I really was disappointed with my experience at Sunnyside Grill. I wanted it to be good because I haven't eaten at a great diner for a while. I don't have a lot of needs when it comes to a diner, but would at least expect that the food the comes out to be hot. It left a lot to be desired and I wished that those expectations could have been met. Passed through here on a Saturday during prime brunch hours. They able to seat our group of 12 quite quickly and comfortably. All of the servers were very nice. They serve your traditional breakfast fare here, but the breakfast poutine covered in hollandaise sauce really caught my eye, so I had to get it. It had your typical omelette toppings (onions, mushrooms, green peppers, etc) topped with 2 eggs and covered in sauce. It was comforting and exactly what I was craving. read more

Sunnyside Grill Is your typical brunch place. Physically the place is bright and clean. The spacing between some of the tables were a bit tight as the guy who sat behind me literally was rubbing his shoulders with mine. Good selections on the menu to choose from. I ended up having the traditional breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausages, and griddled potatoes. The potatoes were a bit dry. My friend had to go up to the counter to get her coffee refilled as the server didn't come to check consistently. My cup of water smelled like eggs. And we waited for a while for our bill but in the end decided to go to the counter to get our bill instead. I noticed other diners had their bills brought to them. I was here at noon to get myself a quick lunch. I saw the "seat yourself" sign and invited myself inside just to see empty tables with leftover plates and utensils from the previous customers along the booth area. So I decided to seat at the other available tables. There were maybe only five tables occupied with customers with two servers and one chef (open kitchen). I waited about 10 min before the servers noticed that I was ready to order. I asked for an orange juice, a cream of broccoli soup and a Canadian burger. They served my orange juice pretty fast but I waited waited for my soup and plate of burger for half an hour. My soup was lukewarm and where the menu states that my burger is supposed to contain mushrooms, cheddar cheese and peameal bacon, although I can see signs of mushrooms under the cheese, I still couldn't taste it after my last bite. Honestly I have to say that the only good thing about that burger was that it was juicy. A pat on the back for their chef. The servers were friendly, but the service was way too slow for a breakfast place that probably had less than 20 tables in total. A reminder to all, although the owner told me that the orange juice was freshly squeezed and that it costs them $30 a jug, they charged me $4.29 for the size of a canteen plastic cup. read more

