Had an absolutely fantastic shoulder surgery rehab working with Ferin Zampese at Core Performance. Ferin knows as much about shoulders and, in fact, most of the human anatomy, as anybody I've dealt with in a lifetime of sports injuries, including many docs. Her attention to all the small details, as she taught me new motions, quickly re-established my range of motion, and guided me through strength training, etc, was very impressive. She pushed me when needed and, perhaps most important, put the brakes on certain activities when I was getting ahead of myself. On top of her fantastic knowledge and technical skills, Ferin is a blue chip person through and through. I miss our lively and fun filled conversations. I've been going to Core Performance on and off for the past several years, and I can honestly say that none of the other physical therapy groups that I've tried have come close to the professionalism, caring, and knowledge of the staff here. Both Fran and Allie at the front desk are enthusiastic, friendly, and helpful. Their organization skills keep things humming, and they do whatever they can to make the schedule work for you. My therapist, Ferin, is absolutely amazing! I am preparing to have knee replacement surgery and not only has she created an exercise regiment that will put me in much better shape to recover after my surgery, but she has also coached me on all the adjustments to make in my home and talked to me about other considerations to ensure I'm supported during my recovery. Because of her knowledge, skill, and understanding, I feel totally prepared and confident about facing the surgery. Great personal service here. The doctors and staff are all really friendly and helpful and take the time to teach me about how to do the exercises correctly for maximum benefit. Core performance is my new PT place. I've been coming here for a few months now for a torn rotator cuff and shoulder pain. They have helped me learn a lot of exercises to strengthen and heal my injuries. Before I came here I was going to another PT place for the same therapy but they were not teaching m the right exercises to help me. Really friendly, caring and accommodating as sometimes, not always, but sometimes I arrive late. John is great and pushes me. All the PTs and staff really care about the patients and know their names and back stories, making me feel comfortable to enjoy my time at PT and focus on recovery. The PTs adapt to the needs of my ailments and always have multiple exercise options on hand, a testament to their studies and dedication to their craft. Christi will keep you on your toes (unless you are there for a toe injury) as she changes up the work outs to keep things fresh and innovative. I was a customer at Core Performance three times in the past three years. I returned last week for an injury due to a fall. After two sessions with the physical therapist, I emailed and called explaining that due to the additional pain and discomfort that the therapist caused me, I would like to switch to a new therapist. I heard nothing from anyone for three days and repeated my contact. I was told that I could set up a new session, but not for three weeks. Very disappointing and not good business practices. No one called or cared about what happened. Therefore, I canceled all my appointments and have contacted another physical therapy office. Very unfortunate and surprising from what I thought was a well run clinic. read more

I broke my elbow 10 months ago and underwent major surgery including a new implant. I thought I'd NEVER get full use of my elbow again. I started working with the Core Team shortly after surgery and I'm ecstatic to say I have 100% FULL mobility and use of my elbow again. Initially, my surgeon thought it would take more than a year to rehab and that I may not ever get back to 100%. He was always floored to see my progress. I told him it was the team at Core Performance. They are amazing! John Kwon is caring, talented and very concerned with getting you to feel healthy and whole again. My lead PT was Matthew - and I couldn't love him more! He was caring, dedicated and creative with ways to get the mobility back in my elbow. ALL of the PT aides were genius! Checking my form, teaching me the exercises and making things easy, fun and down to earth. If you're consistent and focused in terms of your goals - these guys will get you there. 10 months is a long time to go through the pain and effort of healing. Today (my last day) was bittersweet. I have enjoyed their company, their talent and all the care I received in my rehab process. I will miss my PT family! read more

