Acrofit has an awesome roster of coaches, including international pole and aerial silks/lyra champion, Sylvia Louis! All of the coaches are very welcoming and encouraging to achieve your goals. Classes are on a drop-in basis so you can join anytime regardless of your fitness level. They also offer 8 week semester sessions for most of the aerial and other sports that they teach. They welcome students of all age and very affordable pricing. When you purchase a 20 class pass, it works out to being $16.00 a class. They also have open practice almost everyday, sometimes twice a day for $11.00 a pop. Love it here! First class is always FREE :)

First class is also free, but I bought the classes before being able to redeem it. I started off doing pole and I'm not going to lie, the first class was a little intimidating. I've done pole fitness at one other facility prior to Acrofit, and I can confidently say that the instructors at Acrofit challenge you a lot more. While more challenging, it was very fun. Another thing to note is the pole classes focuses more on skill and form rather than being flirty and sensual. I'm not into that so that's a thumbs up from me. As well, the prices here are way more appealing than most other pole fitness facilities. The drop-in class had other members at a higher skill level than me, but the instructor was able to teach new moves to everyone without giving any other students more attention than the others. Soon after my first class, I registered for a pole semester (level 1) where I knew everyone was going to be as amateur as I was. It was a really welcoming + comfortable environment, and the instructor was able to teach us all the same stuff as we were all learning at the same pace. There are new owners now and the drop-in classes have been tweaked a little to allow students of similar skill level to train with each other, which I prefer. After I finished my first pole semester, I registered for pole level 2, and I also delved into trying out aerial silks. The instructors for the silk classes are just as helpful and encouraging as those I've met in pole. They encourage you to challenge yourself but don't pressure you into accelerating your learning curve. I took a tumbling class and it's the same deal. Great instructors, challenging, yet fun. I bought more class drop ins on top of my semester class and I'm probably gonna be a long-term client now.

The gym is located in a large strip mall that's very new, so there weren't any large signs, which was mildly challenging when it was getting sundown. When you go inside, there's a large concrete area for family and friends to sit and observe from and a small front desk for you to "check in", if you'd call it that. The atmosphere is very relaxed (even the owner Chris' dogs were running about and playing with some kids), so when we first went inside to "check in", Chris called he'd be right with us after the class was finished. Not only does this place do flying trapeze, but they also have lyra hoop, aerial silks, and other non-traditional workouts available. Since there were a few of us who were new, Chris first went over with us on ground what the procedure would be step by step from climbing the ladder to the platform to the finished landing, as well as had us individually practice our move on the bar on the ground with his spotting. It was very obvious he'd explained this 1000 times given the summary he gave us and the assurance that even if we didn't remember anything he'd still repeat everything for us when we were up. Kimmie (his fiancee and fellow instructor) and he were both very kind and supportive during the entire experience, and provided great tips for us to improve on our next round of turns on the trapeze. They made great conversation while we were with them, and genuinely tried to get to know us better. I would definitely love to come back; I wish this place was closer to where I live so I could become a regular!

Every day she rattled off all the things she got to try and how fun it was. With most of these camp type things they fall short of what they advertise. In the case of West Coast Flying Trapeze, they went above and beyond, which is soooo nice and in such contrast with most businesses nowadays. They have arts and crafts for the kids who arrive early and on break, the gave each of the kids a Tee - shirt and they sent a really cute, well edited video of all of our daughter's exploits. So bottom line, our kid had sooo much fun. The safety procedures and technical training of the coaches was obvuously extensive and they were really nice and fun staff, who made our daughter laugh... Fully reccomend these guys!

I didn't really like my experience with Tantra Fitness Mount Pleasant. It wasn't my first time pole…read moredancing but it was my first time at Tantra Fitness and there was a lot of things that could have been better. - The way the classes are organized with the color code doesn't make much sense to me. - When I arrived, the teacher didn't introduce themselves or ask any questions if people were already familiar with some moves or not. Everyone did the same thing and we learned only one simple move in one class which isn't much. - The classes are only 55 minutes which is very short. When you take into consideration the warm up and stretching we only pole for 30 minutes, which isn't enough in my opinion. - I purchased a 6-day pass ($180 before taxes which is an average of $30 per class) but when I went to the website and checked individually, most classes were around $20. Then what is the point of the punch card if you're gonna pay more?? That's upsetting - I injured myself and had to cancel a class I had booked last minute. They did warn me I would have a cancellation fee but didn't say how much. I went through cancellation waiting for them to tell me how much I would have to pay. I ended up receiving an email AFTERWARDS telling me that they wouldn't pay my class back. That's not a fee, that's just stealing money. They need to be better at communicating. I tried calling them to talk about it and wasn't able to reach anybody. So yeah, the class was okay and I like the diversity of classes they offer, but there are too many things wrong going on for me to give more than 2 stars.

It's been many years since I have done a back bend, but when the opportunity came up to join one of the regularly scheduled Intro to Circus classes, I jumped on it. For joy. I might ache a wee bit now, but had a ball. After a good warm-up and stretch, our class included segments on juggling (including the fluid art of contact juggling - not so much from me, but the instructor was amazing - "Lots of lonely Friday nights," he joked), trampoline, and aerial silks. My favourite part was learning how to make a little cocoon out of the silk - a long piece of fabric that hangs from the ceiling - and spin it around. The owner of the school is an acrobatic/artistic coach for Cirque Du Soleil and the instructors are all working coaches and performers themselves. They've created a happy, airy facility in the River Market with lots of natural light and views over the Fraser River. It was bustling on the night I went - everywhere you looked, someone was doing something amazing: tumbling and flipping across the floor, wrapping themselves around a silk and/or a partner up close to the ceiling, elegantly writhing through the hoops. If you're curious or just want to watch, the troupe gives a free 15-minute performance every Saturday afternoon at the school. As for me, I'm definitely going back for more (hello, I have a Circus School in my 'hood!). The circus beats boring old yoga any day.

I texted back, "WTF."After…read morechecking out the actual Groupon description, my WTF moment softened as I was immediately drawn to Aerial Silks. Which girl doesn't dream of doing something so graceful, especially in the air! The school is located in the River Market in New Westminster, a kind of a new concept culinary destination slash community arts gathering place. It's located on the 2nd floor, right on top of Donald's Market. A great grocery store to get your smoothie fix or power bar when you get hungry. Our Groupon included 3 thirty minute sessions. I started off in Acrobalance, which is floor exercises. We were taught somersaults, shoulder roll, and eventually progressed up to headstand. The instructors are great at easing students with little or no experience into having fun with learning these new skills. Next up was Aerial Silk (what I had been looking forward to!) It was actually surprisingly difficult to accomplish a task that looked relatively simple. Glancing over at the more seasoned acrobats, our group definitely felt a new-found respect for circus performers. Last up, we got to try Trampoline. What can I say? We were bouncing up and down - how could that not be fun? Other stations we didn't get to experience were the Trapeze and Aerial Hoop. All in all, Vancouver Circus School is a great place for everyone. It's an environment that fosters kids to gain confidence and learn new skills. At the same time it's for experience junkies who like to try everything once. And it's great for those who are looking for a fun, recreational way to keep fit. Because really now... would you rather do reps at the gym or bounce on a trampoline?!
