Prefacing my review to make clear that while this review is lengthy, it is providing an accurate case study of my experience with a rep (Zelda) over a prolonged period of time. 4 years to be fair. Thankfully I am employed, but I think it's important to post, as I know many are out of work due to this pandemic and may be looking for viable career resources that will help w the job search process. All that to say, I don't think Career Group is the best option. I took some time before deciding to write this review because it was important to me to give this agency and my assigned rep an opportunity to prove themselves as being amongst the best in the staffing agency realm. I am not unrealistic in believing that the percentages of those applying will be staffed in their dream role, but I do hope to have an open, transparent, proactive and responsive advocate on my side during my job search pursuits, especially if I am being solicited. My struggle in most of my interactions w staffing agencies in the past seem to be contending with the old 'bait and switch'. When I initially applied with Career Group in 2016, I was assigned to Zelda and was told that the position for which I was applying/inquiring was unavailable, but that there were other opportunities to be discussed. I was given a small walking tour around the office to meet colleagues. One of which was Jonathan Hova who seemed somewhat genuine, but turned out to not actually be as helpful and seems more of a self important name dropper. My instincts were correct in my assumptions as other reviewers seem to reference similar perceptions. Long story short, once you are recruited by one rep, it's almost impossible to request to work with someone else if you feel as though perhaps your career goals/desires are not quite being understood. I applied for another role more recently (2019) and a 4th Fl rep, (Staci?) reached out asking if I wanted to come by to see the office. I mentioned I would be willing, despite actually not wanting to waste the time/money unless the role I really applied for was available, but when I said I would, I was met w no response. I only assumed it was because she may have seen that I was already in the system and working w a rep, so I was no longer a fresh candidate. Who knows. Either way it was pretty unprofessional. Despite having other sub agencies under the CG umbrella, very little brainstorming seems to be done to help place applicants in roles. If you are sitting in a progressive open concept office, then why not discuss your applicants w / collaborate with your colleagues around you? Perhaps they may have a role that may be a good fit for your candidate. My last correspondence to Zelda was (see attached photo), so no need for CG to "bring it to her attn". Honestly, she was gracious in her reply, but there was nothing really to say on her end, other than an inquiry about whether I had tried other agencies, etc. I didn't bother to reply of course, because obviously I had found work through my own devices...Why would I stay unemployed for years waiting for you to come through w viable options!? I would wish others a better experience than I had, but would recommend trying someplace a bit more dedicated. read more

Be VERY suspicious of the 4 and 5-star reviews for Career Group. I don't believe they are from real applicants for a second. This place is one of the worst in the city. The office is full of young women on their computers, tapping away, trying to find "talent" like a dog finding a bone. It's bizarre and weird when you see it. The heads of departments are egocentric and on power trips. I met with Jonathan about a month ago. He's Director of Private Services. He only spent 10 minutes with me (he wasn't even the one who set up our interview--that's weird in itself), bragging about how he was part of the Harvard Club. Um, ok? Pretty sure the aim of the game here is to get as many young hopefuls in as possible to meet a weekly quota. And if you think you're one of the lucky ones, think again. They'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy with their "we love your resume" and "your background is fantastic" and then drop you like a hot potato. Lucky I dropped this agency myself. I found my perfect position without the help of any recruiter. PS: Be aware of the ads they post online. They'll advertise for positions paying $100k+ but when you meet with the recruiter, they'll say that position was filled or you don't meet the criteria for it. If I could give no stars I would! After reading the reviews for Career Group, I was excited to be working with one of the recruiters there. I met with Molly Belcher and Matthew Olsen and was told I would receive an email with 2 roles that I was a perfect fit for. I never received that email. I never heard from them again. It's been close to 2 months later and still haven't heard from them. They ghosted me like I was a bad date. If they didn't have any roles for me or didn't think I'd be a good candidate for anything, they should have let me know. Do not go to Career Group for help with your job search. Without a doubt, I had THE BEST experience with a recruiter in my entire 30+ year career. Amanda Dorado was extremely professional throughout the entire process and I highly recommend her and the Career Group staff for the best recruiting experience. I was looking for a full time position as an executive assistant. Her initial interview with me gave me the confidence that I was in the right