I have been a patient previously a few years ago for whiplash therapy..at that time John Kwon and his team did a great job to get me back in shape. The second time was a completely different experience for my lower back issues. Since the expansion the service has declined. They double book the patients like an assembly line...rush through the exercises...and leave you waiting for a therapist. The most efficient person was Sara who performed the massage therapy prior to my exercise therapy and why I award the 1 star to her! I would go elsewhere.. they have lost their edge and reputation with me..big difference in just a few years. Not customer oriented and you're just a number. The insurance billing is also over the norm... Not worth it! UPDATE:: Response to John Kwon reply.. Not exactly accurate John Kwon...nice try to cover your reputation but the truth is the truth! You did not accommodate me and YES... your service has declined! The overbooking kept occurring, additionally your staff was inexperienced and they didn't know the exercises! It wasn't until the 3rd occurrence that I complained to you and you apologized, didn't deny it, then made excuses and did nothing about it. I asked for an accommodation on the billing for the last 3 appointments since I did not receive services expected...but you chose to ignore my request. Additionally, I early cancelled all my remaining sessions after the 3rd double booking appointment and reported this to my insurance company. So let's take responsibility here, no surprise...you knew I wasn't happy with my services....Unacceptable! Lets set the record straight for the public to understand. I would not be complaining if there wasn't a problem. I give great reviews on YELP for the most part but when it's really bad as in this case I think the public should know., that's what YELP is all about, good and bad reviews.. Now you are threatening me with legal action because of my post and demanding I take it down! I stand by my post because it is honest and the truth. I am well within my rights to express my opinion that relates to MY experience according to the Yelp team. The service is not as I remembered the first time and your service in my opinion has declined. You should take the 1 star review constructively and stop making excuses for the bad service you provided to me. I don't think you would like to be treated this way would you? I wouldn't call that a "family like" environment...That's laughable! AMAZING! Core Performance takes great care of me. Adam, Kurt, and Nicole are the BEST. They listened to my concerns, worked up a plan, encouraged me and my progress has been quick. They are really knowledgeable in treatment and use the latest in equipment and techniques. Adam is very intelligent and extremely professional. Upon seeing my shoulder and reading my report, he knew exactly what was wrong. I especially love his manual skills, which greatly reduced the tightness and relieved the pain. The front desk is very friendly and professional too. I enjoy my time there! The ONLY negative remark I have is that some of the PT aides lack the same understanding or passion and sort of go through the motions with you - don't correct you, hand you equipment and leave. After going to several Physical Therapist I came to see Dr. John. He worked with me exclusively for an hour. Explained my problem, limitation and physical therapy plan. He did this with great care and detail. They also gave an App that you get to use on your own time to do the exercises. The App has a recoding of rack of the exercises with an increased challenge for each of the exercises. I like that I am not given over to an Intern or aide who is not qualified to over see my progress. The aids on other practices would just tell me to do the exercises with out overseeing the form and purpose. This is not the case here. I am so much better now. Understand the form for each exercises and gave taken my HS daughter to see Dr John as she is an Athlete which also has benefitted greatly. Be careful not to go somewhere where you do not have certified professional watch you and correcting your progress. I am back at the gym now and enjoying myself walking and biking. I got in a really bad ski accident this last February and had one of the worst tibial plateau fractures my Sports Medicine Orthopedic has ever seen. I received surgery (8 screws and a plate) and it was by far the most painful experience I've had in my life. After 4 weeks post op I received the okay to start PT and heard great things about Core Performance from my ortho. My first visit was with Ferin who provided me some amazing tips on how to reduce pain and swelling. She also made sure I had the resources needed to work on my injury at home. I have primarily worked with Ferin, but have been seen by Christie, Nicole, and other PTs and they are also incredible! I am still going to PT, but so far my doctors have been very impressed with my progress. Whether it is a minor injury or a traumatic injury this is the place to go! read more

I received treatment at core performance after I broke my ankle. My physical therapist was Ryan who was very professional. However, the place is pretty small and always very busy. The assistants seemed to know nothing about my injury/ treatment as I was working with someone new almost every time, sometimes they're assigned two patients at once so I had to spend a lot of time waiting. The reception is definitely not the best. I dealt with Ally who seemed pretty unprofessional and not that friendly. it was very hard to schedule sessions because they're always busy. I decided to switch to another business to get better treatment after she assigned me a therapy session that I didn't schedule and wanted to charge me for it. read more