Recently at a different restaurant located down the road on Yonge street just below Major Mackenzie, I will order OVER EASY and now they serve me scrambled. I am not a picky person, I just like my eggs one way and believe it or not its a huge struggle. So back to Sunnyside Grill in Richmond Hill, Ontario By the time the 3rd day in a row came (that I ate there) my server knows off by heart my meal right down to the type of jam I want. I start walking in the server sees me she starts preparing my table for me and before I get my coat off she already has ordered my breakfast, coffee and water is on the table AND she brings me OVER EASY eggs. The two ladies that run this restaurant are AMAZING. So happy all the time, the servers and the cook are always fast, efficent and polite. My husband ordered super sunnyside breakfast which has three eggs, three hams, sausages and bacons, bread and potato, tons of food at $10.99. Great value and service. The potatoes are frozen as are the breakfast sausage links. These are the cheapest type of sausage linksmoney can buy. Basically a smaller hotdog seiner packed with salt. Eggs were all supposed to be over easy but turned out over hard. This restaurant cannot even get the most basic things right. This goes from service all the way to the food. Place was clean and the menu looked good. Came here based on a recommendation. We got there at 11:30am and was seated promptly (table of 5). It took our server about 10 mins to take our drink order. She played the game of trying to remember what we ordered by memory and circled back to ask us what we ordered again. Please just write it down. When drinks arrived, the coffee was accompanied by those little milk cups. When one was opened and poured out, it was chunky and curdled. We asked the server and she said "ewww that creeps me out!". We didn't even know what to say to that. She brought a second batch of milk cups and the same thing (we also noticed they weren't cold). After that, she finally brought some fresh, cold milk. Another 20 mins goes by and she came back to say "has anyone taken your order?" We responded with a "No" and looked at each other in awe. She's the one servicing our table - shouldn't she know?! She then played the game of trying to remember our orders by memory and then circled back later to try and confirm. Please just write it down. There's no shame in that. When our food arrived it was overall good and tasty. Only complaint was that the poutine was extremely salty, almost inedible. By that time we didn't have any more energy to complain again. It was very ordinary and plain, and came with a side of griddled potatoes. I've had a lot of poached eggs/egg Benedicts in my life, but I was rather disappointed when I took my first bite. It felt like I was eating completely raw eggs covered in sauce. It was a struggle to finish my food and I didn't experience my usual satisfaction eating breakfast. My expectations might've have went up, but it's really expensive paying for food that I can barely eat. Our server was also kind of awkward. My friend and I would be eating our meals from across each other, and she would shove her hand to the middle of our table. Why? It was to move the menus like 1 cm away from our plates. It was super busy on a Saturday around 12:30. Ordered the traditional breakfast with a side pancake. Was a lot of food. Especially for only $11.99. Food quality was nothing but average however, with my meal being comparable to one from Denny's. Again not amazing but edible. The side potatoes were real potatoes, those were probably my favourite. Another thing to take from this visit was the prices. Most meals on the menu were priced fairly, they don't up charge you really or rip you off. But it depends on whether you add extras to your meal or not. I did notice some things on the "extras" portion of the menu like "one egg" @ $2.39 which is a tad ridiculous. Will I be back. Yes. Fantastic traditional all day breakfast menu, spacious and clean seating elevated the experience to a new bar set. Oh and the food? Perfect is the word the comes to mind. Not too much. They casually left a dirty table with the cleaning solution and dirty rag in front of us, then 5 minutes later a waitress commenced to wipe the table while making sure to get as much of the sprayed solution and food falling to our laps. They seemed understaffed, but of their 3 waitresses, none seemed to want to serve us. I ordered 2 breakfast for takeout four-days ago and one had a hair in it. I brought it back and they replaced the one with the hair and as I got home, saw there was another hair. I then called them and the waitress said she wasn't authorized to do anything and asked me to call back the next day. I decided to go back in with the 2nd breakfast and showed the hair. The waitress took down my information and said she would have the manager etransfer me a refund. I waited but nothing. I called the following day and was told they'd make sure someone called me back but no one did. Today is the 4th day and I called back and spoke to the manager; he told me the only thing he could offer me was to redo my breakfasts order of the 4days ago. Are you kidding me?? Always super friendly staff and they are always on the ball. Prices are reasonable and a wide selection on the menu. My favourite part is that you can add one french toast or pancake to your breakfast order which I am always craving for. Their pancakes are not what you imagine to be thick and fluffy, but it's got a nice fluff and chewiness to them that they soak in just the right amount of syrup. Unfortunately they don't have an espresso machine - that is their only downfall. I would definitely visit more often if I could get a nice cup of latte with my breakfast. read more

Unfortunately we discovered this gem after we moved from Richmond Hill. My husband, my son and I went for a late breakfast today and I must say I love this place. This will be our go to breakfast place whenever we come back to Richmond Hill. The food was delicious! Very home made! The staff were delightful, we really liked that they seem to know everyone that came in. At one point even the chef had come out and we spoke to him! Very nice man! First time here and it was fabulous! Clean, bright and very friendly staff. The home fries were delicious...pan fried crisp ( not deep fried or worse, soft like other breakfast places). I ordered the florentine Benedict. You can choose to have your spinach cooked or raw (I chose cooked). Hollandaise sauce was just ok. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the pancakes were fluffy and huge. Beyond being personable and great hosts they and their staff were very attentive to us and other patrons. The nicest thing about the entire experience is they made my young daughter a double chocolate pancake with Nutella on the side JUST to see if she would like it - no cost, no expectations other than to garner a smile - wow! Took my family here for breakfast on Family Day. Restaurant was not busy. Sign said seat yourselves. Two waitresses on duty. After 15 minutes, not even the slightest eye contact from a waitress. No water, no coffee, no "good morning", nothing! We left and still no eye contact or a word from either waitress on duty. Management has obviously not trained staff on customer service. Gross kitchen staff! We checked this place out as an alternative to pancakes from Coras. I really felt like pancakes, so I got the breakfast that came with two. My first bite tasted gross, and I asked my mom to taste. The guy next to me heard me say that and asked me if my pancakes tasted off. His did too. We told the waitress and she took them back. Then she came and said that they usually check the batter in the morning but today they didn't. GROSS! I would think they can make fresh batter daily? I mean, how old is it? After that I didn't want new pancakes. The rest of the food was decent but my appetite was ruined. They should have at least given me a free breakfast for serving me rotten food but they only removed the pancakes. Will NEVER be going back. read more