place as compared to all the other recruiting firms I had visited in the past month. She explained the entire process as to manage my expectations and I really appreciated it because it made the entire process run very smoothly. Amanda asked just the right questions and was a great listener. I could tell she was such a gifted listener because when she took me around to introduce me to the other recruiters in her office, she had my story down to a perfect elevator pitch sound byte and the other recruiters immediately responded with roles that would be a potential good fit for me. At the end of my visit, I left her office feeling great about our connection and about the other recruiters. She emailed me later that day with NINE excellent options from which to choose. THE SAME DAY. I responded to her with my selections and she had interviews set up that week. The amount of communication throughout the process was something I was unaccustomed to experiencing anywhere else. All the other firms tried to offer me roles in industries that I clearly stated I was not interested in, but they kept pushing their inventory. They also tried pushing contract work which I also clearly stated I was not interested in pursuing. That was not the case with Career Group. The list of opportunities I was given was exactly in alignment with what I had requested. Long story short, I was able to get exactly the position I envisioned, working for a great company that offered a competitive salary and full benefits. The entire process only took a few weeks and Amanda was there every step of the way. If she was out for part of the day, she made sure another one of her team members picked up where she left off. I was supported throughout. During this time, I heard next to nothing from all the other recruiting firms I visited - and I interviewed with over a dozen of them. 'Ode' to Job Agencies - The Aftermath Are they a typical employment agency? Yes. Are you one amongst lord knows how many candidates? Yes. Will you deal with more than just one recruiter? Yes. They're about their commission, BUT also about maintaining a good relationship with their company contact. What does that mean for you? They will not bullsh*t place you just anywhere to get their commission. They will do a thorough background check on you, so you better be ready to prove what you have on your resume. I kid you not- in the span of about 2 weeks I was easily sent out to a good 10, different company, interviews all within the job characteristics I was looking for. By the end of the 2 weeks, I had 2 job offers on the table. I'm past the one year mark with one of the places I chose. Be ready to deal with no frills, but the beauty about that is that there's no BS either. read more

I really really am so disgusted with this agency. If it was possible to give them 0 stars I would. They are not helpful and definitely NEVER return calls. I read many reviews from 2013 and thought, "hey maybe this won't happen to me. Let me give it a try". In May 2013, I went in for my interview with a Jill C.-Senior Account Manager at Career Group. She seemed so pleasant and the interview seemed promising because she stated that they received office/admin jobs often and would contact me in a week. She even introduced me to 2 young ladies that were a part of her team, in case she was not available. Lies Lies Lies because a week later I received no call. So i waited 1 more week and then decided I would call. I ended up calling 3 different days, leaving a total of 3 messages with the young lady in the front desk Melissa I think, NEVER did I hear from her nor anyone at all. So at the end of June I decided to email her on a Friday and finally she responded. She was so cut dry and quite coldly, stating that there was nothing available and that she will keep me in mind if anything comes up. I know Jill did remember who I was because of the request to keep me in mind when any Bronx/Yonkers jobs came up to let me know because I had a car and easily would drive in that area. She responded strictly and plainly by saying, "Nothing at moment but we will let you know asap. Thx!." So every Friday I sent her an email and it is now January 2014 and I still have gotten a "we have nothing available and we will keep you in mind" response. Bullshit. You mean to tell me since May 2013 you have not had any temp job even if it is data entry for $12-18 and hour. Really? That is a LIE... I do understand the jobs and economy is pretty bad but damm you cannot even get a 2 day job assignment or a 1 week assignment at all within that 8-9 months I have reached out to you. That is hard to believe and then I can never hear from you at all unless I reach out. Talk about helpful. NOTTTTTTTT... Guys and it is not like I am an uneducated individual because I have 2 degrees (BS, MS) and did Office/Admin work for 5 years and have done Teaching for 3yrs and have 6 months of Case Mgnt work. So lack of experience or education is definitely NOT the reason. They are just not helpful and I would never recommend them to anyone, even though they have a great website which states, "Our Temporary practice maintains a diversified pool of exceptional candidates at every level to call upon 24/7 for short or long term coverage". So not true... So my advice to all... Do not waste your time...with this agency. Clearly they do not want bonuses for placing people in jobs. read more

