New - revamped menu with pizzas, expanded teen menu and lunch items. Some of the classics are still there but it took a long time to review the new dishes. Food is still good, but it seems like there is less fruit in their dishes. Also - peameal bacon is very thin, so shrinkflation has hit Cora's. When we agreed to meet a cousin for lunch I looked at the so so reviews of this restaurant and became cautiously optimistic. However the wait staff were very pleasant and helpful moving us to a more comfortable table and tending to our needs with care upon our request. They waited on us patiently while we visited and did a great job making us feel welcome. I had the club sandwich and was very pleased with the size and quality of the sandwich and fries. It was delicious and an excellent value for the price. My wife had the egg salad sandwich and found it flavorful and fresh. My honest opinion is that this restaurant has good value for the money and well worth your visit. read more

Whitby location. Super busy on the weekends, expect to wait a while. Our son tried the Elise Brioche, my husband tried the Jessica 89 both of them enjoyed their meals. I went for the all you can eat crepes and found them thicker, heavier and very filling. The down side is they come without anything on them. I asked for a bunch of lemon slices and was told they were out of them but someone had gone to get more. I got a few thin quarter slices...meager. Try them with lemon & white sugar, great combo. Our poor server Karen was lovely but rushed off her feet. The tables weren't being cleared very fast once the customers had left, hence the long wait, 30 minutes. read more

If you love fruit, Cora's is the place to be. Servers are quick and efficient and so are the cooks. This place gets PACKED on the weekends, so either go early or just before noon. I've tried lots of breakfasts here and they're always good. The menu changes every once in awhile to keep things interesting. Last time I was there I tried a Crepeomelette. It had a western omelette rolled into a tortilla and smothered in bernaise sauce. Mmmmm. The sauce wasn't overly salty either. They have a gluten free menu too! My mom tried the Gigi Omelette; it's got egg whites, mushrooms, spinach and caramelized onions with gluten-free toast. She loved it! Perhaps one day, I'll actually try lunch! read more

Amazing!! Now this is how you do breakfast. Great, friendly service. Fantastic choice of dishes. Clean environment, open kitchen so you can see what's going on. Prices are a little higher than similar local places, but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. I went with the "Peggy's Poached", essentially a low fat option with poached egg on wheat toast (unbuttered) and a selection of fresh fruit, with side of cottage cheese. It also comes with two additional slices of buttered toast, should you need them. Food was served in under 10 minutes and was absolutely delicious. Eggs hot with runny yolks, fruit chilled, ripe, sweet and delicious, but not too cold. The meal was around $11.95 CAD, a bit expensive for what it is, but the quality was outstanding. Really great job Cora, I look forward to coming back some time! read more

After being open for about a week I decided to check out the new breakfast spot in north Whitby... Cora's. Cora is quite a pretty and comfy spot, with a mix of booths and tables and a nice decor which was spotlessly clean. The menu is quite varied with a wide variety of omelets, pancakes, waffles and traditional egg and bacon breakfast, however my initial impression was ohh, this looks interesting and tasty, then directly to Wow... Expensive... Food cost, rent, labour etc are up for all restaurants and I respect the challenges they face, however $10.15 for 3 blueberry waffles (+ beverage) seems high too me and most every breakfast entree was over $10 with coffee extra. Not a good first impression and while it maybe the reality of food costs today, I question the logic of crossing the $10 barrier to greet new customers and a town. (but I also found out this is not up to the franchise owners and comes from head office) My order was sausage and eggs over easy which arrived with two eggs, two sausages, rye toast and real home fries. Impressions: coffee took 2 creams to reach a drinkable level and I saw it was Mother Parkers which some like, but not me. The plate looked good at first glance however Sausage was not browned /cooked and I chose not to eat it, which was in contrast to the homefries which were burnt and black in spots and had no seasoning (I left these too) . Eggs were cooked perfectly and toast a very nice rye with a nice selection of jams. While I was looking/picking suspiciously at my 2 sausages and the home fries, the server immediately asked if there was an issue and I said they did not seem cooked properly to me and she immediately offered to get new ones, however I said it was ok and that I would prefer not to. Summary: Atmosphere: 9/10 Food: 7/10 (my problems were hiccups as other people seemed happy) Value: 5/10 (sorry...there are much better deals in town) Service: 10/10 - Especially as the owner made a point of coming over to check on my meal and didnt charge me for it which was fair as I could only eat half of it (FYI I did not ask for this, she offered to do it and I thanked her and shared this review and wished them well) Overall I would go back and give it another chance due to the excellent service I received and I will try to be more forgiving on the prices. Honestly not my best experience. I was with a party of 7 (including myself) and we were not allowed to make a reservation. When we arrived the hostess informed us it would be about a 20 minute wait. It was closer to 35 minutes (not the end of the world). We then ordered coffee and our meals. The wait for our meals was approximately 25 minutes. When the meal arrived we asked for more coffee so we could have it with our meals. The girl whom we asked for coffee forgot about us and we had to ask again when we had already finished. The service was very horrific in my personal opinion. Though, the food was the restaurants saving grace. For parties of 5 or more they should take reservations, so that families like mine would not have to wait an unreasonable amount of time for a table or server. read more