I had a complex tear of my knee ligament, which gave me a lot of pain for the past 5 years. When I walked, my knee caved in and caused pain inside my kneecap, neck, and shoulders because I was off balance. I gave Core Performance a specific goal. That is to enable me to dance while wearing high heels for at least 2 hours because it is my social life. I now can dance for many hours wearing my 5" heels, and my knee stopped hurting. I am physically stronger, sexier, and slimmer from all the hard-core exercise that they gave me. They gave me back my life. I look good from head to toes :-) I am so happy and blooming like a beautiful flower in the spring. I was a cynic when it came to physical therapy. I believed it was not much more than an expensive message parlor. Well, I suffered a recurrence of an old torn rotator cuff from many years ago and my orthopedic doctor prescribed physical therapy. Doubtful, I still scheduled an appointment, and did I change my assumptions! Benedict Gandolfi was my lead therapist and he explained clearly how the injury effects my range of motion and pain, and explained the process of making improvements by strengthening the other muscles around the shoulder joint and expanding range of motion by stretching all the relevant muscles. After 8 weeks I have gone from 20% range of motion to over 90% in my right shoulder with almost no pain. I'm now a believer. read more

I found Core Performance through Yelp, so it's only right that I help others find them! Long story short - I used to be a dancer and have had multiple surgeries on my ankle with complications. I now suffer from a lot of compensation and pain throughout the lower right side of my body. I called into Core Performance to book my first appointment and had a lovely conversation with Brie. I told her my history and she immediately said that I'd pair well with Alex who has an extensive dance background. For me, it was vital to see someone who really understands a dancer's body and the pressures they have and will put it through because of their craft. First appointment - Alex really took the time to listen to my long history, development of pain and MRI results. We bonded over our shared love of dance, but above all her professionalism and expertise made me feel comfortable seeking treatment at Core Performance (not always easy when you've gone through a lot of surgeries and have a lot of emotion tied to the injuries and pain). I've only started my long physio therapy regimen, but I'm confident that I'm in the right place to start dancing again. Everyone I've met, both therapists and clients are so lovely. Everyone has such an uplifting and fun spirit, and come to think of it, I don't think there's been a time where I haven't been laughing during a session. So you live your life pain free, no broken bones, no god awful sprains, nothing to prepare you for the pain that greets when you hit 'senior' status and have an accident. Not fun, not even a little bit. That injury tripped off osteoarthritis in my major moveable joints, knees and elbows. When I finally faced my denial and went to the doctor, I had good care though they did not automatically recommend physical therapy. Former RN, MSN that I am, it took awhile for me to suggest this treatment modality to them and they were all for it. Once I got the orders, off I went to Core Performance in Newport Beach. Three months ago, I entered this facility a defeated woman mourning my loses that included the kind of mobility that allowed me to be an active yoga practitioner until the injury changed all that. I could go on singing the praises of this center that offers an open shared space for all to rehabilitate in but a space is nothing without the professionals that help you do the 'heavy lifting' required of rehabbing your body. My physical therapist, Christie Warner, DPT, and her assistant Rylan, can't be thanked enough. Being with them in sessions truly is the highlight of my week. Why? I'm getting better, through my hard work and their consistent direction and guidance, I am improving at every level. It's been tough, for sure, but I know when I'm with them, I'm in the safest hands. As Rylan reminds me often when I'm trying something new and have a bit of fear, "I gotcha." Christie, at the top of her profession, has taught me so much about how to make my body work better. Phenomenal practice! I must admit, I had some apprehension in going to physical therapy for the first time - especially in the context of this global pandemic. Suffice to say, Core Performance greatly exceeded my expectations. While the phrase "patient-centric" has become somewhat of a cliché, Core Performance truly embodies an individualistic approach to patient care. From day one, the entire staff knew my name and backstory, and made me feel completely comfortable. Specifically, Kelly and Amer are outstanding DPTs, and I would recommend them to anyone. I came into Core Performance completely at a loss of what to do anymore. For the past 3 years my mid to upper back was progressively hurting more and more and I didn't know why. I didn't have any specific accident or injury that caused my back pain so I just kept thinking I could fix myself with home remedies. I couldn't have been more wrong! The team at CP has made such a huge impact on my life. Before going here I could hardly sleep longer than 4 hours or even sit in a 50 minute class before needing to get up and stretch out. They work hard to target where the pain is, where it came from, and how to remedy it. Not only do they instruct you on how to do exercises, but they teach you how to change your lifestyle in order to prevent furthering your injuries. (e.g. posture, sleeping positions, work environment, etc.) Besides their skillful work in physical therapy, all the employees are incredibly genuine and provide great customer service. I love getting to talk to everybody here because it makes it a very comfortable