I lovingly refer to Hallmarks as Men's Get-Out-of-the-Doghouse stores, and it's not just about the greeting cards.
Coppin's -- an independent local retailer in Utah for almost 25 years -- has Hallmarks in Brigham City, Harrisville, Layton, Murray, American Fork, Clinton, Orem, and this one in Provo Towne Centre.
Of course, cards are their are their bread and butter. It's just easier to mark an occasion with a Hallmark card because there is SO MUCH to choose from in-store. From bawdy to goofy to bereavement to celebration, there's a card here for any occasion. And they have a decent selection of wrapping paper and bags to use for your gift.
The thing my "doghouse" nickname for Hallmark doesn't take into account is how much stuff they have for kids, especially the littler ones.
They have Itty Bittys, small plush toys of superheroes (both Marvel and DC), Disney, Muppets, Barbie, Peanuts, Rainbow Brite, and, of course, Star Wars. They have other stuffed animals, many geared the nearest holiday (I'm here in late January, and see a lot of hearts). They have a lot of jewelry and bracelets geared towards girls, including Charm It!, Strand Bands, and Rainbow Loom brands (don't worry adults, they've got Bella Ryann Bracelets and DaVinci Beads). They also have plenty of brand figurines (including Growing Up Girls), which seem to draw both a child and adult audience.
And for the man in the doghouse, of course, there are plenty of cards to go with that apology gift.
I'm sort of stunned by the catch-all nature of the store, which seems inevitable in this competitive day and age. Hallmark has puzzles. Hallmark has sandals. Hallmark has Coca Cola stuff. Hallmark has bags and purses.
Let's just put it this way: START your mall visit at Coppin's Hallmark. You may not need to go anywhere else in the mall. read more
