weeks, will hit the year mark next month. This job allowed me to keep my head afloat while still working freelance and adjusting to being in the city. All of the people from Core are great and helpful. They have you check in once a week, so they know that you are still looking for work, and will do their best to get you placed quickly. You also get paid every week from them, which is awesome. I'm not sure why other people have had so many problems with them. I couldn't be more thankful for this place. I worked with both Karen and Doug, who provided me with excellent long-term temporary placements and shared my resume out to companies of interest to me that were hiring for full-time, permanent positions (which I later had successful interviews with). I think one of the best parts about the people who work there is that they are not pushy at all. I have had less-than-stellar situations going through pushy, obnoxious head hunters who think they know what you want better than you do. Well, rest assured: none of the staff at Core are like that. There have been plenty of times I've told Karen I wasn't interested in something, and she completely understood without pushing anything AND took the time to look for opportunities relevant to my interests. Although I've only went through Core once over a six-month period, I would not hesitate to reach out to them again if I ever find myself out of full-time employment. Core Rocks! They are hardcore bunch of recruiters that give you a more personalized touch when helping you find a job. You're not just a number. They actually care and want you to find the best match. But looking for a job, as most of you know, is not easy. You have to work hard and focus in order to find the right fit. Unfortunately in my past I have had some bad luck when it has come to employment. The recession, a merger of two companies, and being put on furlough. But Core recognized my work ethic and dedication to finding the right role. I would love to give the credit to just one person, but honestly, my experience with Core felt more like a team effort. I worked with Robert Russo and Rachel Arkin (I believe Rachel has nothing to do with Core staffing though). They were very helpful and responsive and landed me an interview with a really great firm, which MATCHED my background to the t. The company I interviewed with was also the largest competitor of the firm I worked with before. So that was interesting. Overall, I am satisfied. I have worked with and highly recommend them, as they have satisfied an agency's role: 1.) Match my background with the right position and company 2.) Land me an interview 3.) Be responsive. *** Disclosure- I just joined Yelp, since I have been to so many staffing agencies I feel, I will write about my experience before I start working. I went to Core Staffing in August after being out of work for 4 months. I tried finding a job on my own, but of course everyone and their brother was unemployed, so it was really tough. Everyone I met at Core was professional and friendly, but I need to spotlight Alice. She found me a temp position within days, and anytime I've had a problem or question, she is very understanding and quick to help. I found out today that my assignment is ending next week, and Alice has already found a potential new assignment for me. I've worked with (or attempted to work with) two other staffing agencies in the city and both were atrocious. The counselors were frazzled, didn't have time for me, and never followed up with any jobs. Core Staffing (and Alice in particular) is a breath of fresh air, and I highly recommend them. read more