and inviting environment. Even with all their patients, they make a real effort to connect with them and listen to what they have to say. A few months ago I suffered a severe case of pinched nerve in my back and leg that happened suddenly and resulted in severely limiting my ability to walk, have any decent range of motion or balance. My doctor suggested physical therapy at Core Performance and my sessions there have made all the difference! I am now back to walking normally even playing tennis. I've been to many physical therapists over the year due to an injury in my neck that causes daily inflammation and pain. The most consistent gripe I've had is paying out of pocket or paying a co-pay for a completely hands-off therapist. Almost every physical therapist I have been to in the past has given me a set of exercises to do in their office that could've very well done at home with the instruction of YouTube or something of that nature. That wasn't the case with Core Performance Physical Therapy and it's owner John Kwon. He is by far the most hands on therapist I have ever dealt with. He spends at least thirty minutes doing manual manipulation and really cares about my issue and truly wants to help. On top of that, I've seen the most improvement after an office visit than any other therapist I've been to. I urge anyone who is having pain to visit John at Core Performance PT. I saw John Kwon and his team at Core Performance just shy of 50 times in 2017 for pre and post ACL and meniscus repair rehab. I wanted to take some time and put together my honest thoughts now that several months have passed. First of all, the people there were fantastic. They were all very friendly and helpful. Secondly, I believe that if there were no complications with my recovery, the care I received there would have been fine. Unfortunately, my condition did not improve according to normal metrics, and I feel like they did not do much to improve the situation. Let me explain. I saw John Kwon and several other PTs at Core 2-3x/week for 5 weeks prior to surgery. I had no prior experience with PT or with ACL/meniscus injuries, so I didn't know what to expect. I believe everything went well though, as we met the goals for range of motion and strength. I travel weekly for work, so it was always tough to schedule with one PT. I was always able to schedule with someone though, and the care seemed to be roughly coordinated. I then had surgery with one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the area and decided to come back to Core for my post ACL/meniscus, as it seemed to go well there before surgery. After surgery, the recovery seemed to progress well even though I was back to traveling and rotating PTs (once I was off crutches ~4 weeks). After about 2-3 months of visits 2-3x/week and doing all the assigned home exercises, my range of motion stopped improving. This is when I started getting concerned and voiced my concerns to several PTs. They advised me to do the same things I had been doing. Each time I came in to see a different PT they would spend half the time asking what is new since last time and brainstorming new things for me to try that day. All the ideas though were new exercises that had nothing to do with increasing range of motion. They were all ideas for building strength. I didn't need that at the time (which I now know after going to a PT who knows what they are doing). No one raised a flag that I might need additional attention. This continued for another 3-4 months until my 6-month post op with my surgeon. I dreaded going to PT, as they never did anything to help me get better during that time. It was more frustrating and demoralizing than anything. At the 6-month post op my surgeon was not pleased with the progress on range of motion, so he suggested I go to a different PT. That PT was able to immediately identify one of the major problems being a stiff knee capsule and give me several degrees of range of motion with a 5-minute massage. The capsule had never been mentioned as a potential cause of limited range of motion by any of the several PTs I saw at Core. I never went back to Core. I ended up having to have another knee scope to clean out all the scar tissue accumulated from the first 6 months of not making much progress, and my new PT group guided me back to full range of motion with a lot of work and coordination between PTs (due to my schedule inflexibility from weekly work travel). It is disappointing to have to look to another PT group to get back to full health after spending so much time, energy, and money with Core, but it is even more disappointing that no one ever reached out to see what happened to me after ~50 visits and then abruptly stopping my treatment. read more

I am a Collegiate student-athlete and suffered two torn ligaments and a chipped bone in my wrist. I had 2 surgeries to repair the damage and began rehab as soon as I could. I started at another Physical Therapy company and it was clear it just wasn't working. I've been going to Core for post-rotator cuff surgery physical therapy. Core has been great. First, the environment is very positive and all the staff are upbeat and encouraging, which, I think, is important. Dr. Kelly Surratt, who has been working with me, is wonderful. She's friendly, supportive and highly skilled. Frankly, I was dreading physical therapy, but I've gotten to the point where I look forward to my twice-weekly appointments.
