***UPDATE*** Last…read moreweek I was able to talk with a rep from Help Center Support/Customer Relations. She was very professional in allowing me to fully vent my complaints and frustration about their outsourced, offshore customer service department, and about their billing system. She was also very friendly, so much so that I apologized for the anger and frustration I showed in dealing with customer service. I think she was genuine in stating she didn't blame me. that it was understandable why I got to that point (yes, I'm paraphrasing here). I don't think anything was really resolved regarding corporate practices moving forward, except that she removed the $1 late fee. But the positive result is that I now have an actual corporate customer service person I can contact if any similar issues arise in the future. This is comforting because as I've said about a company outsourcing customer service functions, it both isolates and insulates them from customer complaints. So, this issue's been settled, at least, and we're staying with ADT.

We had ADT for 12 months, then relocated to a different house. The equipment we have needed to be…read moreuninstalled by an ADT tech and it still needs to be reinstalled by an ADT tech - equipment includes a home base, touch screen base, almost 30 window sensors and glass break sensors, as well as a Nest Doorbell (all in pristine condition - batteries all charged). We cannot install this on our own. We were not told about any relocation fees (which we would later find out included a new home base $400, new lithium batteries for every single sensor $300, an installation fee $250, on top of a "work fee" which we were told was $100 extra for the tech coming out to us to reinstall everything). We specifically asked about any fees to the rep before relocating and they said it was only an installation fee of $250. So that was a lie. All of these fees we were not told about added up to over $1000. We have spent hours on the phone trying to sort out this problem. When we do get through to someone and they say they will contact us to schedule a tech to come out to reinstall the equipment, they call me in the middle of my school day when I am teaching. I ask them to please call my husband and give them his number. They always respond "no problem, will do". Multiple times I had them verbally confirm they updated the phone number in their system to my husbands number, but my husband does not get a call from them. When they call me back three days later to again schedule a reinstallation date, I tell them to please call my husband and confirm what number they have on file for him.... They apologize and say they wrote the number down incorrectly. This has happened multiple times. ADT has been failing to resolve our issues for about 6 weeks. They are unreliable, unreachable, and completely unprofessional. We have been calling ADT numerous times (more than a dozen times) and have spoken to, and been transferred to, probably over 30 different representatives to help solve our one problem over the course of weeks - but no one can help, or they make a promise and do not keep it because there is no system in place to connect all the representatives and techs by showing them notes on what we were told or promised. Another frustrating point is when we are transferred to other reps once we do get through, they make us re-verify our account every single time. So being transferred 10 times per phone call to multiple reps means we have to verify our account 10 times, every single time. It's draining. Now we are stuck paying for services that should be easing our mind regarding our home security, but instead we are stressed about paying for services we are not receiving, or stressed about calling ADT to be put on hold for hours and getting transferred to dozens upon dozens of reps, or stressed about when they will actually call us back as they promised. What they are doing is immoral and we need help to cancel our ADT contract without paying thousands of dollars. We were even called by someone named Destiny who tried waiving these extra fees for us because we want to cancel our contract. She assured us these fees were waived for us. Then she gave us her direct phone number and told us to call her if we encountered anymore problems. We asked her again if she had an extension but she said this was her direct line of contact, she is reachable. When the tech came out this last time to reinstall the equipment and said we still had to pay the fees, we called Destiny's line to clear up the issue with the tech in our home. Well this line was not her direct line because it stated all ADT agents were busy and it went to the general relocation department voicemail. So what Destiny told us was untrue. She was not the first rep to say our fees were waived but that ended up not being true. We do not know how to resolve our issue. When you call ADT's number for assistance, their keypad menu does not even work - meaning you can not get in contact with the correct department because the general welcome menu message just repeats itself over and over again (it can go on forever). When you can actually get through to a rep, 100% of the time they cannot help with an issue and then starts the transferring and re-verification process. It's frustrating. The only thing ADT is good at is writing a contract that cons innocent consumers out of their hard earned salaries for sub-par AI run services, and in our case no services at all. Please help us solve our issue to cancel our contract without having to pay thousands of dollars in cancelation fees.

I put it off for months, but when I finally started researching replacement options, Alarm Grid's videos and information were everywhere--YouTube, forums, and Google searches. After learning that my old panel was discontinued, Alarm Grid's resources clearly explained how to upgrade to the Honeywell/Resideo PROA7PLUS ProSeries 7-inch touchscreen panel, along with adding the PROTAKEOVER module to maintain compatibility with my existing Honeywell 5800 Series wireless sensors. I ordered both the panel and module and received them in just five days with free shipping. Installation was straightforward thanks to Alarm Grid's step-by-step YouTube videos. I did initially have trouble configuring my window and door sensors, but after realizing they needed to be set to "Service 2" in the programming, all my 5816 sensors worked perfectly. I also decided to add monitoring with app-based arm/disarm for just $10 per month. Nicholas Fuller activated my system remotely and made the entire process seamless. Huge thanks to Alarm Grid and the entire team for their expertise, professionalism, and top-notch customer service. I couldn't be more satisfied with the experience!

You order the system pre-programmed, and it's pretty simple to install. The sensors are battery operated, so you just screw them to the walls, or use double-stick tape. The main panel does need wall power. The connection to the monitoring site is via cell phone, so no wire required. I've had three alarms in the past year. The first was triggered from my father, who forgot I had an alarm. That revealed that the company had written my street address down wrong, so the police refused to send a unit. Luckily that ended well, but it shows that you must double check such things after installation. The other two were actual break-ins. In each case, the alarm activated, and the burglars left without taking anything, and I only had to pay to replace some glass. I will say that the police response was too slow to catch anybody. All in all, the system works, and at the price is a bargain. I used ADT for my business, and now I regret it. Their system is no better, more than twice the cost per month, and cost $1000 to install. When the contract expires, I will switch to this service. I am also planning to install this system in another house.

Installation was a mess. They have a one star rating on BBB with 17 complaints closed in last 3 years - 11 complaints closed in last 12 months (as of 5/17/19), which tells you something. Tyco was sold to Johnson Controls last year and things are worse. Their billing systems are terrible - never receive an invoice then receive emails saying I'm overdue - with no way to pay or link in the email. One of their sensors has been faulty for 6 months. They sent someone out and it was never fixed. So I decided to cancel the service -though my contract is with Tyco- and they are saying I owe for the full contract. Just a terrible experience from beginning to end.