I wouldn't recommend this agency at all. I was invited in by a young lady named Carrie Van Leeuwen to speak to Molly Belcher. I had the same experience that Sara B. did. After our initial meeting where she told me she had a bunch of jobs in mind for me I never heard from Molly again. I their office in early Feb, 2015, and since then have received less than 5 emails. The jobs they offered to send my resume in for weren't even what I had discussed with Molly. Two of the positions were temp to perm, which I specifically stated I had no interest in since I already had a job and would like to interview for full-time, permanent, positions. Carrie retracted an offer for another interview because the position required the interviewee to speak Mandarin. Quite an oversight, no? Molly must be REALLY important too because I've asked to speak to her numerous times and they refuse to let me speak to her. I even have the emails to prove how they blatantly ignore my requests. I have a B.S. and MBA in business, 5 years marketing experience, Adobe suite skills, and plenty of office experience. I can see how hard it'd be to find an interview for me. This company is a complete joke. I would recommend taking your chances on your own, because you'll just be wasting your time waiting for any help from them. read more

I was told to come down for an interview after I submitted my resume to their website. I remember they were eager for me to complete my application online before I came in. One thing I noticed I had to fill out something called, WOTC (Work Opportunity Tax Credit) form. I researched it, apparently they give these forms to people who belong to certain "target" groups, in other words, people who face significant barriers when it comes to being considered for a position. While I met with the recruiter, she sounded as if she was reading lines from a script. She assured me that they had positions available and that she would be in touch. 6 weeks later, nothing. I contacted her to see if I was being considered, and she told me "We haven't found anything that's a good fit for your background...cast your net and keep your options open." If only she could have said that a little sooner. Now I worry that since I applied for the agency, and filled out the WOTC, myself and others will make it seem as if this company truly hire candidates who face hiring "barriers." I have to disagree with the negative reviews. I've been to several agencies, and none hold a candle to Career Group. Most bait and switch the salaries alone from what I've experienced, and give me the "I can't wait to leave this place" feeling. That has not been the case with CGI. I'm selective and I've worked with for the best through this agency. I think it's all a matter of your skills, experience, and how your present yourself. I've seen "crazy" show up in the agency - sneakers, grunge, you name it - and they were getting checks, which I'm sure was suitable to what they were applying for - whatever that is. I'm quite the opposite, so it's definitely not about what you look like. Sometimes an agency is just not for you. Some prefer you to lie to their face because they know you can do it well enough with a client to get a job. Unfortunately, that doesn't keep you working. What do you want for yourself? What are your standards? And sometimes, unfortunately, some companies are simply not interested in you. It could be based on your resume only; some trash it because of the formatting. It may have nothing to do with the agency or the Account Manager. Funny, the negative review I noticed was about my Account Manager, Jill C. Never had a problem with her. She's honest and extremely helpful. I got work almost immediately AND I got options. And, as noted in the aforementioned, I've worked with the best. If I don't like my assignment, and my standards are pretty high - to some, ridiculous, I'm gone - and she backs me up. I am constantly working, per my request. When I want time off, I take it. I've only been with them a year. I've had several requests for permanence and turned them down. You have to do what works for you - and do it with someone you connect with. To the negative reviewers - it's HARD getting a job in New York. It's frustrating because you never know what they're looking for. You just have to find the agency that is right for you. Do not think this ONE is it. The ONE, is the agency that calls you with something right up your alley. Hang in there. I was out of work for a long time, went to several agencies, interviews, etc. All hope is not lost. But, stay positive and keep it moving if things do not work out. As far as Recruiting agencies go, Career Group is the leader of the pack. They place creative and financial jobs a-like. I was worried to work with any other recruiters because of the bad experience I've had in the past with NYC agencies (Green Key and Glocap). They actually listened to my needs and wants when I said NO FINANCE, which made it an amazing experience. Job searches can be a very stressful ordeal, but this one was actually quite fun! When I said no to a position that I did not feel was the right fit, there were no hard feelings and they kept searching for me!! As of this week they placed me in a new job with a DREAM company. I can honestly say I have never been happier and look forward to what the future holds at my new job and that is all thanks to Career Group. If you are looking for a recruiter to work with, ask for Molly B., she has the utmost professionalism and class of anyone I've worked with in the recruiting world.