Hmmm where do I start . Me my fiancé my kids and his parents decided on this place for breakfast . It was very busy which why I figured that it true to it's reviews .. service was not a complaint at all . But the food was I didn't even get what the full breakfast offered neither did my fiancé .. but I didn't want to act a damn fool so I figured maybe they were running out of supplies .. got my breakfast which was cold .. tried to stomach it . Next day I was sick with shivers and stomach cramps as well as my fiancé we got food poisoning.. isn't that great with two young kids ! I had loads of fun. read more

I love the atmosphere of Cora's and their emphasis on a balanced, healthy start to the day! However, the quality of their food has gone downhill from when they initially opened. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with sauteed onions. The fruits aren't fresh, the apples were old, the pineapple was dry with no taste and the orange was also dry. I asked for medium poached and I got runny and the sauteed onions were sadly burnt. Also the portion sizes are much smaller than they use to be. Not sure if I will come back :( read more

Large menu and options with gigantic portion sizes with an accompanying hefty price. Not the best service even though they weren't busy but clean restaurant and pleasant staff. For the price you pay however it seems a bit too much and wasteful. They don't have much flexibility to minimize options. read more

The first time I visited Chez Cora was probably about five years ago at a downtown Montreal location. I was introduced to it by a couple of mates who live in town. I am convinced Cora's approach to breakfast is not only unique, but special in a good way. The fresh fruit and high quality of produce in the menu has never disappointed. As an eastern suburban GTA resident, I have also frequented the locations in downtown Toronto at Wellington and in Pickering at Brock/401, not once being disappointed by food or service. As soon as I was made aware of the new Whibty location, I found a reason to visit, my Birthday Breakfast. Chez Cora at Taunton/Brock. Just like every other location, it was bright, clean and busy. One thing I noticed right away was the average age of staff was likely the lowest I had seen at any location. We were seated right away after walking in at 10:15 am, which I was impressed with because by the time we left there were 10 or so people waiting to be seated. The hostess introduced out waitress, gave us our menus with a warm smile. Our young waitress came over in no time and offered drinks right away. The whole time thinking this location is being run very efficiently and to the high standard I have become accustomed to, I was hoping it would last. Unfortunately I was wrong. I ordered the ham and egg crepe, with half the plate coming with fresh fruit. My crepe looked especially greasy, more so than i expected. Not only that, it looked as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp for some time because the shell was thin and hard. My better half ordered a fruit filled crepe, strawberry I believe, was quite pleased as the portion was very generous and presentation impeccable. We sat eating and chatting for about 30 minutes after introducing our visit to the waitress as being a Birthday Breakfast. Not once was I offered a top up of coffee, my other enjoyed her fruit smoothie. On the way way out, a disoriented lady in a black shirt, perhaps the franchisee, collected our bill. After repeatedly turning down the "birthday bird", i felt awkward as she insisted I take it in front of the other patrons waiting to cash out. In the interest of moving things along, I reluctantly accepted. Our change for the bill was not offered up to us as we only had large bills. I stood there for a moment and the lady just looked at me, awkward again. It was as if there was an auto gratuity being rounded to the nearest large bill denomination. Do I really have to ask for my change when I eat out? I have become accustomed to calculating gratuity on my own according to level of service, not by the service staff. Left the Whitby location with a sour taste in my mouth on my birthday, not impressed. Not likely to return to this one, will take my business to the Pickering location, if anything. Thinking this location may see the lineups die down quickly if they keep this poor service attitude. read more

