Beacon Hill - seemingly professional firm and a lot of it is all down to recruiter. Beyond disappointing on a few occasions over several years. My experience is with NYC office. Several years ago applied and met with recruiters never to hear back or be proposed any roles despite excellent experience, education, references. Sadly certain demographics - we are far too used to this. This time several years later I gave it ago again and after applying to numerous Beacon Hill postings on Craigs list and never hearing anything I started to presume the roles were fake - just to obtain resumes. I eventually did hear from a recruiter and went to another meeting/interview at Beacon Hill hoping it would not match prior experiences of being ghosted after the initial interview. This recruiter did get in touch with a trickle of tepid roles however I had to send roles that I found online which I never heard about and recruiter said she was sending me/resume over. None of these roles have company names which can become problematic for a few reasons... I was told twice their client would like to interview me however still no company name provided which is unprofessional. One of the clients reached out to me with an interview time and I had no idea where this was coming from which is only partly why not providing a company name is an issue when we are submitted. And yes there are some confidential searches but not all. I was glad for this because they invited me to the meeting/interview and my resume was attached in a format I had never seen with a full page of experience cut off - which once again is an issue because they have chosen a candidate that is far more junior and then I began to understand why senior roles never took the time to select me for an inteview. After that the recruiter said some things which did not sit well as if I had represented the agency poorly when she had cut my resume in half. I had said no such thing merely explained it diplomatically. After this interview and me sending a few more roles which I had found online the recruiter took two weeks to reply to one email saying nothing was a fit however I had sent her roles for which I am super qualified and also ghosted me..... Work is essential for us all and when agencies or recruiters behave in this manner it makes those of us who face extra hurdles in employment worse of over all. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with recruiter Colin McKenna. He reached out to me about Executive Assistant opportunities and scheduled a time to speak, but completely failed to follow through. At our agreed appointment time, he never called--no message, no explanation, nothing. It's frustrating and frankly unprofessional to initiate contact and then not respect someone's time. A simple follow-up or reschedule would have gone a long way, but the lack of communication speaks volumes. Before I accepted an interview with a recruiter, I wanted confirmation that there was a job description she had in mind for me. She told me she could only match me with jobs AFTER I give her my job-searching time. Of course, I had to give her my references and a list of all the places I applied to. Not like they will use any of that info as a lead to try to make a sale.... I respectfully declined the interview, and the recruiter claimed we could have the interview if she found anything matching my resume. Which means I was expected to sacrifice my time for a very slim chance of a "maybe". Other agencies do not find it necessary to waste random people's time as part of the process. Beacon Hill has been known to conduct time-consuming interviews, only to never contact those candidates again. This does not reflect the candidate's qualifications at all. Beacon Hills needs to stop being stupid and focus their time on activities that actually earn money. Beacon Hills already knows what they need to do better. They're just wasting time because they are dysfunctional and inconsiderate. read more

I was first contacted by Nellie in August, and we met in person. She was excited about bringing me onboard and scheduled me for a temporary assignment at Blackstone (later canceled) and then connected me with Laura as my new recruiter (Nellie was relocating). While I was prepared to take the role, once I realized that is where the recent mass shooting had occurred, I expressed concern about being placed at Blackstone at all. Beacon Hill was not transparent in informing me when the assignment was first offered or at any point thereafter. Laura asked me to come into the office again, which cost me time and travel expenses, only for the meeting to last about ten minutes. Afterward, I followed up by email since it had been more than a month without any opportunities. I asked if I should check in weekly, as I had with Nellie, but never received a reply. When I reached out via the Contact Us email, I finally got a response from Laura (but no one else). It was simply asking for yet another call, even though I had already spoken and met in person multiple times. I did everything asked of me, remained completely flexible, and have two master's degrees and over a decade of experience. Yet I received no meaningful follow-up or offers. It was a disappointing experience despite being cooperative, fully qualified, and willing to work. If my background was not a fit for their client base, that should have been made clear from the outset. Instead, I was called into the office twice and left waiting for opportunities that were never going to materialize, another example of lack of transparency that only added to the frustration. read more

Not sure who you dealt with but my experience with them has been a nightmare. You apply for a job online. The initial response from th is amazing. They're so excited. Then they schedule multiple meetings with at least 3-4 internal recruiters. Wasting hours of your time. There's always someone else "you should meet from BH. Always. Then another. Not sure I believe they even have jobs they're advertising for. It seems like they are building a database. I have been dealing with them for three years. Not one of the so called jobs they're advertising for leads to an interview with the employer. I feel like they use our resumes to sell they're recruiting services to employers. I had just begun my job search when Beacon Hill reached out to me to come in for an interview. They asked me about my background and my goals. I have about 3-4 years of experience in my field and was looking to work at a small to a mid-level marketing agency. I have had internships, in-house, and freelance experience but was told I would not be qualified for anything but a front desk, or admin assistant. I expressed to them that I knew my worth and that I at the very least would be qualified for a junior associate role. They asked me to be open-minded, so, I told them if they found anything to let me know but I wasn't really interested in moving my career backward. Then they told me to consider temping to gain more experience... They had reached out to me for a few roles I wasn't interested in, and at somepoint, they just ghosted me. I am now Head of Marketing at a start-up and looking back at this experience and realizing that they weren't trying to help their candidate but they were trying to fill their undesirable roles. I could not believe that they tried to belittle my experience and ask me to take a significant pay cut just so they could make some commission. Maybe if you have a lot of corporate experience they might be better to work with, but if you have more small-mid level business experience working with them is probably a waste of your time. read more

Was laid off after 30 years due to my company outsourcing . The agency contacted me found my resume on an employment site. Asked me to come in for an interview. Another review mentioned an interrogation room, perfect description of this room. Don't remember the recruiters name as it was a year and half ago. Asked her about the jobs I saw posted. She said was not sure if they were available. Told me she would be contacting me. Ended up calling her following week about jobs posted. Sorry they are not available. Got the will call you next week. Never did. Ended up getting a job on my own the following month. Thanks for wasting my time having to travel in Boston. If you are over 50 don't bother with this agency.
