Yoga by the Sea has several classes conducted by different instructors and my review is only for…read morethe Therapeutic Yoga/Tensegrity class by Lyne. I emailed Lyne about joining the class as it was a pre-registered session. I was given the green light on the day itself. I didn't bring my yoga mat on this trip and told Lyne and she very kindly brought an extra mat for me. The studio also stocked other items for students to use - yoga blocks, blankets, pillows etc. The studio space was pretty cozy and warm. When Lyne led the chants, the sound reverberated and was quite soothing to the ears and body. The class was wonderful and Lyne was a star! She really checked on the students, ensuring we were doing the postures correctly and if we were ok. The session helped so much in releasing the tightness in the body. I really liked this type of restorative yoga which was gentle on the body. I had also attended a 3-hour yoga workshop conducted by Lyne at the Sechelt Aquatic Centre and it was equally great! Lyne was very knowledgeable and passionate about the body anatomy and passed on the information to the students so that we could better understand and visualize how each part of the body and muscles are connected. I highly recommend any class by Lyne at this studio. Parking is available in the small lot or by the street.

The owner of YBTS, Marney, teaches several classes during the week and on the weekend. She is…read moreusually late for every class she teaches by about 5-10 mins - rarely is she on time for a class. And the class always runs long so it's hard to schedule anything in when going to one of her classes. She's late so often that she's given some of her students keys to the studio so that they can open up, make tea, light candles, get music playing and welcome students - they're also expected to lay out her mat for her so she can just walk in when she finally gets there and sit down and start class. She has told the classes on many occassions that she "doesn't care" about being late and that she accepts that about herself - but what about those of us who work and have appointments? Marney has told us students many times, that the class she's teaching that day is what SHE needs to do, not what we might need, though she sometimes does take requests. The classes are often very slow and boring. She talks alot about herself and shares way too many personal things about her life, her ex-husband, her son - she doesn't seem to understand or respect personal boundaries of participants. She's offering Yoga Teacher Training for the first time. I heard that the 3rd weekend of training, she left her students to go work as a Doula for 2 days - she told her students to teach themselves different yoga postures and then teach each other a class one morning without any guidance from her. Other teachers at YBTS are wonderful - Jools leads a very active class and is wonderful, Lyne has a beautiful class, Edie is radient and lovely, Nicola is fantastic. The workshops used to be much better - now they're repetitive and boring. She's not getting good, vibrant people into the studio for interesting workshops. I'm voting with my feet and won't be back.

UPDATE: Everything I listed in my review below was the truth…read morefrom my interaction & experience with The Hot Box Yoga. I have all emails & social media screenshots to back me up in case of any legal dispute. I will not be updating or responding to any further attempts by said biz owner to bicker publicly. After I had posted the original review below, biz owner Chris left a public response, in which he made up lies about our interactions, and posted up my private personal info (full name & Instagram handle). In his response, he was deflecting from the real issue (that they made a mistake with the pass expiry date, said they fixed it, but never did). He did NOT address or mention this mistake in his response at all, instead choosing to focus on an earlier denied pass extension request that I had already accepted was denied. He also stated (for all you future customers) that The Hot Box Yoga Sale passes are for people who "cannot afford" to use their studio at regular prices. His abusive & customer privacy-violating response was flagged & has since been removed by Yelp HQ. In all my very little (3 short emails & 2 Instagram comments in total) communication with The Hot Box Yoga, I have only been polite & stated facts, hoping they would fix the pass expiry mistake they had made. I have never requested for any compensation, nor have I ever expected any from them. When the mistake was never fixed despite my attempts to reach them, I left the review simply to let others know about my personal experience dealing with this studio. I'm sure anyone who sees this will have a better idea of their operations & customer service standards after reading this. - Original review below: Used to be a fan of The Hot Box Yoga for a few years now, but this recent incident has showed me how their operations are and how they treat customers. They made a mistake on a Black Friday sale pass, which wound up expiring two days before the advertised date. Both my friend & I had bought this pass. When I reached out to them via email, the owner Sarah claimed to have fixed the issue, but did not actually do so. As a result, we were unable to book classes on the last 2 days. Upon trying to reach them politely again on social media to get the issue fixed for good, they blocked me. (Funny thing was, they were even following & interacting with me before, because I was always posting positive pics & tweets about their classes & events. My social media followers will know this for a fact.) Issue was never resolved, emails sent were ignored. We were unable to use the remaining classes on our class passes. It is obvious that they did not want to fix the mistake, nor did they want this legit customer issue to be known anywhere public. Terribly disappointed and never returning back here again. Fellow yogis, always be sure to check your pass expiry dates - even if they made a mistake with the dates, they will not fix it!

So great! We're visiting Vancouver for Christmas and I thought it would be fun to surprise my…read morepartner with her first yoga experience. Their online site is easy to use and at the checkout there was an option for first timers. I chose a 4 pm class but plans changed and we needed the 10am class. Unfortunately I couldn't get ahold of anyone on the phone but read walk ins were welcomed so I figured we'd give it a shot. I was right! We were greeted by Sarah and she kindly welcomed us into the 10am class (which we got there with minutes to spare). She assisted us with mat rentals, water, and reassured my partner that though this was her first time, she'll be fine. Sarah is a great instructor, even helping my partner with some poses. We would absolutely get a membership if we lived here or were even staying longer! Very clean and pleasant. She also suggested taking the scenic route back downtown--which we did. Great experience! Thank you