Not a fan. The decor is the same at every Cora's - creepy barnyard motifs. The waitresses were nice but why so many of them. Four kids in uniform standing around giggling while everyone else worked. I had the brioche with eggs and fruit. The brioche was huge and there is an abundance of fruit. If you want decent eggs and more than just one tired over cooked egg, and decent thick bacon, go elsewhere - frankly go to Sunset. read more

Food was mediocre. I was impressed with the amount of fresh fruit and the freshness of the fruit but other than that the food was very plain. They had a gluten free menu and gluten free toast which is a bonus. It was very expensive (probably to cover the cost of having fresh fruit) and it was not especially tasty. The bacon was thin and tasteless. Potatoes are good (grilled, not deep fried) and nothing is extremely greasy which is a bonus. The plate looks impressive as they cut and place the fruit in nice looking arrangements however they should focus more on the quality of the food instead of the presentation. Was at this location last weekend, my wife wanted some fresh fruit. Service just plain sucked! Slow, non attentive, non caring... Food was not prepared to our liking, eggs too runny, bacon too crisp, fruit left out too long and hard on outside. Wanted to complain, but no waiter ever came back! Only one coffee refill, and only because I spotted a waitress carrying a pot and called her over! I registered a complaint on the Cora's website, no acknowledgment or apology, nothing! We noticed people who came after us getting their food. We asked the waitress where our order was. She looked on the computer screen and said she forgot to put our order in. WHAT! My wife and I were at the Cora's in Whitby this past weekend for our first time and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. As I approached this location all I noticed was there was a line up out the door and I though I didn't want to wait that long, the lady in front of me told me that the line was moving fast. At that time I was greeted by a gentleman I think his name was Derek and he had a clip board and promptly took our names. I was impressed at how fast the line moved. We were seated promptly by another pleasant lady. While this location was very busy it didn't take long for our waitress to take our order. She was very pleasant and in a cheerful mood. As my wife and I waited for our order I watched the staff move about the restaurant and one thing that stood out to me was everyone working there was working very hard and was all in a great mood. It made us feel like we were at a family reunion or a wedding. As the staff would come by and fill up the coffees they would spend a couple of minutes just chit chatting with everyone there. It was as if they were all great friends. My meal was fantastic, lots of fresh fruit and the presentation was great. As we've never eaten at a Cora's before we didn't know what to expect. Happy New Years! Well not really for us. We couldn't think of another better place for a family breakfast than our neighbourhood Coras. We've been to several Coras locations including the north Whitby one that I am reviewing today. The experiences were mediocre at best, mostly because of slow service. The reason for our return is because it's the only non greasy spoon breakfast spot in the area. Today we showed up to north Whitby Coras only to be hit by the same long line up. Always expected, not a big deal. They were not at capacity at all. 15 minutes go by in the line up, not a big deal. Standing by the fudge dispensing hostess desk for an extended period with a family of four is never unusual. However, today we noticed quite a few tables (of 4) were open. We finally made our way to the front. That sense of anticipation and excitement you get when you're next quickly turned sour. Cora's hostess decides to pick out groups from the center of the line to sit instead, at a four person table. A little weird, but when asked "why can't we sit at the front table over there that's been open this whole time?". The answer was "because that section is being closed off for closing time". We thought ok, it is 2pm. Finally! We are seated. As we are unpacking our kids and skimming over the menu. We glance over to see other people of four being sat at that very table we had asked about. Yikes, we casually mention it to the manager that the seating system was flawed. We were assured that it was a miscommunication and that we would be "looked after". As our kids meals came perfectly on time and were quite yummy (Oreo pancakes). The kids had finished eating, their coloring books filled in and half an episode of Monster high on iPad before we finally had enough. We were assured "it's next to come out". Meal after meal promptly flowed out of the kitchen. We called over the waitress to cancel out meals which we had ordered well over a half an hour previously (complicated oatmeal by the way). The waitress was a phantom, not even a refill on coffee. Upon leaving, the manager shrugs his shoulders and says "it's on us guys". Our two kids ate, and we were left being well "looked after" by not having a breakfast or an explanation. New Years resolution for our family is to find a new breakfast joint in north Whitby.
