I was attending a meeting in Davis and needed a poster printed for that purpose. I've sent my pdf formatted correctly some days in advance, so that I could just pick it up when arriving in Davis. Unfortunately my poster wasn't printed at all and we had to wait for 1.5 h until it was finished. The print itself was of very good quality but it had big scratches in the ink. Also I had to pay nearly twice as much as they stated when I asked by mail. All in all I think they make high quality prints but in my case everything went wrong that could go wrong so unfortunately I cannot give more stars than three. I was the typical "I need this done in the next 24 hours because I waited till the last minute" sob story customer. I was departing the next day for a conference and needed business cards. The gentleman helping me made it clear that I wouldn't get the same kind of card stock that business cards had, but would get something similar. I also had sent in a crappy PDF of a mock business card I made using a template in the horrible Microsoft Word. Yes, I told you this was all last minute. He was very compassionate in telling me that the template wouldn't work and was uneven, and worked with me to figure out a way to make it work. The results were impressive and I actually got compliments on the results at the conference. All this for under $30. All in all, they will work with you, won't cheat you, and will make it clear what you are getting. Don't go anywhere else! read more

I love this place. They are a small business which I like to support, and they can handle a variety of tasks. Sometimes I need to pop in to print flyers, and I've even ordered a large outdoor banner which they did like pros! Wilson is absolutely the best: he knows what he is doing, he has so much experience and wisdom when it comes to making the best print out of your project, and he has never-ending patience (absolutely important when dealing with noobs like us). My company has placed a few orders of a few thousand business cards, and we messed up on the designs a couple of times. He offered to reprint the cards for us for free, even though the errors were ours. His justification for it is: "You guys are our customers, and we want you to be as happy with your cards, so we'll reprint them out for you for free as a sign of goodwill". Even though we won't allow them to reprint the designs to us for free, we are loyal customers (for liiiife). Also, the rest of the exceptional staff are also uber knowledgeable and friendly. The staff are always friendly and fast, and they'll reprint your pages if they didn't come out as you wanted them (one of my projects printed out too dark and they reprinted it for me). Also super inexpensive: I've never paid over $2, and I usually print out 2-4 11x17" sheets, sometimes in color. read more

This morning's visit to and the subsequent review of a nightmarish FedEx store led me back to Copyland--the only copy store I've ever visited that I actually *like*. Copyland has very good rates to begin with, and back in high school they cut our entire student body a sizable discount. Their clerks hover in the friendly to bored-looking range, but they often remember me when I come in and they are always helpful, so no complaints. The only thing I dislike about Copyland is that the pricing seems inconsistent--I have often been quoted one thing on the phone, and then charged another after the completion of the work. Although the discrepancy often works out in my favor, and the prices are low enough to begin with that I'm still saving money over FedEx/Kinko's (or FedEx Office, as they'd rather be known these days), I'd still rather know what I'm actually going to be paying up-front. They also could use a beefier computer to print graphics from--when I brought in a very high-res TIFF to make a large poster from about 6 months ago, it took 5 minutes to open and nearly crashed their computer. I needed to print a large color poster for a class project. Kinko's was quoting me at $90, so I came here to see if they could do it. The guy who helped me (presumably the owner) did a great job. No issues with scaling, poor quality paper/inks, etc. The poster turned out very sharp! Best of all it cost me only $45 and 10 min time. Consider me a satisfied customer. read more

Probably a good place if you are getting flyers for the local frat party, however, not really up to par for copies as needed work needed on a deadline. Stopped by to pick up work on day 4.....employee had no idea what happed to the copies or if they were even completed. Emailed original contact....no response. Used them prior with no issue...however, needed the flyers today. Found a more professional shop to work with....had same amount copies in 2 hours. read more

This is a dual review for Copyland (5 stars) and FedEx/Kinko's (0-1 stars), and an extreme argument for the value of supporting local businesses not just to do it (which could/should be reason enough) but rather WHY we should support local businesses. But, first a story.... For whatever reason, call it concern over the drought or just getting tired of annually dealing with a lawn that dies no matter how much we water it or the fact that our new puppy (love ya, Sadie) is ripping out everything that is not bolted down and many things that are bolted down, we are considering re-doing our backyard to something more fun and also drought tolerant. In that, I needed to print out plans from our landscape designer. Naturally, being the consumer automaton that I am whose brain has been co-opted by corporate 'Merica ("fuck yeah!" as the South Park guys would say), I walk over to Kinko's (not called Kinko's anymore as they seem to be far more concerned with stock price appreciation than actually serving local customer needs...more on that in a minute). Here is what I got: 1) explained by a customer service guy (who for the record was nice but had no customers in front of him, but was at the shipping desk...my bad, have to learn my stations to address the needs of the people that work there rather than the other way around) that I was in the wrong place and would have to stand in line behind a distraught trio trying to get help to print out a color brochure or something churchy-looking, 2) stand in line for 5 minutes with the two people at the "right station" really trying hard to avoid making eye contact, which I always find to be a fun game in places like this....ya know, eye contact bingo ? Enter trusty Yelp. I look up other places, and see Copland, a place I must have walked by a million times and never even considered entering or giving them my business. Call answered on second ring. Wilson tells me to come over, they can print it out, no problem. Walk over. Here is what I got: 1) really cheerful girl apologizing that Wilson is in the back, he'll be out in a minute (which he did), 2) Wilson taking my USB, printing it out in another minute, 3) being charged less than $1.50 for a large format architectural drawing, 4) noticing not fewer than 5 other people in the store, thanking Wilson by name (who does that ?) getting the same treatment, 5) the frustrated trio from FedEx/Kinko's coming in, obviously for the same reason I did. I will be back. I will tell everyone I know. Thank you for solidifying in my mind why local businesses DESERVE to exist not as charity, but because it is obvious you have a vested interest in the community and just getting shit done. Sorry, FedEx/Kinko's. Been there for a last time. read more

Wilson is theee BEST! I used to live in Davis, now I live in Sac but Copyland is the only place I come to for quality prints. They're super friendly, helpful, and understanding staff makes commuting here worth every mile! It's located in the heart of downtown Davis, so traffic gets pretty crazy, but Wilson definitely knows what he's doing and is more than helpful when it comes to print production and really considers everyone that walks in. read more

This place is AWESOME! They have helped me out so many times - especially for urgent deadlines! I do a lot of sporting events and they always come through. The prices are so affordable and they can do a quick turnaround service if you ask them nicely. They get pretty busy, so it helps them if you ask ahead of time. But I am so glad they are in Davis.
